S5 Not Turning On After Overnight Charge
Problem: My sister has an S5, she was charging the phone while we were chatting. After an hour of chatting, she left her phone charged the whole night. When she tried to turn on her phone, it will not turn on, she removed the battery and put it back after 10 mins, tried to turn it on again to no avail. She brought it to a Samsung dealer and was told that it’s her mother board that is not working because she was told that she was using the phone while charging. Never heard about this problem. Hoping for an answer from the experts. BTW, I bought her the phone used from Ebay last Oct and it looks new.
Solution: One of the many myths that we have heard regarding a smartphone is that it will get damaged if it is being used while charging. While it’s possible that this could happen if let’s say the charging cord has a cut wire and this causes a short circuit if you use the phone this is still a very remote possibility. The only sure thing that will happen if you use your phone while it is charging is that it will take a longer time for the battery to reach 100%.
Regarding this problem you should first try to replace the battery with a new one as the battery might have been damaged by the overnight charging. This usually happens if the circuit controlling the charging process can’t detect that the battery is already fully charged and is still constantly supplying charge to the battery.
If replacing the battery doesn’t work then the problem could either be caused by burned power IC or charging IC. You should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked. If the problem is caused by either of the two then it can easily be replaced by a technician.
S5 Screen Does Not Turn On
Problem: Hi there! I have never had any issues with my phone until last nite. For some reason the only thing I did different was take out my battery while the phone was still on. When I put the battery back in the screen remained black!! The multi window as well as the back button light up. I am also able to hear all of my notifications go off. It will also ring for a phone call, and sometimes I am able to answer it. Please help!! A soft reset has not been successful,, as I can not see anything displayed on the screen!
Solution: If you are getting notifications and calls then chances are the problem is caused by a faulty display assembly. To check if this is the case try to follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Remove the battery and microSD card ( if your phone has one installed) then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then turn on your phone.
- Check if your phone can start in recovery mode. If the display works in this mode then you should consider doing a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is very likely a display related issue already. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.
S5 Does Not Charge
Problem: I had went to plug my phone into the wall outlet today and when I plugged it in it would not charge. I tried blowing out the ports, resetting the phone and plugging it into a different wall outlet, nothing worked. So I finally plugged it into my laptop which worked. I went out to my truck to get my spare charging cable, thinking it was a cable issue and when I plugged it into the original plug adapter it still didn’t work. Then I got my original cord and plugged it into a spare adapter and now it is charging. To me it sounds like the original fast charger adapter, the one that came with the phone, went bad. I am no wiz at electronics so can you please confirm this for me? If it is something else do you have any advisement?
Solution: The problem is either caused by a bad charging cord, which can easily be fixed by using a new cord, or a faulty charging port. If the issue is caused by the charging port then you will need to have this checked at a service center. If this port is proven to be causing the problem then you will have to get this replaced.
S5 Flashes Boot Logo Unless Plugged To Charger
Problem: Hello, While watching some anime my phone suddenly shut off and acted like its going to restart. Ever since then it flashes the boot logo every five seconds unless it is plugged into my charger. When plugged in it’s at 100% and has no issues and works perfectly but as soon as I unplug it, it starts doing the logo flash thing. Please help. Thanks, Jasmine
Solution: There are two things that you need to do in this particular case. You will need to check if the phone software is causing the problem and you should also check if the battery is causing the problem. To do this just do the troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs.
- Replace the battery with a new one.
If the problem still occurs even after performing the steps listed above then this is very likely caused by a defective power IC of the phone. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.
S5 Only Charges In Car
Problem: My Samsung Galaxy S5 will charge easily in my car, but not from a USB charger attached to household current or my computer. The charge icon is lit, but the battery still drains. I have tried several cords and chargers, removed and replaced the battery, tried charging with the phone off, all with no luck. It is an intermittent problem so sometimes everything works just fine.
Solution: Try cleaning the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air as dirt or debris present in the port can cause this kind of problem. If the issue remains then this could be caused by a faulty charging port. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.
S5 Not Turning On
Problem: Phone has just died. alarm went off and I switched it off using my Samsung Gear Fit2. Checked my phone 10 minutes later and is was dead. Followed all the steps in your tutorial and nothing, no vibration, noise, any signs of life. Tried another battery, nothing. confirmed my battery was 96% full. Not under warranty as over a year old.
Solution: If replacing the battery doesn’t work then this could be caused by an internal component of the phone that is failing to work. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.
S5 Not Charging Has power Sharing App Error
Problem: hi, Since today morning my phone stopped charging suddenly. It is showing me the pop up ‘power sharing app’. I have reboot the phone in safe mode too as well as i have removed the battery and reinsert t. but nothing helps. and now my phone is fully discharged. is is not even on. Please help me what should i do?
Solution: The power sharing app allows your phone to charge other devices connected to it from its charging port. You will however need a special cable to do this. If your phone does not have the app installed or if you are not using this special cable then the issue could be caused by a faulty charging port. Try cleaning the charging port using a can of compressed air making sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in the port. If the issue still remains after this then you should have the charging port checked at a service center. If the port is causing the problem then it’s best if you have this replaced.
