S5 Not Turning On After Overnight Charge

Problem: My sister has an S5, she was charging the phone while we were chatting. After an hour of chatting, she left her phone charged the whole night. When she tried to turn on her phone, it will not turn on, she removed the battery and put it back after 10 mins, tried to turn it on again to no avail. She brought it to a Samsung dealer and was told that it’s her mother board that is not working because she was told that she was using the phone while charging. Never heard about this problem. Hoping for an answer from the experts. BTW, I bought her the phone used from Ebay last Oct and it looks new.

Solution: One of the many myths that we have heard regarding a smartphone is that it will get damaged if it is being used while charging. While it’s possible that this could happen if let’s say the charging cord has a cut wire and this causes a short circuit if you use the phone this is still a very remote possibility. The only sure thing that will happen if you use your phone while it is charging is that it will take a longer time for the battery to reach 100%.

Regarding this problem you should first try to replace the battery with a new one as the battery might have been damaged by the overnight charging. This usually happens if the circuit controlling the charging process can’t detect that the battery is already fully charged and is still constantly supplying charge to the battery.

If replacing the battery doesn’t work then the problem could either be caused by burned power IC or charging IC. You should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked. If the problem is caused by either of the two then it can easily be replaced by a technician.

S5 Screen Does Not Turn On

Problem: Hi there! I have never had any issues with my phone until last nite. For some reason the only thing I did different was take out my battery while the phone was still on. When I put the battery back in the screen remained black!! The multi window as well as the back button light up. I am also able to hear all of my notifications go off. It will also ring for a phone call, and sometimes I am able to answer it. Please help!! A soft reset has not been successful,, as I can not see anything displayed on the screen!

Solution: If you are getting notifications and calls then chances are the problem is caused by a faulty display assembly. To check if this is the case try to follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Remove the battery and microSD card ( if your phone has one installed) then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then turn on your phone.
  • Check if your phone can start in recovery mode. If the display works in this mode then you should consider doing a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is very likely a display related issue already. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: I had went to plug my phone into the wall outlet today and when I plugged it in it would not charge. I tried blowing out the ports, resetting the phone and plugging it into a different wall outlet, nothing worked. So I finally plugged it into my laptop which worked. I went out to my truck to get my spare charging cable, thinking it was a cable issue and when I plugged it into the original plug adapter it still didn’t work. Then I got my original cord and plugged it into a spare adapter and now it is charging. To me it sounds like the original fast charger adapter, the one that came with the phone, went bad. I am no wiz at electronics so can you please confirm this for me? If it is something else do you have any advisement?

Solution: The problem is either caused by a bad charging cord, which can easily be fixed by using a new cord, or a faulty charging port. If the issue is caused by the charging port then you will need to have this checked at a service center. If this port is proven to be causing the problem then you will have to get this replaced.

S5 Flashes Boot Logo Unless Plugged To Charger

Problem: Hello, While watching some anime my phone suddenly shut off and acted like its going to restart. Ever since then it flashes the boot logo every five seconds unless it is plugged into my charger. When plugged in it’s at 100% and has no issues and works perfectly but as soon as I unplug it, it starts doing the logo flash thing. Please help. Thanks, Jasmine

Solution: There are two things that you need to do in this particular case. You will need to check if the phone software is causing the problem and you should also check if the battery is causing the problem. To do this just do the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs.
  • Replace the battery with a new one.

If the problem still occurs even after performing the steps listed above then this is very likely caused by a defective power IC of the phone. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Only Charges In Car

Problem: My Samsung Galaxy S5 will charge easily in my car, but not from a USB charger attached to household current or my computer. The charge icon is lit, but the battery still drains. I have tried several cords and chargers, removed and replaced the battery, tried charging with the phone off, all with no luck. It is an intermittent problem so sometimes everything works just fine.

Solution: Try cleaning the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air as dirt or debris present in the port can cause this kind of problem. If the issue remains then this could be caused by a faulty charging port. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Not Turning On

Problem: Phone has just died. alarm went off and I switched it  off using my Samsung Gear Fit2. Checked my phone 10 minutes later and is was dead. Followed all the steps in your tutorial and nothing, no vibration, noise, any signs of life. Tried another battery, nothing. confirmed my battery was 96% full. Not under warranty as over a year old.

Solution: If replacing the battery doesn’t work then this could be caused by an internal component of the phone that is failing to work. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Not Charging Has power Sharing App Error

Problem: hi, Since today morning my phone stopped charging suddenly. It is showing me the pop up ‘power sharing app’. I have reboot the phone in safe mode too as well as i have removed the battery and reinsert t. but nothing helps. and now my phone is fully discharged. is is not even on. Please help me what should i do?

Solution: The power sharing app allows your phone to charge other devices connected to it from its charging port. You will however need a special cable to do this. If your phone does not have the app installed or if you are not using this special cable then the issue could be caused by a faulty charging port. Try cleaning the charging port using a can of compressed air making sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in the port. If the issue still remains after this then you should have the charging port checked at a service center. If the port is causing the problem then it’s best if you have this replaced.

S5 Battery Won’t Charge

Problem: Battery won’t charge. I’ve ruled out possibility of cable/adapter as these both work on other phone. Few days ago the adapter that came with the phone from Samsung didn’t work anymore. Replacing it with Apple iPod USB power adapter worked for just few days. Now this also seems to be insufficient.  Any other suggestions are welcome.

Solution: If you have already isolated the charger block and cord which isn’t causing the problem then the next step is to check the phone charging port. See if it has any dirt or debris which could interfere with the charging process. If necessary, clean the port with a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

The next suspect that you should consider is the battery itself. If this battery is faulty then it may not charge at all. Try using a different battery on your phone then see if this solves the issue.

One last troubleshooting step that you can do is a factory reset. This allows you to eliminate any software related issues that could cause this problem. Just remember to backup your phone data first before performing this procedure.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center.

S5 Turns Off When Unplugged From Charger

Problem: Everytime I unplug my phone it turns off even when the battery says 100%.  Then, when I plug it back in to charge this charging battery shows with flashing green dot at the bottom of the battery but it stays as 0%.  I can’t turn it back on unless I press the power, volume down, plus home buttons all together.  When I do that it turns on normally but my battery is back at 0% slowly charging.  However, I can never unplug it from the wall or it dies again.

Solution: In cases such as this the problem is usually caused by a weak battery. Try getting a new battery then see if this fixes the problem.

S5 Won’t Charge Drains Battery Quickly

Problem: This is the second time I’ve had this same issue. I flew across time zones with the phone in airplane mode. When I landed, to get it to update location, time etc, I had to reboot. Now it won’t charge. It drains battery faster than it charges. I’ve done the power/volume down reboot twice. I’m at a loss

Solution: The phone is experiencing two issues right now. First, it won’t charge. Second, the battery drains fast.

To resolve the charging issue

  • Try using a different charger and charging cord
  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

To resolve the battery drain issue

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Sometimes corrupt temporary data can cause this problem.
  • Start your phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then it’s most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset

If the both problems still occur then consider getting a new battery.

S5 Not Charging After Getting Wet

Problem: My phone was in my waterproof jacket’s pocket as I was outside in the rain.  Apparently it was enough moisture to get into the phone.  I pulled my phone out of my pocket to use it (about 20 minutes after using it) and it had a green screen.  I tried to turn it off, but nothing was functional…couldn’t turn it off or on.  Now after several days, it won’t charge or turn on or do anything.  I am hoping to get the pictures of my kids off it!

Solution: You should first make sure that the phone is completely dry by placing it in a bag of rice for at least 24 hours. Once this is done try using a new battery on your phone then check if it charges. If the phone does not charge then you need to bring it to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: Hello. Phone has been sitting on a shelf and has not been turned on since August. Phone will not turn on. It has been charged overnight, I have tried alternative charger, used a socket and my computer and nothing. When I plug in to my computer, computer does not read the phone. Not sure what to do next. Thanks!

Solution: What you want to do in this case is to use a new battery on your phone since this issue could be caused by a dead battery. Make sure to charge the new battery at least 20 minutes before turning the phone on.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Only Charges When Turned Off Issue & Other Related Problems

A smartphone can be one of the most important devices that you should bring wherever you are however its usefulness depends on whether it has sufficient battery power. Once the battery gets drained then the device is useless. The good thing is that if there is no available power outlet to plug the wall charger you can use a powerbank to charge the phone. The #Samsung Galaxy #S5 for instance is able to get a full charge on its 2800 mAh battery in just a few hours.

Samsung Galaxy S5

There are however instances when charging issues can occur on this particular model. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 only charges when turned off issue & other related problems.

S5 Only Charges When Turned Off

Problem: My phone will only charge while turned off, or when in Safe Mode. Otherwise, if I try to charge it while the phone is on, it indicates that it’s charging, but the battery drains anyway. I’ve tried changing the cable. I did a soft reboot (removing the battery for 30 seconds). Neither of those helped. I also checked the battery usage and didn’t see anything unusual there. Facebook using 7% was the highest thing in the list. I’m afraid that I’ll need to do a factory reset, but I wanted to check with you first before doing that. Thanks.

Solution: A factory reset is one of the steps that needs to be done to resolve this issue. However, since all of your data will be lost in the process it’s going to take some time to restore the data and install your apps.

If you have an extra battery available then try using this in your phone since sometimes this causes the problem. You should also check the charging port of your phone for any signs of dirt or debris. If necessary, clean this port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

S5 Battery Drains Fast

Problem: Hi, I bought a Galaxy S5 three months ago and was fine at the beginning. Suddenly, last week the battery starts to drain fast and, if I remove the battery, I must connect the phone to an electrical source to power on it. I did all the “classical” stuff: factory reset, cleaned cache, dalvik… Also, I borrow from a friend a battery and discarded a malfunction battery. I am afraid of a hardware issue.

Solution: If you already performed all of the necessary software related troubleshooting steps and also replaced the battery then this issue could already be hardware related. There may be a component inside your phone that is failing or there could be a grounded circuit. I recommend that you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: Basically, my phone died cause of the battery and so i put it on charge, but it didn’t come up with the battery and what percentage it was on, so I kept trying and eventually it worked, but after 5 minutes it suddenly went to this weird downloading thing, it had a bunch of information on the top left corner going down and a big android logo in the middle, and it had ‘downloading!!!! Do not unplug your device’, so I left it overnight, there was no idea how long it was going to take. But 12 hours later, nothing had changed, then suddenly blank. Nothing. And now whenever I plug it into the charger it comes up with the battery and the lightning bolt, but never changes or charges.

Solution: The first thing you need to do in this case is to take out the phone battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then turn the phone on. Connect the charger then check if the problem still occurs. If it does then inspect the phone charging port for any signs of dirt or debris. If necessary, clean this port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. When charging your phone try using a different charging cord as this cord gets easily damaged. You should also try using a different wall charger. If you have an extra battery try inserting it in your phone as well then check if the phone charges normally with this battery.

If the issue still persists then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset to eliminate any software related issues that could be causing the problem.

If the problem remains unresolved at this point then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking. I suspect that the charging port of your phone could be causing the problem.

S5 Charges Slow And Battery Drains Fast

Problem: Howdy! I have been having some issues charging my phone in the last few days, so I went to your article How to Fix… (https://thedroidguy.com/2015/05/how-to-fix-samsung-galaxy-s5-charging-problems-troubleshooting-guides-107137) in order to see if your steps would help me charge my phone. However, the problem I am having was not quite listed in the article. Here’s the skinny: My phone will charge, but only very, very slowly, and it is not the charger or cord’s problem. (My husband’s Galaxy S5 was at 13% when I plugged it in about 2 minutes ago and now it is at 17%, so I seriously doubt it is the cord.). When charging, my phone vibrates and the plug symbol turns off, as though the phone is no longer charging. It is as though the plug is not actually connecting to the charge port and is wiggling loose somehow – but if that is the case I don’t know how it happened since I take excellent care of my phone. The battery seems to drain a lot faster than it used to. I tried most of the troubleshooting steps from your article and am at a loss how to get my phone back to normal. It has only been this way a few days so something must have changed, but I can’t think of what it might have been. Any advice you might have would be super.

Solution: Have you tried doing a factory reset? If you haven’t then backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This will eliminate any software related issues that may be causing the problem. If the issue still persists then try cleaning your phone’s charging port with a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol as dirt or debris can have this effect on phone’s.

If the problem does not go away then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Charges Sporadically

Problem: hi my phone charges sporadically. like if i plug it in it may only charge for a few seconds then stop. Or it may not charge at all then all of a sudden start charging again. it got a little wet but that was only drops on the screen. i had a case around it to.

Solution: This issue is usually caused by a defective charging cord. Try using a new charging cord when charging your phone then check if the problem still occurs. If it does then I suggest you clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. The presence of dirt or debris in this port could cause your phone to charge sporadically.

S5 Battery Temperature Too Low Charging Is Paused Error

Problem: When trying to charge the phone it comes up with “Battery temperature too low charging is paused”. I cannot find the issue – can you help me?

Solution: The first thing you need to do in this case is to rule out any software glitches that could be causing this problem To do this you need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the problem remains then try to replace the charging cord and wall charger. You should also clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. If you have a spare battery try using it as well to check if the problem is caused by a faulty battery.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. The problem could be caused by a faulty temperature sensor or a damaged charger port flex.

S5 Not Charging With Other Chargers

Problem: When I plug in my Samsung USB connected to a travel adaptor, my phone charges however slower than usual. If I use any other charger or USB to charge my phone it doesn’t work regardless of using the official samsung charger or any other charger which fits into the port. Please could you tell me a solution to this problem? Thanks

Solution: Try using a different charging cord when charging your phone. You should also clean the charger port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. If the issue persists then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset to eliminate any software related issues that could be causing this problem.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Will Not Recognize Charger Issue & Other Related Problems

When your phone battery runs low the first thing that you will probably do is to look for the charger and charge the device. The #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 for example will need to be charged for around 2 hours from 10% to 100%. While charging the device is quite easy there are instances when issues can arise. This is what we will be discussing today as we tackle the Galaxy S5 will not recognize charger issue & other related problems. We have selected several issues of this nature that you, our readers, have sent us and have addressed them below.

S5 Will Not Recognize Charger

Problem: My phone will not recognize its charger at all when it is on. I have tried multiple cords and charging boxes. When it is turned off it will start to charge and show the battery picture for about 6 seconds then it goes away. It does this over and over again. It will eventually charge this way but obviously something went wrong. I have tried a soft reset and cleaning the charging port. What else can I do? Thanks

Solution: Since you have already tried using different cords and charging boxes then we can eliminate this as causing the problem. What you need to concentrate on this time is the phone software, battery, and the charging port. Follow the troubleshooting I’ve listed below.

  • Take out the phone battery. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute then reinsert the battery. This procedure discharges the phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Check if you are now able to charge your phone.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset do not install any app in your phone yet. Try to check first if the phone will charge.
  • Try using a new battery on your phone.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. It’s possible that there could be an issue with the charging port or with the power IC of your device.

S5 Will Not Charge

Problem: Help please!! I used the same charger all the time the all of the sudden last night it wouldn’t charge my phone. The message I get when I plug the charger in. “Unable to charge. Use original charger. The connected charger is incompatible with your phone. To prevent damage to your phone, charging has been stopped. To continue charging, use the original charger and cable that were provided for this phone.” It is the original charger.

Solution: There are two possible factors that could be causing this problem. First, it could be caused by the charger. Second, it could be caused by the phone. Follow our troubleshooting steps listed below to fix this problem. Move to the next step if issue still persists.

  • Try using a different charger. Make sure to use a different charging cord and charging block. If possible try to check this other charger with another device and see if it works.
  • Clean the charging port of your phone. Sometimes there could be some dirt or debris present in this port. This can often interfere with the charging process. To clean the charging port use a can of compressed air, a cotton bud dipped in alcohol, or blow on it using a straw.
  • Take out the phone battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then turn on your phone.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from recovery mode. This deletes the temporary data in your phone which could be causing the problem.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Not Charging With Particular USB Cable

Problem: Hi just curious I have a Samsung s5. I brought a new usb charger but the phone wont charge at all with the new cable in. I’ve checked and other usb cables are charging my phone perfectly. The reason I’m confused is because the new usb cable will charge another s5. Could software be preventing my phone from accepting the new usb cable or any other reasons as it works on another s5 with no problem. I use the official samsung plug thank you for your help.

Solution: This is indeed a strange issue since the new cable is recognized by another S5 but not on your device. It’s possible that the phone software is causing this issue. Try troubleshooting this issue by performing the steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Check if the USB cable works.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Try to move or bend the USB cable while it is connected to the phone then check if it gets detected. If there are instances when it gets detected then the problem could be caused by a loose connection in the USB cable itself or the phone charging port.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: My phone won’t charge no matter the cord or wall outlet I use. When I plug in the USB cord it displays the empty battery with a thunderbolt sometimes, other times it doesn’t display anything at all. Very occasionally will it actually charge, and even then it’s just for a few minutes up to 1 or 2%, then cut out.

Solution: Try to perform the troubleshooting steps listed below to resolve this issue. Move to the next step if the current step fails to resolve the problem.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone. You can use a can of compressed air or a cotton bud dipped in alcohol.
  • Try using a different charger. Make sure to use a different USB cord and charging block.
  • Replace the battery with a new one.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the issue then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Does Not Turn On Or Charge

Problem: After heavy use of photo apps I attempted to install a spirit level app and phone reported lack of memory so skipped the install. Later phone was fine for texting and a call. A while after that pressing power did not light the screen. Pressing and holding power gives a flickering green LED but no wake up. Pressing and holding power and volume up produced flickering green LED but nothing else. Similarly holding power and down was no better. So I removed phone from case, pulled battery and memory card. Still no improvement, including simultaneous button holds. Tried charger, saw flickering green LED and phone and battery got hot quickly. Finally removed battery, held power for 1 min, inserted battery and played on charger. No green charging LED and no heat. Waiting 20 min before attempting next power up.

Solution: Try starting your phone in recovery mode. If you are able to access this mode then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone. If this does not resolve the issue then do a factory reset in this mode. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding.

If your phone is unable to acces the recovery mode then I suggest you try getting a new battery.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Turns Off When Disconnected From Charger

Problem: My phone turns off within seconds of taking it off charge. When I do take it off it vibrates, the logo screen comes on, it vibrates again, and repeats. the only way to use my phone is while it is on charge. I’m willing to do anything, but factory reset. I would really need the help. Thank you

Solution: It’s very likely that the problem is caused by a weak battery. Try getting a new battery and see if this fixes the problem.

S5 Erratic Charging

Problem: When you plug in the charger it will charge on and off and will drain very quickly. When it is not plugged in it will say its charging on and off.

Solution: In most cases like this the problem is usually caused by a defective charging port. You should however check first if the phone software is causing this by backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset. If the issue still remains after this then bring your phone to an authorized service center and have your phone checked.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Will Not Charge When Powered Up Issue & Other Related Problems

Smartphones such as the #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 can be used for a day or two before it needs to be charged again. This particular model with its 2800 mAh battery actually has a good battery life. On a full charge the phone can provide around 27 hours of 3G talk time, 9 hours of web browsing time, or 11 hours of video playback. Once the battery has been depleted all you need to do is connect the phone to a charger to fully charge it. There are however instances when certain charging issues can occur on this phone which we will  be addressing today. S5 Will Not Charge When Powered Up

Problem: This is a little different version of a problem you’ve address several times. My Galaxy S5 won’t charge when powered up AND there is no lightning bolt. If I power it down it charges but painfully slow. This problem began about a week to ten days ago when it would barely charge at all, off or on and it would discharge quickly. I couldn’t even use the phone. I did a factory reset and it now doesn’t discharge quite as quickly when using the phone but again, charges slowly when turned off (with lightening bolt) and not at all when powered up (no lightening bolt.)

Solution: Since you already performed a factory reset we can then set aside the software as a possible cause to this problem. The next thing you should concentrate on this the phone battery. Have you tried replacing this with a new one? If not then try getting a new battery then check if the issue still occurs. You should also try cleaning the charging port of your phone to check if dirt or debris stuck in the port is causing the problem.

If the above steps fail to work  then this is most likely caused by an internal component that is failing to work, possibly the power IC or charging port assembly. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center if this is the case.

S5 Stuck In Samsung Logo After Rooting

Problem: I had rooted my S5 and was using CM13 custom mod.  It kept restarting so I decided to unroot and go back to stock ROM. This done, (with G900FXXU1CPGD_G900FH3G1CPG1_H3G from sammobile.com) my S5 will not boot to either recovery OR download mode.  It always goes from the Samsung logo, to the 3 logo and stays there.  It does this no matter if I do vol-up+home+power, vol-down+home+power, vol-up+vol-down+power+USB, power to Samsung then hold vol-down. Help!!  PLEASE!

Solution: Try downloading the updated firmware file again for your phone then flash it back. Make sure to use an updated version of Odin. Once the flashing is successful try to turn on the phone. If it still gets stuck on the Samsung logo perform the steps listed below.

  • Remove the microSD card of your phone if you have one installed.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Do a factory reset from the recovery mode.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then this might already be a hardware related issue. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.

S5 Drains Battery Very Fast

Problem: My phone is draining my battery pretty fast. It also won’t charge unless I turn my phone off. And even at that, it charges like every 20 seconds off and on. I thought maybe it could have been a battery problem so I purchased a new one. It did the same thing when I put the new one in. So I reset my phone to factory setting and it still does the same thing. I don’t know what else more I could do.. Help!

Solution: This is a similar issue to the first problem that we addressed in this post. Since you already performed a factory reset and even replaced the battery without any effect then it’s very likely that this is already a hardware related problem.

What you can do right now is to try cleaning the charging port using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in this port is removed. If this doesn’t fix the issue then it’s probably caused by a damaged charging port assembly or faulty power IC. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center to pinpoint the exact cause of this problem.

S5 Charges On And Off

Problem: I replaced charging port twice and usb seems to connect and move data fine but my phone wont charge properly..wireless charging works fine but when i plug in several usb chargers in cycles on and off and seems to drain not charge battery..also doesn’t charge when phone off..shows charge but drains..galaxy s5

Solution: Listed below are the troubleshooting steps that you need to do to resolve this problem.

  • Clean the charging port using a can of compressed air.
  • Try using a different charging cord when charging your phone.
  • Try charging your phone from a computer USB port. If it charges fine then you might have a problem with the fast charging pin of the charging port. Have this checked at a service center.
  • Try using a different wall charger.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This allows you to check if the phone software is causing the problem.
  • Try replacing the phone battery.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then this could be caused by an internal component that is failing to work, possibly the power IC. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: I have a samsung galaxy s5 and i wanted to charge. I plug in the cable but there was no sign of charging. Than i changed the charger but the same thing happened. I turned off the phone and when it was completely off a sign of charging showed up on the screen for 5 seconds and then disappeared. Can you tell me any step that i can do before sending to technical for checking the charging port since it give a sign of charging when is off.

Solution: It’s very likely that this problem is caused by an issue with the charging port. Unfortunately the only troubleshooting step you can do on this port is to clean it using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in this port is removed. If the issue still occurs after this then try replacing the phone battery. If this fails then bring the phone to a service center and have it checked. It’s possible that the while charging port assembly will have to be replaced if it is found to be defective.

S5 Heats Up When Charging

Problem: My battery was completely drained and I have been trying to charge the phone but each time I place the phone on the charger it starts heating up and I’m not able to get it to turn on.

Solution: There could be a short circuit in your phone since it heats up when you try to charge it. Try using a different charging cord and charger when charging the phone. If the problem persists then you should replace the battery with a new one then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then immediately disconnect the phone from the charger and bring the phone for checking at a service center.

S5 Yellow Triangle With Exclamation Mark When Charging Phone

Problem: My phone is able to turn on but when it does it is only at 1% then it dies. i try to charge but it charges then stops and doesn’t charge the phone. later when it’s dead the lightning icon pops up but then it’s followed with the yellow triangle with exclamation point in it. i’ve tried removing the battery and using many different chargers and none seem to work. what can be the problem?

Solution: This problem is either caused by a damaged charging port assembly or a faulty battery. Try replacing the battery of your phone first then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have the charging port assembly checked.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Randomly Switches Off Then Restarts Issue & Other Related Problems

Once considered the best smartphone of 2014, the #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 is still quite popular today.  A lot of people are still using this device today due to the fact that it has proven itself as a dependable daily driver. While it may already be showing signs of age as it can’t keep up with the latest flagship models released this year in terms of performance it can however still provide a great user experience thanks in part to its Marshmallow update. Some owners of this phone however are having issues with it which we will tackle today. S5 Randomly Switches Off Then Restarts

Problem: Firstly thanks for taking the time to read my problem. I have a samsung s5 that has boot loop BUT. I have done a few firmware swaps ( trying older versions, to maybe have some luck). Also i have played with the power button. Now it will load up and randomly after about 30s to a minute it switches off and restarts. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, also i’m happy to be a test for what ever to find the problem for future reference.

Solution: Right now we could eliminate any software related issues that could be causing this problem since you mentioned you already tried different firmware version on your phone. Several other steps that you can do is to remove the microSD card of the phone is you have one installed since this can also be contributing factor to this problem.

Another factor that you should check is the battery. If this battery is already faulty then this kind of problem can occur. Try replacing the battery and see if the issue is resolved.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then I suggest that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: I have galaxy S5 and i dropped it about two months ago. But it was in a thick case so so i wasn’t worried of any damages. But later on when my phone was about to die i plugged it in and it didn’t charge at all even when i tried switching batteries and different chargers. When i tried charging it when the phone was completely turned off, it would vibrate and show a grey battery icon every 10 or so seconds.

Solution: What you should do first in this particular case is to clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris that could be present in this port is removed as this can cause charging problems. Try charging your phone. If it still does not charge then you should have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 No Response To Charging

Problem: I have a galaxy s5 and when I charge it there is no response as if it is charging, so I thought that it was the wire and adapter’s fault and charged them. Even so, there was no response, then I try it with and power bank. This time, on the power bank, it showed that the phone is charging, but in the phone it didn’t show. After that I shutdown the phone and open it up again, and from 14%of power when to 26%. So the phone is charging , but the phone doesn’t show it is charging. When I shutdown the phone me and charged it there still was no response of a charging battery instead there was a attention sign on the battery. Can you and your team please find out what this is and why it has came and how I can fix it.

Solution: This might be caused by a glitch in the phone software. Try the following steps listed below to fix this issue. Move to the next step if the issue still occurs.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Restart your phone then check if the issue still occurs.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Check if the problem still occurs.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then proceed with the steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in the port is removed.
  • Try using a different charging cord.
  • Try using a different wall charger.
  • Try using a new battery,

Should the issue persist at this point I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Gets Hot After Factory Reset

Problem: Hi so I factory data reset my phone then it was flashing the logo Samsung then the phone got hot so we kept taking the battery out then it said my phone was 20% but I thought it was higher but I could be wrong please help me I’m so worried I did this because I had a virus on my phone now it’s charging and I’m not touching it but it show s it’s charging and I was wondering will my phone be alright.

Solution: Try to check if your mobile data or Wi-Fi is turned on and if the phone is downloading app updates. This will usually cause the device to heat up a bit. If the phone isn’t downloading anything and if both Wi-Fi and mobile data are off then try removing the battery of your phone as well as the microSD card ( if you have one installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Once this is done reinsert just  the battery then turn on your phone. Does it still heat up? If it does then try using a new battery.

Should the above steps fail to fix the problem the I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Won’t Charge

Problem: I bought a brand new battery but my phone still won’t charge. When I insert the charger the battery power is actually dropping instead of increasing even though the “flash” sign indicating that the phone is charging is on…..help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Solution: To troubleshoot this problem follow the steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone making sure that any dirt or debris stuck in the port is removed. Use a can of compressed air when cleaning the port.
  • Use a different charging cord
  • Use a different wall charger
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the issue still occurs at this point then I suggest that you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

S5 Screen Flashes When Home Or Side Buttons Are Pressed

Problem: My Samsung S5 screen has started flashing amber when I touch either the home button or side button to bring up the unlock screen. It was really quick and hardly noticeable at first, but now it’s flashing a couple of times in quick succession right before the lock screen appears. It’s fine once I’ve entered my code to unlock it, albeit a bit sluggish. I did a soft reset, and also cleared the cache. Also the phone seems to freeze up and stop responding when trying to look at pictures via the gallery button (works fine if you go in through the camera).

Solution: For this particular issue you will need to check if a glitch in the phone software is causing the problem by doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete don’t install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then this could already be a hardware related problem in which case you should have your phone checked at a service center.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Charger Is Not Compatible Issue & Other Related Problems

If you’re looking for a smartphone to buy this holiday season as your backup phone then you might want to consider getting the #Samsung #Galaxy S5. Although this is a 2014 model it still works quite well with today’s apps since the phone has a great hardware architecture. While it’s not a top of the line model when compared to today’s devices it is a dependable phone that has proven itself as a solid daily driver. There are however instances when certain issues can occur on this phone which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 charger is not compatible issue & other related problems.

S5 Charger Is Not Compatible

Problem: I have a Galaxy S5.  It has been working fine until recently.  It started moving really slow and then when I tried charging it I am getting a message telling me that my charger is not compatible.  I have tried several chargers.  I did the safe mode thing and it worked for a few days but now I am back to getting that message again.   Now it won’t even work in Safe Mode.  What are my options?  I’ve read that I may need to do a factory reset but I am not sure on how to backup all my stuff.  I don’t want to lose my pictures, are they all saved to the sims card?  What to do?

Solution: Before doing a factory reset try cleaning the charging port of your phone first as dirt or debris stuck in this port can also cause this kind of issue. When cleaning the port you can use a can of compressed air. Once you have made sure that the port is clean and the issue still remains try charging the phone using a different charging cord, then a different charger if that fails.

To eliminate any battery related issues that can cause this problem you should also try using a new battery on your phone.

If the above steps fail then you should try doing the factory reset. To backup your phone data I suggest you use Kies or Smart Switch. These two are software programs made by Samsung which are to be installed in your computer.

If the factory rest still fails to fix the problem then we might be looking at a defective charging port. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center if this is the case.

S5 Not Charging After Phone Got Wet

Problem: Hi, I had accidentally dropped my phone in the bath, whilst it was full of water and I was able to take it out in less than 2 seconds and dried it off. But when I went to charge my phone it wouldn’t charge. When I did a soft reset it simply turned itself back on and sometimes it gives the notification of the battery symbol with the warning sign on it. I don’t know how to fix it.

Solution: What you need to do in this case is to make sure that the inside of the phone doesn’t have any moisture. Place the phone in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours. The rice will absorb any moisture inside the phone. Once this is done try checking if the issue still occurs. If it does then perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Replace the battery with a new one.
  • Make sure that the charging port of your phone is clean by cleaning it with a can of compressed air.
  • Try using a different charging cord when charging the phone.
  • Try using a different wall charger when charging the phone.

If the problem persists even after performing the steps listed above then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Battery Dies When Opening Apps

Problem: I noticed a couple of weeks ago that my battery was dying without any notification. Previously, it would indicate Low Battery at around 20% now there’s no indication; simply OFF. I can play factory installed games, talk, and text with little usage to battery but once I open any other app (apps installed from Play Store, email, or internet surfing), it immediately dies. The phone charges without issue and I have ordered a replacement battery. I want to be certain that nothing different could be going on.

Solution: This particular issue is usually caused by a weak battery. Replacing this battery with a new one usually does the trick. If the issue still occurs even after getting a new battery then this might be caused by a software glitch. Do the following troubleshooting steps listed below if this is the case.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then observe if the issue occurs. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Not Charging If On

Problem: Galaxy s5 does not charge while the phone is turned on. Fell into water, but was only submerged for a second, and was dried immediately. Later that evening the phone stopped charging. The prongs on the left side of the charging port were bent, but neither the original charger nor a regular micro usb charger would work. Factory reset did not help. The phone now charges when turned off, but sporadically. Symbol of a battery with a lightning bolt in it appears on screen for a second, then disappears and reappears several seconds later. Charging is very slow like this

Solution: If the prongs of the charging port are bent then this could contribute to the issue. Then there’s also the possibility that water could have entered the phone and is affecting some components inside. What you need to do first in this issue is to make sure that the phone is thoroughly dry by placing it in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours. The rice will absorb any moisture inside the phone. Once this is done try charging your phone. If it doesn’t charge then try replacing the battery with a new one. You should also try charging the phone using different charging cords and wall chargers.

If the above steps fail then I suggest that you have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Stuck In Reboot Mode

Problem: My Galaxy S5 seems to be stuck in ‘reboot’ mode – when the battery’s in, the phone vibrates and the black screen with the logo “galaxy s5” comes up for about one second, then the logo goes away to a black screen and the phone vibrates again. Within seconds, the phone goes through the whole process again.  I have removed battery, sim card and micro SD, tried to restart the phone in safe mode and got as far as my home screen before it went black again.  Please help!!! Thanks for your time.

Solution: Try getting a new battery and see if this fixes the problem. If it doesn’t then your other option is to do a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding with this step.

If the problem persists then you should consider flashing your phone with its updated firmware file. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: About a week ago my charger instead of charging started going down, after that then it stopped charging all at once. Now, it won’t charge unless I turn my phone off, and it’s not even charging at that. A lightning bolt appears, but it doesn’t have the red symbol noting it’s charging. I rece fly got a new battery and it’s still doing the same exact thing. So, I don’t know what to do. I tried blowing in the charging port, and plugging it into a PC. Nothing is working. Please, if you have any other things I can do to make it charge like it use to please help me.

Solution: You did the exact troubleshooting steps for this type of problem. Since the problem still occurs then this could already be caused by a damaged charging port or charging board. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Stopped Charging Issue & Other Related Problems

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 was once one of the best smartphones available in the market when it was released in 2014. Today there are still a lot of people using this model . It can now be bought at a discounted price which is quite a bargain since this device gets regular software updates. While a lot of people are using this as their daily driver without experiencing any issues there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 stopped charging issue & other related problems.

S5 Stopped Charging

Problem: My phone has stopped charging. This morning (11/24/16) my phone was charging just fine, however, almost 13-14 hours later my phone wont charge. It ended up dying but when i plugged it into another cord the charging symbol did not appear. After the phone died, plugged it into my computer where it would get the battery with the lightning bolt but that’s it. and it has been doing this for almost 15 minutes. The problem is not with any of the cords. I don’t know what to do.

Solution: If the phone responds when it is connected to the USB port of your computer then there might be an issue with the charging port of the device. This port has separate pins for fast charging ( wall charger), slow charging ( USB port), and data. What’s happening right now is that the fast charging pin might have an issue.

To fix this ty cleaning the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris that might be present in this port as this could interfere with the charging process.

Once the port is clean try charging the phone. If it doesn’t charge using a wall charger then do the following steps listed below.

  • Try using a different charging cord
  • Try using a different wall charger.
  • Replace the phone battery with a new one.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This is to eliminate any software glitches that could be causing this problem.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Not Original Charger Error

Problem: Alright so a couple weeks ago i’ve noticed my cable had to be in a particular place in order to charge my phone. Now it won’t actually charge at all with any cable. and then when i DO get it to make a connection it says that it’s not the original charger or cable and wont charge at all. I’m having to use an external battery charger to actually charge my phone. it’s really annoying. Is there anything i can use to fix this?

Solution: This is a similar issue to the one that we have tackled above since it appears that the problem is caused by a malfunctioning charging port. To troubleshoot this problem you should perform the following steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in this port as this could cause charging issues.
  • Try using different wall chargers.
  • Try using a new battery.
  • To eliminate any software glitches that could be causing this problem you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete try to check if the issue still occurs.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a damaged charging port. You should have this checked at a service center.

S5 Stuck On Boot Screen

Problem: My phone won’t turn on any further that Samsung s5 powered by android screen it just comes to that screen then vibrates….a small line goes across the screen and it either goes black or goes to the Samsung s5 powered by android screen again and just continues repeating this. I have tried all the hold this button and that button but getting nowhere. I don’t use the phone for calls anymore just run it on wifi and use it more like a tablet now, I am not even 100% sure if it is kitkat or lollipop it is on. Please help because I really could cry as I am lost without it

Solution: If your phone gets stuck on the boot screen then you should follow the troubleshooting steps listed below which aims to fix this problem.

  • Turn your phone off then take out the battery and the microSD card ( if you have one installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This action will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then check if the phone turns on.
  • Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Restart the phone then check if the problem is fixed.
  • Do a factory reset from the recovery mode. Take note that this deletes your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before doing this.

If the above steps fail then it’s possible that the phone software has been corrupted. If this is the case then you should consider flashing the phone with its updated firmware file. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: Hey Droid guy, my phone doesn’t want to charge AT ALL I have a Samsung s5, I tried all the methods you posted on your page but nothing seems to budge the powering on screen doesn’t seem to show up anymore and the phone charges but then immediately turns it off I see the empty power sign but it has absolutely no charge! Do I have to change the battery or should I buy a new phone?

Solution:  If you have already performed all of our recommended troubleshooting steps for this particular issue then you should definitely consider getting a new battery. If the battery that your phone has right now is defective then it could cause this problem which is why it’s best to try replacing it. If the same issue occurs even with a new battery installed then there’s a chance that this could already be caused by a malfunctioning internal component. I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center that’s capable of doing board level repairs.

S5 Keeps On Restarting

Problem: Hello, I bought a Galaxy S5 phone and constantly keeps restarting. What more, in the process of restarting, it can just freeze by itself and reboot again without the starting screen. I have flashed it twice and the power button changed by a technician all to no avail when I suspected those places to be the faults Also, when it finally restarts, it always says ‘sim card not from verizon’. Could it be the O.S or the processor? This is also because, when in use after a while, the entire phone warms up till it becomes very hot.  Kindly help since it’s just so frustrating. Solution: Since you already flashed the phone software ( you have to make sure that the firmware you flashed is compatible with your phone model) which doesn’t seem to work then the problem is most likely hardware related already. Try replacing the battery of your phone with a new one then see if this helps. If the problem persists then this could already be cause by a malfunctioning internal component. I suggest that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Does Not Start

Problem: I woke up this morning with my phone in factory mode not sure why or what happened and it sat that way for about 20 minutes it said do not cut off downloading… but now it’s turned off and now the battery is on 0% and when I plug it in I get a battery logo with a caution sign on it I’ve tried a few different chargers and now it has the correct charge logo just no green percentage and the screen lights up and goes away again back and forth

Solution: Try using a new battery on your phone as this appears to be a battery related problem. If the issue remains even with a new battery installed then I suggest that you try starting the phone in recovery mode. There are two troubleshooting steps that you can do in this mode. First, you can wipe the cache partition of your phone. This deletes the temporary system data of your phone. Second, you can do a factory reset. This allows you to check if a glitch in the phone software is causing the problem. Take note that if you do the reset your phone data will be erased so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding with this step.

S5 Powers Down On Its Own

Problem: My s5 will power down at 47% power then it will attempt to power back up only to show the Galaxy S5 logo then power down again repeating this over and over, when I plug in the power cord the battery indicator will now show the battery at 1% or nothing , once the battery power is over 50% the phone works fine, even without the power cable, oh one other thing the phone powers up to 100% just as fast as it powers down.

Solution: The first thing that you should do in this case is to suspect that the problem is caused by the phone battery. If this battery is already old and has undergone several charging cycles then it may not be able to hold a charge the way it used to. Try replacing the phone battery first and see if this resolves the problem. If it doesn’t then the most likely cause is a software issue. If this is the case then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: phone is plugged into wall the battery shows up on screen with a bolt on it saying its charging but no green is on the screen left alone for ten min came back and the battery on screen said 0% and at the bottom of the screen was a blinking green light is this my battery that is dead or is something wrong with the phone

Solution: It;s possible that this issue is caused by a faulty battery. Try getting a new battery and see if the issue goes away. If it doesn’t then the next thing you should do is to do a factory reset. This restores the phone software back to its original condition. Make sure to backup your phone data first before doing the reset as it will be deleted in the process.

S5 Does Not Turn On

Problem: My phone is not turning on. It’s got stuck where the ‘samsung’ light blinks. I tried taking the battery out and restarting but it’s not helping. I’m freaking out. What do I do now?

Solution: If your phone is stuck in the Samsung logo and does not proceed further then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step should the issue still persist.

  • Take out the phone battery and microSD card (If you have one installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery ( leave the microSD out first) then try to turn on the phone. If the phone turns on normally then you can now reinsert the microSD card.
  • Try using a new battery on your phone.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. If the phone starts normally in this mode then an app you installed could be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Start the phone in recovery mode then wipe the cache partition of your device.
  • Start the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding with this step.

S5 Not Recognizing Charger

Problem: Plug phone into a verified 2.4a charger with a verizon issued cable and I receive a warning that that I must plug into my original charger to get faster charging speeds. I charge all night and get 70-80%. Other charger won’t aren’t even recognized. Here are the steps i have taken to resolve this problem:

  1. Cleared cache partition
  2. Backed up and reset phone
  3. Have a 2.4a charger w/ verizon sent micro USB cables
  4. Purchased a new 3.85 V Li-ion Battery directly from Verizon
  5. Cleaned charging port with alcohol.

What do you suggest? Take it to Verizon? Thanks for your time

Solution: If you get a warning saying that you must use the original charger even if you are indeed using the original charger then this means that the phone is detecting that that an incorrect amount of power is reaching it. Since you have already done some of the preliminary troubleshooting steps that needs to be done in this kind of scenario is to try using different charging cords and see if the problem gets resolved. These charging cords gets damaged easily and the one you are using might be damaged already. If the issue still occurs then the problem could be caused by a faulty charging port or power IC of your device. If this is the case I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Battery Drains Quickly

Problem: Hello, I am having trouble keeping my phone charged all day. I recently replaced the battery thinking it was the problem, but the power continues to drain quickly. The brightness on my phone is pretty low and I frequently close open apps. Can you please help me? I really do like my phone, and I’m not up for an upgrade until late November. Thanks

Solution: Since you already isolated the battery as a possible factor that could be causing this problem then the next step is to suspect the phone software as a suspect. Below are the recommended troubleshooting steps that you should do in cases such as this. Move to the next step should the issue still occur.

  • Start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This deletes the temporary data in your device which could be causing the problem. Check if the issue still occurs.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. Observe if the battery drain problem occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded and installed in the phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Won’t Charge

Problem: My phone wouldn’t charge anymore. I thought it was the battery. When the phone was off and I plugged in the charger a yellow caution sign over a battery will pop up. It will charge sometimes, but it would always glitch, idk. I bought a new battery, two to be exact and it still won’t charge them properly. It’s not the battery. I don’t know if that app has messed it up, or if it is a software bug. Possibly damage to the port? I’m lost here and I don’t know. I’ve tried two chargers and they both do the same thing. Half the time work.

Solution: Since you already tried using new batteries to no effect the next thing you should do is to check the charging port and charger. Clean the charging port using a can of compressed air or by blowing to it using a straw. This will take out any dirt or debris that could be stuck in the port. You should also try using a different charger and charging cable when charging the phone.

If the issue still occurs then try checking if the phone software is causing this problem. If you are able to backup your phone data then do it now. Once the backup is complete do a factory reset. Check if the issue still occurs.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Only Charges With Samsung Charger

Problem: My phone will only charge using the Samsung home charger. It won’t charge using ANY other phone cord with wall plug in. It was working before I used the AUX cord in my car stereo in my phone to listen to Pandora!! I tried removing the battery, etc, and the other cords/plugs won’t work!! What do I do??

Solution:  Try cleaning the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. If the issue still persist then you should try backing up your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Will Not Charge

Problem: The phone will not charge and the battery sign shows up with a caution symbol over it. I believe the charger I used may have been damp and caused an issue but I am not sure where to go from here. The phone was still working completely fine until it ran out of battery.

Solution: The caution symbol over the battery means that it is not communicating with your phone. There are various reasons why this can occur on a device which we will tackle below. Perform the troubleshooting steps listed below, move to the next step if the current step fails to resolve the issue.

  • Take out the battery from the phone. Clean the battery contacts using an eraser. Do the same with the battery pins of the phone. Take care not to bend the pins. You should also clean the phone charging port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Reinsert the battery then check if the issue still occurs.
  • Check the battery if it is water damaged. To do this just look at the sticker located on the metal contact side. This sticker should be white. If it is red, pink or purple then the battery is water damaged. If this is the case you need to replace the battery.
  • Try using a different battery.
  • Try using a different charger.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the problem still occurs even after performing the steps listed above then you should have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: Hi,  over the past few weeks I noticed my phone was getting really hot and glitching/being slow. The other day I tried charging my phone and saw that it wouldn’t charge or show any signs that it was connected to a charger. My battery died eventually. There’s no water damage according to the sticker. My friend has the same phone so I borrowed her battery and my phone was working fine. She put my battery in her phone and charged it up just fine. Then she tried using her charger to charge my phone and it wouldn’t work. So I think the battery is fine. I’ve tried putting in recovery mode but the process won’t work at all. (Volume + button, home, and power)

Solution: The issue could be with the charging port of your phone. Turn off the phone and take out the battery. Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. This will take out any dirt or debris which could be present in the port and could be causing the problem. Try to check if the phone will charge.

If the issue still persist then the next step is to check if the phone software is causing this problem. Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done check if you are able to charge the phone.

If the above steps fail to resolve the problem the this could already be caused by a defective charging port or a faulty power IC. I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center.

S5 Is Dead Does Not Charge

Problem: The phone is dead with no signs of charging. I suspect this is because overnight I plugged it into a non-USB 3 receptacle (the thing with the actual electrical prongs you plug the USB into). I didn’t look to see if it was charging. In any case, I cannot charge it even now using different sources. This is the first real trouble I’ve had with this phone in two years.

Solution: Try using a different battery on your phone. This way you eliminate the possibility that the battery is causing the problem. If the issue still remains even with the new battery then try to clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol then connect the wall charger and charge the phone for at least 20 minutes before turning on the device.

If the above steps fail to resolve the issue then have the phone checked at an authorized service center as this may already be a hardware related issue.

S5 Will Not Charge

Problem: my phone worked well… until this other day, when I took it out and saw the words “Downloading… do not turn off target” panicked by the heading i removed the battery since i wasn’t familiar with whatever that was happening…  ever since that moment,.. no matter where/how i plugged in my phone, it just wouldn’t charge… any help in solving this issue would be much appreciated.

Solution: When you see the “Downloading.. Do not turn off target”  message in your device it is getting software updates. Since this got interrupted then issue such as this could happen. What you want to do right now is to take out the battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then check if you are able to charge the phone.

If you are still unable to charge the phone then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step if the step you performed does not solve the issue.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. What you want to do is to take out any dirt or debris that may be present in the port which could be causing the issue.
  • Try charging your phone using a different charging cord.
  • Try charging the phone using a different wall charger.
  • Replace your phone battery.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the problem still occurs after performing the steps above then you should have you phone checked at an authorized service center.

S5 Charged Overnight Does Not Turn On

Problem: Hi, I charged my Samsung S5 G900F overnight , the next when I wanted to power on it has no respond and won’t turn on . Have tried to remove battery and performed hard reset but it failed. I noticed the phone is very warm when the battery is placed inside. Please help . Many Thanks.

Solution: Try taking out the battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This action discharges the phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then try to turn on the phone.

If the phone does not turn on then try using a new battery.

If the above steps fail to resolve the issue I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center.

S5 Stuck In Boot Loop Unless Connected To Charger

Problem: Okay, so my galaxy s5 continues  to reboot it’s starts up says Samsung galaxy s5 and the turns off and does it again,  now the reason why  I can’t find an answer on any forums  is that it does not turn off or reboot if it is plugged in and charging. There are no charging issues, it charges perfectly. But if it was a hardware issue I think it would still do it when it was charging. If you could help me solve my issue I’d really appreciate  it.

Solution: There are two things that you need to do to resolve this issue. The first step that you should do is to get a new battery and see if this fixes the problem. Sometimes if the battery is not providing the correct power to the phone issues such as this can occur which is what we want to check. If the problem still remains even with a new battery then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to resolve the problem then I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Won’t Charge

Problem: my phone wont charge at all. i had my loud speaker fixed today and before that it was charging and now after i had it fixed my phone wont charge at all. i have tried taking my case off and using another charger and it still doesnt charge. Have they stuffed it up and what could they have done wrong? any ideas how i can fix the problem myself before i take it back to the shop tomorrow? thanks

Solution: If your phone was charging just fine before the loudspeaker was replaced then this problem could be caused by some procedure done during the replacement process. To check if other factors are involved try cleaning the charging port of your phone first using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. You should also try using another charging cord when charging your phone as this cord usually gets damaged easily.

One last troubleshooting step that you should do is a factory reset to eliminate any software related issues that could be causing this problem. Take note that this will delete all your phone data so make sure to backup your phone data first.

If the problem still persists then I suggest you bring back your phone to the shop.

S5 Yellow Exclamation Mark Appears When Charging

Problem: My phone ran out of battery and when I try to charge it up a yellow exclamation mark appears. The phone was working fine. I don’t know what the problem is. thanks in advance for your help

Related Problem: Hi there, First off, THANK YOU for allowing this option for random people to email their issues and beg for mercy.  Today, I decided it was time to remove my S5 from it’s Otterbox hardshell case and give it a cleaning.  Like usual, I removed the rubber lining then the plastic shell and then I removed the back cover to my S5 and proceeded to remove the battery.  i gave everything a quick wipe, ensuring not to damage anything. I then began reassembling the phone and and case.  Upon booting it up I realized all my apps that needed to be updated were updating, no big deal, this is usually the case.  Not sure if this causes the issue (which I’m getting by the way.)   Now, my night time routine follows.  I set my alarm, plug my phone and go to sleep.  Only this time, I realize that my phone isn’t charging.  It continues to attempt to charge and go to a battery sign with a yellow “”hazzard sign”” in the middle.   Please help… I’m praying it’s a software issue, or some sort of “easy fix”. Thank You

Solution:  The yellow exclamation mark that appears on the phone display means that your phone is not charging properly. There are several factors that can cause this issue which include a bad battery, bad phone charging port, defective charger, or a glitch in the phone software.

The first thing you need to do in this case is to turn off your phone and take out the battery. Check the battery if it has any visible signs of defects such as bulging. Replace the battery if it shows signs of defects. If the battery looks fine then press and hold the power button for at least a minute first before reinserting the battery. Turn on your phone then try to charge it with its wall charger.

If the issue persists then try to clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. A dirty port can usually cause this type of problem which is what we want to avoid. While you are cleaning the port you should also check it for any signs of physical damage.

Try to charge your phone using a different charging cord and wall charger.

If the problem persists then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This will eliminate any software related issues that could be causing the problem.

If at this point the problem remains unresolved then try replacing your battery.

Your last resort is to bring the phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Does Not Charge After Getting Wet

Problem: After spilling iced tea on my phone by accident, my phone will not charge. The screen works perfectly fine but I cannot charge it properly now. It goes in and out from charging.

Solution: It’s very likely that your phone may have suffered from liquid damage when you spilled iced tea on it. The first thing that you should do in this case is to check the phone battery LDI or liquid damage indicator. Take out the battery from your phone then check the sticker on the bottom side just to the right side of the metal contacts. If it turns solid pink, red, or purple then your device has been affected by water.  If this is the case then you should place your phone in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours. This will absorb the moisture inside your phone. Once 48 hours have passed get a new battery and insert it in your phone. Check if the phone charges with the new battery. If it doesn’t then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

In case the LDI is normal then what you should do is to clean the phone charging port using a can of compressed air or a cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Once this is done try charging your phone with a different charging cord and wall charger.

S5 Does Not Turn On After Charging Overnight

Problem: Hello! thank you for taking your time to try to help solve this problem. I plugged my S5 into the charger last night. everything was normal. it was charging. when i woke up it wasn’t on. the battery felt overheated so i took it out and let it cool for about 30 minutes. still wouldn’t turn on. i tried plugging the phone in without the battery, still no luck. any suggestions?

Related Problem: Charged it overnight noticed blue light was on this morning.  Tried to turn phone on, but nothing happens, no lights no sounds.  Followed directions for taking out and replacing battery.  Tried the soft reboot.  Nothing!  Any help very much appreciated.

Solution: Here’s what you need to do first. Take out the battery and the microSD card (if you have one installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges the phone circuit and clears out the RAM. Reinsert the phone battery then try to turn on your phone.

If it still does not turn on then inspect the charging port of your phone. Clean it if necessary using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Charge your phone using another charging cord and wall charger for at least 20 minutes before turning it on.

If the problem persists then try to start your phone in recovery mode. If you can access this mode then you should wipe the cache partition of your phone first. If this does not help then do a factory reset from this mode. Take note that this will delete your phone data.

If the problem remains unresolved then try getting a new battery.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: So I have a fairly new Samsung galaxy s5 until recently when the charging flap snapped off. Now whenever i charge my phone the battery goes down. It was on 57% when I went to bed last night and now it’s on 24%. How can I stop this?

Solution: Your phone may not be charging properly which is why it is acting this way. Try cleaning the charging port of your phone first using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. When charging your phone use a different charging cable and wall charger. If the problem still persists then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it  checked.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Having Difficulty Charging Issue & Other Related Problems

Whenever a phone battery becomes drained the first thing that an owner does is to charge the device. The #Samsung Galaxy#S5 for example with its 2800 mAh battery can provide up to 27 hours of 3G talk time, 9 hours of web browsing, and 11 hours of video playback before needing a recharge. This is quite impressive as most smartphones available in the market are notorious for having battery life issues.

Samsung Galaxy S5

Some owners of this model however are having a problem when the time comes to charge their phone. Sometimes the device does not charge or takes a long time to charge. This is what we will aim to resolve today as we tackle the Galaxy S5 having difficulty charging issue & other related problems.

If you own a Samsung Galaxy S5  or any other Android device for that matter then feel free to contact us using this form. We will be more than happy to assist you with any concern that you may have with your device. This is a free service we are offering with no strings attached. S5 Having Difficulty Charging

Problem: My phone has been having difficulty charging. When I plug it in, I have to angle the cord just right, or it won’t charge at all. When it does charge, it takes much longer than usual. I tried taking battery out and rebooting it as well as multiple cords. Thank you!

Solution: Usually if you need to position the charging cord in a certain way to charge the phone properly the problem is caused by the cord itself. There may be some cut wire inside the cord which usually happens when it is constantly bent or coiled. Since you already tried using multiple charging cords then we can eliminate this as the possible cause of the problem.

The next thing that you should do is to check the charging port of your phone if it has any presence of dirt or debris. If necessary, clean this port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

If the problem still persists then this could already be caused by a faulty charging port. Before bringing your phone to an authorized service center for further checking you should try to backup your phone data and do a factory reset first. This is to eliminate the possibility of the problem being caused by a software issue.

S5 Taking Hours To Fully Charge

Problem: My galaxy s5 is taking hours to fully charge. Once it does reach 100% and I unplug it, the battery drains completely within 3-4 hours even if the phone is not in use. I am using the correct charger and charging block. I have also already purchased a new battery. When changing the battery didn’t work, I did a factory reset and that didn’t work either. The phone is still dying after getting correct chargers, a new battery, and a factory reset. What else could be the problem?

Solution: Have you tried checking if your phone is getting warm? This can be a sign that there may be a shorted circuit somewhere in the device which is draining the battery life. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. Have the charging port checked first as this could be causing the problem.

S5 Does Not Charge When Turned On

Problem: My phone wont charge if turned on. I am having this problem for 2 days now. The only time my phone is charging when it is turned off. When it is turned on, the battery percentage is going down instead of going up. Please help.

Related Problem: phone only charges when it’s off, and SUPER slow when it’s off and charging

Solution: Before doing any troubleshooting make sure that you are using the wall charger that came with your phone. Sometimes if you use a third party charger that has not been certified to work with this phone this type of problem can occur. You should also make sure that the charging port of the phone is free of any dirt or debris.

To start the troubleshooting try getting another battery. A faulty battery is known to cause this kind of problem so it’s best to check on this first.

If the problem still persists then you should check if this is caused by a software problem by backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: Hello! I had the “power sharing” pop-up and my battery stopped to recharge… It was very difficult to charge, but sometimes, during charging, the battery jumped from 18% to 53 in 10min (for ex.).  Even the PC didn’t recognize the USB so I couldn’t transfer my documents to the computer. The last time, I tried to charge when it was around 18% and with the charger on, it kept going down very quickly and the mobile was burning, even when it was off.I did the “safe mode instructions” before, but the phone turned on all by himself. Now it doesn’t turn on anymore and I don’t know what to do 🙁 Thank you for the attention and it was the only website I found something about the problem. I hope you can help me..

Solution: It looks like the phone battery did not charge which is why your phone does not turn on. Try to use a different charging cord when charging the phone. The cord you are using may already be defective and is causing the problem. You should also try to use a different wall charger.

If the problem still occurs then proceed with checking the charging port of your phone. Does it have any dirt or debris present? If it does then clean it using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

Another possible factor that should not be overlooked is a defective battery. Try to get a new battery then check if the issue gets resolved.

S5 Charges Slow After Accidentally Dropped

Problem: Hey droidguy, so i’m having problems with my phone when it’s charging and i’m 100% sure it’s not the charger that’s working because i tried over 5 different S5 chargers. It started not working when i accidentally dropped it. Every time i turn off my phone and charge it it starts charging but very strange and slow.  While it charges like that my phone buzzes every 7 seconds while showing the charging logo at the same time.  But when i charge it when it’s on it does not charge at all.  Please help and reply asap!

Solution: If this problem occured right after you dropped the phone then there’s a big possibility that this is already a hardware related problem. You should however check the other factors that can cause this problem such as a defective charger ( you need to try using a different charging cable and different wall charger) or a faulty phone battery ( you will need to get a new battery). A dirty charging port can also cause this issue. If this is the case then clean it using a can of compressed air or cotton bud.

Then there’s also the possibility that this could be caused by a glitch in the phone software. If this is the case then I suggest you backup your phone data and so a factory reset.

If the issue still occurs after doing all of the troubleshooting steps above then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Battery Drains Fast

Problem: hi there i have a problem with my samsung galaxy s5 that i charge it all the night and in the morning i checked the battery . it was 100% then i disconnect it from charging and put it on the table and when i was want to go to the school it was 26% what i have to do

Solution: There’s a possibility that this could be caused by a faulty battery. Before getting a new battery though you should backup your phone data and do a factory reset to eliminate the possibility of this issue being caused by a software problem.

S5 Intermittent Charging

Problem: i recently updated my galaxy s5 to android 5.0, immediately after the update, the battery icon keeps displaying charging then not charging, with the danger icon coming up in the battery icon and disappearing thus causing serious battery drain on my device as the battery drains off quickly. i have tried everything and the problem still persists. Please how can i fix this.

Solution: In most case this problem is caused by a defective charging cord. Try using a different charging cord and see if this fixes the issue. If it doesn’t then try checking the charging port of your phone for any signs of dirt or debris. If necessary clean the port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

A faulty battery can also cause this type of issue. You should eliminate this possibility be trying a new battery on your phone.

If the issue still persists then you should backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the issue then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Not Charging Issue & Other Power Related Problems

S5 Use The Original Cord & Charger To Receive Faster Charging Error

Problem: Sudden appearance of Pop.up stated “use the original cord & Charger to receive faster charging” began when on & plugged in.  I turned off, that night it only charged 56%!!! I’m freaked about it.  1st Pop.up appears whether on or off.  If cord isn’t just right (like in a straight line, etc)  will not charge. 2nd. Declining charge received per charge. 3rd charge Held for declining amt. of time (26% gone in under an hour).  4th Afraid I’m frying equipment  (battery, charger, cord, ?software?). 5th I am a recent widow (husband was paralyzed & had CKD, both medical accidents) & I’ve just received dx of kidney failure too, only 56!  Thus. Med Testing now & can’t work…phone under warranty, pd insurance yet Verizon recommends I sent cell to Samsung.  2.5 wk turnaround.  Didn’t drop, get wet etc. 1 yr on 12/22/15. PLEASE HELP (LOST 10% Power while typing!  Thank you very much.

Solution: One of the main factors that causes this problem is the incorrect voltage/current supplied by the charger to your device. This usually happens if you are not using the original charger that came with your phone.

However, there are also cases when even if you are using the original phone charge this error message still occurs. In cases such as this the first thing that you should check is the USB charging cord that you are using. This cord breaks easily especially if it is constantly bent or coiled. The fact that the phone charges only  when the cord is positioned in a straight line increases the chances that the USB cord you are using is already defective. Try changing this cord and see if this resolves the issue.

If the problem persists the next thing you should do is to check your phone charger port for any signs of dirt or debris. If necessary clean this using a can of compressed air or a cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

If you have another wall charger available then you can use this as well to check if your phone charges with it.

One other factor that can cause this problem is a glitch in your phone software. If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the issue then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Does Not Charge Or Turn On

Problem: I was using my phone last night (11/27/2015) and when I awoke this morning it would not turn on or charge.  It worked perfectly before hand and I have tried all your steps to fix it and it does not seem to be working.

Solution: If you already performed all of the necessary steps that we have recommended to fix this issue then this may already be a hardware related problem. Try changing your phone battery and see if this works. If it doesn’t then you need to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it fixed.

S5 Not Charging

Problem: Phone won’t charge. Showed the sharing power app message. And I don’t know what to do.

Solution: The power sharing app is a new app introduced by Samsung that allows your phone to share its power with another device while using the Samsung power sharing cable. Do you have his app installed in your phone? If you do then try to uninstall it and check if your phone will now charge.

If the problem still persists then try using a different USB cord when charging your phone.

One final troubleshooting step that you can do is to do a factory reset using the phone hardware keys. Make sure to backup your phone data before proceeding. Once the reset is complete try to check if you can now charge your device normally.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: My phone will not charge. It has a caution sign.Every time I plug in a charger it show the caution sign. I tried  taking out the battery and charging over night .And when it did work that battery would be at 29 then I’ll pull out the battery and It would  be at 19% .Thank you.

Solution: It looks like your phone may already have a bad battery. You should however check first if the phone software has anything to do with this issue by backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset. This reverts your phone software back to its original condition. Try charging your phone after the reset then check if the issue still occurs.

If the problem persists then you should try to change the battery of your phone.

S5 Does Not Turn On

Problem: my alarm went off this morning then after turning it off, i let my phone sit before trying to use it. I saw that the notification light was flashing so i tried to turn it on to see what the notification was and my phone would not turn on. i tried to take out my battery but that did not work. my phone is still unresponsive

Solution: Try taking out your battery again as well as the microSD card if you have one installed. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges your phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then try to turn on your phone. If you still get no response try charging your phone using its wall charger for at least 20 minutes then attempt to turn on your phone again.

If the problem persists then you should try using another battery on your phone and see if it works.

S5 Does Not Turn On After Uninstalling App

Problem: Woke up in the morning and phone was working fine. I have a 360 Security app installed and “boost charge” was running. I decided it was annoying so i decided to disable it. Next second the touch screen was not working. I have encountered this before so i tried to restart the phone. Couldn’t do that because the touch screen would not work. So i removed the battery. Put the battery back in and nothing. No light. Phone feels as if it has bricked. I have tried all the troubleshooting ideas. None are working.

Solution: Try starting your phone in recovery mode then wipe the cache partition of your device. You should be able to use the touchscreen in recovery mode. If you are unable to use the touchscreen then it’s very likely that the digitizer of your phone may already be defective. You need to have this replaced at an authorized service center.

If however the touchscreen works in recovery mode but then wiping the cache partition does not resolve the problem then you need to consider doing a factory reset. Take note that this procedure will delete the data stored in your device. Make sure to do this if you have recently made a backup of your phone data.
