S5 Not Charging Yellow Exclamation Mark

Problem: Hello, I was wondering if you could help me. I Googled why my phone wasn’t charging and seen your advice. I took the battery out of my S5 while my phone was on, held the power key in for a minute and then put the battery back in and put the charger in. When I did this, it said the charger was connected but had a big yellow exclamation mark in the middle. I was wondering if you knew why this was. Please help.

Solution: One of the main reasons why you will see an exclamation mark when trying to charge your phone is that the battery is not communicating with the phone. This could be caused by several factors which we will try to determine.

The first thing you need to check is if the battery is properly inserted in the back panel. While it’s unlikely that the battery will be mispositioned it can still happen which is why you need to check if it is securely in place. Open the back panel and take out the battery. Inspect the phone battery connectors. If it is bent or misaligned then try to correct this. If you see any dirt then clean this off with a cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Reinsert the battery making sure that it is properly placed then check if the problem still occurs.

If the problem still occurs then the next step is to check if a possible glitch in the phone software is causing this issue. Try to access the recovery mode of your phone. If you can access this mode then I suggest you proceed with wiping the cache partition of your device. It is also highly recommended that you do a factory reset. This should only be done if you have recently made a backup of your phone data.

If you can’t access the recovery mode or if the recovery mode troubleshooting fails then try to get a new battery. The battery you are using may already be defective which is why the issue occurs.

If the problem still persists at this point then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Will Not Charge When Turned On

Problem: I am having charging issues with my phone. It will not charge while turned on. Once I power the phone off it will charge intermittently, you will see the battery icon pop on and off the screen therefore it takes quite a few hours to reach 100% battery. This problem occured out of the blue, the phone was not dropped, got wet in any way I’m wondering if it could have been an App or if it has something to do with not yet doing the latest software update?? Hope you can help! Thanks!

Solution: There are several factors to consider that may be causing this issue. The easiest thing to check first is the phone charger. Usually it is the USB charging cord that gets damaged first which is why you should try to replace this. Make sure that the phone’s charging port is free of any dirt. If you spot any then clean it with a cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Try to charge your phone and check if the issue still occurs. If it does then try using a different wall charger.

Next, check if the phone software has anything to do with this issue by accessing the recovery mode then wiping the cache partition of your phone. This deletes the temporary data in your device which if corrupt has been known to cause this kind of problem.

If wiping the cache does not work then you should consider doing a factory reset using the hardware keys. Take note that you should backup your phone data before performing this procedure as it will be deleted in the process.

A defective battery is also known to cause this type of issue. If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the issue then I suggest you get a new battery.

S5 Battery Drain Issue

Problem: Before, even after the lollipop update my phone battery lasted for a whole day but recently my battery lasts for half a day, and when I go to battery in settings there is a gpsd process at the top of the list, even If I have location disabled. Thanks

Solution: If the GPSD process is on top of the list of battery consuming apps and processes then it means that an app is constantly accessing the GPS function of your device even if the GPS is turned off. If you know of any app installed in your phone that uses a location service or requires a GPS to work then try to disable the app first from the app manager then check on your battery settings again.

If you can’t find the app or if the issue still persists then try to eliminate any third party app that may be the culprit by starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the default apps are loaded while apps you downloaded are disabled. Check if the issue still occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it’s most likely caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

One other way to deal with this problem is to wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This deletes any corrupt temporary data that may be causing this problem.

Finally, if all else fails then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

S5 Does Not Turn On Stuck On Logo

Problem: when i power on,it gets stuck on boot logo. i have tried wipe cache partition but it didn’t work. i also tried safe mode but it didn’t even finish booting up. i tried factory reset but still it remains stuck on the boot logo. please help,please please.

Solution: This issue is most likely caused by a problem with your phone software. I suggest you take out the phone battery and microSD card first then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges your phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then turn on your phone.

If the issue persists then access the recovery mode of your phone and perform a wipe cache partition command. Restart your phone normally after this then check if the issue is resolved.

One last troubleshooting step that you should consider doing is a factory reset. Do this if you have recently made a backup of your phone data.

S5 Battery Temperature Too High

Problem: When the phone is shut down and i plug it it tells me the battery temperature is too high and when i boot it up it warns me about the battery temperature being to low then when I check in both cases the battery  is at room temperature and won’t charge.

Solution: You need to check first if this is a software related issue by backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset. If the problem still persists then your phone battery may already be defective. I suggest you get a new one.

S5 Battery Drain In 2 Hours

Problem: Phone is charging fully but running down in about 2 hours – I am making sure that nothing is running and it still seems to be a problem.  Battery looks normal.

Solution: You need to go to your battery settings then check which app or process is using up the most battery life. From there you can proceed on the troubleshooting. You either need to disable an app or service or turn off a phone feature.

If the problem persists then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone  as sometimes corrupt temporary data can cause this problem.

One final troubleshooting step that you can do is a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing this.

S5 Battery Drain Issue

Problem: Hi i was wondering if you could help me with a problem i am having. My galaxy battery seems to drain way quicker than before. it will also randomly switch itself of while i am using it and go from the galaxy s5 screen to the Samsung screen where the colors explode and it continually loop between these screens. it is only when i plug the phone into the charger will it get to the home screen. sometimes i will unplug the galaxy and it will switch itself straight back of again while other times it will work normally for a few minutes or even a few hours before eventually it will switch itself back off again and alternate between the 2 start up screens. do you know of any solutions to this problem?

Solution: Try to check first if these issues are caused by a third party app installed in your phone by booting to Safe Mode.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • When ‘Samsung Galaxy S5’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

If you don’t experience your battery draining quickly or loop between both startup screens then the problem may be caused by a third party app installed in your phone. Find out what this app is and uninstall it.

If however you are still experiencing the same problem in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

S5 Battery Drains Quickly

Problem: Hi, I have the s5 since the update 5.1.1 the battery drains like crazy,  the phone in my pocket I live in Queens I work in manhattan in less than one hour after a full nigh change by the time I reach work I’m already at 60%, i tried all, factory reset, wipe cache partition still same problem, but I realized something, the battery drains fast once it reaches around 60% it doesn’t drain that fast, or I can restart the phone the battery goes up to 80% then down to 60%, I just charged it full I restart it I goes down to 88%! Please help I don’t know what else to know!

Solution: Since you already performed the necessary troubleshooting steps necessary to rule out any software causes then it’s time to concentrate on your phone hardware. you should consider getting a new battery as the one your phone is using right now may already be faulty.

S5 Not Charging On OEM Charger

Problem: Hi, I have 2 issues with my Galaxy S5. 1. charging. I have an OEM charger, at home and it works fine, but the one I have at work (also OEM) doesn’t. It goes on an off like the charger is loose but the phone is on my desk and steady in one place, not moving. I replaced the charger and it was fine for 2 days. Now it’s doing the same thing again. The other issue is the memory. I don’t think I have that many apps but the memory is nearly at capacity and I can’t upgrade as a result. I moved as many apps to my SD card, but still the same issue. Could there be something else hogging my memory?

Solution: For the first issue you should check your phone charger port for any signs of dirt or lint. Do the same for the USB cord you are using to charge your phone. These particles may interfere with the charging process and may cause this issue. Clean it out if necessary using compressed air or a cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

For the second issue you may have a large amount of data stored in your phone. Try to check where your photos, videos, and music are stored. If it is in your phone internal storage then consider moving this to the microSD of your phone to free up some space.

You should also wipe the cache partition of your phone to delete the temporary data.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
  • When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.

S5 Not Charging

Problem: My Galaxy s5 does not charge when it’s connected to the original charger. I’ve trying connecting it to other chargers but it still doesn’t charge. When i connect it to any charger, including the original, it just won’t charge. Please help me. Thank you.

Solution: Try to check if there is any dirt or lint in your phone charging port. If you spot any then clean it using compressed air or a cotton bud dipped in alcohol. You should also try to use a different USB cord when charging your phone as the cord you are using may already be damaged. If you have another battery then try to use it in your phone and see if it charges.

If the issue still persists after performing the above troubleshooting steps then you should bring your phone to an authorized service and have it checked since this may already be a hardware problem.
