Samsung Galaxy S5 Only Charges When Turned Off Issue & Other Related Problems

A smartphone can be one of the most important devices that you should bring wherever you are however its usefulness depends on whether it has sufficient battery power. Once the battery gets drained then the device is useless. The good thing is that if there is no available power outlet to plug the wall charger you can use a powerbank to charge the phone. The #Samsung Galaxy #S5 for instance is able to get a full charge on its 2800 mAh battery in just a few hours.

S5 Only Charges When Turned Off

Problem: My phone will only charge while turned off, or when in Safe Mode. Otherwise, if I try to charge it while the phone is on, it indicates that it’s charging, but the battery drains anyway. I’ve tried changing the cable. I did a soft reboot (removing the battery for 30 seconds). Neither of those helped. I also checked the battery usage and didn’t see anything unusual there. Facebook using 7% was the highest thing in the list. I’m afraid that I’ll need to do a factory reset, but I wanted to check with you first before doing that. Thanks.

Solution: A factory reset is one of the steps that needs to be done to resolve this issue. However, since all of your data will be lost in the process it’s going to take some time to restore the data and install your apps.

If you have an extra battery available then try using this in your phone since sometimes this causes the problem. You should also check the charging port of your phone for any signs of dirt or debris. If necessary, clean this port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

S5 Battery Drains Fast

Problem: Hi, I bought a Galaxy S5 three months ago and was fine at the beginning. Suddenly, last week the battery starts to drain fast and, if I remove the battery, I must connect the phone to an electrical source to power on it. I did all the “classical” stuff: factory reset, cleaned cache, dalvik… Also, I borrow from a friend a battery and discarded a malfunction battery. I am afraid of a hardware issue.

Solution: If you already performed all of the necessary software related troubleshooting steps and also replaced the battery then this issue could already be hardware related. There may be a component inside your phone that is failing or there could be a grounded circuit. I recommend that you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: Basically, my phone died cause of the battery and so i put it on charge, but it didn’t come up with the battery and what percentage it was on, so I kept trying and eventually it worked, but after 5 minutes it suddenly went to this weird downloading thing, it had a bunch of information on the top left corner going down and a big android logo in the middle, and it had ‘downloading!!!! Do not unplug your device’, so I left it overnight, there was no idea how long it was going to take. But 12 hours later, nothing had changed, then suddenly blank. Nothing. And now whenever I plug it into the charger it comes up with the battery and the lightning bolt, but never changes or charges.

Solution: The first thing you need to do in this case is to take out the phone battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then turn the phone on. Connect the charger then check if the problem still occurs. If it does then inspect the phone charging port for any signs of dirt or debris. If necessary, clean this port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. When charging your phone try using a different charging cord as this cord gets easily damaged. You should also try using a different wall charger. If you have an extra battery try inserting it in your phone as well then check if the phone charges normally with this battery.

If the issue still persists then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset to eliminate any software related issues that could be causing the problem.

If the problem remains unresolved at this point then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking. I suspect that the charging port of your phone could be causing the problem.

S5 Charges Slow And Battery Drains Fast

Problem: Howdy! I have been having some issues charging my phone in the last few days, so I went to your article How to Fix… (https://thedroidguy.com/2015/05/how-to-fix-samsung-galaxy-s5-charging-problems-troubleshooting-guides-107137) in order to see if your steps would help me charge my phone. However, the problem I am having was not quite listed in the article. Here’s the skinny: My phone will charge, but only very, very slowly, and it is not the charger or cord’s problem. (My husband’s Galaxy S5 was at 13% when I plugged it in about 2 minutes ago and now it is at 17%, so I seriously doubt it is the cord.). When charging, my phone vibrates and the plug symbol turns off, as though the phone is no longer charging. It is as though the plug is not actually connecting to the charge port and is wiggling loose somehow – but if that is the case I don’t know how it happened since I take excellent care of my phone. The battery seems to drain a lot faster than it used to. I tried most of the troubleshooting steps from your article and am at a loss how to get my phone back to normal. It has only been this way a few days so something must have changed, but I can’t think of what it might have been. Any advice you might have would be super.

Solution: Have you tried doing a factory reset? If you haven’t then backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This will eliminate any software related issues that may be causing the problem. If the issue still persists then try cleaning your phone’s charging port with a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol as dirt or debris can have this effect on phone’s.

If the problem does not go away then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Charges Sporadically

Problem: hi my phone charges sporadically. like if i plug it in it may only charge for a few seconds then stop. Or it may not charge at all then all of a sudden start charging again. it got a little wet but that was only drops on the screen. i had a case around it to.

Solution: This issue is usually caused by a defective charging cord. Try using a new charging cord when charging your phone then check if the problem still occurs. If it does then I suggest you clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. The presence of dirt or debris in this port could cause your phone to charge sporadically.

S5 Battery Temperature Too Low Charging Is Paused Error

Problem: When trying to charge the phone it comes up with “Battery temperature too low charging is paused”. I cannot find the issue – can you help me?

Solution: The first thing you need to do in this case is to rule out any software glitches that could be causing this problem To do this you need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the problem remains then try to replace the charging cord and wall charger. You should also clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. If you have a spare battery try using it as well to check if the problem is caused by a faulty battery.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. The problem could be caused by a faulty temperature sensor or a damaged charger port flex.

S5 Not Charging With Other Chargers

Problem: When I plug in my Samsung USB connected to a travel adaptor, my phone charges however slower than usual. If I use any other charger or USB to charge my phone it doesn’t work regardless of using the official samsung charger or any other charger which fits into the port. Please could you tell me a solution to this problem? Thanks

Solution: Try using a different charging cord when charging your phone. You should also clean the charger port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. If the issue persists then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset to eliminate any software related issues that could be causing this problem.

Fix The Samsung Galaxy S5 Battery Drains Fast issue & Other Related Problems

One of the thing that you will regularly monitor on a smartphone is its battery life since this is what powers your phone. The #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 for example when fully charged can provide an average of 27 hours of 3G talktime, or 9 hours of web browsing time, or 11 hours of video playback time. This is already quite good considering that the phone comes equipped with a 2800 mAh battery. There are however instances when certain power related problems can occur on this phone which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 battery drains fast issue & other related problems.

S5 Battery Drains Fast

Problem: I have a new battery from AT&T for my S5. If I turn it off and charge to 100% at night and unplug and leave off, when I turn it on in the morning it shows 85%. What is going on? Also I have looked in settings at the battery usage and screen uses the most, but nothing else is over 2 or 3 %. And it drains fast if we use any apps. Any ideas

Solution: Since you mentioned that this is a new battery try observing it first for at least 3 charging cycles ( wait for the battery level to be at 10% then fully charge it. Use the phone normally then when the battery reaches 10% charge it again. Repeat this three times).

If the battery drain problem still exists then try removing the microSD card of your phone if you have one installed.

You should also check if a rogue app is causing this problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Another troubleshooting step you should consider is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should try replacing the battery.

S5 Does Not Power On

Problem: Samsung Galaxy S5 will not power on. I believe it’s on Lollipop, but I can’t be certain. Tried soft reset. Tried powering on in Safe Mode and Recovery Mode. Nothing happens. No noise, no vibration. The phone did not drop and was not damaged (water or otherwise). It was on a nightstand and when I picked it up, it just wouldn’t work. I’ve even tried a new battery, which did not work either. Stumped.

Solution: Since the phone does not turn on even with a new battery installed then this could already be caused by a faulty internal hardware component, probably the power IC. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Goes Into Restart Loop

Problem: So when I try to turn on my samsung 5s it goes into a restart loop it restarts until I connect my charger once I had done that it stopped until yesterday afternoon. Now once I pull it off the charger it restarts then when I put it back on it works fine I don’t know what to do please help thanks.

Solution: The problem could be caused by a faulty battery. Before getting a new battery try the following troubleshooting steps listed below to eliminate the other possible causes.

  • Does your phone have a microSD card installed? Try removing it as this might be causing the problem.
  • Try starting your phone in Safe Mode. Are you able to access this mode? If you are then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. Start with the last app you downloaded before the problem started.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This erases the temporary system data.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If after performing the steps listed above the issue remains then you should try replacing the battery. If the issue persists then bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Not Charging After System Update

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy s5. I got a system update Sunday morning. later in the day I removed the battery and then put back in. ever since it doesn’t want to charge, it says it cannot charge and to make sure you are using original charger. I am. I take battery out and put it back and then will charge.

Solution: Let’s first work on the assumption that the system update is causing this problem. To check if this is the case you will have to backup your phone data and do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete try to check if the charging problem still occurs. If it does then you should follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris that is stuck in this port gets removed as this can cause charging problems.
  • Try using a different charging cord.
  • Try using a different wall charger.
  • Try replacing the phone battery.

If the problem still occurs even after performing the steps listed above then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Battery Does Not Last Whole Day

Problem: My S5 couldn’t hold a charge all day let alone an hour. I did a factory reset and nothing. I bought a refurbished battery from Walmart. Did an update and the lasted a little longer but did not last all day. What do I do now?

Solution: I recommend that you get a brand new battery instead of a refurbished one. If the battery life is still terrible even with a new battery installed then try the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Remove the microSD card of your phone if you have one installed.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Don’t install any apps yet after the reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Will Not Turn On When Cold

Problem: Hi. The screen on my galaxy S5 will not light up when it is cold. I press the start button, and when i drag my finger across the screen I can hear the phone reacting as it should, but the screen remains black. However, if I warm up the phone for a minute or two the screen works again. I have tried both soft reset and hard. But I still have to warm my phone up before the screen will work.

Solution: This problem is most likely caused by some internal component, possibly the display or the display controller, that is being affected by the decrease in temperature. Unfortunately this is already a hardware related problem which needs to be checked at a service center.

S5 Does Not Turn Off

Problem: I can not turn this phone off and it doesn’t appear the rear cover will come off to take out battery, I could find no release for it. My phone has the welcome screen and  start but will go no further. I have been trying to unlock from google gmail, don’t know the password and downloaded the apk. app and it has got me stuck on this screen. When I hold vol up, home button and start button to reset phone it gives me a blue screen to download a new operating system. I am waiting for battery to run down and then charge and try to restart.  All I want is to get back to original configuration and the phone to cut off and on.

Solution: The best way to turn the phone off is to remove its battery. Gently remove the cover starting from the crease on the right side. If the cover can’t be removed then try pressing and holding down the power button for at least 10 seconds. The phone should turn off. Once the phone is off try turning it back on again. If the phone is still stuck on the welcome screen after this then restart the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Only Charges When Off Issue & Other Related Problems

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 is a 2014 flagship device that has one feature that current flagship models don’t have and that is a user removable battery. The advantage of this feature is that the owner can simply swap out the battery with a new one in case something goes wrong with the old one instead of bringing the phone to a repair shop. Another notable feature of this device is its water resistance ( up to 1 meter for 30 minutes) and dust protection. While this phone is a solid performer there are also instances when issues can occur. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 charges when off issue & other related problems.

S5 Only Charges When Off

Problem: Samsung s5 is not charging or downloading pics from cell when the cell is ON. However, when turn off the cell then charging starts. I have done all the methods which are mentioned in the website, but could not solve the problem. Sometimes it happens that during charging when turn on the cell it continues to charge the cell. It seems charging port and charging battery cover (port cover) do not follow the Samsung charging software.  Often, cell also showing message “check battery cover” though it is already closed.  I have already done factory setting process, still getting prob.

Related Problem: In the past 2 or 3 weeks my Galaxy S5 has been unable to charge while turned on and charges extremely slowly when turned off. On 100% charge the battery will only last about 4 hours, when it used to be that I could hold charge for over a day. I tried safe mode and a soft reset but I don’t think that actually worked.

Solution: For this issue you should try cleaning the charging port of your phone first as dirt stuck in the port could be causing the problem. Use a can of compressed air or blow into the port using a straw to clean it.

Try using a different charging cord and wall charger when charging your phone. You should also get a new battery and check if the old battery is causing this issue.

If the issue still persist then it’s possible that the charging port is defective. Bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Only Vibrates When Charging

Problem: Hello! i have a Samsung galaxy s5. My original cable peeled so i bought a new one (supposedly original). It worked perfect with my original wall adapter. Yesterday i plugged in the phone to my PC with the same cable. It worked fine. Later when i tried charging my phone with the wall adapter, it didn’t charge and the power sharing pop up popped up. I only had 2% battery left so it turned off. when i plug it in it vibrates various times (short but continued) but it doesn’t charge with the wall adapter nor with the PC. Do you have any suggestions for me? thank you!  ps. i don’t remember the android version (but i have not downloaded the latest software update which came up a few days ago)

Solution: It looks like this issue is caused by a connection problem between the charger and the phone. Listed below are the troubleshooting steps that you need to do in cases like this. Perform each step below then check if the issue still occurs. Move to the next step if the issue remains unresolved.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone. Dirt or debris that’s stuck in this port can usually cause charging problems. When cleaning the port use a can of compressed air or blow into it using a straw.
  • Try using a different charging cord. This cord gets easily damaged especially if it is constantly coiled and bent.
  • Try using a different wall charger.
  • Try replacing the battery with a new one.
  • To eliminate any software problems that might be causing this issue you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the issue then I recommend you have your phone checked at a service center as this could already be a hardware related problem.

S5 Keeps On Restarting

Problem: Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy S5. My phone was working just fine until it kept restarting until I didn’t plug in my charger. Once i would take it out, it would work just fine. I realized it would happen whenever I would open up Snapchat. So i decided to uninstall it. But then again my phone would keep restarting until I didn’t plug it in. My battery was always between 80-90%. Now my phone doesn’t even turn on while the charger is in. It comes to the samsung colorful logo and then restarts again and again. Sometimes it will go to the lockscreen but then just a second later it starts restarting.

Solution: The first thing that you should do for this type of issue is to check if a glitch in the phone software is causing the problem. To do this you will have to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone just yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then the next step is to check if the battery is causing the problem by replacing it with a new one.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Keeps On Restarting With New microSD Card

Problem: i have been using my S5 for two years, but never update the Android. Recently i got a new 64GB microSDHC to replace my old 16GB microSD (without copy anything onto the new card), it was fine in the first hour, until i took about 10 photos, the phone kept restarting for some reason. It is perfectly fine after i swapped back to my old card. Many Thanks for the help!

Solution: It looks like the new microSD card might have some corrupt sectors. Backup any of the photos that you have stored in this card then format it using your phone. Once the format is complete try taking photos again and make sure that the photos are stored in the microSD card. If the issue remains then you will have to get a new card.

S5 Battery Drains Fast

Problem: I’ve got an S5 that had battery problems so I got a new battery and did 2 factory resets. The new battery was tested in an older S5 and worked perfectly but on this one, even after the reset, it drains unbelievably fast…clearly it cannot be the battery. I even shut the phone done for 3 hrs and when I turned it back on, the battery had drained from 80% to 30% while powered off. How is that possible with a new battery and after a reset? Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated. I’ve also cleared the partition cache and no change…

Related Problem: The battery is draining very fast.  I’ve purchased a new battery, dumped the cache (per TDG post instructions) and booted in Safe Mode (also per TDG post)  all to no avail.  I have uninstalled some apps but I’m just not sure what to try next.  The battery used to last all day and now it’s dead by mid afternoon.

Solution: There could be a shorted circuit in our phone that’s causing the battery to drain quickly. What you can do is to try to clean the charging port of your phone using  a can of compressed air or by blowing into it using a straw. Your aim is to take out any dirt or debris present in the port that could be causing the problem. If the issue still persist after this then I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Turns Off While Charging

Problem: My Samsung Galaxy S5 has begun turning itself off even while the battery is still charging, but not only does it go off it just keeps trying to restart & doesn’t get as far as the colorful SAMSUNG start up screen only to disable again. Repeating the vicious cycle until it is actually plugged in and i manually turn it on. Even then the allotted time i am being able to use my phone is becoming less & less.

Solution: You will need to check if the phone software is causing this problem by doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then the next step is to eliminate any battery related problems that could be causing this issue by replacing the battery with a new one.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should have your phone checked at a service center as this could already be a hardware related issue.

S5 Restarts On Its Own

Problem: Hello, I’ve seen your post about how to fix Samsung Galaxy S5 that turns off. I have a problem similar to those you’ve talked about, but not quite the same. A few months ago my phone started to restart on its own. it’s not connected to any drops on the floor or anything like that. I installed the update week or two before the problem had started. maybe the update is the problem. but I tried to put the old update and the situation is the same. then I tried to reset it completely, to put on the default settings and erase all the things on the phone. It still shuts down and turns on a few times a day. It happens when the light should go on, for example when I press the button to unlock it, it restarts also when I talk on the phone, the light goes of and the moment when I move the phone from my ear (when it’s supposed to light up) it restarts. when alarm should go on, it restarts.  I went to the mobile store and they can’t find the problem. I don’t know what to do, can you help me? Thanks!!

Solution: The best thing that you can do right now is to replace your phone battery with a new one to check if the battery is causing this problem. If the issue remains then it is most likely caused by a component inside your phone that’s failing. If this is the case then I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center that’s capable of performing board level repairs.

S5 Incompatible Charger Warning

Problem: Phone continues to display the incompatible charger warning even though the factory charger is hooked up. This did not happen until after the system wide update that was sent out a few months ago. Also, 70% of my contacts disappeared after the update.

Solution: The phone will usually show this error message if the charger is not providing the correct amount of current to the device. Sometimes this is caused by a defective charging cord, charger or some dirt in the charging port. Below are the recommended troubleshooting steps that you need to do for this type of problem.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or by blowing into it using a straw. Make sure to take out any dirt or debris that could be present in this port.
  • Use a different charging cord
  • Use a different wall charger
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

We have received several issues of this nature sent to us by our readers which we would like to tackle today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we aim to resolve the Galaxy S5 doesn’t charge issue & other related problems.

S5 Doesn’t Charge

Problem: My phone is only 2 months old however occasionally when plugging it in to charge it doesn’t charge, I have tested multiple cables and chargers however none of these work and the only solution is to restart the phone.  What can be done to resolve this issue?

Solution: If restarting the phone temporarily resolves the issue then there’s a possibility that the phone software could be involved. To troubleshoot this issue try starting the phone in recovery mode first then wipe its cache partition. This will delete the temporary data in your phone which could cause this problem. Restart your device after this then check if the phone now charges normally.

If the issue still occurs then you should backup your phone data then so a factory reset. This will restore your phone software back to its original condition. Once this is done check the charging status of the phone.

Other factors that you should consider should the above troubleshooting steps fail is to check the charging port of the phone. If there is any dirt or debris then clean the port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

Another factor that can cause this issue is a faulty battery. Try getting a new battery then check if the problem gets resolved.

S5 Problem Getting Phone To Charge

Problem: Hi! I am having some problems getting my phone to charge. This has been happening for about four months. My phone started off charging slow, then it started to down charge so when I woke up, I only had about 60%. So, I ordered a new Samsung battery and charger for my phone which helped for about two weeks, now my phone is doing the same thing. I have tried all of the ideas I have read online. Thanks

Solution: Have you tried isolating the phone software as a possible cause to this problem? To do this you can start by wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. If the issue persists then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet. Instead, observe the device for at least 2 days and see if it charges normally. If the problem dissapears then go ahead and reinstall your apps. If after installing the apps the issue reappears then you may have installed an app that is running aggressively in the background. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

S5 Does Not Charge Does Not Turn On

Problem: My battery fell out of my phone. I put it back in and it vibrated but shut off  now I doesn’t even show its charging   it wont power on. I’ve had it plugged up for 20 minutes and it won’t do anything. I took the battery out and put it back in and it still wont do anything.

Solution: Try taking out the battery and microSD card (if your phone has one installed) then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM.  Reinsert just the battery then try to turn on your phone. If it doesn’t turn on then connect the phone to its wall charger and let it charge for 20 minutes before turning it on.

If the problem still remains then try getting a new battery as the battery may have been damaged when it fell.

S5 Battery Drains In Less Than 12 Hours

Problem: Battery is draining in less than 12 hours. I shutdown apps as much as possible,  but it doesn’t help. I’ve tried another battery too.

Solution: There are several factors that could be causing this problem which we will eliminate during our troubleshooting.

First, you should check if some form of corrupt temporary data is causing this issue. To do this just wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This will delete the temporary data in your device. Once this is done you should check if the issue still occurs.

Another factor that you should look into is if a third party app you installed is causing the problem. To check if this is the case just start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from starting. Tr to observe if the issue still occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then an app could be the culprit. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Sometimes the phone software itself could be causing this issue. To troubleshoot if this is the case you need to backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

S5 Does Not Turn On

Problem: Currently I have had an issue with my Samsung S5 I purchased it one year back and i have really explored its goodness, but it started misbehaving by showing me an sms that” unfortunately your S5 has stopped”. This appeared many times but later it  stopped powering on, when i press the power button, it starts to power on but the word ANDROID keeps moving across the screen until when power is off but it will never proceed to display the window.

Solution: Try to check if the issue occurs even when your phone is plugged to its wall charger. If it doesn’t occur then it could be caused by a weak battery not providing the correct voltage to the phone. One way to fix this problem is to get a new battery.

If the problem occurs even when the phone is plugged to its charger then this issue could be software related. You need to check if your phone can start in recovery mode. This is a runtime environment separate from the phone’s operating system and is a great tool to check if the software is causing the problem. If you are able to access the recovery mode then try wiping the cache partition of your phone first. This deletes the temporary data in the device which could be causing the issue. Restart your phone then check if it can boot normally. If the issue still occurs then go back to recovery mode and do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete the data stored in your phone so only consider this if you have made a backup.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then it is possible that your phone software may have become corrupt. If this is the case then you will need to flash the updated stock firmware to your phone. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the Android forums online.

S5 Battery Drains Fast

Problem: My battery lasts around 3-4 hours and towards 50% it starts getting very hot and the battery  then drains 4 times faster then the rate it was draining.

Solution: A 3-4 hour battery life is extremely low and shouldn’t be the case since the phone can provide up to 11 hours of continuous playback on a single charge. Try to check first if the phone software is causing this problem. Sometimes a corrupt data or an app aggressively running in the background can cause this problem. To check if this is the case you need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet but instead check if the issue still occurs. If you are still experiencing the same problem even after the reset then try getting a new battery as the one you are using may already be weak.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Having Difficulty Charging Issue & Other Related Problems

Whenever a phone battery becomes drained the first thing that an owner does is to charge the device. The #Samsung Galaxy#S5 for example with its 2800 mAh battery can provide up to 27 hours of 3G talk time, 9 hours of web browsing, and 11 hours of video playback before needing a recharge. This is quite impressive as most smartphones available in the market are notorious for having battery life issues.

S5 Having Difficulty Charging

Problem: My phone has been having difficulty charging. When I plug it in, I have to angle the cord just right, or it won’t charge at all. When it does charge, it takes much longer than usual. I tried taking battery out and rebooting it as well as multiple cords. Thank you!

Solution: Usually if you need to position the charging cord in a certain way to charge the phone properly the problem is caused by the cord itself. There may be some cut wire inside the cord which usually happens when it is constantly bent or coiled. Since you already tried using multiple charging cords then we can eliminate this as the possible cause of the problem.

The next thing that you should do is to check the charging port of your phone if it has any presence of dirt or debris. If necessary, clean this port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

If the problem still persists then this could already be caused by a faulty charging port. Before bringing your phone to an authorized service center for further checking you should try to backup your phone data and do a factory reset first. This is to eliminate the possibility of the problem being caused by a software issue.

S5 Taking Hours To Fully Charge

Problem: My galaxy s5 is taking hours to fully charge. Once it does reach 100% and I unplug it, the battery drains completely within 3-4 hours even if the phone is not in use. I am using the correct charger and charging block. I have also already purchased a new battery. When changing the battery didn’t work, I did a factory reset and that didn’t work either. The phone is still dying after getting correct chargers, a new battery, and a factory reset. What else could be the problem?

Solution: Have you tried checking if your phone is getting warm? This can be a sign that there may be a shorted circuit somewhere in the device which is draining the battery life. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. Have the charging port checked first as this could be causing the problem.

S5 Does Not Charge When Turned On

Problem: My phone wont charge if turned on. I am having this problem for 2 days now. The only time my phone is charging when it is turned off. When it is turned on, the battery percentage is going down instead of going up. Please help.

Related Problem: phone only charges when it’s off, and SUPER slow when it’s off and charging

Solution: Before doing any troubleshooting make sure that you are using the wall charger that came with your phone. Sometimes if you use a third party charger that has not been certified to work with this phone this type of problem can occur. You should also make sure that the charging port of the phone is free of any dirt or debris.

To start the troubleshooting try getting another battery. A faulty battery is known to cause this kind of problem so it’s best to check on this first.

If the problem still persists then you should check if this is caused by a software problem by backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: Hello! I had the “power sharing” pop-up and my battery stopped to recharge… It was very difficult to charge, but sometimes, during charging, the battery jumped from 18% to 53 in 10min (for ex.).  Even the PC didn’t recognize the USB so I couldn’t transfer my documents to the computer. The last time, I tried to charge when it was around 18% and with the charger on, it kept going down very quickly and the mobile was burning, even when it was off.I did the “safe mode instructions” before, but the phone turned on all by himself. Now it doesn’t turn on anymore and I don’t know what to do 🙁 Thank you for the attention and it was the only website I found something about the problem. I hope you can help me..

Solution: It looks like the phone battery did not charge which is why your phone does not turn on. Try to use a different charging cord when charging the phone. The cord you are using may already be defective and is causing the problem. You should also try to use a different wall charger.

If the problem still occurs then proceed with checking the charging port of your phone. Does it have any dirt or debris present? If it does then clean it using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

Another possible factor that should not be overlooked is a defective battery. Try to get a new battery then check if the issue gets resolved.

S5 Charges Slow After Accidentally Dropped

Problem: Hey droidguy, so i’m having problems with my phone when it’s charging and i’m 100% sure it’s not the charger that’s working because i tried over 5 different S5 chargers. It started not working when i accidentally dropped it. Every time i turn off my phone and charge it it starts charging but very strange and slow.  While it charges like that my phone buzzes every 7 seconds while showing the charging logo at the same time.  But when i charge it when it’s on it does not charge at all.  Please help and reply asap!

Solution: If this problem occured right after you dropped the phone then there’s a big possibility that this is already a hardware related problem. You should however check the other factors that can cause this problem such as a defective charger ( you need to try using a different charging cable and different wall charger) or a faulty phone battery ( you will need to get a new battery). A dirty charging port can also cause this issue. If this is the case then clean it using a can of compressed air or cotton bud.

Then there’s also the possibility that this could be caused by a glitch in the phone software. If this is the case then I suggest you backup your phone data and so a factory reset.

If the issue still occurs after doing all of the troubleshooting steps above then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Battery Drains Fast

Problem: hi there i have a problem with my samsung galaxy s5 that i charge it all the night and in the morning i checked the battery . it was 100% then i disconnect it from charging and put it on the table and when i was want to go to the school it was 26% what i have to do

Solution: There’s a possibility that this could be caused by a faulty battery. Before getting a new battery though you should backup your phone data and do a factory reset to eliminate the possibility of this issue being caused by a software problem.

S5 Intermittent Charging

Problem: i recently updated my galaxy s5 to android 5.0, immediately after the update, the battery icon keeps displaying charging then not charging, with the danger icon coming up in the battery icon and disappearing thus causing serious battery drain on my device as the battery drains off quickly. i have tried everything and the problem still persists. Please how can i fix this.

Solution: In most case this problem is caused by a defective charging cord. Try using a different charging cord and see if this fixes the issue. If it doesn’t then try checking the charging port of your phone for any signs of dirt or debris. If necessary clean the port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

A faulty battery can also cause this type of issue. You should eliminate this possibility be trying a new battery on your phone.

If the issue still persists then you should backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the issue then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Won’t Charge

Problem: I bought a new battery today for my phone because my last battery got wet or had water damage. A triangle with a exclamation mark pops out when the phone is changing it’s a new battery and the phone works fine but it just wont charge. I’ve tried many chargers and it wont charge. Please help me

Solution: Did the battery get wet while it was inside your phone? If this is the case then water may have also entered your phone and affected the charging circuit.

To troubleshoot this issue try to check the charging port of your phone for any signs of dirt or debris. Clean it if necessary using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Since you mentioned that you tried using different chargers have you also tried using different charging cords? This cord usually gets damaged easily and replacing this with a new one may resolve the problem.

Sometimes this issue can also be caused by a glitch in the phone software. To check if this is the case you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the issue still persists then this may already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Loses Charge Quickly

Problem: Hi.  My phone has been losing charge very quickly recently.  Overnight it only charged to 94% and started to lose power even when plugged in. I have followed most of your advice and have found that if I boot in safe mode the phone will gain charge while I use it.  What should my next step be to cure the problem outside of safe mode?  Thank you in advance

Solution: If the issue disappears while in Safe mode then it’s possible that a third party app you installed in your phone is causing the problem. You could find out what app this is and uninstall it using a trial and error method. The quickest way however to resolve this problem is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Battery Drains Fast

Problem: Battery draining very fast. Can’t last 1 day. Checked online and nothing works.  I see a lot of people complaining. Wondering if this issue is going to get fixed!! That’s what it means when a lot of people complain! THIS IS AN ISSUE!!!!! PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Solution: One factor that could cause this issue is the apps installed in your phone. Try to check if there are any new updates available for your phone apps. Open the Google Play Store then open the My Apps section. You will then see which apps have new updates available. Install these updates.

If your phone apps are already updated or if the problem persists you should then wipe the cache partition of your phone then start your device in Safe Mode. In this mode only the default apps are loaded while the apps you downloaded are disabled. Try to use your phone this way for at least a day. Does the battery life improve? If it does then the problem may be caused by an app installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If at this point the problem still persists then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

You should also consider getting a new battery if the factory reset fails to fix the problem  as the battery that your phone is using may already be too weak.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: Charging blocked, phone not charging message to use original charger, which I am. Tried multiple chargers, same message

Solution: Try checking your phone charging port if there are any signs of dirt or debris. These particles usually interferes with the charging process. Clean it if necessary using a can of compressed air or a cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

Next, check the charging cord you are using for any signs of damage. It’s best if you replace this cord with a new one since the damage may be due to some cut wire which is not visible to the eye. This usually happens if the cord is constantly bent or coiled.

Sometimes a glitch in the phone software can also cause this type of issue. To check if this is the case I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Charger Port Damaged

Problem: I have tried many different chargers,  I’m thinking that the reason my phone won’t charge is because the charger port is damaged..how much would this be to get fixed? Or is there anyway I could fix it myself

Solution: I’m assuming that you have already cleaned the charging port of our phone and have also tried using different charging cords. If you think that the charging port is causing the problem then you must have this replaced.  Replacing this port requires some special tools to open the phone. The charging port assembly itself costs around $10. You can view some of the YouTube videos on how to replace the S5 charger port if you want to do this procedure yourself. If you are not comfortable doing this procedure then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have the port professionally changed.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: Overheated and bought a new battery. Came at 12%. Phone boots but when I plug it in to charge it, lightening bolt never appears. Shut the phone down and plug it in to charge it. The battery with the lightning bolt appears on the screen and it does the quick vibrate, but with no percentage, then disappears/phone shuts off. This happens repeatedly and battery never charges.

I have:

  • Cleaned the ports
  • Factory reset
  • Tried a different cable
  • Tried booting in safe mode, still won’t charge
  • Left the phone for an hour, it just did the same thing… battery appears, disappears the whole time, never charges.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Solution: Have you tried using a different wall charger? If you have then it appears you have already performed all of the necessary troubleshooting steps needed to be done for this type of issue.

The problem may already be hardware related. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
