Fixing The Samsung Galaxy S5 Not Recognizing microSD Card Issue

One way to expand the storage of an Android device is by using a microSD card. Owners of the #Samsung Galaxy #S5 for example can move their personal data such as music, movies, photos, and documents to the microSD to make more space on their phone’s internal storage for stuff that matters most ( such as gaming apps). The camera of the phone can also be set to automatically save photos and videos to the microSD card thus saving some internal storage space.

S5 Not Recognizing microSD Card

Problem: When I insert my micro SD card and go into my storage on my settings it doesn’t even show that I have a SD card in.

Solution: Make sure that the card is inserted properly in your phone. Take the card out and insert it again. Pay attention to the orientation of the microSD card when inserting it. Push the card  into the card slot until you feel a resistance.

If the microSD card still does not show on your phone then try restarting your device.

You should also verify if the microSD card is indeed working by inserting it in another phone or having a computer read it.

Once you have verified that the microSD card is working then insert it back to your phone.

Check if this issue is caused by a glitch in your phone software by backing up your phone data ( use Kies to do this) and doing a factory reset.

If after the factory reset the problem still persists then bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Not Reading microSD Card

Problem: Woke up today to some apps not available.  Checking SD card for errors.  Preprint SD card, no response.  Restarted with it in and out, power down completely with it in and out, won’t read SD card; won’t power up past red Verizon screen with it in.  No water damage, didn’t drop phone, didn’t overheat overnight.

Solution: Since your phone does not boot up completely with the microSD card inserted then the card may already be faulty. Try inserting this card in another phone or have your computer read it. If it is possible to retrieve the data stored in the microSD card then do it. You can do this using your computer by copying the files that you want to back up and saving them in your computer.

To resolve this issue I suggest you get a new microSD card.

S5 Photos Missing From microSD Card

Problem: I’ve lost photos stored on sd card. Photos can be made and stored but then a grey card like creeps up from bottom of photo and destroys them. This is happening on an S5 that was replaced  by Verizon for the very same reason.  I’ve changed sd cards from Sandisk to samsung 64GB  for all three card replacements. It’s maddening.

Solution: Since this issue occurs despite replacing the device and using three different microSD card then it may be caused by an app installed in your phone. You should conduct an experiment for a couple of days and see if this is the case. Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Do not install any apps on your phone. Use your phone as you normally would and take photos with it. Check if the photos still gets corrupted. If it doesn’t get corrupted then the problem is most likely caused by a third party app. To find out what app is causing the problem install your usual apps one at a time in your phone. After each app installation check your photos. Once the photos get corrupted after installing a particular app then that app is causing the problem.

S5 Not Transferring Data To microSD

Problem: I have a microSD card and my phone reads it, but don’t transfer anything to it and won’t let me transfer anything to it. What the heck? How come I can’t send anything to my SD card?

Solution: If you have any personal data stored in the microSD card then make a backup copy of it first. You can use a computer to help you backup your data. To resolve this issue try to format the microSD card using your phone then check if you can transfer data to it.

Samsung Galaxy S5 microSD Card Is Not Accessible Issue & Other Related Problems

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 is being offered in 16GB and 32GB configurations. For most people this storage space is enough for their apps and other data. Other owners however will find this space quite limiting especially if they have lots of gaming apps, videos, music, and photos stored in the phone. The good news is that you can easily increase the storage space of this phone simply by adding a microSD card. The bad news is that sometimes this can cause issues on the phone. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 microSD card is not accessible issue & other related problems.

S5 microSD Card Is Not Accessible

Problem: I just replaced the SD Card looking for more storage for my S5. I loaded a 10 Class 64GB card. First it was not recognized. Then I formatted it using the phone. Then started working but after a while the files on the card are not accesibles. Once I restart the phone the card is accessible again for a while. Can you help me to solve this? Thanks

Solution: It looks like the problem could be software related.

Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below to fix this issue. Move to the next step if the current step that you did fails to resolve the problem.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This will delete the temporary data of the device which if corrupt has been known to cause this sort of issue.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. Check if the files are accessible in this mode. If you don’t experience any issues with the microSD card while the phone is in this mode then it’s possible that a third party app installed in your phone is causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset
  • Take out the microSD card and have your computer read it. If the files become inaccessible even when using the computer then you could be looking at a faulty microSD card. Try getting a new card.

If the problem still persists despite doing the above steps then I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center.

S5 Not Reading microSD Card

Problem: Last July I ordered a 32gb samsung sd card from amazon. It was sold by Amazon themselves. I received it, put it in and it worked great. I put apps and anything wise I could transfer, no pictures or videos,I have those backed up through Google. I’ve read about issues with the recent android update but I think my issues stayed before then. Anyways, one day I went to access my sd card and it gave me a slew of error and other messages back to back for about 5 minutes. Ready to mount sd card, checking for errors, sd card ready to be Uninstalled, format sd card. All of those came within a second of each other and disappeared just as fast. And since then my phone won’t read my sd card, it just shows the checking for errors message the status bar and it won’t go away until I restart my phone and take out my card. I’m hoping it’s not the phone itself because this is the best phone I’ve had to date. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Solution: In this kind of issue you should take out the microSD card and have your computer read it. You will need a card reader to do this procedure. Once the computer detects the card try to open some of the folders in the card. Do this a couple of times. Check if you experience any issues when doing this such as files or folders becoming inaccessible or the card itself can’t be read by the computer. If these issues occur then the microSD card may be corrupt and should be replaced. If none of the issues exist then the next step is to troubleshoot the phone. Reinsert the microSD card back to your phone then perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone. Sometimes corrupt temporary data in the device can cause this kind of problem. By deleting the temporary data in the phone you will be able to check if this is what’s causing the problem.
  • Start your phone in Safe Mode. Check if the issue still occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by a third party app installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Update your phone software. Check if there are any new software updates then update your phone if necessary.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 microSD Card Information Keeps Getting Deleted

Problem: I have a 128gb (Microsd 128Gb High Speed with Adaptor up to 48mb/s) external memory card in the phone and for some reason the information on the card keeps getting wiped off. What’s causing that? I await your response.

Solution: To check on what factor is causing this you will need to perform a series of troubleshooting steps which we have listed below. Move to the next step if the issue remains unresolved.

  • Take out the microSD card and let your computer read it ( you will need a microSD card to do this). Copy some data to the card then check if it gets wiped off. You will have to take some time to observe this. If the data does not disappears then you need to get a new microSD card. If the data does not get deleted then the problem could be caused by the phone.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode then reinsert the microSD card. Check if the issue still occurs.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. Check if your data disappears in this mode. If it doesn’t then  an app could be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
  • Replace your microSd card

S5 Insufficient Storage Error

Problem: My phone has been telling me that I first have insufficient storage and now it’s damaged 3 brand new 8gb SD cards that I used in it. Now I have gone thru and removed everything that can be removed all apps and crap safely removed my sd card and cleared out all cache data from the entire phone and within 20-25 mins the entire phone will have insufficient storage again??? Please help me, I’m about to take the phone out back and use it for target practice with my new ruffles.

Solution: In this case the best thing to do is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if you are getting the insufficient storage error message. If you are then this could be caused by a corrupt software. To fix this you need to flash the stock firmware to your phone. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online. If however the error message does not appear then you can proceed installing your apps.

Regarding the issue of your phone damaging microSD cards you should try to insert a new one again now that the phone has been reset. If the card still gets damaged then you will need to bring your phone to an authorized service center as this could already be caused by a hardware problem.

S5 Not Detecting microSD Card

Problem: I have a memory card inserted. When I go to Settings > Storage, it shows 16GB of device memory but no SD card memory. At bottom it says Mount SD card Insert SD card, but the card is already in. I’ve tried removing and reinserting card to see if reseating would help, but no change. Suggestions?

Solution: Try to check if the microSD card is indeed working by having your computer read it. If the computer can’t detect the card then you need to get a new one. If however the card can be detected then I suggest you try to troubleshoot the phone software first. To do this you need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done reinsert the microSD card then check if it can be read. If it still can’t be read then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. There could be a problem with the microSD card slot of your device.

Troubleshooting Samsung Galaxy S5 Not Reading microSD Card Issue

One advantage Android smartphones have over the iPhone is that owners can easily upgrade the phone storage with the use of a microSD card. So for instance if you buy a #Samsung #GalaxyS5 with an internal storage capacity of 16GB you can add a microSD card of up to 128GB capacity to increase the storage further. Ideally, you won’t encounter any problems with this however there are instances when issues do occur. One issue that we have been constantly receiving is the #S5 not reading microSD card issue which is what we will be covering in this latest installment of our troubleshooting series.

S5 Not Reading microSD Card

Problem: Connected phone to windows 8 laptop to transfer files to SD Card. First it attempted to do it, then stopped. Then SD card was not showing up on laptop, only phone memory. So I attempted again. No luck. I unmounted SD card from phone safely. Put it in a card reader into the laptop and still won’t pick up the SD card. Now my phone is telling me files are unreadable and to format the card. I have so many files on my card that I cannot get back. Is there anyway or something I can do to get it working again without losing my SD data. I have no idea what happened. I have had the card less than a year. It’s 32GB Sandisk and I have never had a problem with it. It’s just today that something has gone wrong. If you have any ideas that would be great. Many thanks

Solution: It looks like the microSD card may have developed some bad sectors which caused this data corruption. Since your phone and computer can’t read the card then it’s safe to say that the card is already faulty. Recovering the data stored in a damaged card is a hit or miss process. You may need to connect the card using a card reader to your computer then start the recovery process by using a data recovery software. There are various software available to choose from some of them are free while most of them require payment. While I can’t say which one is the best to use you should start by using Recuva then switch to another file recovery software if your data can’t be recovered.

S5 Lines On Photos Stored In  microSD

Problem: I just bought a 64gig SD card on the photos that go to It from the camera I have a grey line in to some of the pictures. And also when u open some apps messaging Internet or whatever it’ll redirect to the app store how could I fix these problems?

Solution: If the photos stored in your microSD card have lines in them then they may be corrupted. You can verify this further by taking out the card and having your computer read it. You may need to use a microSD card adapter or a card reader to perform this procedure. Using the file explorer in your computer navigate to the microSD card folder where your photos are stored then open your photos. If the lines appear then they are already corrupt. You should save the photos that are not corrupt in your computer so you have a backup copy. If the photos don’t have any lines in them then the issue may be caused by your phone software.

Try wiping the cache partition of your phone first then reinsert the microSD card back to your phone. Check your photos. If the problem still persists then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

Regarding the app store opening on its own when you open apps this problem will also be resolved by a factory reset.

S5 microSD Card Not Allowing Data To Be Written

Problem: Hello I was just reading your solutions to micro sd problems, and I wanted to email you about mine because it’s very weird. I recently just copied the pictures from my micro sd onto my computer using an sd adapter and formatted the micro sd on a different phone because on my computer I wasn’t able to delete any files and on my phone it wouldn’t delete. Every time I put it in and tried formatting it wouldn’t format and the pictures and files would still be there, so after I formatted the micro sd in another phone I put it back in my phone and the available space was present, but now I try to make a new folder, move pictures to it, and try using it as my storage for the camera and it just won’t allow it, I have no idea what I could do. Theres no issue with the micro sd being present. I need help

Solution: Try formating the card in your phone. If the card can be formatted then open your camera app and change the setting for the photo storage from internal storage to the microSD card. Take a couple of photos then check if the photos are stored in the microSD card. If they are stored in the microSD then the problem has been resolved. If however the photos end up being corrupt then the microSD card you are using may already be faulty. I suggest you replace this with a new one.
