What makes #Samsung one of the best smartphone manufacturers is that the company continues to provide support to their old smartphone models. The #Galaxy #S5 for example which was released in 2014 was first running on Android KitKat. Several software updates later the phone is now running on Android Marshmallow. While most owners of this phone have already successfully updated the phone software some are having problems with it which is what we will be discussing today. S5 Software Update Is Temporarily Unavailable

Problem: When I try to update my phone I get a message “Software update is temporarily unavailable. Try again later.” The phone is not currently activated and I think this may be the problem. It’s a Verizon phone. Is there any way to update the phone without having it activated?

Solution: Since the phone is not yet activated then it will be unable to access the Verizon servers that hosts the update. In this particular case you will need to work on activating the phone first  then you will be able to get the latest software update.

S5 Update Failed

Problem: While on wifi, at home, I am not able to install AT&T updates. The updates download fine, the system starts update and reboots phone. Once the phone reboots in the upper area of the screen it shows in blue letters “recovery booting” and shows updating at the bottom. At 1% or less it says update failed and restarts back to normal  operation. I have over 2 Gb of space available. This started after the update to Lollipop. I talked with an AT&T rep at their large store and he replaced the sim card which didn’t change anything. I have tried a soft reset but not a factory reset. I have tried to initiate through safe mode but did not succeed. I have downloaded Kies and associated software it doesn’t show any updates needed. Any suggestions before a hard reset?

Solution: Since the update downloads without any issue then we can eliminate any connectivity related problems that could be causing this. The problem occurs during the installation of the downloaded file. This could either be caused by lack of internal storage space or a glitch in the phone software that’s preventing the device to be updated.

Here’s what you need to do before doing a factory reset. Try to free up at least 7GB of internal storage space in your phone. Move your photos, music, or video files to the microSD card. Uninstall any app that you rarely use. Free up more space by wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Check if you are now able to update your phone.

If you are still unable to proceed with the installation then backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Software Update Interrupted

Problem: I got a notification that there was a software update available so I let it download, let my phone restart and everything, didn’t leave wifi area. I got the message that the install was interrupted- several times. This has happened before too and I don’t know if it really did update or when it did. I downloaded kies as instructed online, cleared cache and tried to clear memory for it to download (I can only get 4.5 GB). Nothing came up on kies as it said it would and i tried downloading/updating the software again on my phone and it said “current software is up to date.” But my “android version” shows it’s still only 5.0 and clearly there are more current versions. Is there anything further I can do?

Solution:A glitch in the installation of the update process may be causing this and marking your phone as already updated. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode first then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then your last choice is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Software Update Does Not Download Completely

Problem: Since a few months my phone wants to update to a newer version of Android, yet it always stops at like 26% and goes into error. I honestly do not want to run an update from my pc since I am scared to ruin the phone’s software completely.

Solution: Try to check if the issue is caused by connectivity problems by downloading the update while your phone is connected to a different Wi-Fi network. If the problem still occurs then the next step is to check how large is the internal storage free space. You need at least 7GB of free space to update your device. If necessary you need to clear up the internal storage space by clearing the cached data of the phone, moving your data ( photos, videos, music) to the microSD card, or uninstalling apps that you don’t really use.

If the issue still remains then you should consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this. Once the reset is done proceed with downloading the software update.

S5 Can’t Do Software Update Because Device Storage Is Full

Problem: After I charge the phone, it tells me that I need to do a software update. When I tell it ok it checks for updates and then tells me that “device storage full”. It tells me to move some files and data to your cloud storage, or delete unused apps and files to make space on the device.  I do not know how to move files and data to the cloud

Solution: Do you have a cloud storage solution installed in your phone? This includes services such as Dropbox or even Google. If you are unsure of backing up your data to the cloud you should try using Kies or Smart Switch. This is a software that you install to your computer which helps automate the backup process. You will need to connect your phone to a computer to do the backup.

Once you have performed the backup I suggest you just do a factory reset. This will delete all data on your device and restore it to its original condition. As soon as the reset is finished proceed with downloading the update.

S5 Marshmallow Update Fails To Install

Problem: Hi i’ve been trying to update my s5 for about 2 months to marshmellow. After it finally downloads and it goes through the reboot process it fails and i have to start all over. The developer option is on i was wondering if this is the problem for it failing. Please help dont know what else to do.

Solution: Having an active developer option will not interfere with the update process. I’ve listed the troubleshooting steps that you need to do to fix this issue. Move to the next step if the current step you performed fails to work.

  • Try downloading the update while your phone is connected to a different Wi-Fi network. This eliminates the possibility of the problem being connectivity related.
  • Start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This deletes the temporary data in your device which could cause this issue.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done download the update again.

S5 Software Update Check Back In 24 Hours

Problem: It says i have an at&t software update. It says Uninstall unused apps or photos. I’ve done this have over 5gigs of space still on my phone still doesn’t update. I go to update in setting and it says it’s up to date please check back in 24 hrs

Related Problem: I’ve had this phone since June 2015 & I’ve never had a software update available, although I get onscreen notifications stating a software update is available only when I double press my home screen button to access the S Voice feature. When I click search for update, it tells me software is up to date, check back in 24hrs.

Solution: Sometimes the issue could be caused by the carrier servers. If too many people are trying to get the update the servers may become overloaded which is why some people who wish to get the update are asked to try again at a later time.

If you are constantly getting this message then the problem could be caused by a glitch in the phone software. The best way to deal with this is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done check for the update again.

S5 Software Update Interrupted

Problem: I have attempted to update to 5.1 for months but it won’t update.  I have wiped my device and reset it back up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I have 6.12GB of internal storage available and 56.48 available on my external card. Below you will find my error message:  Software Update Interrupted. No update is available for your device at this time.  Please try again in 24 hours

Related Problem: I continue to receive software update notifications on my phone. when i go to download and install the “update,” my phone will restart and when it turns back on i get the message that the update is interrupted and cannot continue. when i check for updates again afterwards, it says my phone is up to date. I am unable to download the new software for my phone.

Related Problem: Hello. I am trying to software update my Galaxy S5 and whenever it’ll go to 100% and theven phone restarts it keeps saying software update was interrupted and the update won’t go through

Solution: This is a common issue among S5 owners on the AT&T network who are attempting to upgrade their device to Android Lollipop 5.1. In most cases the problem is caused by insufficient internal storage space on the device ( the microSD card storage space does not count). AT&T suggests that at least 7GB of internal storage space be made available to successfully update the device.

Try freeing up some storage space in your phone by wiping the cache partition of your device from the recovery mode. Uninstalling apps, such as games, will also free up some space in your device. One final troubleshooting step that you should consider is a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing this.

If the problem still persists at this point then bring your phone to the nearest AT&T DSC or Best Buy Samsung location.

S5 Does Not Start After Interrupted Software Update

Problem: I am using Galaxy S5 mini. Yesterday, while I was chatting with some friends on whatsapp, I got a system notification saying “New software update available. Click to install”.  Having read that, I proceeded into approving the update but unfortunately I used mobile data & I had less than a 100mb in my bundle so, when I did, my phone just did an automatic short shut down. I didn’t understand why. Now it can’t boot up. Every time I press the power button, the Samsung S5 Mini logo animation appears & then it shows me the green Android robot with the progress status of the installation of the new update. It installs up to 93% &  stops with a warning message “Error” & then it starts again all over again & repeats the same thing. I tried to execute hard reset but I couldn’t access the factory reset menu either. I’m totally locked out. I can on access the OS download mode when I click Power butt + volume Down +home button. But the problem is I can’t download since I’m offline. Therefore I totally feel hopeless. If there’s a way to get around this by restoring its stock firmware using a pc app, please give me a step by step working guide on how to reset & restore my phone’s original firmware. Your help will be very much appreciated. Thank you

Solution: If you can’t access the recovery mode then the device could already be bricked. The best solution right now is to flash your phone with its original firmware. You will need a copy of your phone firmware file as well as the latest version of Odin installed in your computer. Instructions on how to do this procedure can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Fails To Install Software Update

Problem: My phone downloads the software update, and when it restarts to install it says it failed. I’ve tried this three times so far, same thing happened every time. I also cleared all the cache from my phone and took out the battery and restarted my phone. I have 3.12 gb of free space.

Solution: If you are downloading the latest software update then you need at least 7GB of free internal storage space. Try to free up more storage space by uninstalling apps, especially games since they take up a lot of storage space. You should also consider backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset before doing the software update.

S5 Not Downloading Apps Or Software Update

Problem: Hello! Alright my problem is that I’ve had this phone for a year now, and in that year I have never ever been able to download anything whatsoever without wifi. All of my phones I’ve had have been on straight talk, this is my fourth phone and its the only one to have given me problem. I bought an AT&T Galaxy S5 and when I put my SD card in and changed the apn setting like I was supposed. In the corner is still says AT&T and it will not let me download apps (without wifi) or download any of the newer software(with wifi). I really hope you can help me because I love my phone and don’t plan on getting a new one anytime soon.

Solution: There are two issues that needs to be resolved with your device. First the mobile data is not working and second you are unable to download any software updates.

For the first issue you should make sure that the APN setting of your phone is set to that of your carrier which is Straight Talk. You should also make sure that you have an active mobile data subscription and that your mobile data switch is turned on. If your phone meets all these requirements and you still can’t access the mobile data then I suggest you contact Straight Talk as this may already be an account related issue.

Regarding the software update issue that you are having you can only get the update if you are using an AT&T SIM since this is an AT&T device. What happens is that the phone will check for the update on the AT&T servers and for it to be able to do this an AT&T SIM is required. You can try to connect your phone to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch running and check if the update can be made using the software.

S5 Updating Contact List After Software Update

Problem: I just recently downloaded the new software and once the software was downloaded, it is taking forever to load my contacts. All it says is updating contact list. I saw that other people had the same issue I tried my best to do it and still the same issue is occurring.

Solution: Try turning the of our phone sync off the restart your phone. To do this just swipe down from the top screen using two fingers. From quick settings make sure to turn off sync. Restart your phone. If the issue still occurs after the restart then I suggest you wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Once everything is back to normal you can now go ahead and turn on the master sync.

S5 New Software Update Fails To Install

Problem: Impossibly slow while changing between tabs, apps, and settings. Touchwiz home crashes every time I am in an app more than 5 minutes. Frequent complete crashes to lock screen. Android keyboard failed, have to restart phone to restart. New software update tries to install then fails. I have plenty of room (6gb internal) and I’m always on wifi and plugged into the charger.

Solution: I suggest you backup your phone data first then do a factory reset. This will resolve the crashing issue and free up some internal storage space needed for the software update ( minimum of 7GB).

Samsung Galaxy S5 Software Update Failed

The #Samsung Galaxy #S5 has undergone several software updates ever since it was released in 2014. These updates are meant to improve the overall performance of the device by adding more features, fixing bugs, and improving its security. If you own this particular model then you may have updated its software at one point or another.

S5 Software Update Failed

Problem: When trying to update my galaxy s5 it will power off trying to update but then says update failed and powers back on. When it is back on I receive a message saying that the update was interrupted. I tried updating again and it says no updates available try again in 24 hours.

Solution: Basically, your phone is initially able to download the update but then can’t install it. One of the main reasons why it’s not installing is that your phone may not have enough internal storage space available. Ideally, you should have at least 3GB of space internal storage space available ( microSD storage space is not counted). Some of our readers however claim that they were only able to successfully install the update when freeing up 6GB of space. I suggest you do the same. If you have any music, videos, or photos stored in the internal storage space then move this out temporarily. You can also uninstall apps that have a huge file size such as gaming apps to reclaim some space.

If you still can;t update your phone then there may be an app preventing you phone from getting the update or this could also be caused by a glitch in the phone software. I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Download the update again after the factory reset.

S5 Software Installation Failed

Problem: I was alerted to a software update today, which I downloaded with no problems. It was only when I restarted my phone that I ran into trouble. It starts the reboot, loading a black screen with the AT&T symbol and small text that says “Installing”. It stays on that for maybe 15 seconds before quickly switching to an image of a broken Droid bot (the green guy) lying down with a little red error sign next to it. Then it says “Installation failed” or something of the like and takes me back to the original AT&T symbol with the installing text, now with a small, empty loading bar and a 0% above it. Any ideas?

Related Problem: Hello, I went into About Device and clicked on Check for updates.  After finding there was a software update available, the update downloaded properly.  When my phone turned off to update the phone, the AT&T symbol appeared and then it said update failed.  I was connected to a secure and strong wifi connection during this process too.  Any suggestions as to why this is happening. Thank you

Related Problem: My phone keeps saying I need to do an update, well everytime I try to install it, it will say that the download failed, or the download was interrupted, this is insane

Related Problem: downloads huge update fine, after restart to initially install update…after 2% install fails with no explanation. …also my sound hasn’t work since the first lollipop update…I still haven’t been able to find or any solutions to that

Solution: This issue is similar to the one we have answered above. The installation failed error you are getting can be caused by two factors. First, there may be insufficient internal storage space available in your phone.Although the update could just be a couple of hundred megabytes in size this is still in its compressed state. It has to be uncompressed for it to install. The recommended free internal storage space is 3GB however I suggest you free up at least 6GB of storage space.

If you have already freed up storage space and the issue still persists then there may be an app in your phone interfering with the installation process or the phone software may have a glitch that resulting in this issue. If this is the case then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset you will need to download the update again.

S5 Software Update Interrupted

Problem: Phone showing software update Everytime I update software after the the software downloads my phone restarts and error message shows installation has be interrupted. I have connected to several different WiFi to try to update my software I’m continuing to get the same error message.

Solution: Does the problem occur during the download process or after the download process when the update is installing? If it is during the download process then try connecting your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch installed. Once your phone is detected the software will prompt you that an update is available. Just follow the onscreen instructions to do the update.

If however you can complete the software update download but it does not install then you need to make sure first that your phone has an adequate internal storage space available. Try freeing up at least 3GB of space and see if you can install the download. If it doesn’t install then free up 6GB of internal storage space.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the problem then one last thing that you can do is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Constantly Notified Of Software Update

Problem: Received a request to update OS late last night. Since then, I have successfully completed the update 3 times, yet my phone is still notifying me that an update is available. Initially I had to delete, and move some apps to the SD card to free up enough space for the update.

Solution: If the update was successfully installed then this issue may just be caused by a glitch in the phone software. I suggest you wipe the cache partition of your phone from recovery mode to resolve this issue.
