S2 Not Turning On

Problem: Hi my S2 will not turn on properly it starts up and you can hear it and touch stuff on the screen but you can not see anything i have been told this is a software problem is there anyway to fix it.

Solution: If this is a software problem the best thing you can do right now is to connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer running on Kies then backup your data.

Once the data has been backed up you should perform a factory reset.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold both Volume Up and Volume Down keys at the same time.
  • Press the Power key only until the phone vibrates once, then release only the Power key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume up and Volume Down keys until the Android System Recovery screen appears.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight wipe data / factory reset.
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight Yes – Delete all user data.
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Power key to reboot.

If the problem does not get resolved by a factory reset then try replacing your phone battery with a new one.

If all else fails then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it diagnosed.

S2 Black Screen Issue

Problem: Hi, hope you could help me out. So I just went to look at my photo gallery and it went to a black screen then started giving a little vibrate like it does when you start the phone.  I tried taking the battery out and it will start boot up then goes right to the black screen and starts vibrating again.  I also tried to hold down the start button and nothing happens. I Hope you have an answer for me! Thanks for your time!

Solution: In most cases, if your battery is already faulty, you won’t be able to boot your phone properly. The first thing that you need to do in this scenario is to replace your battery with a new one. Remember to charge the new battery for at least 20 minute using the wall charger before turning on your phone.

If the issue persists then try to connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer running Kies. If your phone can be detected then it’s always a good idea to backup your phone data.

Once your data has been backed up your next step is to determine if this issue is caused by your phone software. To do this you should perform a factory reset.

If the issue still persists then bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked as this may already be a hardware related issue.

S2 Retrieving Data From Bricked Phone

Problem: Hi Droidguy, My Samsung Galaxy S2 has become what I understand from research on the Net to be called ‘hard bricked’.  It won’t turn on and/or charge.  I have tried hard booting the phone to Download Mode (Power + Home + Volume Down) but this doesn’t work.  I have also bought a USBJig but that doesn’t work either! Is there any way I can get my data off the phone.  If I send it away for repair, they tell me they will do a factory reset and loose all my data.  I really would like to download my photos. because I am the only one that has some of my nephew, who was born a few weeks ago, at 3.5 hours old. I hope you can help me and I look forward to hearing from you soon. Kind regards

Solution: Unfortunately in this case it is difficult to retrieve your phone data if it does not turn on. The first thing that you need to do is to boot it to allow you to retrieve the data.

If your phone does not respond at all then it may already be a hardware related issue. You could try using a new battery on it to see if it will turn on. If it does not turn on then bring it to an authorized service center and have the hardware checked.

S4 No Display

Problem: Hi, My galaxy s2, 3.5yrs old phone screen cracked  many  weeks ago but the phone is working. Yesterday, I guess due to moisture the screen started showing horizontal lines, a few hours later, it started to show blue smudgy patches like blotted ink. In a few hours the screen began getting dark and now nothing is visible. But the phone is working fine. I am not sure if the battery is anyway effected but it is charging. I would appreciate your help if there is a way to fix it without too much expenses by replacing the screen. I’d rather buy a new phone if that is the only solution. Thanks.

Solution: No amount of software troubleshooting will be able to fix the screen. The best solution for this issue is to have the screen replaced as it is already damaged.

S2 Does Not Turn On

Problem: Hi, I have a samsung galaxy s2 and it was working well and all of a sudden i went to use it and it doesn’t switched on ,it was nearly fully charged. then i tried to put a new battery and it doesn’t worked with it too. p.s. its not charging too (it’s like dead) can you please help me ASAP?

Solution: Try taking out the battery first as well as the microSD (if our phone has one installed) then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This completely discharges your phone of any residual power and clears out the RAM. Reinsert the battery but leave the microSD out then turn on your phone.

If it still does not turn on then connect your phone to the wall charger and let it charge for at least 20 minutes. Try turning on your phone again.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then you should attempt to wipe the cache partition of your phone.

  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight wipe cache partition.
  • Press the Home or Power key to select.
  • Make sure Reboot System Now is highlighted and press the Home (or Power key to reboot.

If the problem still persists then bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S2 Battery Drains Fast

Problem: I have Battery Doctor , clean master, cm security ,cm speed booster and other traditional apps on my phone. Problem: I’m constantly going to Battery Doctor to address running apps consuming power on the phone.I also noticed once my phone is fully charged less than two minutes later it reflects at 92%.  device lagging has also recently become an issue. I have a just the brightness option. what recommendations do you have which will enable me to address these problems?  please advise.

Solution: Regarding the power drain issue you should verify first if a third party app is causing this by starting your phone in Safe Mode.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • When ‘Samsung Galaxy S III’ appears on the screen, release the Power key Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • ‘Safe mode’ will display in the bottom left corner of the screen. Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode.’

Observe your phone battery meter and see if you still notice a considerable drop. if the issue does not occur anymore then chances are it is caused by an app. Find out what app is causing this and uninstall it.

If the issue still persists in Safe Mode then you should wipe the cache partition of your phone. This solution will also deal with the lagging issue you are experiencing.

  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight wipe cache partition.
  • Press the Home or Power key to select.
  • Make sure Reboot System Now is highlighted and press the Home (or Power key to reboot.

If the problem still persists then back up you phone data and do a factory reset.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, ower key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.

If at this point you are still experiencing the same problem then try using a new battery on your phone.

S2 Not Turning On

Problem: I charged my phone last night. This morning the blue light was on and blinking once a second.  I pressed the power on key and it would not respond. I have tried other batteries with no luck. Then I tried them with my charger plugged in – no luck. Then I tried them with the phone plugged into my computer – no luck. Also I notice it’s not going back into charging mode (red light on) with any of the battery juggling I’m doing. Also I don’t have the original USB computer/charge cable. Or at least I don’t know which of my cables is the right one. Somehow my phone must have recognized that I was looking at my Sprint store to get new phone, and it decided to go belly up on me. Please help. I’m desperate to retrieve my data, contacts, and photos of my grandchildren.

Solution: Have you tried charging your phone with a different USB cord? Try this first and see if it works. If your phone still does not turn on then take out the battery and microSD card then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. Reinsert the battery but leave the microSD out. Turn on your phone.

If the problem persists then attempt to wipe the cache partition of your phone.

  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight wipe cache partition.
  • Press the Home or Power key to select.
  • Make sure Reboot System Now is highlighted and press the Home (or Power key to reboot.

If your phone still does not turn on then this may already be a hardware related problem. Bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S2 No Power

Problem: Hi I was reading your webpage on how to repair Galaxy s2’s and thought I would try asking for your advice. I have an S2 which has had a new battery and charging port installed a couple of months ago and was working well however now the phone won’t turn on at all, totally blank screen and no sound, nowt! When I plug it into charger there’s still nothing however the batter does get slightly warm as it would as if it was charging normally. I have tried holding down the power, side buttons in various different ways as advised by other sites etc however nothing seems to kick it into gear! Any advice you have would be gratefully received. Kind regards

Solution: There’s a possibility that the battery may already be faulty. Try getting another battery and use it in your phone. If the problem still persists then this may already be caused by a faulty hardware. Have your phone checked at an authorized service center.
