S5 Screen Glitching

Problem: I’m having a glitch thing occurring to my phone. I got it last year around October so it’s not that old. The problem is that when I press the power button on the side it doesn’t work sometimes. It just glitches and the screen turns green with lines and dims down. Then I press the home button and it sometimes doesn’t work to turn the phone on. Also let’s say I’m just using my phone and then I leave it there so it turns off by itself. The screen dims down and then again the green glitching starts. This occurs also when I connect the charger to my phone.

Solution: There’s a possibility that this issue could be a combination of a software and a hardware problem. What you need to do first is to backup your phone data since this will be deleted when we do the troubleshooting. You can use Kies or Smart Switch to do the backup.

Once your data is safe you need to start your phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done check if any of the issues still occur. It’s possible that the screen glitching issue will be resolved by the reset.

If the power button or home button still works intermittently or if the screen still glitches then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked as this may already be a hardware related issue.

S5 Screen Goes Black

Problem: If had this phone for 5 months now and the screen is acting funny I have it in a case and I bought it brand new. The screen when I cut it on will sometimes flash on for a split second and go black but the buttons on the bottom will light up. when my is powered on it take  around 10 times of me pressing the power button to get the screen to come on and stay on and not go black I have tried to master reset and all that but it didn’t work it does go into recovery mode so as you have said in many of your trouble shoots if it doesn’t it is most likely hardware this is a Samsung galaxy s5 it’s running android version 4.4.2 I’m not sure if that is the problem or not if I need find a way to update it or something to that extent I just need help as soon as you can thank y’all.

Solution: This display of this phone should easily be waken from sleep mode. If it is difficult to wake the screen even after performing a factory reset then this could already be a hardware related problem. You should however try to update your phone software first to the latest version since there is a possibility that the issue could be caused by conflicts between your phone apps and the system software.

S5 Screen Jitters

Problem: I bought the Wizgear universal visor phone mount which instructs you to stick a metal plate on the phone case so the magnet on the mount can hold your phone.  Shortly after attaching the metal plate to my phone and putting my phone on the magnetic holder, my screen began jumping around.  I took it off, removed the case and metal plate and restarted my phone, however it is still having the same issue.  I took the battery out and left the phone off, but it’s still having the same problem.  I even tried swapping out the battery with my husband’s (as he has the same phone), removing the SD card, and everything I can think of but the problem is still there.  The phone screen jumps around, jitters, and really is hard to use.  Also, there is a green ‘tinge’ around part of the background picture and when the phone is booting up or turning off, there is digital color ‘static’ across the whole screen.  I know it is the magnet that has damaged the phone and have contacted the maker, but in the meantime if you have any ideas on how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated!!  Thank you!

Solution: You can try to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done check if the issue still occurs. If it does then the problem could be caused by the magnet. Although magnets are generally safe, some are used in phone cases, a strong magnet may interfere with the phone display and in some cases can damage the phone circuit.

S5 Screen Does Not Recognize Fingers

Problem: My screen will not recognize my fingers, not even to swipe down to see the setting across the top, cannot unlock screen with a swipe.  Very frustrated. The phone as not gotten wet, the screen has been cleaned and it will not move.  I pulled the battery to power on and off, nothing changed.  Any help would be appreciated.

Solution: To fix this problem access the recovery mode of your phone. From here check if you can select the option available. If you can then I suggest you immediately do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so proceed at your own risk.

If you are unable to access the recovery mode or unable to select its options then there is a possibility that the digitizer of your phone could be damaged. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. You will probably need to have the digitizer replaced.

S5 Random Remote Icon Appears On Screen

Problem: A random icon popped up at the side of my screen (I think of a phone) and when I pressed it, my touch screen became unresponsive till it dies and I can’t turn it off without clicking on the screen otherwise I’d restart it when this happens

Solution: This icon belongs to the Peel Smart Remote app which has been introduced in your device through the latest software update. It appears that the widget has a bug causing your phone to freeze when you tap on it. The best way to deal with this issue right now is to disable the Peel Smart Remote app from the application manager. For a more permanent solution you should wait for another update for the app to arrive which could come with a fix to this bug.

S5 Flickering Screen

Problem: I have had my phone for 14 months.  I started having trouble with the screen that has not yet affected my ability to use the phone.  I usually leave my phone charge while I am sleeping. A couple months ago while I was travelling I started to have a flickering green fuzzy screen.  I do not leave it plugged in to charge anymore while I am sleeping but I still have the problem. It seems that when I get up the morning the phone screen is black even though all the functions are okay. The alarm will go off or notifications of sound. The screen will eventually come on but it is slow and I have to press the side power button and then the button at the bottom of the phone.  Once I get using the phone again it seems to have less problems and the screen is normal, but when I press the side button to lock the screen there is still that green buzzy flicker at the bottom and again to turn it on.  It also seems that if I take the battery out, it will start again more quickly without me having to wait.  I took it to a few shops, and they tell me it is the LCD but they could just be trying to sell me the repair or a new phone.  One of them suggested leaving it in to charge while sleeping may have caused it. The battery is ok.  It is not losing or gaining charge any differently.  Please advise on any suggestions. Thanks

Related Problem: My screen flickers. Not like a line or anything but a slight dimming to brighter setting flicker. I’ve cleaned the screen multiple times but it still does it. No water damage since it hasn’t been near water.

Related Problem: Hi, yes, my Samsung seems to be having a screen flickering issue. As soon as I turn on my phone, the screen flickers pink for a moment then goes to my actual lock screen. I was wondering how this was happening, since this started when I was watching videos on Google. Could I get an answer as soon as possible? Please and thank you!

Solution: You should first thoroughly check if the problem is caused by your phone software. Start by checking if some form of corrupt data is causing this problem by wiping the cache partition of your phone.

If the problem still persists then proceed with checking if an app you installed has anything to do with this. For this you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while those apps you downloaded are disabled. If the screen does not flicker in this mode then the issue may be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

In the event that your screen still flickers in Safe Mode then you need to backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the problem then this may already be hardware related possibly due to a faulty display. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Flickering Screen After Software Update

Problem: Ever since I updated my phone to the newer software version  my phone screen has been flickering a lot when I dim the brightness of the screen or when I turn power saving mode on. When I restart it its fine but then a couple minutes later it starts doing it again. It also happens when the screen is about to turn off since I have it on the 1 minute screen timeout option. Please help!

Solution: Since this problem started right after the software update then it may be caused by old software data that may still be in your phone. This old data is conflicting with the new software version and is causing this problem. To get rid of this old software data you should backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

S5 Flickering Screen Then Goes Black

Problem: I had a samsung s5 flickering screen then going black took it to samsung who gave me new device and its started flickering again had my first 1 over a year before it done this and this ones brand new and still doing it its very annoying as i really liked this fone before this and cant afford a new one its not goin black this time just flickering quite bad  ive done the *#0*# thing but doesn’t tell me anything please help thanks.

Solution: Try checking first if the phone software has anything to do with this problem. Start by wiping the cache partition of your phone. This eliminates the temporary data in your device which if corrupt may cause this type of problem.

You should also check if an app installed in your phone is causing this by starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. If the screen flickering issue does not occur in this mode then an app may be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the screen still flickers even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

If at this point the issue still persists then this could already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Goes Black

Problem: Hey Im generally rough with my phone. Ive dropped it a lot but for the most part it still works. Within the past 3 to 4 days, this issue has been popping up. When the phone is on, the screen just goes black. I can see the led light, and even make regular sounds, vibrations, or music come out, just the screen is unresponsive. So when I take the battery out to reset it, then put it back in and try and turn it on, i have to try 15-20 times. it turns on and the screen works the last time, but the 15-20 times i try to turn it on before that, i see a flicker of lines across the screen then black. the phone is still on, i get vibration feedback and the led flashes. Im thinking when i dropped it, the connection between the system and the screen is loose? can i take it apart and fix it on my own? (id be willing to take the risk of permanent damage)

Solution: This is most likely a hardware related issue already caused by dropping the device. Either the display is already defective or there may be a loose connection somewhere. You can take apart your phone if you are comfortable with the procedure. There are several videos on YouTube detailing this procedure. Make sure to follow the procedure concerning the display only since this is where you will be concentrating on.

S5 Screen Issue After Getting Wet

Problem: My boyfriend dropped his phone in the water and when he try to turn it on it went blank so we let dry and it started turning on but it won’t look right so I was wondering if it’s fixable. Thank you

Solution:  Since the phone got wet the first thing you should do is take out its battery, SIM card, and microSD card. Bury the phone in a bowl of rice for at least 48 hours. The rice will absorb the moisture inside the phone. While waiting for the 48 hours make sure the battery, SIM, and microSD are dry.

After the 48 hour period reinsert the battery then turn on your phone. If the issue still persists then the device may have suffered some water damage. It’s best to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Won’t Update To Marshmallow

Problem: Hi Two weeks ago a friend of mine send me a brand new Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900A Unlocked cellphone 16gb. The baseband version number is G900AUCU4BOF3 ,it says android version is 5.0 ..The problem here is that it won’t update to marshmallow it says it’s up to date but not to the latest update. Also the google map does not work away from home ,it says it’s offline and doesn’t get wifi away from home .. I did the airplane mode thing turned it on and off and nothing also did the settings on google map I’m guessing it’s GPS..it doesn’t work .Another thing is it has this menu bar at the bottom of the screen when I am browsing the internet at home can’ t get rid of it .. I installed an app to check for updates supposedly  to marshmallow and it said my device is not compatible ,please help tell me what I need to do thank you.

Solution: What you need to do first in this particular issue is to start the phone fresh. Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete don’t install anything in your phone just yet. Let’s try to tackle the issues that you have with your phone by following the troubleshooting steps listed below.

Doesn’t upgrade to Marshmallow

  • Do you know what carrier the phone was originally locked to? Try inserting a SIM card of that carrier to the phone then do the update.
  • Try updating the phone using Kies or Smart Switch.
  • Consider flashing the updated firmware file to your phone. Instructions on how to flash your device can be found at several of the popular android forums online.

Google Maps Not Working

  • Make sure that the phone GPS and mobile data switch is on.

Wi-Fi Not Working

  • If after the factory reset the Wi-Fi is still not working then you should have the phone checked at a service center.

S5 Running Marshmallow Keeps On Freezing

Problem: Hi I have a Samsung s5 running marshmallow and it keeps freezing since I’ve done the latest update. I’ve done factory reset even used Odin and went back to lollipop becuz I didn’t have problems back then. I have no apps installed no SD card installed and it still freezes. I can hear the keyboard still typing when I type but nothing shows up and I have to turn it off and on again to finish typing to only have it freeze again. Please help!

Solution: It looks like this issue is caused by a faulty digitizer. You will need to have the display assembly isolated to check if this is causing the problem by replacing it with a new one. Bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 AT&T Locked To Be Used In Sprint Network

Problem: A friend gave me his AT&T samsung galaxy s5 and I want to use it on my Sprint account. I have a sprint SIM card for it but it prompts me for an unlock code. Is there a free way to switch it to Sprint? I have seen numerous websites wanting money and claiming to be able to unlock it, but I can’t find direct evidence it has worked for anyone. Thanks

Solution: You will need the services of an unlocking provider to unlock the device since the correct code must be entered on the device to unlock it. Alternatively, if the phone is already out of contract from AT&T the original owner can request for the phone to be unlocked by following this link https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1008728 .

S5 Software Update Not Available

Problem: Ok i have the samsung galaxy s5 active when 4.4.4 version. When i try to do a software update it says your phone is up to date.. and i know its not please help

Solution:  There are several conditions that your phone must meet in order for it to be able to get the updated software. These conditions are detailed below.

  • Your phone must be running on its original carrier. This applies to phones that have been unlocked and are used on a different carrier.
  • The phone must not be rooted.
  • The phone must not be running on a custom software.

If your phone meets the conditions listed above and it is still not getting any updates then perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
  • Check for the update using the OTA method
  • Try using Kies or Smart Switch to update your phone.

If the issue still persists then you should consider manually flashing the updated firmware file to your phone. Instructions on how to perform this procedure can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Loses Service

Problem: One day my samsung galaxy s5 just lost service. I would restart it and if it stayed playing on it it would keep service. As soon as I would set it aside I would lose service. It will also drop in the middle of my call anywhere I’m at. I went to Verizon they gave me a new Sim card and said it should work. It didn’t work so I factory reset it and it is still having the same problem.

Solution: Have you tried checking if the network signal is strong in your area? If it is then this problem could already be caused by an issue with the phone hardware. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center that’s capable of doing board level repairs.

S5 Screen Goes Black

Problem: I have a black screen issue on my S5 mini where i have tried safe reboot and hard reboot. I have taken the battery out and held down power for 1-2 min to drain any residual power in the phone. Then after i replace the battery and turn on power, the samsung/android logo flashes on and then the screen goes blank. the Power symbol can flash up but only for a split second (the same as the android logo) and then the screen goes black. I can recharge the battery and see the red LED light in top left corner. I can receive texts or messages as i hear the notification sound and vibrate. When i try soft reboot or hard reboot, the screen is black the entire time so i can not navigate to anything that all the help webpages show. How can you fix a black screen issue when you cannot see what you are doing? Your help would be awesome

Solution: Have you tried starting the phone in recovery mode? If the screen works in this mode then you can do a factory reset from here. If the screen remains black in this mode then the problem could be caused by a defective display. If this is the case then you will need to bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Not Registering Touch

Problem: There is an invisible line in the middle of my screen that won’t register touch. It started just the right side but now is all the way across. There is no crack haven’t dropped it nothing. Also my keyboard doesn’t always register the letter to type. It also randomly selects things while scrolling Facebook or any app.

Solution: You will need to check first if this problem is caused by a glitch in the phone software by doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. If the issue persists after the reset then this could very likely be caused by a damaged digitizer. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Does Not Turn On

Problem: The phone turns on but the screen doesn’t turn on. I am able to access the phone using SideSync. The screen does turn on when I do a factory reset but it develops the same problem after some time. Also, I am able to turn on the screen sometimes by taking the battery out and putting it back in while the phone is still on charge. If I do it while the phone is not on charge, it doesn’t turn on. Can you help please?

Solution: If the issue disappears after a factory reset but then reappears after some time then it’s possible that an app installed in your phone could be causing the problem. To check if this is the case just start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it’s possible that an app is causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue still persist even in Safe Mode then this could already be a hardware problem. I suggest you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Rotation Not Working

Problem: My screen rotation doesn’t work. It is turned on and smart rotation is turned off but it won’t rotate. If I turn off my device and remove the battery and wait a few seconds and put it back together and start it up, the screen rotation will work for about 10 minutes and then go back to not working. This is very frustrating.

Solution: If the screen rotation works after restarting the phone then the problem could be caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone. Try wiping the cache partition of your device from the recovery mode then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Screen Not Turning On After Overnight Charge

Problem: Left phone on charger all night took off. Charger screen won’t come on tried a brand new factory battery. I can feel it vibrate but no display. Every now and then at random will vibrate and flash red writing in top left of screen there and gone to fast for me to read.

Solution: Try taking out the battery and microsD card (if your phone has one installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge your phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then try to turn on your phone. If it doesn’t turn on then proceed with charging your phone.

Before charging your phone make sure that

  • You clean the charging port by using a can of compressed air or by blowing to it using a straw. The aim here is to take out any dirt or debris that could be present in the port.
  • Use a different charging cord when charging the phone.

If the issue still persist then try starting your phone in recovery mode. This is a working environment separate from the main operating system of your phone. If you are able to access this mode then the issue might be software related. I suggest you do a factory reset from here. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before you proceed with this.

If the above steps fail to resolve the problem then you should have your phone checked at a service center as this could already be a hardware related issue.

S5 Screen Goes Black

Problem: Screen goes black after entering a rest state..resetting battery works about 10% of the time I did a factory reset and the same issue occurs…phone appears to be functioning properly other than the screen going black

Solution: Try to check if an app installed in your phone is causing this problem by starting your phone in Safe Mode. While the phone is in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. Observe if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the problem still occurs even in Safe Mode and since you already did a factory reset I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center as this could be a hardware related issue.

S5 Screen Freezes

Problem: Hi there! Issue first started with the lower half of the screen flickering whenever I plugged it into the power cord. Adjusting the screen brightness took care of that. I knew that wasn’t a permanent solution but chugged along like that for a couple of months. Now the screen has started freezing up no matter what app I am using. I have to click the power button, and turn it on again a few sec later, and I am able to use it like normal again, for a few seconds, before it freezes again. I did a factory reset this morning, and nothing has changed. I can barely complete a couple of swipes before it freezes up again. The factory restart took me almost two hours to do because of the freezing up. Really hope you can help, thanks!

Solution: Since you already did a factory reset which did not fix the issue I suspect the problem is caused by the display. Bring your phone to a service center then have this checked.

S5 Screen Is Unresponsive

Problem: When the phone rings the first time it works perfectly but if the same number calls back, the screen is unresponsive to swiping. It just won’t register my finger swipe! If a different number calls it works fine. What could that possibly be?

Solution: Try wiping the cache partition of your phone as this problem could be caused by some form of corrupt temporary data. You should also clear the cache and data of the phone app from the application manager. If the issue persists then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Screen Unresponsive After Marshmallow Update

Problem: immediately after updating to marshmallow the screen became intermittently unresponsive and now is totally locked up. no way to even power down the phone except by removing the battery.

Solution: It’s possible that some form of old software data is causing this issue. The best way to deal with this issue is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Screen Has Horizontal Lines Issue & Other Related Problems

When the #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 was released in 2014 it had one of the best displays on a smartphone available then in the market. This devices uses a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. Today, the phone display is still quite good even when compared to some of the latest smartphone releases. There are however instances when screen related issues can occur on this phone. This is what we will be concentrating on today as we tackle the Galaxy S5 screen has horizontal lines issue & other related problems.

S5 Screen Has Horizontal Lines

Problem: My screen has a series of horizontal running lines. It has 3 thin green lines, a thicker green line and a purple line all next to each other on the left side of my screen. Each line has appeared separately over time. Has not gone away and i have done the pixel fix 60 minute test on it and still has not resolved my problem. Phone works fine otherwise.

Solution: Try starting your phone in Safe Mode and check if the same issue occurs. When the phone is operating in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the same issue occurs in Safe Mode then I suggest you try to do a factory reset. This will restore your phone back to its original condition. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone yet. Check first if the issue still occurs.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the problem then you should have your phone checked at a service center as the problem could be caused by a damaged display.

S5 Greenish LIght Flickering

Problem: good day. i don’t have any problems with my phone’s performance as of now but one thing i have noticed is when i lock the screen, a greenish light appears on half of the screen before it totally locks. it is also like this whenever i dim my screen at the lowest level. the greenish light flickers. as mentioned i don’t have any issues with the performance and battery but this just disturbs me.. and i’m wondering if there is something wrong with my phone.. i have dropped it around 2 to 3 times i think.. i hope you can help me 🙂 thank you..

Solution: You should check first if the issue is software related by following the troubleshooting steps listed below. Check if the issue still occurs after following each step then move to the next step if the issue still occurs.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. While the phone is operating in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to resolve the issue then the problem is most likely hardware related possibly caused by the display itself. Since this is just a minor issue that doesn’t affect the phone’s usability and performance then you can just ignore it. However, if you would like this issue to go away then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Black Screen

Problem: Hi, Im a owner of the Samsung galaxy s5. Yesterday my boyfriend had my phone. It was working all day and he put it on the bed. and when he came back from the store he picked it up and the screen was all black. but the phone still works you can hear the message ringtone and the message blue light in the top left corner comes on but you can’t see nothing. We think it might be from the heat because it was really hot yesterday and he had gone to work and the phone was in his pocket and it’s hot in the warehouse. and my phone already had a crack on the screen from couple months ago. and when we locked at the phone we seen all these extra cracks we haven’t seen before and we haven’t dropped it at all lately and the cracks that we just discovered are from the inside. but idk if it may of been bc of the heat.

Solution: A combination of the heat and the crack on the display might be causing the screen to black out. Since you are still getting notification sounds then it’s very likely that the issue is caused by a damaged display. Try starting your phone in recovery mode. If the display works in this mode then I suggest you do a factory reset from here. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy first. If you can’t see anything on the screen when in recovery mode then the chances of the display being damaged is high. I suggest you bring the phone to a service center and have it checked. You may need to have the display replaced.

S5 Screen Keeps Flickering

Problem: the screens works most of the time and while it starts flickering over at the end of the screen without any reason. i have tried hard resetting and everything that is listed on the website but i was told by one of the technicians that there was some kind of problem with octa core or sth. Please can you help me out. Thanks

Solution: Try turning off the auto brightness feature of your phone then manually set the brightness level to its maximum setting. Check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then the issue could be caused by the sensor that’s constantly adjusting the screen brightness level. I suggest you disable the auto brightness feature if this is the case.

If the problem still occurs even with the auto brightness feature disabled then the problem could be caused by the phone display itself. You will need to have the phone checked at a service center if this is the case.

S5 Screen Goes Black

Problem: So i went swimming yesterday and took my phone with me like i always do. But this time water went in my camera so i opened the back and took my battery out. I found that there was water under my battery. So i dried it and used my phone normally. It was working fine. Then an hour later the screen went blank and sometime a faint yellow screen will appear for 2 seconds and then again go black. Although i can recieve calls, hear sounds and get vibrations and even unlock my phone. Please help me

Solution: It’s very likely that this issue is caused by water entering your device. I suggest you thoroughly dry the phone first by placing it in a bag or rice or silica gel. Make sure to take out the back cover, battery, SIM card, and microSD card when you do this. Leave the phone in the bag for 2-3 days. This will allow the moisture inside the phone to dry out.

Try to check if the same issue still occurs. If the same issue occurs then you should have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Will Not Turn On

Problem: Whenever i turn off my phone to leave it off then turn it back on after a bit, and press the start or the middle button, and it doesn’t turn on. Sometimes when i press the start button and try pressing around on the screen, i can actually hear the lock screen going but the screen still wouldn’t turn on.

Solution: This issue might be caused by a glitch in the phone software. Try to start your phone in recovery mode. If you are able to access this mode then wipe the cache partition of your phone first in this mode. This will delete the temporary data of your phone which could be causing the problem. If the issue persists then I suggest you do a factory reset from recovery mode. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding.

If the above steps fail to resolve the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Recent Button Activates On Its Own

Problem: My Samsung galaxy s5 fell on the floor and there was little damage done to the screen.  Ever since then, the screen has been pressing the recent screen button by itself.  It kinda gets worse when I have a slow Internet connection.

Solution: The drop might have damaged the portion where the recent button is located. If doing a factory reset does not resolve this issue ( make sure to backup your phone data before doing this) then you should have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Delay After Marshmallow Update

Problem: After the latest Android version update (6.0.1 Marshmallow) I noticed that when I press the main button on the front of the phone the screen illuminates slowly rather than instantaneously as it did before the update.  Is this the result of the update or is there a setting I can change to have it illuminate faster?  Thanks.

Solution: The lag you are experiencing is most likely caused by the update. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone first from the recovery mode then check if the problem still occurs. If it does then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Green Vertical Lines

Problem: I started with one green vertical line on the left side of the screen then they became 2 and then the third line added but now very close to the second line

Solution: Try checking if an app installed in your phone is causing this problem by starting the device in Safe Mode. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what ap this is and uninstall it. If the issue occurs even in Safe Mode then proceed with a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked. It’s possible that the display of your phone has been damaged.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Screen Unresponsive To Touch Issue & Other Display Related Problems

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 is one of the former flagship models of the South Korean giant that sports an excellent display. For this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the display related issues that our readers are facing. More specifically we will tackle the Galaxy S5 screen unresponsive to touch issue & other display related problems.  We have gathered several issues of this nature that have been sent to us lately and have addressed them below.

S5 Screen Unresponsive To Touch

Problem: The screen on my S5 is totally frozen. It is completely unresponsive to touch in any way. This has happened before and usually just a simple battery break would do the trick, or sometimes I would have to take out the SIM card as well. Now nothing is working. Everything else about the phone seems to be working fine. It will notify me when texts come in and when I get emails etc. except I can’t see them because my phone is locked. It was recommended to me that I do a hard reboot. I did, but to no avail, the screen is still unresponsive.

Solution: The problem could be caused by a faulty digitizer. Since you already performed a factory reset which failed to resolve the issue then it’s very likely that this could already be a hardware problem. I suggest you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Goes Black

Problem: My phone goes black and will not turn back on unless I take out the battery and it has glitches on me before and I’ve tried updating it but it says I have no system updates… I don’t want to go through Verizon because they are rude… But i would like help

Solution: Since you mentioned that the issue temporarily gets resolved by taking out the battery then it’s very likely that this is caused by issues with the phone software. Listed below are the recommended troubleshooting steps that you need to do in cases such as this. Move to the next step if the current step you performed fails to resolve the problem.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This deletes the phone’s temporary data which if corrupt can cause this problem. Restart your phone then check if the issue still occurs.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Flashes Yellow Then Go Blank

Problem: Occasionally (about 50% of the time) when I turn the screen on, the screen will flash yellow, and go blank. Sometimes it will return to normal after pressing the power button a few times, and other times, I have to take out the battery to get the phone to restart. I haven’t downloaded any new apps in the past month or so, and the yellow flash just started happening the other day.

Solution: There are many ways to attack this issue. You can start by checking if an app is causing the problem by starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the preinstalled apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. You need to observe if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Another factor that can cause this problem is some form of corrupt temporary data in the device. To check if this is the case you need to start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This action takes out the temporary data of the phone.

One last troubleshooting step that you should consider is a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy of your phone data before doing this.

If the above steps fail to resolve the issue then this could already be a hardware related issue. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center if this is the case.

S5 Screen Turns Black After Firmware Update

Problem: I recently updated my firmware to the latest version and since then my screen keeps on flickering and sometimes the phone keeps hanging and then restarts itself. Your help will be very welcome. Thanks

Solution: Is this the official firmware which you got from the official channel? If it is then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This will delete the old software data which could still be in your phone and is causing the problem. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone just yet. You should first check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you should consider downgrading your phone back to the previous firmware version. To do this you will need to flash the previous firmware to your device. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Swipe Not Working After Phone Got Wet

Problem: After dropping my phone in the toilet and drying it the phone is turning on and the screen is fine but won’t allow me to swipe or touch it

Solution: It looks like the digitizer may be damaged by the water. Try starting your phone in recovery mode then see if you can do a factory from here. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to only do this if you have a backup copy.

If you are unable to perform a factory reset then this is already a hardware issue. I suggest you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Is Black

Problem: I had the galaxy s5 for only 2months new, at first the scream would just turn black, now it stays black all other buttons work and the light on them by the screen remains black.

Related Problem: Screen remains black. I can hear when the phone rings or someone leaves a message but I cannot access as screen black. Thank you, would appreciate some advice.

Solution: What you can do in this case is to start the phone in recovery mode. This is a separate environment from the main operating system. If you are able to access this mode then it’s very likely that a glitch in the phone software is causing the problem. I recommend you do a factory reset in this mode.

If you are unable to access the recovery mode then the display of the phone could already be damaged. Bring your phone to an authorized service center then have it checked if this is the case.

In this latest installment of the series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 screen is unresponsive issue & other related problems. When this problem occurs you won’t be able to do anything with the phone since it appears to be frozen. We will also tackle several other screen related issues such as the usual black screen issue and screen flickering issue.

S5 Screen Is Unresponsive

Problem: After the update, my screen appears to go unresponsive after being locked for a while. It will not acknowledge attempts to access the camera, pin, or notifications. I can not even get the shutdown/restart menu to appear by holding the power button; though my phone will vibrate like it is going to. I have found that pulling the battery is will get the screen to work again, but then somewhere between 10 minutes – 2 hours the screen is doing it again.

Solution: If this issue happened just after the software update then it’s possible that it could be caused by data issues. Data from the old software version may not have been completely removed during the update and this is now causing the problem. To fix this you should first try to start your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This process delete the temporary data in your phone and usually helps. If the problem still occurs then it is highly recommended that you do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to create a backup copy first.

S5 Black Screen After Phone Dropped

Problem: Hi my mum dropped her s5 from no more than 2ft got a tiny crack in screen, the phone itself is still working as can hear notifications etc but the screen is black. Any idea how to fix this. Thinking it must be a wire or something. Thanks for your time

Solution: If the screen got cracked after the drop and you can’t see anything anymore but you can hear the notifications then there’s a possibility that the display got damaged.  You should however check if there are other factors causing this problem by starting your phone in recovery mode. If the screen is still black when trying to get to the recovery mode then this is already a hardware related problem caused by a damaged display. You will need to have the phone checked at an authorized service center. There’s a chance that the display will have to be replaced to get the phone working again.

S5 Screen Goes Black

Problem: My screen goes black. In order to turn it off, I have to take the battery out. Now when I put the battery back in and turn it on, I get a whole lot of colors on the screen in pixels and I don’t get a screen to operate anything at all. It goes back to black and that’s that. I get beeps that I have messages, email, but it just stays black. I cannot even see the screen to do a safe mode start or anything. It has always been in my LIfeproof case, so it looks brand new.

Solution: Just like the issue we tackled above this looks like a hardware problem already. Have you tried starting your phone in recovery mode? If you are unable to access the recovery mode then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. Since you didn’t drop the phone there’s a chance that this may just be caused by a loose connection. The worst case scenario is that you will have to replace the phone display.

If however you are able to access the recovery mode and can see the various options in this mode then I suggest you do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to do this only if you have a backup copy of your phone data.

S5 Dropped Now Screen Is Black

Problem: I dropped my phone trying to unclip it from my otterbox clip it hit face down on the corner of a parking block and cracked the screen now it’s totally black can’t see anything can hear it ring it’s only a month old

Solution: If you are able to hear notifications on your phone then there’s a chance the display got damaged when you dropped the phone. The best way to proceed in this case is to have your phone checked at an authorized service center. There’s a possibility that the display will have to be replaced if it is found to be defective.

S5 Can’t Read Screen After Phone Got Wet

Problem: This phone advertises it is waterproof.  I had it in my shorts side pocket, with charger inlet fully closed.  Was walking on beach when large wave came up to my mid-thigh.  Pocket got wet, and phone damp on the outside.  That night I plugged in phone to charge it.  Next morning everything looked fine.  I left it plugged in for the day.  When I returned there was a mostly black, though some blue, mould like images on the screen.  As the evening progressed, this grew to the point where I could not read the screen, though I could see that as I swiped scrolling worked.  What could be the problem?  And what should I do about it?

Solution: One of the features of this phone is that it is water-resistant and dust-resistant . It has an IP67 rating which means that can be submerged under 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. There are however some conditions that needs to be met in order for the phone to survive a dunk in the water. First, the back cover must be secured and must create a tight seal. Press the back cover until you hear a clicking on the edges. You should also make sure to press the cover just below the LED flash. The USB cover should also be covered tightly to seal the phone.

Since this problem occured right after the phone got wet then it’s possible that the phone internal hardware came in contact with water. You need to take out the battery first and check if there is any sign of liquid or moisture in your phone. I recommend placing the phone in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours then checking on it again. If the problem is still the same then I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center.

S5 Screen Is Black After Battery Got Drained

Problem: I used it this morning to take a photo, and then put it into my bag. In the afternoon I heard it power off because the battery was drained. I couldn’t get to a charger until the evening. After I charged it and tried to turn it on, the phone makes the power up sounds and voicemail sounds, but the screen is completely black. I am not seeing anything, not even the android boot screen. I have tried pulling the battery, but the screen is still black. Please help, I have no backup phone and don’t have the money for a new one right now!

Solution: To fix this problem you need to take out the battery first then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges the phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then connect the phone to its wall charger. Let it charge for at least 20 minutes before turning on the device.

S5 Screen Flickers Black When Charging

Problem: After charging or during charging- the screen will not come back on. It will flicker and immediately go blank. It takes several attempts to get the screen to come back on. Can you help solve the problem?

Solution: Try isolating the charger first as this may be causing the problem by supplying an incorrect charging voltage. Use a different wall charger and charging cord when charging your phone then check if the problem still occurs. If it does then proceed with starting the phone in recovery mode and wipe its cache partition. This deletes the temporary data in your phone which could be causing the problem. If at this point the issue still persists then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Screen Will Flicker Issue & Other Related Problems

The #Samsung Galaxy #S5 has undoubtedly one of the best displays available for a smartphone in the market today. Sporting a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, images appear vivid and lifelike making it a favorite among consumers. As a former flagship model of the company, we expect nothing less from this device.

Samsung Galaxy S5

There are however instances when screen  related issues can occur on this model. This is what we will be trying to resolve today as we tackle the Galaxy S5 screen will flicker issue & other related problems. We have gathered several issues of this nature sent to us by our readers and have addressed them below.

S5 Screen Will Flicker

Problem: When i adjust the brightness to its lowest, or anything below 80% the screen will violently flicker green as if i’m being hacked or i dropped the phone recently… which i haven’t. Is there anyway to fix this? Or should i just go to phone store to fix it? Or get a replacement etc.

Solution: Phone’s using a Super AMOLED display are known to flicker when the brightness is set to a low or minimum setting. The issue which you are having is different though as the screen will flicker green even when the brightness is set to below 80% which shouldn’t be the case. Before doing any troubleshooting make sure that your phone is running the latest software update.

The first thing to do is for  you to backup your phone data then immediately do a factory reset. This will allow you to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch. If after the reset you are still having the same issue then this is most likely a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. If this is a hardware issue it is usually caused by a poor connection between the display and the board or the display itself could be faulty.

S5 Screen Flickers When Brightness Set To Minimum

Problem: When I turn screen brightness to minimum without having Automatic brightness on. The screens flickers terrible. It looks like the screen is divided into 3 sections with the bottom third being brightest then middle part being slightly darker and top third being darkest. The flickering is more noticeable on the bottom third than middle third and even less noticeable on top third. If I turn brightness up very slightly then the flickering stops. Any ideas please? Thanks

Solution: This is a common issue on phone’s using a Super AMOLED display due to the way this technology works. In an AMOLED display each pixel emits its own light unlike in a traditional LCD display an array of light is projected to the pixels. When you decrease the brightness in an AMOLED display this decreases the current supplied to the pixels. The reduction of current causes the pixels to flicker or pulse which is what you can observe as a screen flickering effect.  While this does not happen on all devices using a Super AMOLED display it is a common occurrence on this phone types.

To troubleshoot this problem and determine if it is caused by a glitch in the phone software you need to make sure first that your phone is running on the latest software update. The new update could have a fix to this issue.

Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once this is done check if the issue still occurs. If it still occurs then you should consider bringing your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Turned Black

Problem: It first started with the screen becoming static and then it would turn black. When the screen turned black, you can still receive feedback when pressing buttons or the screen. After a few seconds, it would just freeze and turn itself off. I have tried the turning off the phone. removing the battery, sim, sd cards etc and holding down the power button. It would turn on for a few seconds and then same problem occurs. The phone has already been factory reset. The phone works for a couple of minutes if I turn off the phone, remove the battery and press from behind the phone mainly where the battery was above the speaker.

Solution: This could already be a hardware related problem. Have you tried using a new battery on your phone? If you haven’t then try it first. If the issue still persists then I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center.

S5 Does Not Swipe To Unlock

Problem: Hi I got my s5 from amazon about 4 weeks ago (to replace an s3) and I waited until I could get to the ATT store for help to get my data and SIM card transferred and so forth. Oh and they installed an Armour Tech Screen Protector. When I got home I noticed that I could not “swipe” the screen to unlock. After a few tries I did make it open and I sent a couple of messages and installed my email app and I put it aside.  I think that was the last time it opened for me. Since then I can’t get it to “unlock” even though I’ve unplugged and reconnected the battery. It also won’t turn off (pushing the side button I can get the turn off menu but I can’t get any options to engage).

Solution: It’s possible that the screen protector is interfering with the touchscreen sensitivity making it difficult to swipe. Another possible reason that this problem is occuring is a due to a glitch in the phone software.

I suggest you backup your phone data first then do a factory reset. You will also need to take note of your phone APN settings before doing this procedure since if it gets lost after the reset you can easily set it back. This setting is needed for your phone to connect to the mobile data network of AT&T and to send receive picture messages.

If the issue still persists then you should consider removing the screen protector.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center as this could already be a hardware related problem. If I were to guess I’d say this could be caused by a faulty digitizer.

S5 Blank Screen

Problem: Phone has blank screen. Have to warm phone up against my skin for about 15 mins to get the screen on sometimes up to an hour. If I do not keep constantly touching screen it goes blank and won’t come back on. Then I have to take battery out and start again. Can take another 20 mis. Also after a while it flickers and screen goes green. Phone also gets hot.

Solution: There’s a possibility that the problem could be caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone. To check if this is the case you need to start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. Reboot the phone then check if the issue still occurs.

If the problem still appears then proceed with backing up your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the reset fails to resolve the issue then this could already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Goes Black

Problem: Screen comes on boots up then goes black. All of my hard keys and soft keys work fine. I can’t recall dropping it or anything it just started doing it. Can take battery out and put it back it will work for not even a minute then goes black again.

Related Problem: The screen goes black,  it flickers then it displays a green background with all thin black lines on the whole screen.

Solution: Try connecting your phone to its wall charger then check if the display still goes black. If it doesn’t then this may be caused by a faulty battery not providing the correct voltage. Getting a new battery will help in this scenario.

If the problem still occurs even if the wall charger is connected then the next troubleshooting step is to determine if this is a software related issue. Start with wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.

if the problem still persists then try to backup your phone data ( you need to use Kies or Smart Switch to do this) then do a factory reset from the recovery mode.

If you are unable to access the recovery mode or if the factory reset fails to resolve the problem then this could already be a hardware related issue. If this is the case then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Flickers

Problem: Hello, My screen’s phone flickers, but not in the way most people here describe. When there are two contrasting colors one next to each other, the pixels start shaking following that line. For example if there’s white text in a dark background, it becomes hard to read the shaky letters. It improves a little if the image is fixed, but if I zoom in for example, it goes a little crazy for a few seconds. It goes away if the colors are similar. It happens with every brightness setting, but less if it’s darker. It happens all over the screen, but not at the same time, I mean, only a spot of pixels will shake at a time. It happened for the first time the day I received my device. I turned it off and back on and it went away for a month, but now it happened again and it isn’t going away. Any tips would be greatly appreciated and thanks for your time!!

Solution: It looks like this problem is caused by the phone display. Try checking first if this is caused by a software issue by backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset. Once the reset is done do not update the software or app yet. Instead, proceed with checking if the issue still occurs. If the problem still persists then I think the display may be faulty or loose. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Flickers Then Goes Black

Problem: When I press the power button to turn my screen on. It flickers and goes blank. I know my screen is on because the back button lights up and I can capture a glimpse of my lock screen before it goes black. I know it’s not a software issue, I believe it is hardware issue. Is there anyway I can fix this problem. Without spending a 100 dollars fixing it.

Solution: You should first verify if the issue is indeed not caused by your phone software by starting your phone in recovery mode. If you can access the recovery mode then I suggest you immediately do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data.

If the screen is still black even in recovery mode then this is most likely a hardware problem already. Several tests have to be done on the components of the phone to determine which part is failing. The best way to proceed in this case is to bring your phone to an authorized service center.

S5 Screen Goes Black

Problem: When booting phone up I am able to see the Samsung galaxy screen and the Verizon screen but once it fully boot my screen goes black. The screen is still active through this and my soft keys on the bottom still light up. The same happens when I turn phone off…I can see the “title” screens.  I have tried all of the safe mode reboots and even completely factory reset the phone and I’m still having the same problem. If I leave the phone powered in and let it sit for a while the screen light up for maybe 30 -40 seconds but then goes black again!

Solution: When trying to turn on your phone and the screen goes black have you tried checking if it is getting any notifications such as phone calls or text messages? If it still gets notification then the issue could be with the phone display. If no notification arrive then the issue could be with the board. Try to check if the issue still occurs with the SIM and microSD card removed. If the problem still persists then  I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Freezes Then Goes Black

Problem: Yesterday everything was working fine until last night. My screen froze and went black and stayed black until I removed the battery. The buttons on the boom stayed lit up for a little while then they shut off too. Now when I restart it by taking the battery out, it will start like normal for a few minutes, then the screen will freeze on whatever I’m on,then go black.

Solution: There’s a possibility that this problem could be caused by an issue with the phone software. If you can backup your phone data then do it first. Next, start your phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete the data stored in your phone.

If the phone can’t access the recovery mode or if doing a factory reset does not resolve the problem then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Does Not Wake After Software Update

Problem: Hello, I recently updated my phone within the last couple of weeks. Since the update I’ve noticed the when I click the “home” button on the front of my phone to wake it up so I can use it, it doesn’t always let my phone become available to use. It flashes up like it’s going to work then it goes back black screen. I’ve also used the power button to get my screen to show up and same problem. I would do both those methods to try to get my screen to show up but it takes multiple clicks and a few minutes to get my screen up and going. I haven’t even had my phone for a year. I have a life proof case, so no drastic drops, etc to it. I’ve taken the battery out and restarted my phone still encountering the problem. I’d appreciate your help.

Solution: The problem is most likely caused by conflicts in the phone data brought about by the software update. What usually happens in this case is that data from the old software version is not completely removed during the update. This old data then causes a conflict with the new software resulting in this issue. I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset to resolve this problem.

S5 Flickers At Low Brightness

Problem: Whenever i make my brightness to zero, my screen starts flickering. Half of my screen flickers and sometimes whenever i tap the power button a green light appears on the bottom of the screen. If my phone is not on the lowest brightness, flickering does not occur. Please help. I tried rebooting and clearing the cache.

Solution: This screen flickering issue is common on devices with a Super AMOLED screen especially at low brightness settings. You could try starting your phone in Safe Mode to check if a third party app installed in your phone is causing this problem. Once your phone is in Safe Mode try to lower its brightness. If the screen does not flicker then the problem is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. If the screen still flickers then I suggest you backup your phone data the do a factory reset.

If the screen still flickers after the reset then this problem is most likely caused by a hardware issue. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it  checked.
