S5 Use A Compatible Charger Error

Problem: i just got my device about 5 months ago and up until about 2 months ago it charged perfectly fine. since then when i plug my phone in using the original charger it pops up a message saying “use an original samsung compatible charger, and battery” it never charges while the phone is turned on it only shows that message and refuses to charge. i’ve tried turning it off and putting it on charge but after about 15 seconds it vibrates and shows a warning sign inside the battery icon and refuses to charge. after i try over and over adjusting the power cable and taking the battery out etc. itll charge, but only up to about 60% then vibrates and does it over again. i’ve tried the hard reset ive tried the soft reset, ive tried other chargers, it never works. it still takes me a good 8 tries to get it to actually charge and stay charging. and even then the battery once it gets to 100% only lasts about 3 hours, even when not in use.

Solution: You will usually get this error message if you are using a third party charger, or if there is a connection problem between the charger and the phone. Sometimes a faulty battery can also cause this problem. Since you have already performed some of the recommended troubleshooting steps that needs to be done in this particular issue we will skip those and proceed to the other steps that you haven’t done yet.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in this port as this might be causing the problem.
  • Try using a different charging cord.
  • Try using a different battery.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then I suggest that you bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Is Overheating Not Charging

Problem: Hi, if you are reading this. thank you. and I badly need help (DESPERATELY). I live in the Philippines, and here is my problem with my samsung galaxy S5. I put my samsung galaxy s5 in my bag and drove around 25 minutes and when I arrived my phone says its overheated and its closing apps to cool down itself since i have only 7% charge that time. when I got back home I charge it but it is not charging, it displays a battery empty sign with temperature sign rising. I don’t know what to do. I badly need my phone back to its normal use.  please reply asap. thank you

Solution: What you need to do first in this particular issue is to cool down your phone. Remove the battery from the device and if you also have a microSD card inserted remove this as well. Set aside your phone for at least 30 minutes. This should be enough time to cool down the phone. Once the time limit has been met press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges the phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then try charging your phone. If the same issue occurs proceed with cleaning the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in the port. Charge the phone using a different charging cord and wall charger.

If you are still experiencing the same problem then try replacing the battery with a new one.

Should the above steps fail then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Won’t Charge At All

Problem: Galaxy S5 won’t charge at all Hi, my S5 is not charging at all. I read the response you wrote in the answer for the question “Galaxy S5 won’t charge at all”. I removed the battery for at least 2 hours and it didn’t work. I tried 4 charging cables. After the soft reset when I hold the power button for one minute, it started charging for 15 seconds and then, it stopped. Yesterday, I plugged my phone in my car and I had a pop-up “power sharing” saying I need to download this app. I did and then I uninstalled it. Since then, everything went wrong. What do you think I can do?

Solution: What you need to do first in this case is to make sure that the phone’s charging port is free of any dirt or debris. Clean this port using a can of compressed air. Next, eliminate the charger as a possible factor in causing this issue by using a different charging cord and wall charger when charging the phone. If the issue remains then you should try using a new battery in your phone. One last troubleshooting step you can do is a factory reset. This is done to check if a software glitch is causing the problem. Make sure to backup your phone data before you do a reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then this might be caused by a defective charging port. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have this checked.

S5 Stuck In Update Screen

Problem: I just got the Galaxy s5 and i let it update. for the past hour or so it has been stuck on a green screen while gears turning saying finishing boot. I am unsure if i should take out the battery because i do not want to accidentally corrupt any data.

Solution: If it’s already more than an hour that the phone is stuck in this screen then it’s best to remove the battery and microSD card ( if your phone has one installed). Once this is done press and hold the power button for at least a minute to discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then turn on your phone.

If the problem persists then you will have to start your phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.

S5 Use Original Charger To Charge Phone Faster Error

Problem: Use charger provided to charge phone faster is the message that comes on when I attempt to charge my Samsung S5 (SM-G900V).  I am using the same charger that came with the phone.  I even used a spare cord and plug adapter and still get the same message.  I removed and replaced the battery to see if that would help and it did not.  The phone will bounce from charging to not charging and beep when the message is displayed.  The battery is presently charged at 68%.  Any ideas?

Solution: In this particular case I would suggest that you start the troubleshooting by cleaning the charging port of your phone. Use a can of compressed air in cleaning the port making sure that any dirt or debris present is removed. Next, try using a different charging cord and wall charger when charging the phone. Should the issue persist try replacing the battery with a new one.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Stuck In Samsung Logo After Installing Marshmallow

Problem: After installing OTA update from lollipop to marshmallow, I’m stuck at samsung logo. I’ve gone into recovery and tried wipe cache and failing that I tried a factory reset from recovery options to no avail.  This device is not rooted, nor has any custom recovery installed (I’ve left it as stock to be able to get OTA updates).   Are there any other options I can try while keeping its unmodified status?  I have the SM-G900I model. Thanks

Solution: Do you have a microSD card installed? Try removing this then check if the issue still occurs. You should aso check if a weak battery is causing this problem by connecting your phone to its charger then restart your phone.

If the issue remains then you should consider flashing your phone with its updated firmware file. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular android forums online.

S5 Randomly Rebooting

Problem: i currently own a samsung S5. i started to have this problem recently. my phone would randomly start rebooting. I’ve tried everything on your website. clearing cache safe mode won’t help. when it shuts off it reboots 2-5 times before it says optimizing apps and taking me to the home screen. i also started noticing a outlined shape kind of like a ‘L’ tilted 90 degrees to the left. it doesn’t reboot when the device is moving. I’ve also did a factory rest on the device and have no apps. I’m operating on the newest software.

Solution: Does your phone have a microSD card installed? If it does then try removing it as this might be causing the problem. You should also check if the issue occurs when the phone is connected to its charger. If it doesn’t then you should try replacing the battery with a new one.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem and since you already performed a factory reset then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked as this might already be caused by a malfunctioning internal component.

S5 Not Charging

Problem: I plugged in my phone is is completely dead. Instead of getting the charging animation. I get a Lighting Bolt and Battery symbol. And it shuts down. Turns on with the symbol. and vibrates. and repeat. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S5

Solution: Try cleaning the charging port of your phone first using a can of compressed air. Next, try using a different charging cord and wall charger when charging your phone. If this doesn’t work then try replacing the battery with a new one.

Should the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Stopped Charging

Problem:  We have 2 Galaxy S5 phones, they both stopped charging at the same time, (update/virus?). We tried 6 different charging cords, cleaned all ports with ‘air in a can’, did a soft reset, and finally a factory reset. They will not charge and they will not transfer data to computer. One phone repeatedly begins to charge but fails then charges and fails, (without touching it). Also, the ‘lightning icon’ appears but there’s no movement as if it is charging. We assumed it was a connection problem but w/ 2 phones it’s just too coincidental. This occurred 1-8-2017.

Solution: This problem could either be caused by a malfunctioning charging port, bad battery or some internal component that is failing to work. Since this occurred on two devices at the same time then what probably happened is that when the both phones were being charged some electrical surge occurred which affected both devices. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Freezes Then Gets Stuck On Samsung Screen Issue & Other Related Problems

Despite being almost three years old ever since it was first released there are still a lot of people using the #Samsung #Galaxy #S5. What makes this model still relevant today is that it is still able to perform well. Apps run smoothly on this phone, the battery is easily replaceable, and the phone has some degree of dust and water resistance. The device has proven itself as a reliable daily driver however there are instances when certain issues can arise which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 freezes then gets stuck on Samsung screen issue & other related problems.

If you own a Samsung Galaxy S5  or any other Android device for that matter then feel free to contact us using this form. We will be more than happy to assist you with any concern that you may have with your device. This is a free service we are offering with no strings attached. S5 Freezes Then Gets Stuck On Samsung Screen

Problem: Hi there. My phone randomly froze today whilst using google maps. then when i powered it off it wouldnt turn back on, it gets stuck on samsung display screen or it goes fuzzy like an old television with no reception. i have cleared the cache partition and also done the factory reset. it is still doing the same thing. the phone has not been dropped, not has it had any water damage. your help will be much appreciated.

Solution: If a factory reset fails to fix the problem then this could be caused by a faulty hardware component. Some possible suspects are listed below.

  • Check if the battery is causing this problem by checking if the issue occurs when the phone is connected to its charger. If it doesn’t then you should consider replacing the battery.
  • If your phone has a microSD card installed then try removing it as this.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should consider flashing your phone with its updated stock firmware file. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the major Android websites such as Sammobile.

If after flashing the phone software the issue remains then I suggest that you bring this to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Glitching And Not Charging

Problem: My husband’s Galaxy S5 recently has been glitching and will not accept a charge anymore. It started with the phone flashing between charging, turning off, then back off, repeatedly. We know the cable is not at fault (works with other phone), so we bought a replacement battery thinking maybe his current one was maybe just old and would not take a charge. With the new battery, which came with a 40% charge, I was able to turn the phone on and delete some of his apps that I feel maybe were contributing to the issue (battery manager/ cleaning apps of the sort). But upon turning the phone back off the charge, it actually began to drain instead. Our next thought it to replace the charging port, but I’m unsure if doing so will fix our problem. What signs will tell you software/firmware is the actual issue versus the charging port. Note: I also attempted to carefully clean the port with a pin, and got a bunch of lint out, but it did not seem to help. Also, I am unsure of the android version, and the phone is currently close to dead and we’re saving it for emergencies. Thanks

Solution: Whenever a phone experiences erratic charging then the usual suspects are the charging cord, wall charger, charging port, and the battery. It’s very unlikely that the software is causing the problem. Since you have already eliminated the battery and  charging cord as possible suspects the next step is to try to use a different wall charger. If this still fails to fix the problem then you should proceed replacing the charging port of the phone.

S5 Stopped Charging

Problem: My s5 is not charging at all. It stopped charging while I was playing WordTrek, and failed to charge after that. My battery was low when the problem started, and now the battery is dead, with no way to charge it. I tried multiple chargers on it, none of them seemed to charge my phone. I cannot even boot up my phone to the S5 logo. Any way for you to help???

Solution: The following troubleshooting steps listed below are to be performed in cases where the phone does not charge. After performing one step immediately check if the issue still occurs then move to the next step if it does.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris that might be present in the port is removed.
  • Try using a different charging cord as the one you are using might be damaged.
  • Check if your phone charges from a computer USB port. If it does then one of the pins of the phone charging port could be damaged. Have this checked at a service center.
  • Try using a different wall charger.
  • Replace the battery with a new one.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then it’s possible that the issue is caused by a faulty power or charging IC. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Turns On But Screen Is Black

Problem: My phone will turn on but the screen will be black. My smart watch will tell me when I get messages and calls. I can not unlock the phone from memory due to the screen being unresponsive. I believe the cause of this is because I fell on it while skiing and that cracked the screen.

Solution: Try starting the phone in recovery mode. If the screen works in this mode then a software glitch might be causing the problem. You will have to perform a factory reset from here. Take note that this will erase your phone data. If the screen does not work even in recovery mode then it is possible that the phone display is damaged already. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center. It’s very likely that you will have to get the whole display assembly replaced.

S5 Not Charging Showing Yellow Triangle With Exclamation Mark

Problem: Hi there. I’ve been having a lot of trouble with my Samsung galaxy S5. The phone isn’t charging and is showing the yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle. This isn’t new, it has been like this for a month now. My new issue is that it boots when I hold down the volume up, power, home keys. It then tells me that “Android is starting” it doesn’t complete the starting then it dies. Please let me know what options I have.

Solution: Unfortunately in this case it looks like this is already a hardware related issue. You should try replacing the battery with a new one first then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then the charger port of your phone might need to be replaced.  You should bring this phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Makes Low Battery Sound

Problem: Hi there, I have had a good look through the site but perhaps my issue is not very common. My phone always makes the sound as if it is flat even when it is at full power. The main problem with this is that it will reset the app that I am in, so it would wipe a viber message or I would miss out seeing a snapchat etc etc. Strangely enough I have only needed to write the message once. I have tried a soft reset to no avail. Thanks

Solution: For this particular issue you will need to try a factory reset as this could be caused by a glitch in the phone software. Before doing the reset make sure to backup your phone data.

S5 Stuck In Samsung Logo After Software Update

Problem: Hi I have an s5 mini and I did a software update last night and ever since it stayed on samsung it didn’t move from that part I removed the battery countless of times and nothing worked I even removed the battery for the whole night it switches on but doesn’t move past the samsung part

Solution: Try removing the microSD card ( if the phone has one installed) and battery of the phone. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute then reinsert just the battery. Check if the phone turns on. If it doesn’t then you should try to check if you are able to access the recovery mode. From here do the following.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone. Restart the phone after this.
  • Do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data.

S5 Stopped Charging

Problem: My phone has stopped charging. This morning (11/24/16) my phone was charging just fine, however, almost 13-14 hours later my phone wont charge. It ended up dying but when i plugged it into another cord the charging symbol did not appear. After the phone died, plugged it into my computer where it would get the battery with the lightning bolt but that’s it. and it has been doing this for almost 15 minutes. The problem is not with any of the cords. I don’t know what to do.

Solution: If the phone responds when it is connected to the USB port of your computer then there might be an issue with the charging port of the device. This port has separate pins for fast charging ( wall charger), slow charging ( USB port), and data. What’s happening right now is that the fast charging pin might have an issue.

To fix this ty cleaning the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris that might be present in this port as this could interfere with the charging process.

Once the port is clean try charging the phone. If it doesn’t charge using a wall charger then do the following steps listed below.

  • Try using a different charging cord
  • Try using a different wall charger.
  • Replace the phone battery with a new one.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This is to eliminate any software glitches that could be causing this problem.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Not Original Charger Error

Problem: Alright so a couple weeks ago i’ve noticed my cable had to be in a particular place in order to charge my phone. Now it won’t actually charge at all with any cable. and then when i DO get it to make a connection it says that it’s not the original charger or cable and wont charge at all. I’m having to use an external battery charger to actually charge my phone. it’s really annoying. Is there anything i can use to fix this?

Solution: This is a similar issue to the one that we have tackled above since it appears that the problem is caused by a malfunctioning charging port. To troubleshoot this problem you should perform the following steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in this port as this could cause charging issues.
  • Try using different wall chargers.
  • Try using a new battery.
  • To eliminate any software glitches that could be causing this problem you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete try to check if the issue still occurs.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a damaged charging port. You should have this checked at a service center.

S5 Stuck On Boot Screen

Problem: My phone won’t turn on any further that Samsung s5 powered by android screen it just comes to that screen then vibrates….a small line goes across the screen and it either goes black or goes to the Samsung s5 powered by android screen again and just continues repeating this. I have tried all the hold this button and that button but getting nowhere. I don’t use the phone for calls anymore just run it on wifi and use it more like a tablet now, I am not even 100% sure if it is kitkat or lollipop it is on. Please help because I really could cry as I am lost without it

Solution: If your phone gets stuck on the boot screen then you should follow the troubleshooting steps listed below which aims to fix this problem.

  • Turn your phone off then take out the battery and the microSD card ( if you have one installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This action will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then check if the phone turns on.
  • Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Restart the phone then check if the problem is fixed.
  • Do a factory reset from the recovery mode. Take note that this deletes your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before doing this.

If the above steps fail then it’s possible that the phone software has been corrupted. If this is the case then you should consider flashing the phone with its updated firmware file. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: Hey Droid guy, my phone doesn’t want to charge AT ALL I have a Samsung s5, I tried all the methods you posted on your page but nothing seems to budge the powering on screen doesn’t seem to show up anymore and the phone charges but then immediately turns it off I see the empty power sign but it has absolutely no charge! Do I have to change the battery or should I buy a new phone?

Solution:  If you have already performed all of our recommended troubleshooting steps for this particular issue then you should definitely consider getting a new battery. If the battery that your phone has right now is defective then it could cause this problem which is why it’s best to try replacing it. If the same issue occurs even with a new battery installed then there’s a chance that this could already be caused by a malfunctioning internal component. I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center that’s capable of doing board level repairs.

S5 Keeps On Restarting

Problem: Hello, I bought a Galaxy S5 phone and constantly keeps restarting. What more, in the process of restarting, it can just freeze by itself and reboot again without the starting screen. I have flashed it twice and the power button changed by a technician all to no avail when I suspected those places to be the faults Also, when it finally restarts, it always says ‘sim card not from verizon’. Could it be the O.S or the processor? This is also because, when in use after a while, the entire phone warms up till it becomes very hot.  Kindly help since it’s just so frustrating. Solution: Since you already flashed the phone software ( you have to make sure that the firmware you flashed is compatible with your phone model) which doesn’t seem to work then the problem is most likely hardware related already. Try replacing the battery of your phone with a new one then see if this helps. If the problem persists then this could already be cause by a malfunctioning internal component. I suggest that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Does Not Start

Problem: I woke up this morning with my phone in factory mode not sure why or what happened and it sat that way for about 20 minutes it said do not cut off downloading… but now it’s turned off and now the battery is on 0% and when I plug it in I get a battery logo with a caution sign on it I’ve tried a few different chargers and now it has the correct charge logo just no green percentage and the screen lights up and goes away again back and forth

Solution: Try using a new battery on your phone as this appears to be a battery related problem. If the issue remains even with a new battery installed then I suggest that you try starting the phone in recovery mode. There are two troubleshooting steps that you can do in this mode. First, you can wipe the cache partition of your phone. This deletes the temporary system data of your phone. Second, you can do a factory reset. This allows you to check if a glitch in the phone software is causing the problem. Take note that if you do the reset your phone data will be erased so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding with this step.

S5 Stopped Charging

Problem: My Samsung Galaxy s5 active stopped charging.  Today I went to go plug in my phone after getting the “critically low” warning. When I plugged it in it did not charge but gave me a notification saying something about power sharing. I looked up solutions to why my phone isn’t charging and did some troubleshooting where i removed the battery and held the power button. It worked for a second. Then it would continuously switch from charging to not-charging. I have tried multiple chargers in different outlets and every time the “Power-Sharing” notification comes up. Is there any way you could help?

Solution: For this particular issue you should try cleaning the charging port of your phone first. Use a can of compressed air when cleaning this port and make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in this port gets removed. Next, try charging the phone using a different charging cord.

If the issue persists then the next step is to check if a glitch in the phone software is causing the problem. For this you will have to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset has completed check if you are now able to charge the phone.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then it’s possible that this could be caused by a faulty charging port. I suggest that you have this checked at a service center if this is the case.

S5 Red X In Battery Status

Problem: For some reason yesterday, I went to charge my phone with the original charger it came with. I never had this problem before yesterday, but now everytime I try charging it, there is a red x in the battery status. I’ve tried everything, cleaning the charging port carefully, blowing it out for dust, resetting my phone, uninstalling apps while in safe mode, and trying different chargers.. I have even went into ultra saving mode and turned it off. I still get rule incompatible charger ..bla bla bla. What is going on? Everything I need is on this phone! Please help.

Solution: It appears that the problem could be caused by a faulty charging port or battery. Try getting a new battery first and check if this fixes the problem. When charging the phone using the new battery you should also try using a different charging cord. If the issue still occurs then this could already be caused by an issue with the charging port. I suggest that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Crashed Does Not Turn On

Problem: my at&t galaxy s5 model sm-g900a crashed COMPLETELY in this order phone went to start up screen on its own phone was turned off after 10 attempts to restart phone factory reset was selected factory reset loaded 3x and never finished after 2 soft restarts phone reached at&t start screen then turned off and will not charge via wall or computer battery was changed and now phone is totally dead will not react to anything.

Solution: For this particular issue you should first clean the charging port of your phone. Use a can of compressed air when cleaning this port and make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in this port gets removed. Once the port has been cleaned try charging the phone for at least 20 minutes first using a different charging cord. Check if the phone turns on. If you still get no response from your device then this issue might be caused by a faulty power IC. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Battery Symbol With Exclamation Mark

Problem: Everytime I try to charge my phone, it’ll come up a phone charging symbol as if it’s dead (it has 20% battery) then a battery symbol with an exclamation point comes up inside of the symbol. I can’t figure out how to fix it.

Solution: When you get an exclamation mark when trying to charge the phone this indicates that the battery is not communicating with the phone. Try turning off your phone first then remove the battery. Clean the battery contacts using a cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Reinsert this battery properly then turn on your phone. Check if the issue remains. If it does then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Try using a new battery in your phone.
  • Clean the charging port using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris that is stuck in this port.
  • Check for possible liquid damage by examining the liquid damage indicator sticker inside the SIM slot.
  • Try using a different charging cord and charger.

If the above steps fail then I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Not Going Past Startup Screen

Problem: I just got an unlocked, refurbished S5 that originally ran on Verizon.  I am with straight talk and have an AT&T sim card that I put in the phone.  I turned the phone on and everything worked fine.  I got all my info set up on the phone and it still worked fine.  It did get a little hot but nothing that I thought was bad.  I turned the phone off and then back on.  After doing this the phone won’t go past the startup screen.  It’s like it is on a loop.

Solution: You will need to check first if this issue is caused by a glitch in the phone software. Start the troubleshooting by removing the battery and microSD card of the phone ( if one is installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges the phone circuit and clears its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then check if the phone will successfully turn on.

If the issue remains then try starting the phone in recovery mode then wipe the cache partition of the device. This will delete the cached data of the phone which could be causing the problem. If this doesn’t work then try doing a factory reset also from the recovery mode. Take note that this will erase your phone data so make sure to do this if you have a backup of your phone data.

If the above steps fail the next step is to check if this is caused by a faulty battery. Connect your phone to its charger. Make sure that you see the charging indicator. Try turning on your phone.

Should the above steps fail then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Charges Then Stops Charging

Problem: About a month ago I noticed that my galaxy s5 has charging issues. Sometimes when it is connected to the charger it charges for a few seconds then stops charging ( connect a charger message appears ) and immediately starts charging again. This keeps happening in a cycle forever. My old charger USB cable had a small cut so I thought that was the problem but even after replacing the USB cable the problem did not get solved. Sometimes it charges normally sometimes slow and sometimes like mentioned above. I would be really happy if you could help me out.

Solution: For this issue try cleaning the charging port of the phone first as dirt or debris stuck here can usually cause intermittent charging problems. Use a can of compressed air when cleaning this port. Once the port is clean try using a different charging cord and wall charger when charging your phone.

If the problem persists then this could be caused by a faulty charging port. Have this checked at a service center.

S5 Charges Slowly

Problem: Hello! I need your help about a problem that I’m facing with my samsung galaxy s5 . my phone is 1 year old and recently it charges very slowly because the usb cable so i changed it with another one (genuine samsung cable that came with my sister’s phone) and it didn t charge while it does when i plug it to my sisters phone and with the same cable my phone charges from my laptop  (ps i tried an application called ampere and the old cable that charges slowly provide 300ma on my phone while the new cable charges with 450 ma from laptop and it indicates 1000ma when i plug it in the wall to my sister’s phone so i think it’s software problem) one other thing my phone doesn’t charges from my friends gs5 phone charges plz i need a solution and thank you

Solution: If your phone only charges on your phone laptop then it’s possible that there’s an issue with one of the pins in your phone’s charging port. Try cleaning the charging port first since dirt covering the pins could cause charging problems. Use a can of compressed when cleaning the port.

If the issue still persist then try using a different battery in your phone to check if the problem is caused by a faulty battery.

Should the above steps fail then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Randomly Resets

Problem: So I will wake up in the morning and unplug my phone from the charger at 100%. Throughout the day I have no issues unless I am using the phone. By 70%, it will randomly reset and keep showing the initial screen from when you turn it on the first time. And it will continue to reset from that point literally for hours unless I remove the battery. The only way to stop it is to plug it back up and wait for a while, maybe an hour to use it. I can’t just put the battery back in. It wasn’t that bad before, but after the system update it became a daily occurrence. What are my options before I just buy a new phone?

Related Problem: My samsung galaxy s5 shuts down on its own but does not turn on, it will only vibrate whenever i press the power button. I have reset it, i’ve tried wiping the cache partition but the problem continues. What can i do to fix this if possible?

Solution: What you will need to do in this case is to eliminate any software glitches that could cause this problem. To do this backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done don’t instal anything in your phone just yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then this could already be caused by an internal component that’s failing to work. If this is the case then I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Charging Overnight Not Turning On

Problem: I have a Galaxy S5. Recently when I am charging overnight (which i have done with the phone for the 2 years i have had it) i wake up to the phone’s screen totally black and no combination of button pressing will wake it. Also in this state the blue LED is constantly lit and also won’t go out. The only way to fix it is to remove the battery and replace then turn back on. If I remove the charger once it reaches 100% this does not happen but if i leave it overnight that’s when it happens. When i remove the battery and replace, i have full 100% charge that lasts as long as it always has. Hope you can help me. Thanks

Solution: The best thing that you can do in this case is to check if the problem is software related. Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below to fix this issue. Move to the next step if the issue still occurs.

  • Start the troubleshooting by wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This deletes the temporary system files which could be causing the issue.
  • Check if a third party app installed in your phone is causing this problem by starting your phone in recovery mode. In this mode only the preinstalled apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. If the issue doesn’t occur then it could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
  • Try using a new battery on your phone.

If the above steps doesn’t fix the problem then you should have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Stopped Charging

Problem: I’ve done a factory reset. I’ve cleared the cache. I’ve checked the app usage and deleted some apps. My galaxy s5 was working fine and then it all at once stopped charging. I tinkered with it and realized it would charge when powered off or in safe mode. That’s when I began deleting apps. I had already did the factory reset and clear cache. Shortly after deleting apps it went back to charging perfectly! Well, 4 days down the road and it was charging fine all until I plugged it up a bit ago. Now it’s not charging when it’s turned off or in safe mode. It will slow charge for a few minutes at a time but then shows a battery and a triangle with an exclamation point ! I’m not sure what’s going on with it or why it will work fine one minute and not at all the next.

Solution: The triangle with an exclamation point usually means that something is wrong with the phone hardware causing it not to charge. It could be a battery problem, a charging port issue, or a defective charging daughter board.

To troubleshoot this issue try cleaning the charging port first by using a can of compressed air or by blowing into it using a star. What you want to happen is to take out any dirt or debris that could be present in the port and is causing this problem. Once this is done try charging the phone using a different charging cord and wall charger.

One other thing you should check is if the battery is causing this issue. Replace your battery with a new one then check if the problem still occurs.

If the above steps fail to fix the issue then I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center as the problem could either be due to a defective charging port or daughter board.

S5 Battery Drains Even When Charging

Problem: Okay, so about a couple months ago my phone charger broke and my dad has the same exact phone as me just in a different color. So I asked if i could have his and it’s been working great ever since, but all of a sudden my battery charge is going down extremely fast even when it’s charging, I haven’t had it at 100% in a whole week, I’m lucky if it gets to 25%, I put it on charge last night and it was at 12% and I woke up and it was at 31%, I slept 7 hours and I have tried taking out the battery, and  turning it off and back on again. I really don’t know what else to do and the charger I have now is not broken at all. Thanks

Solution: It’s possible that the battery of your phone is causing this issue. When the battery has undergone several charging cycles it degrades over time. This results in the phone draining quickly or the battery taking a long time to charge. Try getting a new battery and check if this fixes the problem.

If you are still experiencing the same issue then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step should the issue still occur.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or by blowing into it using a straw. This will take out any dirt or debris present in the port which could be causing the problem.
  • Use a different charging cord when charging your phone.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Charger Not Compatible With Phone

Problem: Hey my husband’s galaxy s5 has been working great until tonight, he went to plug his charger in and it told him that his charger wasn’t compatible with his phone and then after we took the battery out and tried again it said that it would slow charge and that he needed the correct charger. But it’s the charger that came with his phone, plz help. Now it’s not wanting to charge at all

Solution: If you are using the charger that came with the phone then the issue is most likely caused by dirt stuck in the charging port or be a defective charging cord. Try cleaning the phone charging port first with a can of compressed air or by blowing into it using a straw. If this doesn’t work then try using a different charging cord. It’s also good if you try a different wall charger.

If the issue persists then this might be caused by a faulty charging port. Have your phone checked at a service center if this is the case. Make sure to backup your phone data then do a factory reset before bringing your phone for repair. This is to check if the problem is caused by a glitch in the phone software.

S5 Not Turning On After Software Update

Problem: Hello, I have a bit of an issue with my Galaxy S5. Ever since the last android update I cannot turn my phone on at all. None of the steps that have been presented on the website have not achieved the goal of the phone turning on. I just received the handset back in the mail from Samsung and they did not fix it. (somehow a crack formed on the screen, which wasn’t there when I sent them the phone.) The problem with the handset besides the issue of it not turning on, is that it heats up rather fast when plugged in. I know that it is not running at all due to the battery being taken out for extended periods of time, and the battery being drained. Recharging the battery on an external charger has no effect either, the proper voltage is coming out of the battery. What can I do? I’m not really into expensive paperweights. Thank you.

Solution: Your best bet right now is to try using a new battery on your phone. If the phone still does not turn on and you have already performed the troubleshooting steps listed in our website then the problem could already be caused by a faulty hardware. You should have this phone checked at a service center.
