S5 Screen Has Green Speckles

Problem: I have galaxy S5. It have been two days since it is having this problem. Everytime, I lock or unlock the phone, green speckles spread across the screen for a moment. I am worried if it is a symptom for some deeper trouble. I charged it twice through my laptop. I am not sure if this the cause. Kindly help me. Thanks.

Solution: what you should do first in this case is to check if an app you downloaded is causing this issue. To do this just start the phone in Safe Mode. When your phone operates in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run.  If the issue doesn’t occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue still occurs in Safe Mode then do the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This deletes the temporary system data which could be causing this problem.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked as this could be caused by a faulty display assembly.

S5 Screen Flickers Flashing Green When In Power Saving Mode

Problem: Hello. So I tried doing the soft reset, turning my phone completely off for several hours, and I manually turn off apps I don’t need running all the time. Yet my problem still persists. Whenever I go into power save mode, nowadays the screen immediately starts flickering and flashing green. Y’know that static-y rolling line thing like in the Five Nights at Freddy’s title screen? I caught that happening too. I have run multiple diagnostics and virus scans too. Is there possibly another option other than a factory reset? Because I really don’t want to lose my data and contacts and info. Thank you!

Solution: You could try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This will erase the temporary system data which could be causing this problem. If this fails then you should consider doing a factory reset. If you do perform a factory reset and the issue still remains then this could already be a hardware issue in which case you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Flickers Stays Black

Problem: Hello, Just recently my screen has been flickering ever so slightly, even more so when it’s about to lock itself and dims down. Now sometimes my screen won’t respond when I press the power or home buttons. It just stays black. The touch buttons next to the home button light up as normal and the LED light indicating that I have a notification/message still works but the screen won’t turn on. I have tried doing the soft reset and this will work for about a day and then it goes back to the black screen. Any idea what this could be? Thanks in advance!

Solution: Since you are experiencing a screen flickering and black screen issue I would recommend you first check if some form of corrupt data is causing the problem. To do this you have to wipe the cache partition of your phone first from the recovery mode. What this does is it deletes the temporary system data. Restart your phone then check if both issues still occurs. If they do then proceed with doing a factory reset. Take note that you need to backup your phone data first before doing the reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then this could be caused by a faulty display assembly or display controller. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Completely Black But Notification Working

Problem: The front of the phone took a hit and there are little cracks that look like they are under the glass and the screen has gone completely black. No flickering, just black but the phone still works, gets messages, etc. Would like to replace something just to get working to sink it to my new phone to get all my info, etc. What can I do/replace? Thank you!

Solution: For this particular issue you will need to have the display assembly replaced in order for you to access your phone data.

S5 Black Screen After Phone Got Dropped

Problem: Galaxy s5 phone had screen protector which worked when daughter dropped phone. But I have now got a black screen and it’s powering on because it’s lighting up. Tried all help with pressing power on and replacing battery. Tried using power on and volume up and middle button but can’t get phone to reboot. Can you help with anything else

Solution: Try starting the phone in recovery mode. If the screen works in this mode then you should consider doing a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data. If the screen doesn’t work in this mode then the problem could be caused by a damaged display assembly or a loose connection between the display assembly and the board. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Is Black

Problem: Compliments. Woke up this morning to A black screen. Put off by pulling battery and rebooted but same black screen. I can hear messages drop in and calls come in but all there is is the black screen so can’t do anything. Pls any solution I can handle? It’s never happened before. Regards

Solution: Do the same troubleshooting steps as the one we have suggested above. Start the phone in recovery mode then check if the display works in this mode. If it does then you should do a factory reset. This will however erase your phone data. If the issue still occurs even in recovery mode then this could already be a hardware related issue in which case you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Not turning On After Drop

Problem: My friend threw my phone in the summer and the led worked ad it buzzed but the screen was blank.I took it to the shop and they gave me an all new screen, but the problem was whenever it was dropped from a very short distance ( ex. My hand slightly above a desk ) it would restart. Now the problem today is it has fallen off my bed on the floor and it won’t turn on.It seems completely dead.No led no buzz, nothing.Ive tried to soft rest, hard reset, got it a little bit, hold for some seconds and let go,charge, decharge and nothing is working.I have very important and personal things on here and I really need help ASAP PLEASE

Solution: It looks like there is some loose connection inside your phone. This might have occurred when your screen was replaced. The best way to deal with this is to bring your phone back to the shop and have it checked.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Incompatible Charger Issue & Other Related Problems

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 is one of the previous flagship models of the South Korean giant that is still quite popular today despite being released way back in 2014. If you own this particular model then you know that it performs quite well and is dependable as a daily driver. There are however instances when you might have issues with this phone. One such issue which we will tackle today is the Galaxy S5 incompatible charger issue & other related problems. We have been receiving several problems of this nature from our readers which is why we would like to address them below.

S5 Incompatible Charger

Problem: 3 days ago my phone charged perfect with the charger and then 2 days ago every time i would plug the charger in it would say ” The connected charger is incompatible with this phone. To prevent damage to your phone, charging has been stopped. to continue charging, use the original charger and cable that were provided with this phone” and then it has a red X on the battery at the top. well, i bought a battery charger and an extra battery which is what i have been using so i can still use my phone but now it will pop up and show me that message again randomly. My phone was just sitting there when it did it the first time and it has done it a few different times with nothing plugged in. please help! Thanks in advance

Solution: You will usually get this error message whenever a third party charger is used to charge the phone and doesn’t provide the necessary power rating to the phone. Samsung created this safety feature so that the phone does not get damaged by chargers that provide too much or too little current to the battery.

There are however instances when this error message can also happen despite using the original charger of the phone. If this is what’s happening right now in your case then you should do the following troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step if the current step fails to resolve the problem.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air, by blowing to it using a straw, or by using a cotton bud dipped in alcohol. This action takes out any dirt or debris that may be present in the port which could be causing this problem.
  • Replace the charging cord. This cord gets easily damaged especially if it is constantly coiled or bent.
  • Use a different Samsung wall charger.
  • Replace your battery.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the issue still occurs after following the above steps then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked as this could already be a hardware related problem.

S5 Battery Does Not Last Long

Problem: Hello I have purchased a new s5 for my girlfriend on  for the Walmart straight talk plan. Recently she has had issues charging the phone and the battery does not keep a charge for long. She has factory reset and a lot of other suggested fixes. This happened after she was prompted to install Samsung power share app. But she has factory reset since then with same no charging issue.

Solution: If the phone has already been factory reset yet the problem still persists then other factors aside from the phone software could be causing the problem. Try to perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below to fix this problem. Move to the next step if the issue still occurs.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone. Sometimes dirt or debris present in the port can cause charging issues. To clean this port use a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.
  • Replace the charger and charging cord.
  • Replace the phone battery.

S5 Not Working After Being Charged

Problem: My battery power was down to 6% so I plugged it in to charge. I received a text message so I went to read it but when I touched it I had a static shock and the phone haven’t worked since. Just the green power or charge light is on. The phone won’t do anything

Solution: If you got a static shock while charging the phone then this could already be a hardware related problem. Start the troubleshooting by taking out the phone battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then try to turn on the phone. If it doesn’t turn on then charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a different charger and charging cord. Once the 20 minutes is up try to start your phone. If it doesn’t turn on then check if you can start your phone in recovery mode. If you are able to start your phone this way then I suggest you do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete the data stored in your phone so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding with this step. One last troubleshooting step that you should do is to replace the phone battery.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Restarts Constantly

Problem: I’ll be using my phone, weather it be taking a photo or video, or just on Facebook or internet, and my phone will restart over and over and over again. I’ve tried hard resets, taking the battery out or 30 seconds, taking battery out for 2 mins, nothing works! When I replace the battery it just keeps doing it. The only way I can use my phone is if it is plugged into the wall using the full, large, combo, charger that the phone comes with. it don’t work if I use just the mini USB to try to charge it. It just started happening 3 days ago and I haven’t installed any new apps on my phone, and the first time it happened I was using the video recording option. I’m very tempted to go AT&T and have them replace my phone but it’s not even a year old.  Never had any kind of damage. And always been in a case. Please help! It’s like I have a corded landline phone again! Lol.

Solution: Since you already performed a factory reset then the problem could be caused by a component inside your phone that is failing which is most most likley the power IC. You can bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked or you can bring it to AT&T and claim the warranty if it still applies.

S5 Not Charging When Data Turned On

Problem: Hello. A couple of days ago i went on a website that i normally use. But on this particular day i went into this same website and got a pop up saying that my battery was damaged by a virus and shortly after that i noticed a significant change in the way my phone charges. Now my phone won’t charge at all with data turned on it will even decrease in percentage while hooked to charger. When data us off it charges but at a very slow rate. Can someone please help me.

Solution: Did you click on the pop-up link? If you did then you may have introduced a malware in your phone which could be causing this problem. What I suggest you do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done try to check if your phone now charges normally. If the issue still occurs then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol
  • Use a different charger and charging cord when charging your phone.
  • Replace your phone battery with  new one.

S5 Not Turning On After Drop

Problem: Tech guy, I got a galaxy S5 mini in January of this year and have dropped it a few times, still works great minus the few dents around the edge.  Earlier in school the battery was around 40% and in class it fell out of my pocket to the floor, I put it straight back into my pocket without checking it. On my way home I took it out and nothing would come up on the screen, so I tried taking the battery in and out numerous times and holding the power button, tried putting it into recovery mode and nothing happened. When I got home I left in on charge for a good 2 hours and each time I held the power button down to turn it on the LED light flashed purple and blue but the screen was still black where it should be lit up saying “Samsung” etc it even made the sound but the screen was black, I’ve tried everything and now the LED isn’t even going on anymore. What should I do? Regards

Solution: It looks like you already performed all of the troubleshooting steps that could be done for this type of problem. Does your phone have a microSD card installed? If it does you can try to take it out then check if the issue still occurs. If it does the drop may have caused an internal component inside the phone to fail. I suggest you bring the phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

One of the older generation flagship models that’s still getting support these days is the #Samsung #Galaxy #S5. Released in 2014 with high end specs,  this device is still able to smoothly run any app available at the Google Play Store without any issues. Those who are using this model are quite pleased with its performance and reliability. Although this is one of the dependable models out in the market there are instances when issues can occur on the device. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 does not switch on if not connected to charger issue & other related problems.

S5 Does Not Switch On If Not Connected To Charger

Problem: It does not switch on if it is not connected with the charger. Once i put it on charger it switches on and works normally. When i take it off it shuts down.  However sometimes when it is not on charger it works normally unless i open camera or any other specific application like snapchat or facebook messenger.  I do not know what to do.  Is it a battery problem? or is it a hardware issue? your quick reply will be appreciated.

Related Problem: My samsung galaxy s5 only works when it’s charging it then I unplug it and it turns off and then I hold the power button and it turns on and off and only showing the samsung galaxy s5 powered by android screen and also vibrates is their any way that that my phone can be fixed

Solution: One of the main causes of this type of issue is a faulty battery that does not hold sufficient charge anymore. This is usually the case if the battery has already undergone several hundred charge cycles. Try replacing the battery with a new one then check if the issue still occurs.

If the problem still persist despite using  new battery then the next thing to do is to verify if a glitch in the phone software is causing the problem. For this you will have to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the issue then this might already be caused by a component inside the phone that’s damaged. If this is the case then I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Is Off

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S5.  The screen is dark, but phone will power on and off.  Phone vibrates, gives notifications, and when I can pick out the numbers even though the screen is black, I can actually make a call, so touch is working. Removed battery for 30 min and replaced. No change.  Power on and off – no change.  Three button reset – phone vibrates, but does not come on.  Every now and then a small dot of white will flicker on and off on the screen. Haven’t dropped or otherwise harmed the phone.  Took it out of my pocket, found it was on, powered it off, and the screen hasn’t come back on since. Phone was purchased 6 months ago.

Solution: It’s very likely that this problem is caused by a damaged display or a loose connection between the display and the phone’s motherboard. Try restarting your phone in recovery mode. If the screen works in this mode then the issue might be caused by a software glitch. If this is the case then you should perform a factory reset from here. Take note that this deletes your phone data. If the screen still does not turn on even in recovery mode then you need to bring your phone to a service center and have the display checked. Worst case scenario is that you will need to have this display replaced.

S5 Screen Shuts Off

Problem: I was texting my cousin and all of a sudden my Samsung Galaxy s5 screen shut off. It wont turn back on and I have removed the battery and done everything. The lights turn on and the sound is still on when I get notifications but it won’t work. Even when I restart the phone, I can hear it restarting but the screen just stays black. What should I do?

Solution: This is a similar issue to the one we addressed above. If you can hear the notification sounds but the screen does not turn on then it’s possible that the display is damaged. To troubleshoot this try checking if the issue is caused by a glitch in the phone software by starting the phone in recovery mode. If the screen works in this mode I recommend that you do a factory reset. Make sure to have a backup copy of your data before doing this. If the screen doesn’t work even in recovery mode then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Only Charges With Wall Charger

Problem: The device charges via the original Samsung cable and wall plug but when I try and charge it from the car it does not work. The car charger port is fine and I have tried this with a cigarette lighter socket and cable in my bmw to which it use to work ok and just the cable onto the USB port on a new fiesta. On the bmw I don’t get anything, on the fiesta it would make the charging sound and then the same sound again as if the power source has been disconnected, it would do this constantly. The charging port and charging socket are free from dirt. I think it is likely to be a possible issue with the latest update I am on 6.0.1 Any help would be great.

Solution: There’s a possibility that one of the pins ( the one that’s assigned for low voltage charging) of your charging port is damaged. You should however check if the update is causing this issue by backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset. Once the reset is complete try to check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you might need to have the charging port assembly of your phone replaced. Have this checked at a service center.

S5 Not Turning On After Drop

Problem: Hello, I have a Galaxy S5 that had its display and touchscreen recently changed. Although I put a screen cover for protection and a rubber cover, I dropped it today and it immediately shut down. When I tried to turn it on again I had no response. It charges and it’s showing me 64%, so the display is working, but no response from the power button. I tried to drain the device by holding the power button pressed without the battery but no effect. It has been through service recently due to the replacement of the touchscreen. Has a circuit of the power button been unsoldered or ruptured? Do you have any idea or advice? Please help with some information. Thank you.

Solution: It looks like the connection between the power button and the phone’s motherboard might have become loose. I recommend you bring this back to the service center and have it checked.

S5 Intermittent Charging

Problem: my s5…..whether it is plugged in and charging or not……alternates between showing that it is charging, and showing that it is not charging. When i have it plugged in……For about 8 seconds it will show it is not charging, and then for 8 seconds it will show that it is charging When not plugged in…..For about 8 seconds it will show it is not charging…the screen will start to go to sleep, and just before it does, it , will show that it is charging. I have taken battery out. I have tried multiple chargers. I have tried to make sure the charging port is clean and free of dust/debris.

Solution: The following troubleshooting steps listed below are what you need to do to address this intermittent charging issue.

  • Make sure that the charging port is free from dirt or debris. Clean this port using a can of compressed air or by blowing into it using a straw.
  • Try using a different charging cord
  • Try using a wall charger
  • Try charging your phone using on your computer USB port. If it charger without any problem then you have to bring the phone to a service center and have the port checked as it only allows low voltage charging.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the issue then bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Not Turning On After Drop

Problem: I recently dropped my phone a small distance , about 1 foot. When I turned it on, it had a static screen like a TV. I read forums on how to fix this, and the static screen was gone but now I had a black screen but everything on my phone was still working. I could still unlock my phone but the screen was just dark. I tried to blindly turn up the brightness but that wasn’t it. I then tried to remove the battery and put it back in, but that just returned my screen to static. What should I do?

Solution: It looks like the display might have been damaged by the drop or its connection to the motherboard has become loose. Try restarting your phone in recovery mode and check if the display works in this mode. If it does then the issue might be caused by a software glitch. You will then need to do a factory reset from here. Take note that this erases your phone data. If the screen doesn’t work even in recovery mode then I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Not Turning On After Getting Wet

Problem: I dropped my phone in the toilet accidentally and I put it in dry rice. it wasn’t charging at all but after the rice it had charged for one night and now it won’t charge anymore. It’s completely dry and I have used 3 different charging cables. Nothing looks like it is stuck up there. Think you know what the problem is besides me dropping it in the toilet?

Solution: Try replacing the battery with a new one as the battery you have right now might be water damaged. If the issue still remains even with a new battery installed then it’s possible that water might have damaged some component inside the phone. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center that does board level repairs and have it checked.

S5 Gets Extremely Hot When Charging

Problem: Hi! I just got a new galaxy this spring so it is only a few months old and i haven’t had any major drops and no water damage. I was watching youtube videos when my phone screen went black. It is no longer responding to any buttons or to being charged (lighting up, etc.). I left it on the charger to see if it was a battery issue and the phone got extremely hot, painful to touch. Any help is appreciated, I just don’t want to lose my pictures.

Solution: If the phone gets hot when charging then there’s a shorted circuit somewhere. Listed below are the recommended troubleshooting steps for this issue.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that it doesn’t have any dirt or debris.
  • Try using a different charging cord.
  • Try using a different wall charger.
  • Replace your phone battery.

If the above steps don’t fix the issue I recommend you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
