S5 Cannot Update To Marshmallow

Problem: at&t galaxy s5  android 5.0. about 2 yrs old. cannot update firmware to 6.0. read all suggested fixes and tried them. kies3 did not work, samsung guy at local best buy said he cannot help. willing to try factory reset if that would work, or any other start over technique. have not tried removing all apps to get to 7 gb of empty storage  (have 29 gb storage on external card if that would help) except that reports indicate that even clearing out virtually all memory may still not work. have everything backed up in hopes that there is a new magic elixir!!!!

Solution: There are several conditions that your phone must met in order for it to get the software update which we have listed below.

  • If the phone was previously locked to a particular network and it was unlocked then it needs to be running on its original network to get the update.
  • The phone must not be rooted.
  • The phone must not be running on a custom software.

If your phone meets the conditions listed above and it is still not getting the update then your option is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete manually check for the update.

If the phone still not update then your last option is to flash the updated firmware file to your phone. You can download the file at the Sammobile website where you can also get the instructions on how to flash your phone.

S5 Unfortunately Phone Has Stopped Working Error

Problem: My wife’s Galaxy S5 (running Android 6.0.1) will pop up “Unfortunately phone has stopped working” when she receives a call while in “any” app. I have rebooted into safe mode and it does the same. I followed your T/S guide and cleared the Cache/Partition info and also the dialer cache. It still does the same. It also will report “Unfortunately the System UI has stopped working” anytime you try a screenshot. Is there anything else I can try before I reset to factory defaults? Thank You!

Solution: Since you have already tried checking if the issue occurs in Safe Mode ( and it does) as well as wiped the cache partition of the phone then the best thing that you can do right now is to do a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

S5 No Network Connection Error When Trying To Download Software Update

Problem: My S5 had notified me about a new update but whenever I press download, it says that I have no network connection (I’m connected to our wifi). What should I do?

Solution: It’s very likely that this is a connection related issue. Try restarting your modem/router then check if you are now able to download the update. If the problem persists then try downloading the update when your phone is connected to a different Wi-Fi network.

If you are still getting the same problem even if the phone is connected to a different Wi-Fi network then try to do the update by following the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Try updating your phone using Kies.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Manually check for the update first.

S5 Software Update Is Temporarily Unavailable

Problem: I have a Samsung galaxy s5 originally verizon network, but is now straight talk (at&t) network. When I try to update my software it gives the message “software update is temporarily unavailable.” I read where the phone has to be activated to reach verizon servers, in which I assume has to he a Verizon Sim instead of at&t. How can I update my phone without a computer?

Solution: Since this is originally a Verizon phone then it must be running on the Verizon network in order for it to get the update. If you are unable to get a Verizon 4G SIM in your phone then your other option is to try to use Kies to update your device.

If using Kies fails to update your phone then you should consider manually flashing the update to your device. You can download the firmware file of your phone at the Sammobile website. Instructions on how to flash your phone are also available in that website.

S5 Software Update Available No Available Space To Download Issue

Problem: My phone has popped up with notifications over the last couple of months/year saying that there is a software update. I never have enough space so I finally deleted a bunch of pictures and apps until I had over 8  GB that it said I needed. Now I go into the check for updates screen and it says current software is up to date and I cannot check again for 23 hours. I still have the notification bar at the top of my screen that says AT&T Software Update Available- no available space to download. And I still have Lollipop

Solution: It’s very likely that your phone does not have enough internal storage space to download and install the update. Try freeing up more space in your phone by moving photos, videos, and other personal files to the microSD card. You should also uninstall apps that you don’t regularly use or apps that are using up too much space. If you already have more than 7 GB of internal storage space free and you aren’t able to download the update because it is letting you check for it again in 23 hours then one temporary fix to this is to go to your time and date settings then manually advance it to 24 hours.

S5 Not Getting Software Update

Problem: hey brother. i need some serious help here. I have a samsung S5 which i don’t know whether it’s a G900f as the phone info says or G900A as the bootloader and baseband version say. well, my phone info says iT’s a G900f and has a G900f baseband. i installed an app called phone info from play store and it says that it has a G900A baseband and bootloader, an AT&T fingerprint build and AT&T CsC. as well as it says that my device type is Klteatt. and its hardware revision is G900A.00 now, it’s running Kitkat 4.4.2 and my actual build number is G900f FZHU1AND1 here are some other additional info about the version Ap:G900fZHU1AND1 Cp:G900fZHU1AND1 CsC:G900fZHU1AND1 i can’t get any OTA update , because The AT&T software update says my phone is up-to date. i’ve just bought this phone from a retailer , used indeed. I’m afraid my phone is a Modified G900A which was unlocked to use my Maroc telecom SIM card. could you possibly help me know how to deal with this mixed up phone and get it updated without getting it locked to AT&T again. if i’s a G900f how can i update it to marshmallow if a have a locked AT&T bootloader and baseband? waiting to hearing from you soon. best regards.

Solution: The best way to deal with this issue is to manually flash the updated firmware file to your phone. If the phone is unlocked then generally it will not lose its unlocked status. You can get the firmware file of your phone from the Sammobile website.

If you are unable to flash the phone firmware due to the bootloader being locked then refer to the various online tutorials on how to unlock the bootloader of your phone.

S5 Keeps On Lagging Even After Factory Reset

Problem: Thank you. My phone is a Samsung S5 2 years old. Running Waze it would often reboot. Even sometime watching a video would reboot. Slowed down a lot. So I did a factory reset. Got all my apps sort of working..but now it seems to lag for 5 to 15 seconds on anything I do. Like type whatsapp and keyboard wont come up for 15 seconds. Scroll messages..delays for 15 seconds then scrolls then freezes. Thanks for suggestions. Btw I did a soft reset but no change

Solution: Do you have a microSD card installed in your phone? If you do then this could be causing the problem. Try removing the card first then check if the issue still occurs.

If the problem persists then you should consider manually flashing your phone with its updated firmware file as the lag issue could be caused by a corrupt phone software.

S5 Reboots During Call After Marshmallow Update

Problem: After the recent update to Marshmallow 6.0.1, the device reboots during the active call. I noticed two times. Once I just received phone bell and before I listen the bell, the device rebooted. Second time, I was in a call and device rebooted before I finish and disconnect the call. I am currently in Saudi Arabia and my device model is Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F.

Solution: For this type of issue you need to check first if an app installed in your phone is causing this problem. To do this start the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone is running in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. Try to check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then I highly recommend that you do a factory reset. This reset is usually performed for issues  that occur on a device after a software update since it effectively removes any old system software data that usually causes problems with the new software version.

S5 Stuck In Boot Screen After Rooting

Problem: Hi, My S5 active is stuck on the booting screen with the blue notification light on. I had tried to root it earlier, got it to work, updated, and broke it. After a factory reset the phone worked. Then I had tried to root it again with the same software, it didn’t work, and I factory reset it again, except this time is just gets stuck on the loading screen. Please help me. Thanks in advance

Solution: To fix this problem you should connect the phone to a charger and let it charge for 20 minutes before turning it on completely . If it doesn’t turn on then try turning on the phone in recovery mode. From here attempt to do a factory reset. Take note that this will erase any data that you have stored in your phone.

If the issue still remains unresolved then you should try flashing your phone with its updated firmware file. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several popular Android forums online.

S5 Not Responding After Marshmallow Update

Problem: After updating to marshmallow I noticed that if I use the power button to shut off screen and then attempt to reactivate with power button, the screen is black and it will not respond. One time I placed it on the charger and it sprang back to life. Another time plugging in charger caused a reboot. Prior to marshmallow I never had an issue with the phone.

Solution:  It’s possible that some form of old system software data that got left behind during the update process is causing this problem. This old data usually causes a conflict with the new software. The best way to deal with this is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Numerous Issues After Marshmallow Update

Problem: Ever since Android 6.x was downloaded to my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 phone numerous issues have made my phone almost useless. Here’s the list of issues: Battery life reduced by 50-60%, microphone stopped working – but speakerphone works after 12-15 sec delay, programs had varies operational issues, WiFi goes on/off at will, camera stopped working, and other problems have left my phone in a restart loop. Here’s what I’ve done: Closed programs after use except for email and messages, removed battery for 5 min every morning after charging, cleared cache numerous times, finally performed factory reset. Currently, my phone is in a restart loop and I haven’t been able to the get back to System Recovery using your instructions – even with battery removal. No combination of buttons produce a System Recovery menu – just the blue System Recovery at the top left of the screen, but the menu never displays and the phone reboots into loop. I love this phone, but I’m ready to trashcan it and choke on the price of a new phone.

Solution: After every major software update there are usually some issues that can be experienced. In this case there are several problems that are going on and even a factory reset doesn’t seem to fix this problem.

Here’s what you need to do. Try connecting your phone to a charger first then leave it charging for at least 20 minutes. Check if you still experience any of the issues. If they don’t occur then the issue could be caused by a faulty battery. Try replacing this with a new one.

If the issue still occurs even with a charger connected then you should consider manually flashing the previous software version to your device to verify if it is the update that’s causing this problem. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Not Getting Software Update

Problem: I have an AT&T Galaxy S5 running on 4.4.4 KitKat. It’s unlocked, and I have a Metro Pcs chip and service. I’ve seen that Lollipop is available, and so is 6.0 Marshmallow, on both T-Mobile and AT&T. My phone is not rooted. I want the OTA update, but I can’t get it. I’ve tried Samsung Kies on my PC and it said it was up to date. I know it isn’t, what can I do?

Related Problem: I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 that was retired from service.  I am currently running it as a stand-alone WiFi device for picture taking and games.  It is running Android 4.4.2.  I know that those devices are up to at least a 6.something now, since my Verizon one has 6.0.1 on it.  However, when I click on Software Update, it gives me the message of “Current software is up to date.”  Do you know of a way I can force it to download the latest OS?  The device has been freshly wiped so there is plenty of storage for upgrades.

Solution: The reason why the phone can’t get any new updates is because the phone is not able to access the AT&T update servers. If you can get an AT&T SIM card and insert it in your phone then there’s a big possibility that you will now be able to get the update since you will be able to access the update servers.

S5 Same Update Keeps On Appearing

Problem: Hi there, It prompt me to download the last update, it downloads and programmed for the update. Start the installation until the phone restarts. After a while if It”s connected to internet it finds automatic possible update to be installed. But unfortunately it’s the same file continuing the same process all the time. It seems that this update OTA is not possible to be updated. Can I deleted? shall I make hard reset?

Solution: There’s a possibility that a glitch in the phone software is causing this issue. I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset to fix this issue.

S5 Freezing After Marshmallow Update

Problem: Hi there. I’ve been having a world of problems ever since AT&T pushed the Marshmallow update to my Galaxy S5 a few weeks ago. My phone is constantly freezing up and self-resetting. I’ve moved all possible apps to my SD card, cleaned out my caches, and removed the Facebook app (I thought getting rid of the mega-app might help) but none of that solved anything. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Solution: There might be some old software data left behind in your phone causing a conflict with the new software version. This will usually cause the phone to freeze or reboot. I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any app yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If you are still having a problem then you should try removing the microSD card as this might be the culprit.

S5 Not Getting Software Update

Problem: Carrier: Verizon Original Carrier: Verizon Unlocked? No Model: Galaxy S5 Android Version: 5.0 I did not even know there was a 6.0 version until I saw the release for the 7.0 version! My phone has never even hinted at needing an update, which I admit I was relying on. I manually checked for an update and it simply says that the update is temporarily unavailable. Any idea how I can update my phone? It is going on 2 years old.

Solution: If you are unable to update the phone using the OTA method then try using Kies to update your device. Connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies installed and running then use the software to update your device. If no update is found then you should consider doing a factory reset then repeating the procedure. Take note that the reset will delete your data so make sure to backup your phone data first.

Some important reminders that you should know before getting the update.

  • The phone will only be able to get the official update if it has not been rooted.
  • The phone will only be able to get the official update if it is still running on its stock software.
  • If this is an unlocked device then it should be used on its original carrier.

S5 No Software Update Available

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 Active. I keep getting that my “software is up to date” but it’s been a long time since I even had one! My husband has the same exact phone and he is able to receive and download the updates successfully. Everything about his phone is different! I tried doing a factory reset while I saved everything on Smart Switch as per my phone carriers recommendation but it still doesn’t work. This is very frustrating and I don’t know what to do. Can you guys help?

Solution: If your phone has been rooted or is running on a custom firmware then it will not be able to get the official update. If your phone has been unlocked and is being used on a different network then it’s also likely that it won’t be getting any updates.

Since a factory reset still doesn’t fix this issue then the best way to proceed is to try to use Kies to update your phone. Connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies running. If no update is found then you should consider manually flashing the update to your device. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 No Software update

Problem: I have a samsung s5, originally at&t but i use a net10 prepaid sim card (same towers) i know when i changed the APN settings it went from saying at&t in the corner to now just saying HOME for the network, could this be the reason my software won’t even register an update? My wife has a note 4 and she has updated her software at least 3 times since i have, i have 4.4.4 i believe. would changing the apn settings shortly work? (we also have wifi at the house) or can it be done via usb to the desktop? HELP MY PHONE HATES ME

Solution: The most likely reason why your phone is not getting the update is because it can’t access the AT&T update servers. This is usually the case if you use a SIM card of a different network in your phone. If you have access to an AT&T SIM then try inserting it in your device then do the update.

If you don’t have access to an AT&T SIM then try the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
  • Check for the update using the OTA ( over the air method)
  • Check for the update by using Kies. Connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies running. You will be notified if an update is available.

If the above steps don’t work then you should consider manually flashing your phone with its updated firmware file. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Software Update Downloaded

Problem: I have a Samsung S5.  I woke this morning to the following:   The update has been downloaded.  To install it, tap INSTALL.    Update details   Size: 331.31 MB   A software update can include, but is not limited to: – Device stability improvements, bug fixes. -New and / or enhanced features. – Further improvements to performance. To get the best from your device, please keep your phone up to date and regularly check for software updates.remaining:  0.    The underlined words are blue as if they are a hyperlink I didn’t choose to update my my android software.   Is this for real or is it malicious?   I appreciate your help

Solution: It’s very likely that this is a legitimate software update considering its file size. Does it include a software version number? If it does then you can easily check if it is legitimate.

S5 Freezes When Using Facebook App

Problem: My phone will freeze particularly when using the Facebook app it will also pixelate and top bar of the screen where shows time, signal, battery life will fragment. When I switch handset off and back on it fine. Phone also gets hot even when not used and is running really slow. Tried caring cache deleting media etc but nothing helps. Restoring factory settings worries me as I will lose my data

Solution: You really need to perform a factory reset to eliminate any software glitches that could be causing this problem. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. If the issue still occurs after the reset then try the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Take out the microSD card of your phone ( if you have one installed). Check if the issue still occurs.
  • Replace your battery with a new one. Check if the issue still occurs.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 High Processor Activity

Problem: Android System is maxing out the CPU’s. After a soft restart with no apps open the CPU’s are all hovering near 100%. I’ve watched it flash over 100% occasionally. Multiple factory apps stop responding on a regular basis. I’ve updated all apps, cleared the cache partition and wiped all temporary files. I found KNOX was eating up battery so I disabled it to see if there was an improvement, and it did help but I know it’s not a resolution and I’d feel better if Knox was up and running. I’d like to try and resolve it without a factory reset if I could. I feel like reseting everything is like putting up the white flag.

Solution: Does your phone have a microSD card installed? If it has and it has some corrupt sectors then this might be causing the problem. Try removing the card and check if the issue still occurs. If it does then one other thing you can do is to check if a third party app installed in your phone is causing the problem. To do this you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. If the issue doesn’t occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should consider doing a factory reset. Take note that you need to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 is one of the many older generation Android models that has its software updated to Android Marshmallow. Released in 2014, this model was initially running on Android KitKat. S5 Update Installation Aborted Due To Error

Problem: Hey guys,  I am having issues with updating my galaxy s5. After the reboot it says that the installation was aborted due to an error.  I have been to your website and saw that you mention usually issues with space in local memory so i tried to delete stuff as it need 7GB to install. I cant get to more than 4GB of storage availability. there is just nothing else left to delete.  What can i do?

Solution: If you are unable to free up additional internal storage space then the best thing to do right now is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your data before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete you will have to download the update again and install it.

S5 Keep On Getting Software Update Notification

Problem: Good day. I have my galaxy s5 asking me to install its newly downloaded update so i just did it. i updated it. after installation, and my phone opened again, the notification to install the update pops up again and it keeps on staying in my notification panel. No matter how many times i accept and install the update, the notification to install it doesn’t go away. My memory is more than enough to accept the installment. What should be the problem or at least how may i remove it from there. after my installation, some apps i downloaded from google play don’t work as usual. its applocker does not lock the apps at all,. please solve the matter thank you.

Solution: This problem is usually caused by a glitch in the update process. Try rebooting your phone first then see if the problem gets resolved. If the issue still occurs then do the following steps listed below.

  • Start your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This will delete the temporary system data in your device. Once completed restart your phone then check if the issue still occurs.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 MEID Null After Software Update

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 model # SM-G900R6 Android version 6.0.1 I have no data since the update. I can connect to wifi. I noticed that my MEID Dec# says null. I haven’t had any problems with my phone until the update. I can still make calls and send texts. I have tried everything that I can find that comes close to my problem with no luck. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Solution:  It’s most likely that the IMEI number of your phone got erased during the update. Open up the dialer and enter *#06# to check your IMEI number if it is null or you only see zeroes then you won’t be able to connect to your carrier. To fix this try doing the steps listed below.

  • Open the dialerand type- *#197328640# or *#*#197328640#*#*
  • You wil see the Command mode on the screen.  Select  Common.
  • Select (FTM) Option 1. If this option is on, you will have to turn this OFF.
  • When this is off  your NULL or altered IMEI number will be restored
  • Without leaving the Command screen, press the Menu key, the button that’s found left of the Home button.
  • Select Key input and enter option 2 which will turn your FTM OFF
  • Let a minute pass by then remove the battery and SIM card. Leave both out for 2 minutes then place just the battery back and turn on your phone.
  • When the phone is on enter the command mode again dial – *#197328640#
  • Select the Debug Screen, normally option 1
  • Choose phone control, option eight
  • Click on nas control, option 3
  • Click “RRC (HSDPA), option 5
  • Click RRC revision, option 2
  • Choose option 5 (HSDPA only)
  • Turn off your phone and insert your Sim card or else reboot your phone and then insert the SIM card to dial *#06# to see if the IMEI number is restored.

If the problem persists then you should consider flashing your phone with its updated firmware file.

S5 Software Update Not Proceeding

Problem: Hello there! I received an update notice. Once I start the process, it goes through the download phase. I push continue, it then says the phone will restart in 5 seconds. I click restart, phone shuts off, it goes black with the light blue percent at the bottom, but the percentage only gets to about 2% then turns back on. No software update! Then I tried to do it again but I have to wait 22 hours and 55 minutes in order to do it again. I have done this 3 times and no progress is make. I do not want to reset the phone because I know I will lose valuable information. Please HELP!!!

Solution: You should try to check if connecting the phone to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch installed will allow your phone to proceed with the update. If the update still fails then your best option is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Operating System On Your Device Has Been Modified In An Unauthorized Way Error

Problem: When I go to update my software on my Samsung Galaxy S5, I get the following message. The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Samsung Kies on your PC, or visit a customer service center. How do I get my S5 to update? I want to get it to the latest software available. The current system is Android 4.4.2 if that helps. Please help me fix said issue. Thanks!

Solution: You will usually get this error message if your phone has been rooted or is running on a custom firmware. If your phone still does not update when you use Kies then you should consider manually flashing the updated firmware file to your device. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 System Update Failed

Problem: Bought refurbished Verizon unlocked Samsung galaxy s5 SM-G900V. When connected to my computer, Verizon desktop asked me to update S5 android system, I did, but it turned out S5 stuck on “system update failed”. I can’t boot my S5 anymore. I would appreciate it if you could provide any information.

Solution: For this type of issue you should try starting your phone in recovery mode. If you are able to access this mode then you should do a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your data stored in the phone.

If the phone can’t access recovery mode or if the factory reset fails to fix the problem then you should consider manually flashing your phone with its updated firmware file. Refer to the various Android forums online on how to flash your device.

S5 Not Getting Software Update

Problem: Ok i have a Galaxy s5 with the 5.0 version and baseband version G900AUCU4B0F3, in my fam we have 2 more galaxy s5 phones and recently two of them have the latest version of android, but i still have the 5.0 i tried to create space on the phone thinking that i don’t have space but when i tried to update its says that i have the recent update.

Related Problem: Hello,  I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 Active running Android 5.0 and I want to update it to 6.0 Marshmallow. To my knowledge at&t just announced a month ago that we can finally make hte update but when I try to update the software it fails. I have around 3.5 GB of free space, plenty of battery, and am on WI-Fi but it doesn’t allow me to do anything. It says that the “Current software is up to date” and to “…check again in:…” Any idea what I need to do? I have Kies downloaded and it says it’s the latest firmware available.

Related Problem: Hi, I have an I9505 that was purchased legitimately In UAE from a authorized Samsung retailer.   It was purchased unlocked and not married to any carrier.    It has never received any update.  It’s still on 4.3.  I have contacted Samsung about it, but they have not been able to help.   I’ve since moved to the US and have tried to update through Kies and through the internal update, but it says the device is up to date.  Do you have any ideas? Thanks!

Solution: To be able to get the latest software update your phone should not be rooted and it should not be running on a custom firmware. The device should also be running on its original carrier. If your phone meets these conditions and it won’t update then try connecting it to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch running. Let the software update your device. You should also consider backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset before checking for an update.

If the above steps fail then you should consider manually flashing the updated firmware file to your phone.

S5 Unlocked Software Upgrade

Problem: I have Galaxy S5 Model SM-G900A. It is AT&T UNLOCKED, last month bought from USA. I am using it in my country with local sims. It has Android 4.4.2, Baseband version is: G900AUCU2ANG3 Can I upgrade it to Lollipop 5 or even Android 6 without losing unlocking status (I mean will it remain unlocked after upgrading). If yes, then how can I perform upgrading? Thanks

Solution: Doing the software upgrade won’t affect the unlock status of your phone. Since you are out of the country and don’t have access to an AT&T SIM then try doing the software update using Kies. If this doesn’t work then you should consider flashing the updated firmware file to your phone. Instructions on how to flash your device can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Software Update Using Different Carrier

Problem: I want to update my Samsung Galaxy s5 software. But when I check for update, it says that the software is up to date. Same when I use Kies. The phone has an at&t logo on the back but I use t-mobile sim. Does that have anything to do with it? I just want to upgrade my phone’s software

Solution: Since this is originally an AT&T device the best way to proceed with the update is to insert an AT&T SIM so that your phone will have access to the AT&T update servers. Once the AT&T SIM is installed try checking for the update.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Does Not Show Updates Available Issue & Other Related Problems

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 which was released way back in 2014 has already undergone several software updates. Initially running on Android Lollipop when it first became available this phone has now been updated to Android Marshmallow. While updating the software is easy since a notification will appear, sometimes this update is unavailable. In other instances, the phone might have some issues during or after the update. This is what we aim to address today as we tackle the Galaxy S5 does not show updates available issue & other related problems. We have gathered several issues of this nature sent to us by our readers and have addressed them below.

S5 Does Not Show Updates Available

Problem: I purchased my SM-G900M Galaxy 5 from Defense Mobile (ATT) 9 months ago. I recently switched to Cricket Wireless (again ATT). My phone has the original software installed 4.4.2, and does not show any updates are available. I cannot get Kies to work on either of my Vista PCs. I tried removing the battery and no updates. It still says Defense Mobile when I power it on, but Cricket afterwards. Cricket support was useless. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Solution: Unless the phone is unbranded ( not locked to any carrier when originally bought), the ideal way of getting the software update is when the SIM card of its original carrier is used. This is because the phone will be looking for the update from the servers of its original carrier.

Now, since your phone is now on a different carries the next best thing to do to check for the update is to use Kies. You should try using Kies preferably on a computer running on Windows 10. Once the phone is detected by Kies then you will be notified of the update.

Another step you should try is to do a factory reset before checking for the update ( either through the OTA method or by using Kies). Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

One last thing you should consider is to manually flash the updated software to your phone. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Keeps On Restarting after Software Update

Problem: Hi, I am using Samsung Galaxy S5 (SMG900F) Recently i update from lollipop to marshmallow through official update and it was working well. Recently i got another official update indicate that for performance, from the day i did the recent update my phone is restarting always and its showing samsung galaxy S5 and again and again restarting and showing the samsung galaxy S5 until i am removing the battery. after 5 or 10 mints later if i am inserting the battery and power on the phone it will boot and we can see Samsung logo and will appear (android is starting….. optimising app 286 of 1). After this upgrading phone will work as usual. When i start using the phone regularly after sometimes the phone will be re start as same i said earlier. and i need to do again the all this things to work phone. Kindly guide me what is the issue and how can i sort out this issue.

Solution: It’s most likely that this issue is caused by a data issue in your device. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone first in recovery mode. This will delete the temporary data in your phone which could sometimes be corrupt and is causing this issue. Restart your phone then  check if the problem still occurs. If it does then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Software Not Updated Error 555

Problem: When I go to check for system updates, it says “Software not updated” “failed June 4 2016 Error Code: 555”. So, it attempted to update, but failed. When I select “check for new system updates, it says my phone is up to date, but clearly it is not, as I do not have Marshmallow, and still running 5.0, and when I go into update history, it says my last update was on March 3, 2016. I attempted to use the verizon update assistant on my computer a well, and it also says there is no update. Please help. Thanks!

Solution: Your phone might be sending a signal to the Verizon update servers that it is already updated despite the fact that it failed to get the update. In this case the most likely problem is that the download got interrupted or the installation of the update was incomplete resulting in the error 555.

What you need to do in this case is to try wiping the cache partition of your phone first from the recovery mode. This will delete the phone’s temporary data which could be causing the problem. Once this is done make sure that your phone is connected to a strong and stable Wi-Fi network before checking for the update.

If the problem is still the same then you should proceed with clearing the cache and data of the download manager app. You can do this from the application manager.

If the above steps fail then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done check for the update again.

S5 Software Update Could Not Be Installed

Problem: Anytime my phone tells me that there is an update available I go to download and install the update. I currently have over 6 GB of space on my phone. Once the phone starts the install the update it gets to 1% then stops. Then when I unlock my phone after the restart is done, a screen pops up and says “the software update could not be installed” I have lots of space on my phone and am confused to why it won’t update.

Solution: Since it’s clear that available space is not the problem then the next possible reason why this is happening is that the issue could be caused by the current phone software. What you should do is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done download the software update again and install it.

S5 Not Getting Software Update

Problem: I have a galaxy s5 Verizon  5.0 brand phone it is prepaid and I’m with straight talk and have not received the 6.0 update don’t know if I will receive it or not or if Verizon has sent out the update over the air or not please help me with this issue if you can.

Solution: Since this phone is originally a Verizon phone then it is designed to look for the update from the Verizon servers. The only way to access this is if your phone is on the Verizon network. If you have access to a Verizon 4G SIM then try inserting it in your phone then try checking for the update.

One other option that you should try is to use Kies in updating your phone. Connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies running then check for the update.

If the above steps fail then try backing up your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done check for the update again using the two methods listed above.

S5 Still Not Running Marshmallow

Problem: Purchased the phone used and did the two available updates it gave. Update info claims it to be running marshmallow but under about phone in settings shows version 5.0. Have restarted phone and also tried factory reset. Same thing shows. Any idea on a way to solve this?

Solution: Since you already did a factory reset and the software is still showing as Lollipop then the phone might not have gotten the Marshmallow update. Try to manually check for the update again. If the update is not available through OTA method then try connecting your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies running then check for the update.

S5 Software Update Failed

Problem: I go to update my device and it hits the reset and goes to the updating screen but instantly says update failed and it brings me back to my home screen when it once again says software update failed. Idk what update this is but it needs to be updated. I haven’t had a successful update in so long.

Solution: To successfully update your phone make sure that you have your device connected to a strong and stable Wi-Fi network. You should also have sufficient internal storage space available. ( if possible have at least 7GB of space free). Another factor that can prevent your phone from updating is your current phone software. If this is the case you should backup your phone’s data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete you should check for the update and install it.

S5 Unable To Do Software Update

Problem: Hello, I’m unable to do the software update to Lollipop. I receive the (failed to update software…. Update failed. Your device will recover the original configuration.

Solution: There are various factors involved that may be causing this particular issue. If your phone is rooted or has been previously rooted then unrooted then you will be getting this update failed error. If your phone has a custom recovery or an insecure boot image then this may also be the reason as to why you are seeing this error message. If you think that the above reasons are causing this issue then the best way to proceed is to download the stock firmware of your phone and flash it with Odin. Instructions on how to flash your device can be found at most of the popular Android forums online.

However, if your phone has not been rotted and is still running on its stock firmware then the update failed error message may just be a software glitch. To fix this try to backup your phnoe data then do a factory reset. Once the factory reset has finished check for the software update again and download it. It’s very likely that you won’t be seeing the error message again.

S5 Keeps Notifying Of Update

Problem: Had a message for update or remind later so I went ahead an updated. It took about 10 min total to download  and  install  then restart. After this now getting  the same message  to  update the same update?? Gonna try the soft reset and see if this helps,if not I will get bk to ya.

Solution: This may just be a glitch in your phone software. If the soft reset does not work then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 AT&T Software Update Available, No Available Space To Download Error

Problem: There is an icon with 2 opposite facing arrows and a check mark below them at the top left of my screen. When I pull it down it says, “AT&T Software Update Available, No available space to download”. I have deleted multiple apps, pictures, videos, music, and transferred others to the 64GB SD card I bought because of this problem. I have also taken out the battery many times. The last time I took out the Sim card as well and left them out for more than  30 minutes. My settings say that I have 4.40GB of space available on my phone but I can’t get that darned thing to go away! And what if I don’t want the update anyway? It never lets me say no to those.

Solution: To be able to upgrade your phone software to Lollipop under the AT&T network you will need a minimum of 3GB of free disk space. Since you already have 4.40GB of free internal storage space then this should already be sufficient however your phone is still getting the error message.

This error may be caused by a corrupt temporary data. You will need to try to wipe the cache partition of your phone first then check if the update process pushes through. If it doesn’t then back up your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the factory reset has finished manually check for the software update by going to Settings –  About Device – Software Update  – Check for Update.

S5 Not Getting Software Update After Switching Carriers

Problem: how do u get software updates once you switch your phone to straight talk. Phones work fine but no updates . Last update was 4/06/2015 which failed. We were with Verizon.

Solution: You need to be connected to the Verizon servers to update your phone which means you need to have a Verizon service running on your phone first. If this is not possible at the moment then try connecting your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies running. Once your phone is detected you will be prompted of a software upgrade. If no software upgrade is available then another method of getting the latest update on your device is to download the updated stock software and flashing it to your phone using Odin.

S5 Not Getting Software Update

Problem: I got my phone January 2015. It hasn’t done not one system update, or update to the new lollipop theme. I’ve tried everything. I reset my phone and everything. It still will not update. I’m not sure what’s going on. Can you help?

Solution: You should first check if your phone has been rooted previously then unrooted or if it is currently rooted. This is usually the reason why your phone won’t get any software updates. Running a custom recovery on your device or an insecure boot image is also another reason why your phone will not get the software update.

If your phone is running on stock firmware which has been untouched and you are not getting any updates then try to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the factory reset has finished connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer running Kies. Once your phone gets detected you will be notified of a software update.
