S4 Unable To Text

Problem: I’ve been unable to text on T-Mobile using a Verizon S4.  It started failing around the end of October. I tried the fix in your Sept. 15 blog – entering *#*#4636#*#* on the phone keypad – but nothing happened.  Am I supposed to do anything after entering this string?  Does this fix work on Lollipop? Thanks for any help.

Solution: The code entered on the phone keypad  *#*#4636#*#* should take you to the device testing menu. From here you can check the SMSC number your phone is using. If this number is not the one your carrier is using then you need to change this to the correct one in order for your phone to send a text message. If you can bring up this menu on your phone then go to device or phone information.Scroll to the bottom then go to the SMSC setting and press on refresh. For T-Mobile this number should be +12063130004. If this number is not present then edit the number in the SMSC field then click on update.

If the SMSC number is correct then the next step is to check the status of your account first. Contact your carrier and inquire if there are any issues in your account that could be preventing you from sending a text message.

Once you have made sure that your account does not have a problem then restart your phone. This resets your phone connection to the network and could resolve the issue.

Make sure to check if your phone is getting a good signal. You should also try to send a text message from different locations.

If you are still experiencing the same problem then the next step is to check if an app installed in your phone is causing the issue. To do this you need to start your phone in Safe Mode then send a text message. If you can send a text message in this mode then the problem is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

S4 Unable To Send Text Messages

Problem: I’m unable to send text messages. I was with Verizon, I couldn’t afford my bill so I went Metro pcs and received a new number on my phone. Now I can receive text messages, but can’t send them. My niece sent me a picture and I was able to respond to a mms message. Please help!!!!

Solution: It appears that your phone is still using the message center number of Verizon. You need to change this to the one used by MetroPCS. Contact MetroPCs regarding the message center number that they are using then do the necessary changes on your device.

S4 Having Trouble Sending Text Message

Problem: recently my phone started having trouble sending text. everything had been working fine…no new apps, haven’t changed anything, it just started having trouble. when I send a text it becomes suspended in a continual sending mode. if I leave it alone, maybe an hour or so, it will finally send. last night I tried sending a text and the little spinning circle just kept on going so I deleted the text before it sent, my wife said she got it anyway! I can receive text but it’s usually quite awhile after they sent the text. I’ve tried restarting, I’ve tried shutting the phone off and then turning back on, nothing has worked so far! HELP

Solution: Have you checked if the issue only occurs in a specific location? If it does then this may be caused by a network related problem. Try to contact your carrier and inquire if there are any network issues in your area.

If the problem is not network related then the next likely suspect is that it could be caused by corrupt data in your phone. Try to clear the cache and data of your messaging app. It’s also best if you wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode as a follow up. Check if you can now send a text message.

One last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing this procedure.

S4 Unable To Receive Text Message

Problem: My phone is unable to receive texts. I can send texts and make calls. I can even receive calls. This problem started about a month ago. I did a factory wipe on the phone. When that didn’t work I called customer support at T-mobile. They gave me a new SIM card which temporarily solved the problem. Several weeks later the same issue came up. It doesn’t seem to be  an issue with coverage since all the other functions work. I tried putting my phone in safe mode to see if I would be able to get texts and that does not work either. What usually happens is that the texts will get delivered in bulk within the next 24 hours. Really hoping there is a solution. Thank you!

Solution: If the factory reset fails to resolve the issue and replacing the SIM does not work then I suspect that this may already be a hardware problem. It could be a problem with the antenna or the board of the phone. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Can’t Attach Picture To Text Message

Problem: Everything was working fine then out of nowhere I can’t attach a picture to a text message anymore. Just says (unable to attach file). I have tried rebooting and clearing caches and searched settings , can’t seem to find a solution online or by myself. Please help  thanks

Solution: Several other owners of this device are also experiencing this same issue. One workaround which some people are doing right now is to attach the photo from the phone Gallery app and not from the Google Photos app. Try to do this and see if it works. If it does then continue doing this method until a new phone update will be released that fixes this problem.

If the above troubleshooting step fails then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S4 Cannot Send Text Message to Special Number

Problem: Hi, I recently rooted my Samsung Galaxy S4 successfully. I then installed my apps, one particular app, my banking app requires me to fill in username and password and after that it requires a text message to be sent from the phone to verify my cell phone number. It then just hangs there and after about 5min it says text message wasn’t delivered to verify cell phone number. So now I can’t use my banking app. Note: before I rooted my phone the app worked perfectly fine. Am I missing something? Do I have to give the app rooting permission? Is my text message settings correct? I can send text messages to friends and family. The  banking app just can’t send a text from the phone.

Solution: Rooting the phone should not have any effect on the banking app you are using. Try clearing the cache and data of the banking app then uninstall it. Once uninstalled download a new version from the Google Play Store. Once the app has been installed you should wipe the cache partition of your phone first before using it.

You should also try using the banking app with your mobile data turned on as the app may be sending the message using your mobile data.

S4 Not Receiving Text Message From One Person

Problem: All of a sudden I am not receiving text messages from a particular person. She has been responding, as I’ve seen a screenshot of her texts to me but I haven’t received any of them. I powered my phone down and restarted but it didn’t help. Any ideas?

Solution: One factor that may be causing this problem is that you may have accidentally blocked that person causing their message to be placed in the spam number list. Try to check if this is the case.

If the number is not in the spam list then you should proceed with clearing the cache and data of your messaging app to see if this resolves the issue.

Another factor to consider is if a certain app is blocking the text message. To check if this is the case you should start your phone in Safe Mode. Have your friend send you a text message then see if you can receive it. If you can receive it then the problem may be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

S4 Freezes When Closing Text Message App

Problem: when i use my text and close it out by clicking the side close button it locks up my phone… can make or answer calls or do anything else.. i have to restart the phone to clear it. But when i close out text window by clicking the button on lower portion of phone its fine. Can you help?

Solution: It looks like this problem is caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone. Try clearing the cache and data of the messaging app first. If the problem persists then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone.

One last troubleshooting step that you should perform in case the problem does not get resolved is to backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

S4 Unable To Send Text Messages

Problem: I am unable to send text messages.  I have no idea what Android version this phone is, maybe you can help me figure this out too.

Solution: If you are having a problem in sending a text message but not in receiving one then you should check the message center number your phone is using first. This may be different from the one your carrier is using. For T-Mobile the message center number on your phone should be +12063130004 which you can set from the text messaging settings.

If your phone has the correct message center number then restart your phone. This resets your connection to the network and usually helps in this case.

Once your phone has started proceed with clearing the cache and data of your text messaging app before sending out a text message.

If the problem still persists then your should contact your carrier to check if there are any network related issues in your area. You should also inquire if you have any account related issues that may be preventing your from sending a text message.

S4 Slows Down When Group Texting

Problem: It seems that anytime I am engaged in Group text messaging my phone slows to a crawl when A. Receiving a group message, B. Sending a message on group. C. General browsing of current messages. Now I feel this may be an Android issue as is since I was a user of most of the Galaxy series up to 5 before I decided to move to HTC for this problem <though galaxy had others as well> Now I do download games and such, but this issue is present with just base software and apps, and if I delete all the group messaging <which I don’t like, id rather keep record of messages> it SLIGHTLY alleviates the issue until just a few group messages are added. Now I AM open to trying different messaging apps if that will fix it, but I am not in the “”know”” about any, and any suggestions to solve this will be appreciated.

Solution: This problem is usually caused by some form of corrupt cached data. Try clearing the cache and data of your text messaging app first and see if this resolves the problem. If the issue persists then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone.

You should also check if a third party app installed in your phone is causing this problem. To check on this you should start your phone in Safe Mode. If you are not experiencing the slow issue when group texting in this mode then the problem may be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the problem persists even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S4 Not Receiving Text Messages

Problem: I cannot receive text messages. When I call someone that’s when the texts come in. I can text someone and they get it just fine.

Solution: This problem is usually caused by the cached data in your phone. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone then check if the problem still occurs. If it does then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
