S5 Isn’t Receiving All Texts

Problem: My phone isn’t receiving all texts. Sometimes it’s the first text from someone and other times it’s in mid conversation. This just started 2 weeks ago after I left the country and then came back. No problems before then. It’s not the same people all the time and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Bell told me it’s not the network. They said the messages are showing in the log as received but my phone isn’t accepting some of them indicating that it’s hardware related. They said try a factory reset. I’ve tried the soft reset but not the hard yet.

Related Problem: For the past couple days I have not been receiving all text from various people. It’s off and on. With my boyfriend I noticed it the most since he’s the one I’m typically talking to you. I’ll receive one or two messages from him but then not some. And he’s not receiving all of my texts from me either. But I’ve also noticed some of my coworkers not receiving my messages either or they will have sent me a message and I didn’t receive it.

Related Problem: My phone has been not receiving random text messages for months now. I can’t figure out a pattern, it seems to be completely random. It doesn’t seem to be from any specific phone/carrier as several people have told me that they text me and I never received the message (although most have been iphones). A lot of times if they send multiple messages at once, I won’t get the first one, but will get the others, so I don’t think it’s a problem of having cell reception. Any thoughts/ideas? Thank you for your help!

Solution: If the network is working fine then you will have to concentrate the troubleshooting on the phone side. Try checking first if the problem is caused by an app you downloaded by starting the phone in Safe Mode. If you are receiving all text messages while the phone operates in this mode then the problem could be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue occurs even in Safe Mode then you should consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

S5 Not Receiving All Text Messages

Problem: Every so often, I won’t receive a text message that I confirmed with the sender as successfully being sent. It’s not every message and it’s not only one person. It’s seemingly random as to which texts I’ll receive. I’ve tried resetting my phone but the issue still occurs. The missing messages are in group conversations as well as single person, and from both other Android users and iPhones. I use the standard messaging app installed on all Android systems. It’s getting really annoying.

Solution: Since you already tried doing a reset which fails to fix the problem try checking if the problem is network related. Try checking if the issue occurs in a particular area. If it does then there might be some network issues in your area.

You should also check if the problem is caused by the phone SIM. Try replacing the SIM and check if the same issue occurs.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Needs To Toggle Airplane Mode To Send Text Message

Problem: My service keeps cutting in and out. It will show that i have service, but when i try and send a text, it will tell me i have no mobile data at this time. So i turn on airplane mode for a second and then turn it back off and my service will be back to normal again. Very frustrating, especially because i have a job that has me on call a lot.

Solution: Since the signal seems to cut out whenever you try to send a text message then you should try to wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. If the issue still remains after this then you should backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

S5 Cannot Send Or Receive MMS

Problem: I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy 5 phone that is now being used on the AT&T network. I have called AT&T and set up all the settings for messaging as well as calls and data. I am unable to send or receive MMS messages through the messages program on the phone. I can use Google Hangouts to send and receive MMS. I have called AT&T and ask them to check the settings they have and they stated that they cannot guarantee that all functions will work on a non AT&T phone used on their Network. Are there any workarounds to fix this short of having to use Hangouts to send and receive MMS.

Related Problem: Samsung galaxy S5 at&t recently purchased and put on straight talk byop with their at&t sim card. No pic messaging getting thru, regular text and calls work. Having issues with finding the correct apn set up, used my old S4 Active settings and it tries to download pic message, but fails. Thank you

Related Problem: Hi, I just switched from Verizon to T-Mobile.  I kept my Verizon – Galaxy S5 to use on the T-Mobile network, but I cannot send or receive MMS messages (group messages or pictures).  Is there a way to do MMS messages in this situation? Thanks!

Solution: Whenever MMS sending fails to send or receive on a phone that is being used on a different network the first thing that you should check is the APN setting of your device. Make sure that the settings in not of the original network but of the new network.

S5 Text Message Sending Failed

Problem: I can get a text, but wen I try to respond I get a message on mine saying failed and circled exclamation sign and when you click it says cancel or retire I’ve tried that a soft reset and everything my tech support thought of all them ## and number codes they checked my network towers in my area are fine even my data. Still can’t make a text. If there’s anything you can do to help my temporary problem this is my backup con o shoots n ladders I never said what phone I have It’s a galaxy Gs5 but I did do a system update if that helps any but kinda need a solution it my new comes Back I’m very sick and if I need a Dr I text her and we web chat but all I know is I can’t text to her refills…so no pressure any help is appreciated..

Solution: Have you tried checking the message center number of your phone? Make sure that this number matches the one your network is using. To check if an app you downloaded is prevented you from sending a text message you should start the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone operates in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. Try sending a text message. If you are able to send a message then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue occurs even in Safe Mode then I recommend that you backup your phone data and do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete don’t install any apps yet. Try checking if you are able to send out a text message.

Should the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should try getting a new SIM card as the problem could be caused by the SIM.

S5 Cannot Send Or Receive MMS

Problem: Hello, First I must say what a good thing you are doing here helping people with these questions. Anyways I bought a refurbished Samsung galaxy 5 (sm-g900v). It is cdma unlocked good on gsm networks. I have h2o wireless with working 4g mobile data. I’ve been in countless forums to no avail I still cannot send or receive mms (picture messages). I’ve used many different apn settings that still allow my data to work but nothing helps with picture messages. Do you guys have any more tips or ideas I’ve tried all your previous suggestions I’ve seen in this forum as many others. Thank you so much

Solution: Have you tried clearing the cache and data of the messaging app then try sending an MMS? You should also try sending an MMS while the phone is in Safe Mode. If you are able to send an MMS then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. Another step you should consider is to do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. If after the reset the issue still persists then you should consider downloading a third party messaging app that allows for picture messages to be sent.

S5 Not Sending Or Receiving Text Messages After Software Update

Problem: My Samsung Galaxy s5 ever since it updated .. it’s been running slower… but my two major issues are it doesn’t allow me to send or receive any picture messages… it also doesn’t allow my mobile data to kick in while I’m not around wifi… it’s very frustrating. . I have Google how to foxed everything it tells me to do its on already. How do I fixed these major issues I’m having . My plan is unlimited Internet so I know I should have mobile data when not around wifi but it won’t kick in. Please help me with these two major issues . I want to be able to send pictures through text messaging and can’t send or receive. .. it just keeps trying or keeps saying download. Please email me back solving the issues thank you

Solution: Since this issue occured right after a software update I recommend that you check the APN settings of your device first. Make sure that it matches the settings that your network is using. If necessary correct the APN settings of your phone if needed.

If your phone already has the correct APN settings and you still are unable to send or receive a picture message then I recommend that you do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

S5 Doesn’t Always Receive Text Messages

Problem: My Samsung S5 doesn’t always receive texts. Doesn’t matter the Cell phone or carrier. It’s not even that i eventually get the message, I never get it. My friends  will end up messaging me on Snapchat or Facebook messenger wondering why I didn’t respond to their text. Sometimes it’ll be in the middle of a texting conversation. I called Bell (my provider) and they don’t know any show any issues with my texting. My friends with iPhones know to text and not to iMessage so that’s not the issue. Any help would be great. Thank you.

Solution: The first thing that you should do in this case is to check if you have blocked any number from texting you. Remove the numbers from the block list if needed.

If you don’t have any number in the block list then do the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Turn off your phone then remove the battery and SIM. Wait for a minute before reinserting the battery and SIM. This will re-establish the connection between the phone and the network.
  • Clear the cache and data of the messaging app.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Not Sending Text Message to Special Numbers

Problem: My new employer told me i needed to set up my text to receive job info. I need to be able to receive text from a number that does not have as many numbers in it as a phone number does. This is what I was to do. : For the recipient enter 292929 In the message enter TLG then sent. I get an error code 0 And it says “failed to send” She does this with all new employees and doesn’t know why it wont send for me. Can you help? I have a galaxy s5

Solution: This issue could be caused by a permission setting in the messaging app. Go to Settings- More- Application Manager- All tab- Messaging. Under permissions on send premium SMS set it to “Always Allow” or “Ask”.
