S5 Software Update Failed

Problem: Hi, I recently bought (on ebay) a 2 day returned Verizon Samsung S5 with android 4.3. The phone works fine but, when I try to do a software update, it downloads fine and tries to install but the installation fails. I tried doing an update through the Samsung Kies system but it doesn’t seem to recognize the phone. Also, (don’t know if related) under “About Phone” many of the items are greyed out. Thanks!

Solution: Since your phone is able to download the update then it is still running on its stock software which is a good sign since this makes it easy to update the software. Did you happen to check if an error message appears on your screen when attempting to install the software? This error message is important since it gives us a clue as to what exactly the problem is.

Anyway, since you didn’t mention what error message appears try to back up your phone data first then do a factory reset. Once the factory reset is complete proceed with downloading the software update again.

If the OTA update fails then proceed with using Kies. Take note that in order for Kies to detect your phone you should use a USB cord that it known to work. Try connecting your phone to the different USB ports in your computer until it gets recognized by Kies.

If possible, try installing Kies in a different computer then connect your phone to it using a USB cord. If your phone will be detected then you will be prompted to get the new software update.

S5 Does Not Boot After Software Update

Problem: Hi, I recently updated my S5 to Lollipop and now it won’t fully boot. It powers on and gets to the AT&T logo then just freezes. I’ve tried to do a soft reset, I’ve tried to wipe the cache partition, and I’ve tried a full hard reset. Nothing is working. I attempted to put it in safe mode like your post suggests but I don’t think it boots far enough for that to work. Do you have any other suggestions?

Solution: Here’s what you need to do. Take out the battery and the microSD card of your phone (if one is installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute then reinsert the battery (just leave the microSD out first). This procedure eliminates any remnant charge in your phone and clears out your phone RAM. Turn on your phone.

If your phone is still stuck in the AT&T logo then your next step is to use Kies in resolving the problem. Install the latest version of Kies in your computer. Connect your phone to the computer using a USB cord that is known to work. Turn on your phone. If Kies can detect your phone then you may have to do an emergency firmware recovery. Make sure to back up your phone data first before doing this.

If Kies fails to detect your phone then your last option is to reflash your device using Odin. This is not a supported procedure by Samsung and will have to be done by you manually. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Does Not Proceed With Software Update

Problem: Notice on phone in pull down task screen has item – Software update available. Tap to install new update. Once tapped, phone displays Preparing phone for update with processing icon rotating. But it never proceeds to next step. Must hit back button to exit but update never completes. Task stays on task pull down screen. No clue what it is trying to update. Help please.

Solution: In order for your phone to properly get the update you should first ensure that it is connected to a stable Internet connection. As much as possible use a Wi-Fi connection when getting the update so you won’t have to use any of your data allocation. If your Wi-Fi connection has an issue or no Wi-Fi signal is available then you may opt to use your mobile data connection.

Once you have determined that the Internet connection is stable but the update does not proceed try wiping the cache partition of your phone. This clears out any temporary data stored in your phone that may be causing the issue.

Finally, if the above troubleshooting steps fail it’s time to back up your phone data and do a factory reset. Once the factory reset has finished check for the software update again and install it.

S5 Cannot Download Lollipop Update

Problem: Am unable to download the Lollipop update. Have tried 3 times and have done a factory reset and it still won’t download. Any suggestions. Our other phone (exact same phone & service) was able to update with no problems the first try. Phone that updated info: Software version: G900PVPU3BOF6, Android Version 5.0 Phone that won’t update info: Software version: G900PVPU1ANE5, Android Version 4.4.2. Can you suggest anything?

Solution:  The first thing you need to check in this type of issue wherein the phone does not download the software update is to make sure that 1) your phone is not rooted and 2) your phone is still running on stock firmware. If your phone does not meet any of the two conditions listed then you will not be able to get the official updates.

However, if your phone meets both conditions then you should try getting the Lollipop update using Kies. Install the latest version of Kies to your computer then connect your phone using a USB cord to it. Once Kies detects your phone you will be prompted of a new software update. Just follow the instructions displayed on your screen to update your device.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Does Not Show Updates Available Issue & Other Related Problems

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 which was released way back in 2014 has already undergone several software updates. Initially running on Android Lollipop when it first became available this phone has now been updated to Android Marshmallow. While updating the software is easy since a notification will appear, sometimes this update is unavailable. In other instances, the phone might have some issues during or after the update. This is what we aim to address today as we tackle the Galaxy S5 does not show updates available issue & other related problems. We have gathered several issues of this nature sent to us by our readers and have addressed them below.

S5 Does Not Show Updates Available

Problem: I purchased my SM-G900M Galaxy 5 from Defense Mobile (ATT) 9 months ago. I recently switched to Cricket Wireless (again ATT). My phone has the original software installed 4.4.2, and does not show any updates are available. I cannot get Kies to work on either of my Vista PCs. I tried removing the battery and no updates. It still says Defense Mobile when I power it on, but Cricket afterwards. Cricket support was useless. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Solution: Unless the phone is unbranded ( not locked to any carrier when originally bought), the ideal way of getting the software update is when the SIM card of its original carrier is used. This is because the phone will be looking for the update from the servers of its original carrier.

Now, since your phone is now on a different carries the next best thing to do to check for the update is to use Kies. You should try using Kies preferably on a computer running on Windows 10. Once the phone is detected by Kies then you will be notified of the update.

Another step you should try is to do a factory reset before checking for the update ( either through the OTA method or by using Kies). Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

One last thing you should consider is to manually flash the updated software to your phone. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Keeps On Restarting after Software Update

Problem: Hi, I am using Samsung Galaxy S5 (SMG900F) Recently i update from lollipop to marshmallow through official update and it was working well. Recently i got another official update indicate that for performance, from the day i did the recent update my phone is restarting always and its showing samsung galaxy S5 and again and again restarting and showing the samsung galaxy S5 until i am removing the battery. after 5 or 10 mints later if i am inserting the battery and power on the phone it will boot and we can see Samsung logo and will appear (android is starting….. optimising app 286 of 1). After this upgrading phone will work as usual. When i start using the phone regularly after sometimes the phone will be re start as same i said earlier. and i need to do again the all this things to work phone. Kindly guide me what is the issue and how can i sort out this issue.

Solution: It’s most likely that this issue is caused by a data issue in your device. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone first in recovery mode. This will delete the temporary data in your phone which could sometimes be corrupt and is causing this issue. Restart your phone then  check if the problem still occurs. If it does then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Software Not Updated Error 555

Problem: When I go to check for system updates, it says “Software not updated” “failed June 4 2016 Error Code: 555”. So, it attempted to update, but failed. When I select “check for new system updates, it says my phone is up to date, but clearly it is not, as I do not have Marshmallow, and still running 5.0, and when I go into update history, it says my last update was on March 3, 2016. I attempted to use the verizon update assistant on my computer a well, and it also says there is no update. Please help. Thanks!

Solution: Your phone might be sending a signal to the Verizon update servers that it is already updated despite the fact that it failed to get the update. In this case the most likely problem is that the download got interrupted or the installation of the update was incomplete resulting in the error 555.

What you need to do in this case is to try wiping the cache partition of your phone first from the recovery mode. This will delete the phone’s temporary data which could be causing the problem. Once this is done make sure that your phone is connected to a strong and stable Wi-Fi network before checking for the update.

If the problem is still the same then you should proceed with clearing the cache and data of the download manager app. You can do this from the application manager.

If the above steps fail then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done check for the update again.

S5 Software Update Could Not Be Installed

Problem: Anytime my phone tells me that there is an update available I go to download and install the update. I currently have over 6 GB of space on my phone. Once the phone starts the install the update it gets to 1% then stops. Then when I unlock my phone after the restart is done, a screen pops up and says “the software update could not be installed” I have lots of space on my phone and am confused to why it won’t update.

Solution: Since it’s clear that available space is not the problem then the next possible reason why this is happening is that the issue could be caused by the current phone software. What you should do is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done download the software update again and install it.

S5 Not Getting Software Update

Problem: I have a galaxy s5 Verizon  5.0 brand phone it is prepaid and I’m with straight talk and have not received the 6.0 update don’t know if I will receive it or not or if Verizon has sent out the update over the air or not please help me with this issue if you can.

Solution: Since this phone is originally a Verizon phone then it is designed to look for the update from the Verizon servers. The only way to access this is if your phone is on the Verizon network. If you have access to a Verizon 4G SIM then try inserting it in your phone then try checking for the update.

One other option that you should try is to use Kies in updating your phone. Connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies running then check for the update.

If the above steps fail then try backing up your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done check for the update again using the two methods listed above.

S5 Still Not Running Marshmallow

Problem: Purchased the phone used and did the two available updates it gave. Update info claims it to be running marshmallow but under about phone in settings shows version 5.0. Have restarted phone and also tried factory reset. Same thing shows. Any idea on a way to solve this?

Solution: Since you already did a factory reset and the software is still showing as Lollipop then the phone might not have gotten the Marshmallow update. Try to manually check for the update again. If the update is not available through OTA method then try connecting your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies running then check for the update.

S5 Software Update Failed

Problem: I go to update my device and it hits the reset and goes to the updating screen but instantly says update failed and it brings me back to my home screen when it once again says software update failed. Idk what update this is but it needs to be updated. I haven’t had a successful update in so long.

Solution: To successfully update your phone make sure that you have your device connected to a strong and stable Wi-Fi network. You should also have sufficient internal storage space available. ( if possible have at least 7GB of space free). Another factor that can prevent your phone from updating is your current phone software. If this is the case you should backup your phone’s data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete you should check for the update and install it.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Software Update Failed

The #Samsung Galaxy #S5 has undergone several software updates ever since it was released in 2014. These updates are meant to improve the overall performance of the device by adding more features, fixing bugs, and improving its security. If you own this particular model then you may have updated its software at one point or another.

Some of our readers however are not able to update their phone software. What happens is that they are able to successfully download the update but are not able to install it.

In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 software update failed issue that our readers are experiencing.

S5 Software Update Failed

Problem: When trying to update my galaxy s5 it will power off trying to update but then says update failed and powers back on. When it is back on I receive a message saying that the update was interrupted. I tried updating again and it says no updates available try again in 24 hours.

Solution: Basically, your phone is initially able to download the update but then can’t install it. One of the main reasons why it’s not installing is that your phone may not have enough internal storage space available. Ideally, you should have at least 3GB of space internal storage space available ( microSD storage space is not counted). Some of our readers however claim that they were only able to successfully install the update when freeing up 6GB of space. I suggest you do the same. If you have any music, videos, or photos stored in the internal storage space then move this out temporarily. You can also uninstall apps that have a huge file size such as gaming apps to reclaim some space.

If you still can;t update your phone then there may be an app preventing you phone from getting the update or this could also be caused by a glitch in the phone software. I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Download the update again after the factory reset.

S5 Software Installation Failed

Problem: I was alerted to a software update today, which I downloaded with no problems. It was only when I restarted my phone that I ran into trouble. It starts the reboot, loading a black screen with the AT&T symbol and small text that says “Installing”. It stays on that for maybe 15 seconds before quickly switching to an image of a broken Droid bot (the green guy) lying down with a little red error sign next to it. Then it says “Installation failed” or something of the like and takes me back to the original AT&T symbol with the installing text, now with a small, empty loading bar and a 0% above it. Any ideas?

Related Problem: Hello, I went into About Device and clicked on Check for updates.  After finding there was a software update available, the update downloaded properly.  When my phone turned off to update the phone, the AT&T symbol appeared and then it said update failed.  I was connected to a secure and strong wifi connection during this process too.  Any suggestions as to why this is happening. Thank you

Related Problem: My phone keeps saying I need to do an update, well everytime I try to install it, it will say that the download failed, or the download was interrupted, this is insane

Related Problem: downloads huge update fine, after restart to initially install update…after 2% install fails with no explanation. …also my sound hasn’t work since the first lollipop update…I still haven’t been able to find or any solutions to that

Solution: This issue is similar to the one we have answered above. The installation failed error you are getting can be caused by two factors. First, there may be insufficient internal storage space available in your phone.Although the update could just be a couple of hundred megabytes in size this is still in its compressed state. It has to be uncompressed for it to install. The recommended free internal storage space is 3GB however I suggest you free up at least 6GB of storage space.

If you have already freed up storage space and the issue still persists then there may be an app in your phone interfering with the installation process or the phone software may have a glitch that resulting in this issue. If this is the case then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset you will need to download the update again.

S5 Software Update Interrupted

Problem: Phone showing software update Everytime I update software after the the software downloads my phone restarts and error message shows installation has be interrupted. I have connected to several different WiFi to try to update my software I’m continuing to get the same error message.

Solution: Does the problem occur during the download process or after the download process when the update is installing? If it is during the download process then try connecting your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch installed. Once your phone is detected the software will prompt you that an update is available. Just follow the onscreen instructions to do the update.

If however you can complete the software update download but it does not install then you need to make sure first that your phone has an adequate internal storage space available. Try freeing up at least 3GB of space and see if you can install the download. If it doesn’t install then free up 6GB of internal storage space.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the problem then one last thing that you can do is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Constantly Notified Of Software Update

Problem: Received a request to update OS late last night. Since then, I have successfully completed the update 3 times, yet my phone is still notifying me that an update is available. Initially I had to delete, and move some apps to the SD card to free up enough space for the update.

Solution: If the update was successfully installed then this issue may just be caused by a glitch in the phone software. I suggest you wipe the cache partition of your phone from recovery mode to resolve this issue.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Unable To Update Software & Other Related Problems

If you own the #Samsung Galaxy #S5 then you probably have gotten a notification to update your phone software. These updates are released to enhance the feature of the phone, provide more security, or fix some known bugs that are present on the device. This model for example was released running on Android KitKat but has now been updated to Android Lollipop. In the coming months the Android Marshmallow update will become available for this phone.

Samsung Galaxy S5

While most owners don’t experience any issue when updating their phone software others however are having a hard time getting the updated software on their phone.

S5 Unable To Update Software

Problem: My galaxy s5 is still on version 4.2.2 but it can’t update. Whenever I try to update it it’s says “unable to update software. A network server error occurred. Try again later or go to samsung kies on your pc to update your device” I downloaded both kies 3 and kies on my pc but both said my device was unsupported… I then contacted samsung and all they said was to do a soft reset then  try again…. still nothing, can you help?

Solution: To be able to get the official Samsung software update for your device you should make sure first that your phone is not rooted or not running on a custom software. Once your phone has satisfied both conditions it’s time to troubleshoot the problem.

In cases like this where you get a network server error the problem is usually caused by the Internet connection. Try updating your phone software while connected to a different Wi-Fi network.

If the problem persists then download the Samsung Smart Switch software to your computer then use this to update your phone software.

If your phone is still getting the same error then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the factory reset has finished try to update your phone software again.

S5 Unable To Update Does Not Boot

Problem: My phone will not complete the firmware upgrade and initialization.  It gets to about 85% complete and then displays the dreaded message.  I am uncertain which version my phone is really on because I cannot successfully and completely boot the phone.  It will boot loop and never really start up and let me input commands.  I can only assume that the OTA upgrade to lollipop that dropped back in october happened while i slept because i had the phone set to auto upgrade and have wifi.  It was also around this time when i began having problems with glitches and reboots.  when i tried to solve the issue with a firmware recovery, i got the message and now my issues are worse because it won’t fully boot.  I have tried the troubleshoot listed here for fully charging the battery, wiping the cache, trying again, etc. I need specific step by step help.  Please help.  thank you for your time.

Solution: This boot loop problem may be caused by a corrupt software due to the interrupted software update. Take out your phone battery and the microSD card if you have one installed. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute then reinsert just the battery. Turn on your phone then check if it boots normally.

If it doesn’t boot then download the Samsung Smart Switch software and install it in your computer. Connect your phone to your computer using a USB cord then check if Smart Switch can detect your phone (you have to press the power button of your phone for it to be detected).  Once your phone is detected I suggest you backup your phone data first. You can then proceed with updating your phone software if you see an update available or you can try to restore your phone software.

If your phone is not detected by Smart Switch then the best thing to do is to reflash your phone software. You will need a copy of your phone firmware which you can download over at SamMobile. You will also need the latest version of Odin installed in your computer. Instructions on how to reflash your device can be found at several of the popular Android forums online. Take note that if you perform this procedure your phone data will be deleted so make sure you have a backup copy of your data.

S5 AT&T Software Update Will Not Install

Problem: I have tried to download the update twice in the last 26 hours. Keeps telling me it can’t download. Interrupted try again in 24 hours. Please help

Related Problem: I keep trying to download the new software update, but it keeps failing half way through when it is time to reboot the phone.

Related Problem: Software update will not install on phone. Phone restarts, recovery booting appears at top left of screen, it gets to 1% then says the update failed. Then after phone is on it says the install was interrupted

Solution: Before downloading the software update make sure that your phone is connected to a stable Wi-Fi connection. If the update fails when your phone is connected to your present connection then try using a different Wi-Fi connection. Make sure you have at least 3GB of internal storage space available on your phone although some owners experiencing this same issue say that they resolved the problem by freeing 6 GB of internal storage space.

If the update still fails then try wiping the cache partition of your phone then try getting the update again.

If at this point the update still fails then download and install the Samsung Smart Switch program to your computer. Connect your phone using a USB cord to the computer then backup the phone data. See if you can update the phone software. If you can’t do the update then restore your phone software then do the update.

If the update still fails at this point then go to the nearest Samsung store and have the update manually installed.

S5 Software Update Failed

Problem: I recently was told I had a software update, so I went ahead and started the download process, which was fine.  Then when it rebooted, I got ‘update failed’ on my screen during the reboot.  I had to uninstall some stuff from my phone before I did this, because it was saying I didn’t have enough storage space.  Since I have done some uninstalling, I have also been getting a message that pops up on my screen saying ‘Unfortunately TouchWiz home has stopped’.

Solution: You will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This will resolve the TouchWiz issue your phone has and hopefully allow your phone to update.

If your phone still can’t update then try downloading Smart Switch from the Samsung website and install it to your computer. Connect your phone using a USB cord to the computer and see if you can update your phone software this way.

If the problem still persists then I suggest you visit the nearest Samsung store and have the update manually installed.
