Samsung Galaxy S5 Screen Has Colored Dots After Drop Issue & Other Related Problems

The screen of a smartphone is probably the most delicate part of the device. This is the reason why manufacturers have reinforced it by  using Gorilla Glass for example. Consumers are also doing their part by applying a screen protector which adds an additional layer of protection. The #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 is one such model that has Gorilla Glass 3 protection. While this strengthens the display it does not completely protect it from damage. For this installment of our troubleshooting series we will concentrate on the screen issues of this phone model.  Get ready as we tackle the Galaxy S5 screen has colored dots after drop issue & other related problems.

S5 Screen Has Colored Dots After Drop

Problem: OK so i dropped my phone while walking home from school, when i picked it up the top portion of the screen had a whole bunch of cracks. The phone had turned off when I turned it on it had a whole bunch of tiny yellow, blue, green, red, black, and white dots on it. I took out the battery and put it back in and it worked fine for a few weeks, and then I was sitting in class and it fell out of my pocket and started doing the little dot thing again. I got it to work for about an hour then it started to do the dot thing again and this time i can’t fix it. I’ve tried some of the tricks on your page and none of them work my next step is replace the whole screen. Please help me I have NO idea what to do?

Solution: The dots that you can see on the phone display could be related to the drop or it could be a software related problem. The best way to proceed in this  case is to first check if the problem is caused by an app you downloaded. To do this just start your phone in Safe Mode. When your phone is working in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. If no dots appear on the screen then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then this could already be a hardware related issue. The possible causes are a damaged display or a loose connection between the display and the motherboard. I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center if this is the case.

S5 Screen Not Turning On

Problem: Hello, I own a Galaxy S5 and wanted to open it because it has been making issues lately. It first began with broken sensors and main microphone (installed new roms several times, no change), then more recently it started to turn off as soon as it was bent slightly, taking it out of my jeans pocket was enough to let it turn off. Since a couple days it also happens randomly and then it doesn’t start and sticks at the “Galaxy S5 G900F – Powered by android” screen. I have to let it restart for a couple minutes until it finally boots up. Because of this and some loose part inside the phone (it was the camera) I opened up the phone but now the screen doesn’t turn on, not even at all. While taking the phone apart I accidently cracked the LCD-display a bit, though I don’t know if a crack in the LCD means completely death of the whole screen. Do you know more about this? Thanks for your time and best regards

Solution: If the LCD of your phone has a crack then this is the most likely reason why it does not work anymore. You might want to start the troubleshooting by replacing the whole screen assembly since this is the most obvious component that is damaged. Replacing the display is not an assurance though that the phone will be working afterwards as there might be other components in your phone that have failed to work. The best way to deal with this problem is to bring the phone to a service center that’s capable of doing board level repairs and have it checked.

S5 Screen Black After Drop But Notifications Still Working

Problem: Hey, My phone fell and the screen got blank however you know the phone is on since you can hear if it rings etc. The screen is not crack and the button left of the phone you can see the touchpad still lights up, what’s wrong?

Solution: The issue of the screen becoming blank after a drop but notifications still work is usually caused by either a damaged display or a loose connection between the display and the phone motherboard.  Start the troubleshooting by checking if the problem is software related by starting the phone in recovery mode. If the screen works in this mode then I recommend that you do a factory reset from here. Take note that this will erase your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before doing this. If the screen doesn’t work in recovery mode then I suggest that you bring your phone to a service center and have it  checked.

S5 Green Lines On Screen

Problem: When I click on the button to unlock my phone, it shows a green screen or green lines and instantly turns off again and I have to click at least 60 times (I counted) until the normal screen turns on and I can use it. It is very annoying and also when I put my phone in the lowest light, it shows these green lines again and my phone is impossible to use

Solution: The quickest way to deal with this issue is to backup your phone data first then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then it could be caused by a faulty display. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center if this is the case.

S5 Screen Is Unresponsive

Problem: touch screen unresponsive every so often.  waiting 5-10-20 seconds sometimes regain responsiveness.  usually I just turn off and on again (and have to enter password each time – a pain in the butt) and when the phone comes back the screen usually works again,  Very frustrating when a call comes in and I press “pick up phone”  and my phone doesn’t answer and I lose the call.

Related Problem: Hello Droid Guy I have an s5 active and after the last update from Samsung my device’s screen needs to be tapped twice for most screen interactions …not during typing though…weird and annoying but phone is fully functional…I have done soft reset no difference. Thanks for your help

Solution: To troubleshoot the unresponsive screen issue follow the steps listed below.

  • Does your phone have a screen protector installed? If it does then try removing this as this might be interfering with the phone operation.
  • Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the problem still occurs even after performing the steps listed above then you should have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Will Not Completely Go Into Sleep Mode

Problem: My wife’s S5 will not completely go into sleep mode at times. The screen dims, but will not go completely to sleep. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Solution: It’s very likely that an app you downloaded is causing this issue. Try to start your phone in Safe Mode then check if the problem occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then find out what app is causing this issue and uninstall it. If the problem occurs even in Safe Mode then I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Screen Flickering Yellow Green Issue & Other Related Problems

One of the outstanding features of the #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 is its 5.1 inch Super AMOLED display. This type of screen technology is more energy efficient thus making the battery last longer. It also displays vibrant colors making images on the screen stand out. While the display of this phone is quite good there are instances when certain screen related issues can occur. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 screen flickering yellow green issue & other related problems. We have gathered several issues of this nature that our readers have sent us and have addressed them below.

S5 Screen Flickering Yellow Green

Problem: I have a Galaxy S5 that I’ve had for nearly 2 years now. About 6 months or so ago I noticed light flickering on the screen when the brightness was all the way down. Shortly after I noticed that my phone started to flicker to a yellow/green color for a split second right when I turn on the screen followed by seeing my lock screen then it flashes to black. Nothing on the screen at all, however if still functions and I’m able to unlock phone but unable to see a thing. Usually when this happens it will continue for about an hour or so, then phone will return to normal for days to weeks. It has started to be more frequent lately. There is no water damage to this phone or the battery.

Solution: For this particular issue the first thing that you need to do is to check if the phone software is causing the problem. To do this i suggest that you backup your phone data first then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then this could be a display related problem.

Some of the factors that can cause this issue are as follows.

  • Defective display controller
  • Loose connection between the motherboard and the display
  • Defective display.

If this is the case then I suggest that you have the phone checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Flickering Yellow White Black

Problem: I woke up in the morning and turn my screen on and it was flickering yellow, white, black whenever i turn the screen on it’s like that. I can’t access my phone i cant see anything but those colors i don’t know what to do, i searched the problem but nothing. i did see some people say they dropped it and i did few times. but some said they fix it just by pressing hard on the sides of the screen. even that not working with me. can you please help me

Solution: For this particular issue you need to check if the issue occurs in recovery mode. If it doesn’t then this might be caused by a glitch in the phone software. I recommend that you do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy first before proceeding. If the same issue occurs even in recovery mode then it’s very likely that the phone display is damaged. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Is Black But Notifications Work

Problem: My phone suddenly turned black it is a galaxy s5 sport sometimes called active. The light for notifications works and i can hear it and it vibrates. I’ve tried all the tricks such as soft reset or taking the sd cards out. I cant connect it to my tv i have no plug for it so there’s no resetting it. I’ve tried for so long i’m extremely frustrated.

Solution: Try starting the phone in recovery mode. If the display works in this mode then you should try to perform a factory reset from here. Take note that this will delete you phone data so make sure that you have a backup copy first. If the display doesn’t work in this mode then it could already be damaged. Have this checked at a service center.

S5 Lower Screen Flickers

Problem: When the screen brightness is lowered to the lowest setting, the lower half of the screen begins to flicker. Raising the brightness a few notches stops the flickering. I have not dropped the phone or exposed it to water, I have try and follow all the tips about soft reset, to hard reset, it’s stop for a minute then happen again after I have performed the hard reset.– the issue started out of the blue and it’s driving me mad! Please help.

Solution: One temporary fix to this issue is to turn of the auto brightness setting and just set the brightness level to its maximum level. A more permanent solution to this issue is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked. The display assembly of your phone might need to be replaced with a new one to resolve this issue.

S5 Screen Is Unresponsive

Problem: I recently lost the pin out of the charging port in my phone, I went to get it repaired at a shop and they fixed the charging problem only now the screen is completely unresponsive, it turns on fine and charges fine, only you can’t press any buttons or touch anything. Not really sure what to do and whether the shop has messed up the hardware. Any tips would be great

Solution: It’s possible that the connection between the display and the phone motherboard might have gone loose or the digitizer of the display has been damaged. You should however check if other factors are causing this problem by following the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. Is the screen working in this mode? If it is then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Start the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset from here. Take note that you need to backup your phone data before doing this.

If the above steps fail to work then bring your phone back to the service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Goes Black Then Green

Problem: Hi, I was wondering if there is any way you could tell me how to sort my phone out because I have tried numerous things and nothings working for me. As far as I can remember it all started after I updated some software. At first it was overheating and screen flashing slightly so I replaced the battery. But the flashing became more frequent and worse that I can’t really use the phone at all. It can be fine once it starts up then starts to heat really badly to the right side of screen and back of phone, the screen then jumps all over and cannot use keyboard as it just jumps constantly, sometimes goes black switching itself off and back on and then screen becomes pure green fuzziness. I have adjusted lighting display, wiped cache partition, done factory reset and started in safe mode but problem still there. Most recent error was stuck on downloading do not turn target off error. I’m assuming its hardware/ firmware problem so is it possible for me to sort myself without having to send off. I have it over a year but had to have screen replaced shortly after got due to personal damage and just had it done in small repair shop so i’m sure if sent back to providers it won’t be a reasonable price as i had work done on it else where and would not be covered under warranty. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Solution: It looks like the phone display is damaged. Since you have already checked the software side I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked. It’s possible that you will need to have this display replaced.

S5 Static Screen

Problem: Okay so hi my galaxy s5 worked perfectly fine until one day I dropped it then the same day later on that night I turn it on and my screen it’s been grayed out like static sometimes it works normal but lately its been like that and I have no idea what to do or what’s wrong. Can you please help me!?

Solution: It looks like the screen has been physically damaged by the drop. The only troubleshooting that you can do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. If the issue still occurs even after the reset then you might need to have the display replaced. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Flashes Vibrant Yellow

Problem: Recently, my phone (samsung s5) has begun odd flashes of a vibrant yellow color when used for long periods of time. I went to a store to get a warranty (our yearlong one had not run out). They refused to help, claiming a hairline crack has made the request invalid- even if the flashing had begun before I acquired the crack. This looks Identical to TV static, albeit yellow, and starts with the screen flickering, before going insane.

Solution: What you can do right now is to check if a glitch in the phone software is causing this issue. Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any app in your phone just yet. You should try to check first if the problem still occurs. If it does then we could be looking at a faulty display here. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked if this the case.

S5 Screen Is Flickering Then Goes Black

Problem: My galaxy S5 screen is flickering and goes black, its really annoying and when i get calls i cant see whos calling me or i can’t do anything else till it goes normal again… i don’t know why! Pls help me. Thank you.

Solution: Unfortunately in this case the troubleshooting that you can do is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset since it will be erased in the process. If the issue still occurs after the reset then you have to bring your phone to a service center and have it checked as this could already be caused by a faulty display.

S5 Screen Flickers When Brightness Is Reduced

Problem: I have been having problems with the screen on my S5 for a long time now. I read the article below that address this issue, but does not fix it. Anytime the screen is dimmed a very harsh flicker appears. I have looked at tons of settings and even tried a hard reset. Has anything further ever been found about this? It has been doing it for a year now and I would think if it was the screen going bad it would have done so by now. Thanks so much for any help! https://thedroidguy.com/2015/07/how-to-fix-samsung-galaxy-s5-screen-thats-blank-flickering-unresponsive-110016

Solution: If a hard reset fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by an issue with the display assembly already. I’d recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Is Blank But Responsive

Problem: My phones display is not displaying anything. It’s completely blank but the phone and screen still react to my touch. For example I can unlock the screen by swiping and it makes the the noise of being unlocked but it won’t display anything. I’ve tried a soft reset and tried to do a recovery reboot and to no luck. This same issue happened a few months ago where my screen wouldn’t work for a few days and then it all of a sudden started working again. I’m currently in Sri Lanka traveling and it started to happen again. I’m wondering if the humidity is the problem? Solution: Humidity can be a factor that can cause this problem since. When moisture enters the phone it causes some electronic components to work irregularly. Since you already did the software troubleshooting for this phone then I would recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Is Unresponsive

Problem: I have an unresponsive screen on my Galaxy S5. The unit has power and I can hear notifications coming through and I can hear my phone ring. I can also see the notification light in the top right hand corner flashing. I haven’t dropped it or had it exposed to water. It started happening when I woke up this morning. I have tried taking the battery out as advised on this site, but all the other recommendations indicate that I need to switch off my device first, which I can’t do because I can’t select that option on the screen when I hold down the power button. Any advice? As for Android version you asked for, not sure, it’s either KitKat or Lollipop.

Solution: Try starting the phone in recovery mode. You can do this by taking out the battery first then reinserting it. To boot into recovery mode press and hold the Volume up, Home, and Power key at the same time. Release all three buttons when the screen flickers and the recovery mode menu appears. If you can access this mode then you should do a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data. If the issue still occurs even in recovery mode or if you are unable to access this mode then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Will Not Light Up

Problem: So I have a Samsung s5, now the screen won’t light up in general, I can’t do a recovery mode thing or safe mode stuff because either I can’t see it ( assuming the issue is my backlight ) or something else? I have replaced the battery and tried troubleshooting slightly similar problems and nothing seems to work? When I put my sim card in it will register texts and make notification sounds for them, but I can’t do anything planned, I can’t even tell if the screen is unresponsive because it won’t light up. The led in the front works and the two rectangles beside the hehe home button and the back button light up, they just don’t do anything. Please help!

Solution: This appears to be caused by a faulty display assembly already. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Flickers when Brightness Set To Low

Problem: I am having issues with my samsung galaxy s5. Everytime I turn the adjustment brightness to low the bottom of my screen starts flickering green and the rest of the screen flashing gray. Only time it doesn’t dip that is if I turn the brightness high, also just today I noticed that as I was trying to use my phone it was blank/black but I can hear notifications and when I touch the screen I can hear the touch tones, but can’t see anything

Solution: The recommended troubleshooting step for this particular issue is to do a factory reset. This allows you to check if the phone software is causing the problem. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. If the reset fails to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Bright Green Circle Appears On Screen

Problem: I have a circle that has appeared on my screen of a bright green colour. It is in the top left hand corner and started fairly small but has now grown a little it doesn’t affect the use of the phone but i am worried that my phone could be dangerous to use. I have a samsung S5. Thanks

Solution: Try checking if the issue occurs when your phone is started in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. If the problem appears in Safe Mode then backup your phone data then do a factory reset. If the reset fails to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked as this appears to be caused by a faulty display assembly.

S5 Screen Glitches With Green Lines When Locked

Problem: I have been having recent issues with my Samsung Galaxy s5 active. When i click the power button for it to go to the lockscreen, it will lock but a bunch of green lines form and it sorta glitches. The same issue occurs when I click the power button to unlock it as well. If there is any way to fix this, please let me know. Thank you

Solution: You can check if this issue is caused by a glitch in the phone software by doing the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. If the issue doesn’t occur in this mode then it could be caused by a downloaded app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the issue still remains then this could be caused by a defective display assembly. I suggest that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.

S5 Screen Flickers Blinking

Problem: My phone screen flickers and blinking. If the display is turned off, I can try and turn it on by hitting the power button and home button However that takes a while to work because the screen will flash and then go back to black. It will flash with lines through it, eventually I can get it to go to the home screen and stay there. Then when I’m using the phone it will flash with lines across the screen and sort of dim out. Any idea how to fix it?

Solution: For this case you need to check first if a glitch in the phone software is causing the problem. To do this just backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then this is most likely a hardware related issue already probably caused by a faulty display. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.

S5 Can’t Swipe Screen During Call

Problem: The screen will not acknowledge the swipe when a call comes in. Seems to happening more. All other screens work fine, just the incoming call screen, when I swipe at the green button nothing happens. Starting to lose calls!

Solution: Try checking if a third party app is causing this issue by starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. Check if the issue occurs when the phone is running in this mode. If it doesn’t occur then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

In case the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Screen Is Unresponsive

Problem: The screen is unresponsive when I try to unlock it and it remains black even though the phone vibrates acknowledging that it has been unlocked. I have to keep trying to press the side ‘on’ button together with the centre button at the bottom of the screen before the screen will light up. When the screen finally does come on it flickers and when the screen goes off again it’s the same problem all over again.

Solution: You should first check if the phone software is causing this problem by doing the troubleshooting steps listed below. Check if the issue occurs after performing each step then move to the next step if the issue still occurs.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This will delete the temporary system data which could be causing the problem.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by an app you installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs.

If the issue still occurs after performing the troubleshooting steps listed above then I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center as this could already be a hardware related problem.

S5 Screen Is Blank

Problem: i am using samsung s5, i don’t know what happen , 1 day phone suddenly started restart continuously then i keep that as it is then after some time the display goes off, now the display is gone where as if i keep my phone by removing the battery then after 10 day i try to start then samsung mobile option come and restart again. and then display blank again.. after few days display come up again… i don’t understand is it display or motherboard problem plz help me with this

Solution: To get to the root of this matter you will need to perform several troubleshooting steps whose purpose is to check for the possible causes. Listed below are the steps that you need to do. Perform each step then move to the next step if the problem still persists.

  • Try using a new battery on your phone. This is to eliminate any battery related issues that could be causing the problem.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. If the phone is able to work in this mode then the issue is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If after performing the steps listed above the issue still occurs then I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center

S5 Screen Is Broken

Problem: My screen broke a few weeks ago. The phone still worked fine though and I planned continuing traveling with it. I am currently in Vietnam and use my phone a lot. Two days ago the screen did not go on anymore, The white touchscreen lights do and it still has a vibration function which works when I try to switch it off or on. I wonder if it is the screen that I need to repair which would be the most obvious thing to do of course. However I do think it might be a battery problem. The phone got overheated many times in Vietnam. The battery charged way too fast. I bought the phone in Holland and we use a different voltage there than in Vietnam. What do you think will be the best option and do you know anything about the prices of repairment?

Solution: The best way to proceed in this case is to try to get a new battery first. Since you are currently in Vietnam then the battery is usually going to cost cheap there. Make sure to get the original Samsung battery for your phone. If the issue still occurs even if a new battery is installed then the problem is most likely caused by the display. If there are physical cracks on the phone screen then you must have the display replaced. Replacing the screen will have to be done a a service center. I’m not sure how much  it’s going to cost to replace the display  there in Vietnam but the display assembly usually start at $200.

S5 Screen Is Black With Notifications

Problem: Screen is black but I can hear it turn on and when I touch the screen it vibrates and makes noises. So it’s on and working but the screen is black.

Solution: In most cases like this the issue is caused by a faulty display. Try checking if you can start the phone in recovery mode. If you can see the options on the screen in this mode then there’s a chance the issue could be caused by a software glitch. You will need to do a factory reset in this mode. Take note that this will delete your phone data.

If the screen is still black even in recovery mode then you have to bring your phone to a service center and have it checked. It’s possible that you will have to get the display replaced.

S5 Purple Spot On Screen

Problem: i had my phone in my front pocket then suddenly my phone had a purple  spot and then it just spread out on my screen and i’m wondering if the issue is on the LCD?

Solution: To check if the issue is caused by a defective display just backup your phone data then do a factory reset. If after the reset the issue disappears then it might just be caused by a software glitch. If you still see the purple spot after the reset then we’re looking at a defective display.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Screen Won’t Turn On Issue & Other Related Problems

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 is one of the mobile devices available in the market that uses an impressive display. This phone sports a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. While this isn’t the highest resolution on a phone it’s still quite good considering that this model was released in 2014. Just like any other smartphone model this device is not immune to screen related problems. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will take a look at the Galaxy S5 screen won’t turn on issue & other related problems.

S5 Screen Won’t Turn On

Problem: My screen wont turn on i try to change the battery  leave it off try to hard boot it and restart but when i turn it on it buzzes and the blue light turns on for my samsung  s5 and the notification goes off but i can not see anything

Solution: If your phone is getting notifications but you can’t see anything on the screen then the problem could be caused by a faulty display. Try starting your phone in recovery mode and check if the display works in this mode. If it works then there’s a chance the problem is caused by a software glitch. I recommend that you do a factory reset in this mode. Take note though that your phone data will be deleted in this process.

If the display does not work even in recovery mode then I suggest you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 No Display After phone Dropped

Problem: I was using my phone while seated and it was connected to my headset.  the person I was talking to was struggling to hear so I disconnected the headset but then I dropped the phone onto a carpeted floor from the seated position I was in. when I picked up the phone I could not see anything on the screen but as I was still connected to my caller I though nothing much of it . but once I hung up . the problem persisted. I have taken the battery out , waited and inserted the battery without the sd card in place. but no change. Can you help me please?

Problem: Have you tried starting the phone in recovery mode? If the display works in this mode then I suggest you perform a factory reset to eliminate any software glitches that could be causing this problem.

If the screen is still black in recovery mode then I suggest you have this checked at a service center as the display might have been damaged when the phone was dropped.

S5 Screen Flickers When Photos Are Saved

Problem: I can do a master reset on the S5 and it comes up perfect. After I put a couple of photos on the phone, the screen flickers and it is hard to turn on. Have read about all the display issues. This ONLY starts when a pic is either taken from the phone, or one loaded onto it. Any ideas? Perfect after a reset, then goes downhill from there. Used it for weeks with no sim after a reset and it was perfect. Put in sim, it worked fine. Once photos came up it mucks up. Any help appreciated.

Solution: Does your phone have a microSD card installed and are the photos stored in the microSD card? If you have a card then try removing it from your phone then check if the issue still occurs. Sometimes if this card is corrupt it could cause certain issues on the phone.

If your phone does not have a card installed then there might be other factors causing this issue. Since you already performed a factory reset then it’s safe to eliminate any software problems causing this issue. I suggest you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked since the issue might be caused by a problem with the internal storage space of your device.

S5 Screen Is Unresponsive

Problem: Ever since my phone rebooted after the update reset the touch screen has been mostly unresponsive. Occasionally it will work out and be fine but other times it is a nightmare even trying to type. In addition it is now doing a weird thing where it will drop down the top right menu on every single page. The three dot button in the apps menus, the three dot menu in Google, and at the home screen it will zoom out to a view of all the pages such as when you try to get a bird’s eye view of your page. It is almost like there is constantly something clicking on that top right corner. It is very weird and a nightmare to try to work with. It opens these windows every few seconds and my back button will illuminate then unilluminate and that is when it will do it.

Solution: If this problem occured right after the software update then it’s possible that it is caused by some old software data that has been left behind during the software update. I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset to fix this issue. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet. Try checking first if the issue still occurs. If it does then this is caused by a component in your device that is failing. I recommend you bring your phone to a service center if this is the case.

S5 Black Screen After Phone Fell

Problem: Hi so my phone fell out of my pocket and a go kart ran it over.  It was the first time I ever dropped my phone it is a couple weeks old. So now my phones damage is not to bad. 1. The top of phone where I would listen to hear you talking there is a tiny break but not bad. 2. On the bottom left not on the screen basically around the edges has a tiny break. But the problem is now I have an all black screen. A week ago it was the bottom half was all black and top half was flickering. I could see a tiny bit when it flickered and I luckily hit a button to call someone and it worked. But the screen was still the same. All black now. My phone was perfect before the go kart incident.  Some help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Solution: The best way to fix this issue is to have the display replaced since it is already damaged. Once this is replaced the screen will be working again. I recommend you bring your device to a service center and have them replace your display.

S5 Screen Not Responding

Problem: I’ve had my S5 for over a year and never had any issues. One day it started ghost jumping and was so bad that I couldn’t even get into my phone using my swipe code. I would take the battery out and it would be better for just long enough to put in my lock code and eventually I just took the code off. In addition to the ghost jumping the top portion of my screen quit responding to touch at all. The screen did this for 2 days and then just quit responding to touch completely…the haptic feedback still works, the back button and the recent apps button work, and the screen rotation work on the lock screen but even after a factory reset the screen doesn’t respond to touch. All of the connectors are in place and the display is amazing, it is just unresponsive to touch on the actual screen. I’ve tried everything and I’m really hoping I don’t need a new LCD…

Solution: Does your phone have a screen protector installed? Do you have the case placed inside a case? Try removing the screen protector and the case then check if the issue still occurs. If your phone doesn’t have a case or screen protector and the problem still occurs then there’s a chance it is caused by a faulty digitizer. Since a factory reset was already done I suggest you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Shuts Off But Phone Boots

Problem: Few months back I dropped my phone and it damaged the display and the color bleed out. Recently got a replacement digitizer and screen and switched them out. Now when I turn it on it displays the samsung galaxy s5 for about a second before the screen shuts off, but the phone continues to boot. Tried different button combinations and the only one that keeps the screen on is the home volume down and power button. does same thing when connecting a charger to it when it is powered off. The replacement screen was not new, it is used, however i have been able to get it to stay on a couple times and it seems to have no problem until it shuts off.

Solution: It’s likely that the problem is caused by the replacement display. Try backing up your phone data then do a factory reset. If after the reset the issue still occurs then you need to replace the phone display. Make sure to get the correct display for your particular phone model.

S5 Screen Does Not Turn On

Problem: The phone turns on but the screen doesn’t turn on. I am able to access the phone using SideSync. The screen does turn on when I do a factory reset but it develops the same problem after some time. Also, I am able to turn on the screen sometimes by taking the battery out and putting it back in while the phone is still on charge. If I do it while the phone is not on charge, it doesn’t turn on. Can you help please?

Solution: If the issue disappears after a factory reset but then reappears after some time then it’s possible that an app installed in your phone could be causing the problem. To check if this is the case just start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it’s possible that an app is causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue still persist even in Safe Mode then this could already be a hardware problem. I suggest you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Rotation Not Working

Problem: My screen rotation doesn’t work. It is turned on and smart rotation is turned off but it won’t rotate. If I turn off my device and remove the battery and wait a few seconds and put it back together and start it up, the screen rotation will work for about 10 minutes and then go back to not working. This is very frustrating.

Solution: If the screen rotation works after restarting the phone then the problem could be caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone. Try wiping the cache partition of your device from the recovery mode then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Screen Not Turning On After Overnight Charge

Problem: Left phone on charger all night took off. Charger screen won’t come on tried a brand new factory battery. I can feel it vibrate but no display. Every now and then at random will vibrate and flash red writing in top left of screen there and gone to fast for me to read.

Solution: Try taking out the battery and microsD card (if your phone has one installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge your phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then try to turn on your phone. If it doesn’t turn on then proceed with charging your phone.

Before charging your phone make sure that

  • You clean the charging port by using a can of compressed air or by blowing to it using a straw. The aim here is to take out any dirt or debris that could be present in the port.
  • Use a different charging cord when charging the phone.

If the issue still persist then try starting your phone in recovery mode. This is a working environment separate from the main operating system of your phone. If you are able to access this mode then the issue might be software related. I suggest you do a factory reset from here. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before you proceed with this.

If the above steps fail to resolve the problem then you should have your phone checked at a service center as this could already be a hardware related issue.

S5 Screen Goes Black

Problem: Screen goes black after entering a rest state..resetting battery works about 10% of the time I did a factory reset and the same issue occurs…phone appears to be functioning properly other than the screen going black

Solution: Try to check if an app installed in your phone is causing this problem by starting your phone in Safe Mode. While the phone is in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. Observe if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the problem still occurs even in Safe Mode and since you already did a factory reset I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center as this could be a hardware related issue.

S5 Screen Freezes

Problem: Hi there! Issue first started with the lower half of the screen flickering whenever I plugged it into the power cord. Adjusting the screen brightness took care of that. I knew that wasn’t a permanent solution but chugged along like that for a couple of months. Now the screen has started freezing up no matter what app I am using. I have to click the power button, and turn it on again a few sec later, and I am able to use it like normal again, for a few seconds, before it freezes again. I did a factory reset this morning, and nothing has changed. I can barely complete a couple of swipes before it freezes up again. The factory restart took me almost two hours to do because of the freezing up. Really hope you can help, thanks!

Solution: Since you already did a factory reset which did not fix the issue I suspect the problem is caused by the display. Bring your phone to a service center then have this checked.

S5 Screen Is Unresponsive

Problem: When the phone rings the first time it works perfectly but if the same number calls back, the screen is unresponsive to swiping. It just won’t register my finger swipe! If a different number calls it works fine. What could that possibly be?

Solution: Try wiping the cache partition of your phone as this problem could be caused by some form of corrupt temporary data. You should also clear the cache and data of the phone app from the application manager. If the issue persists then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Screen Unresponsive After Marshmallow Update

Problem: immediately after updating to marshmallow the screen became intermittently unresponsive and now is totally locked up. no way to even power down the phone except by removing the battery.

Solution: It’s possible that some form of old software data is causing this issue. The best way to deal with this issue is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Screen Is Unresponsive Issue & Other Related Problems

The Super AMOLED display of the #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 is considered as one of the best in a mobile device. It has a size of 5.1 inches and has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels at 432 ppi. Needless to say, images on the screen appear vivid and lifelike. While the display of this phone is expected to work without any problems there are however instances when some issue can occur. This is what we will tackle today as we aim to resolve the Galaxy S5 screen is unresponsive issue & other related problems.

S5 Screen Is Unresponsive

Problem: I got my phone yesterday and today for no reason the screen is unresponsive. The phone turns on and I can unlock it using the thumb scanner but it wont let me press anything after that.

Solution: It appears that the problem is caused by a software issue. To troubleshoot this issue try wiping the cache partition of your phone first from the recovery mode. This deletes the temporary data of the phone system and usually helps in this case.

Another factor that could cause this problem is a recent app that you installed in your phone. To check if this is the case you should start your device in Safe Mode. Check if the screen is now responsive. It the issue disappears then it’s possible that it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

One last troubleshooting step that you should consider if the issue persists is a factory reset. This reverts the phone back to its original condition when it was new. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing this.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you bring your phone back to where you bought it and have it replaced ( if the warranty applies) or you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Black Screen After Phone Dropped

Problem: I dropped my phone last night and now the screen is not responding at all it’s just all black it turns on tho because my alarm was going off this morning?!?! Thank you jane.

Solution: Here’s how to check if the problem i hardware or software related. Try to start your phone in recovery mode. This is a separate environment from the main operating system that allows you to run commands on the phone. If the screen is not black in this mode then the problem could be caused by the main phone software. If this is the case then I would suggest that you do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy first.

In case the screen is still black in the recovery mode then the problem could already be caused by a damaged display. I would suggest that you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. It’s possible that you will need to have the screen replaced.

S5 Bottom Half Of Screen Flickers

Problem: The bottom half of my screen flickers but when i lock my phone for 30 min or so it’ll go away but every now and then it will come back.

Solution: Try to see if this issue is caused by a low screen brightness level by increasing the brightness of your phone. If the issue occurs even in maximum brightness then perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone. Sometimes, a form of corrupt temporary data can cause this issue. Getting rid of this data is one way of fixing the problem.
  • Start your phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Do a factory reset. This will revert your phone software back to its original condition. Take note that you need to backup your phone data before doing this.

If the issue still occurs at this point then you should have your phone  checked at an authorized service center as this could already by a hardware related problem.

S5 Screen Is Black

Problem: I smashed my screen a couple of weeks ago and everything was fine until today I was using it and then parts of the screen just went black and I could just see the top and then after I used it the whole screen went black I tried taking the battery and sim out but none of it works and I can still hear the phone being on as I hear texts come through and when I press buttons.

Solution: It appears that the display has now become physically damaged. As far as troubleshooting goes, what you can do right now is to check the condition of the phone when it starts in recovery  mode. If by a slim chance the screen works normally in recovery mode then the problem could be caused by the phone software. I suggest you do a factory reset in this mode. Take note though that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before doing this.

If the screen is still black in recovery mode or if you are unable to access the recovery mode then chances are this issue is already caused by a damaged display. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. It’s very likely that you will have to replace the whole display assembly of your phone.

S5 Soaked In Ocean For 45 Minutes Does Not Turn On

Problem: My Samsung s5 was soaked on the ocean for almost 45 minutes, the battery was drained. After 4 hours I think I tried to charge my phone and opened it, and yes it did opened but the screen was not functioning, so I decided to turn if off, when I tried to open it again, it stopped and just kept on vibrating when I’m trying to reboot it.. Visit a technician and he found out that the LCD was full of rust, I can’t open my phone now but it’s still vibrating..Please help

Solution: The presence of rust inside the phone is an indication that water has entered the device. This means that the phone could be water damaged which is the reason why it won’t turn on. If this is the case I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. Each component will have to be tested in this case and the one that is not working will have to be replaced.

S5 Screen Black After charging Port Replacement

Problem: I changed the charging port on my phone but when I turned my phone on right after the screen was black. Can you please help me with this? Thank you

Solution: Try to check if the cable wire that connects the phone display to the board is connected properly. You should also verify that the charging port is properly attached to the phone. If you are unable to find any problem then try to return the original charging port and see if the screen works with it.

S5 Flickers At Dimmest Setting

Problem: I bought a refurbished s5 (still not cheap) and when it is on the dimmest setting, the screen flickers. I am worried this is a sign the screen is going out and I can still exchange it for a few more weeks. So if you think this flickering is a problem I will exchange it. It does not flicker on anything but the dimmest setting.

Solution: Because this phone uses a Super AMOLED display there is a high possibility that it will flicker in low brightness settings. This happens because as you reduce the brightness of the device each pixel of the screen will get a reduced current. The reduction of the current will cause the display to flicker.

You can however try to check if this issue is caused by a problem with the phone software by doing a factory reset ( make sure to backup your phone data first). If after the reset the issue still occurs and it bothers you then you can have the phone replaced. Make sure to check if the flickering issue occurs with the new device.

S5 Screen Is Unresponsive

Problem: After the update, my screen appears to go unresponsive after being locked for a while. It will not acknowledge attempts to access the camera, pin, or notifications. I can not even get the shutdown/restart menu to appear by holding the power button; though my phone will vibrate like it is going to. I have found that pulling the battery is will get the screen to work again, but then somewhere between 10 minutes – 2 hours the screen is doing it again.

Solution: If this issue happened just after the software update then it’s possible that it could be caused by data issues. Data from the old software version may not have been completely removed during the update and this is now causing the problem. To fix this you should first try to start your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This process delete the temporary data in your phone and usually helps. If the problem still occurs then it is highly recommended that you do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to create a backup copy first.

S5 Black Screen After Phone Dropped

Problem: Hi my mum dropped her s5 from no more than 2ft got a tiny crack in screen, the phone itself is still working as can hear notifications etc but the screen is black. Any idea how to fix this. Thinking it must be a wire or something. Thanks for your time

Solution: If the screen got cracked after the drop and you can’t see anything anymore but you can hear the notifications then there’s a possibility that the display got damaged.  You should however check if there are other factors causing this problem by starting your phone in recovery mode. If the screen is still black when trying to get to the recovery mode then this is already a hardware related problem caused by a damaged display. You will need to have the phone checked at an authorized service center. There’s a chance that the display will have to be replaced to get the phone working again.

S5 Screen Goes Black

Problem: My screen goes black. In order to turn it off, I have to take the battery out. Now when I put the battery back in and turn it on, I get a whole lot of colors on the screen in pixels and I don’t get a screen to operate anything at all. It goes back to black and that’s that. I get beeps that I have messages, email, but it just stays black. I cannot even see the screen to do a safe mode start or anything. It has always been in my LIfeproof case, so it looks brand new.

Solution: Just like the issue we tackled above this looks like a hardware problem already. Have you tried starting your phone in recovery mode? If you are unable to access the recovery mode then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. Since you didn’t drop the phone there’s a chance that this may just be caused by a loose connection. The worst case scenario is that you will have to replace the phone display.

If however you are able to access the recovery mode and can see the various options in this mode then I suggest you do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to do this only if you have a backup copy of your phone data.

S5 Dropped Now Screen Is Black

Problem: I dropped my phone trying to unclip it from my otterbox clip it hit face down on the corner of a parking block and cracked the screen now it’s totally black can’t see anything can hear it ring it’s only a month old

Solution: If you are able to hear notifications on your phone then there’s a chance the display got damaged when you dropped the phone. The best way to proceed in this case is to have your phone checked at an authorized service center. There’s a possibility that the display will have to be replaced if it is found to be defective.

S5 Can’t Read Screen After Phone Got Wet

Problem: This phone advertises it is waterproof.  I had it in my shorts side pocket, with charger inlet fully closed.  Was walking on beach when large wave came up to my mid-thigh.  Pocket got wet, and phone damp on the outside.  That night I plugged in phone to charge it.  Next morning everything looked fine.  I left it plugged in for the day.  When I returned there was a mostly black, though some blue, mould like images on the screen.  As the evening progressed, this grew to the point where I could not read the screen, though I could see that as I swiped scrolling worked.  What could be the problem?  And what should I do about it?

Solution: One of the features of this phone is that it is water-resistant and dust-resistant . It has an IP67 rating which means that can be submerged under 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. There are however some conditions that needs to be met in order for the phone to survive a dunk in the water. First, the back cover must be secured and must create a tight seal. Press the back cover until you hear a clicking on the edges. You should also make sure to press the cover just below the LED flash. The USB cover should also be covered tightly to seal the phone.

Since this problem occured right after the phone got wet then it’s possible that the phone internal hardware came in contact with water. You need to take out the battery first and check if there is any sign of liquid or moisture in your phone. I recommend placing the phone in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours then checking on it again. If the problem is still the same then I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center.

S5 Screen Is Black After Battery Got Drained

Problem: I used it this morning to take a photo, and then put it into my bag. In the afternoon I heard it power off because the battery was drained. I couldn’t get to a charger until the evening. After I charged it and tried to turn it on, the phone makes the power up sounds and voicemail sounds, but the screen is completely black. I am not seeing anything, not even the android boot screen. I have tried pulling the battery, but the screen is still black. Please help, I have no backup phone and don’t have the money for a new one right now!

Solution: To fix this problem you need to take out the battery first then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges the phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then connect the phone to its wall charger. Let it charge for at least 20 minutes before turning on the device.

S5 Screen Flickers Black When Charging

Problem: After charging or during charging- the screen will not come back on. It will flicker and immediately go blank. It takes several attempts to get the screen to come back on. Can you help solve the problem?

Solution: Try isolating the charger first as this may be causing the problem by supplying an incorrect charging voltage. Use a different wall charger and charging cord when charging your phone then check if the problem still occurs. If it does then proceed with starting the phone in recovery mode and wipe its cache partition. This deletes the temporary data in your phone which could be causing the problem. If at this point the issue still persists then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
