How to fix Google Pixel 2 that won’t charge [Troubleshooting Guide]

Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are among the latest entrants to Android smartphone market this year. These new Google devices are deemed to be incredible and possibly the best Android phones there is by far. But just like any other smartphones out there, these new handsets can likewise succumb into various types of problems transpiring in other Android phones. One of the most prevalent issues that are expected to manifest is on power, particularly with charging. Read on to find out what can possibly cause your Pixel 2 device to stop or refuse charging and what must be done as remedy.

What triggers your Google Pixel 2 phone to not charge, charge slowly, or stop charging?

When a smartphone won’t charge, it doesn’t always mean that the battery is to blame. While it can be among the factors to consider, you cannot just put the blame straight to a bad battery especially in new devices like Google Pixel 2. Often times, the software is to blame. Why and how can the software prevent the phone from charging you asked? The answer is simple. Your phone is a handy computer that works as a system. Everything in your device is programmed to work with each of the hardware components. For instance, a camera app is needed to use the phone camera to take photos or record videos. In this case, the camera app (software) is the program that is specifically designed to work with the camera (hardware). If something goes wrong with the camera app, then most likely the phone’s camera won’t work as intended or it could be the other way around. The same concept is applied to your phone’s charging functions. Your phone also has a specific program responsible for charging. The only difference it has with the rest of the apps is that a user’s intervention won’t be needed for it to work. For as long as it detects that the phone is connected to the charger and charging port, the program is triggered. And that is when it decides whether to allow your device to charge or not. If something goes wrong with that program responsible for carrying out charging functions, then that’s when you get to experience charging issues on the device like slow charging, incomplete charging or not charging at all. The same thing can happen if other apps on the phone are misbehaving. Some apps can affect certain functions like charging. A faulty update including major Android system updates also appeared to be among the possible culprits. And the worst possible cause is hardware damage, which is often the case when the phone got wet or dropped then no longer charges afterwards.

Potential solutions and workarounds to deal with charging problems on Google Pixel 2

First things to do and check before troubleshooting

  • Examine charging equipment. Check and ensure that the charging cable, charging adapter, charging port and the power source in use are working. Sometimes the main issue is triggered by any of the charging equipment in use. To rule this out from the possible causes, verify and ensure that everything is working beforehand. You may try to use a different charging cable, charging adapter, charging port, or power source that’s compatible with your device. Doing so will help you determine whether or not the problem is isolated to the cable, adapter, port or power source.
  • Do not use phone while charging. As much as possible, avoid using your phone while charging. Aside from safety measure, doing so will also allow your device to charge up faster as there will be no interruptions. Using the phone while charging is one of the reasons as to why your device is charging very slow or couldn’t be fully charged.

After verifying that all charging paraphernalia are working yet still your Pixel 2 doesn’t charge, consider trying these subsequent workarounds.

Reboot your Google Pixel 2 (if applicable)

If your device still has little amount of power left, then try to restart your phone. Doing so will eliminate the possibility of a faulty app or software glitch is preventing your device from charging.

  1. Turning the device off then back on (soft reset) won’t affect data on your device. For starters, here’s how a soft reset is carried out on Google Pixel 2:
  2. Press and hold the Power button on the right edge.
  3. Tap the option to Power off.
  4. Or you can just press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds until it reboots.

Calibrate the battery (if applicable)

If you haven’t already and it can possibly be done, try to calibrate the battery on your phone.

Battery calibration can help ensure battery performance and that your device shows the correct battery level. The process involves draining the battery thus should only be done occasionally. Note that the battery’s lifespan can be adversely affected by constant draining or completely discharging of the battery. If you wish to give it a shot and that you can, then here’s how it’s done:

  1. Drain your battery completely by using it until it powers off.
  2. Turn it on again and then let it turn off on its own.
  3. When powered off, plug it into a charger and let it charge until the charging indicator says that it has already reached 100 percent.
  4. Disconnect the phone from the charger then turn it on.
  5. In the case where the phone doesn’t say it’s 100 percent charged, plug it into the charger again and let it charge for a little longer until it reaches 100 percent.
  6. If the battery is fully charged (100 percent), unplug the charger and restart your phone.
  7. Now use your phone again as you normally do until it completely runs out of power and turns off on its own.
  8. Connect it to the charger and let it charge until it reaches 100 percent without any interruption.
  9. Turn on your phone.

The battery is now fully calibrated. Try to connect it to a charger and see if it’s already charging as intended. You can try other power source like a laptop computer, car charger, or power bank.

Other options to consider

  • Troubleshoot apps. Aside from the prior methods, there are also other workarounds you may consider trying but only if you can. If you still have a little amount of remaining power on your Google Pixel 2, then you can try to troubleshoot apps first. If you can, try to close all apps running in the background. Any of these apps might be the trigger or prevents your device from charging. If the problem starts after installing a new app, then probably that new app is to blame. Running the phone in Safe Mode can help you in determining whether or not a third-party app is to blame. If possible, boot your Google Pixel 2 into Safe Mode and then try charging it while in safe mode.
  • Master reset. Although I won’t recommend doing so considering that your device is already running low on power, a master reset or factory reset is also another option to consider when dealing with software-related issues in mobile devices. As mentioned earlier, often times the phone doesn’t charge due to software issues instead of bad battery. Performing a factory reset can be your last resort in dealing with software issues as it wipes your device completely, thus gives your phone a fresh clean start.

In case you want to give it a try and that you can, here’s how to master reset your Google Pixel 2:

  1. Press and hold down the Power button until the device powers off completely.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Down button for about 3 seconds.
  3. After 3 seconds, press the Power key while still holding down the Volume Down button for another 3 seconds then release both buttons.
  4. Use the Volume Down or Up button to highlight Recovery from the given options.
  5. Press the Power key to confirm selection.
  6. When the Android logo appears on the screen, hold down the Power key for about 2 seconds.
  7. While holding the Power key, quickly press the Volume Up button.
  8. Highlight the option to Wipe data/factory reset by pressing the Volume button then press the Power key to confirm selection.
  9. Use the Volume button to select Yes — delete all user data option then press Power to confirm.

Wait for the phone to reboot. After the reboot, try to charge your device and see if it’s already able to do so. You can proceed with the device set up once it is completely charged.

  • Lastly, be sure to charge your device properly. As much as possible, use only the original charging equipment for your device. Other third-party chargers, or charging adapters may not be compatible with your Google Pixel 2, thus it won’t charge using these equipment. Unfortunately, wireless charging is not supported in the Pixel 2 series so that couldn’t be considered among your charging options right now.

If none of these methods is able to fix the problem and that your Google Pixel 2 still won’t charge, try to contact your device carrier for other options or escalate the problem to Google Support. Boot into Safe Mode (if possible).

It your device turns on, try to restart in Safe Mode. Doing so will rule out the possibility or an app (probably the most recent download) causing your device to not power on.   1. To boot your Google Pixel 2 into safe mode, press and hold the Power button.
  2. Touch and hold the Power Off icon on your screen.

When you see the Safe Mode label at the bottom of your screen, it means that your device starts in safe mode.

You can also try to boot your Google Pixel 2 into safe mode while your device is off. Here’s how:

  1. Press the Power button on your phone until the Google logo appears.
  2. When the animation starts, press and hold the Volume Down button on your phone. Keep holding it until the animation ends and your phone starts in safe mode.

Again, you’ll know if it is already running in safe mode if you see the label at the bottom of the screen.

Assuming that you’re able to boot up your Google Pixel 2 in safe mode, connect it to the charger then  try to delete any suspected app using these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up the Arrow icon (located at the bottom) to view the Apps List.
  2. Navigate to Settings-> Apps.
  3. Locate then select the appropriate app.
  4. If system apps aren’t visible, tap the Menu icon (located in the upper-right) > Show system.
  5. Tap Force stop.
  6. Tap OK.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Tap Clear Data. This option may not be available for some apps especially for pre-installed ones. Resetting an app or clearing data storage may delete saved info within the app (e.g., calendar events may be lost).
  9. Tap OK.

After you diagnosed and removed suspected apps in safe mode, you can switch back to normal mode by restarting your device.

Connect your Google Pixel 2 to a computer.

You can also use a computer to troubleshoot your device further. If you wish to give it a try, then here’s how it’s done:

  1. Unplug the cable from the power adapter.
  2. Check and ensure that your computer is turned on and connected to a power source.
  3. Connect your Google Pixel 2 to your computer’s USB port using the supplied USB cable.
  4. Wait for about 15 minutes.
  5. After the elapsed time, disconnect and then reconnect the cable from your phone. Do it within 10 seconds.
  6. If you see a battery icon within 1 minute, it means that your phone is powered off and is charging.
  7. If you see a red light, it means that your battery is completely drained or discharged.
  8. If you see a flashing red light, it means that your device has not enough power to turn on.
  9. Let your phone charge for at least 30 minutes.
  10. After 30 minutes of charging, press and hold the Power button for a few seconds, then tap Restart on your screen.

Note: If you don’t see Restart on the screen, press and hold the Power button for about 30 seconds more until your device restarts. If it still doesn’t turn on, then consider the next suggestions.

Other suggestions

  • Give it more time to charge. Connect your phone to a power source and let it charge for about 30 minutes or up to an hour if necessary. Sometimes, what you think of a power problem is actually a charging issue on your device. It is also possible that some apps are draining the phone’s battery so rapidly that it couldn’t get to power on unless it’s connected to the charger. Also examine your charging cable, adapter, and power outlet and make sure each of them is working.
  • Try Android recovery/repair tools. If you already have run out of options and your Google Pixel 2 still doesn’t turn on, then you may try your luck with Android recovery/repair tools. You can download any of these tools online. Should you wish to go for this option, be sure to read the reviews and check the minimum system requirements to ensure that it is compatible with your computer and your Pixel device too. After downloading and installing your preferred software on your computer, launch it then follow the onscreen instructions to proceed with Android recovery and/or repair process.
  • Don’t forget your warranty. If you’re Google Pixel 2 is still under warranty, then you should contact your device carrier, escalate the problem, and/or avail for warranty (if still eligible). Consider doing this first especially if you just got your new device and then you found out that it is not power on no matter how hard you tried. You also have the option to contact Google Support for further assistance in troubleshooting the issue.

Take your device to a technician for hardware assessment and/or repair if necessary. Consider this option if your device is no longer covered by warranty and you suspect that a hardware damage is causing the problem.

Google Pixel 2 can’t send to and receive SMS from one contact, other texting issues

Hello and welcome to today’s troubleshooting article for the #GooglePixel2. We’ve chosen to address some texting issues on this device as more and more similar cases have reached us recently. We hope to address more Pixel 2 issues in the coming weeks so watch out for them.

If you can, kindly include the exact error messages you are getting to give us an idea where to start. Problem 1: Google Pixel 2 can’t receive text and emails from credit company

Just bought a Google Pixel 2. Noticed that I cannot receive incoming security verification code texts from my credit union—nor could I receive verification e-mails from them. Phoned the credit union and they sent 2-3 texts to me while I was on the line with them which I never received. The attendant (who owns an iPhone) sent me a test text and that came through just fine. Is there a setting on my Pixel 2 which I need to adjust/modify? Is my Pixel 2 blocking messages that come from these kind of automated systems, and if so, what adjustments can I make so that I can receive these texts/e-mails? (I do own an iPad Mini and have slid the iMessage button to the “off” position. I did the same thing on my iPhone prior to syncing them. My Pixel 2 is currently set to the default text message receiving program. Thanks! — Mark K. Orozco

Solution: Hi Mark. If you’re saying that your Pixel 2 device is unable to receive both text and emails from the same company, the problem may lie on their end. Their system may not have your correct information so whatever they’re sending do not reach you at all. Make sure to contact them and let the person you’ll be talking to spell out your number and the letters in your email address.

If your credit union has both information right but their messages remain undelivered, try to check your device for any possible blocks you may have created. For example, you want to make sure that your messaging app is not blocking their number or any unknown number. Do the same for your email.

If everything appears in order, contact your carrier to see if their network is blocking messages from this company.

Problem 2: Google Pixel 2 can’t send and receive MMS

I can’t send pictures or receive pictures on my text. I soft reset, I master reset, I contacted my carrier. They said it’s the pixel as it doesn’t support all of LTE bands and other features cause it’s not an AT&T phone. It’s happening to my Pixel 2 and my wife’s Pixel 2 phone too. drop calls and loss of internet connection. My carrier said to get an AT&T phone. What should I do. — Juan

Solution: Hi Juan. If you’re saying that you are in AT&T network but using a non-AT&T device, then the representative you talked to before is most probably right. MMS, a text message with attachment, needs cellular data in order to work. Your phone must also be compatible with your network’s system in order to send and receive MMS. Even if you manage to make mobile data work on your device, that’s just 50% of the requirements. You still need to have a compatible device. Compatibility is determined by your carrier so make sure to talk to AT&T again where the problem lies exactly. If they’ll say that your Pixel 2 can’t work with their system, you’re out of luck. Network compatibility is determined by a device’s radio. If it’s not equipped to handle the frequency of AT&T, you’ll not be able to change that at all. And then there’s the software/app compatibility part. In order for MMS to work with AT&T’s system, the messaging app in your device must be able to recognize and send compatible messages. If this part of the chain is broken, MMS will not work at all.

Problem 3: Google Pixel 2 photo is sent separately from body of the MMS

Samsung Google Pixel 2. When I create a text message to a recipient  and attach a photo, the message sends automatically in a separate text message, not the one I originally created. If I begin from my photos and select the photo and click share via text message, it asks for a existing contact or new contact. I am usually selecting existing contact and once the contact is selected the only option is to send. I don’t get the chance to add any text to the message. The only way I have found around this is to create a new text message don’t add a recipient attach a photo and add the text then add the recipient last and click send. Any help you can provide with this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. — Tom

Solution: Hi Tom. Did you change anything in your phone before noticing this problem? If nothing was changed at all — no update, no new app installed, no network/settings modifications — there may be an app bug causing the issue. To fix the problem, consider wiping the messaging app’s cache and data.

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps & Notifications.
  3. Tap See All Apps.
  4. Locate and tap to select the Messaging app you want to clear cache and data from.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap Clear Data.

Remember, clearing your messaging app’s data will erase your messages. Make sure to back them up first before attempting to clear the app’s data.

If this problem has been there ever since,it’s possible that your Google Pixel 2 may not be fully compatible with your carrier’s system, or that the messaging app itself is running an old version. Make sure to install updates for both apps and Android to see if that fix the issue.

Otherwise, consider doing a full factory reset to bring all app and software settings back to their defaults. If you haven’t tried it yet, here’s how:

  1. Create a backup of your important files.
  2. Power off your device completely.
  3. Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons simultaneously until the bootloader mode (represented by an Android with Start on it) appears. Release both buttons at once when you see this image.
  4. Use the Volume buttons to highlight or select Recovery mode from the given option.
  5. Press the Power button to confirm selection.
  6. The device will then flash the Google start screen briefly and then restarts in Recovery mode.
  7. If prompted with an image of a broken Android bot with No Command label on the screen, press and hold the Power button, and press the Volume Up button once then release the Power button.
  8. Select Wipe data/factory reset option from the Android Recovery screen. Use the Volume buttons to select the option.
  9. Select Yes.
  10. Wait until the factory data reset process is finished. It can take several minutes depending on the amount of data there is to reset.
  11. Select Reboot system now then wait for your device to boot up completely.
  12. Finally, proceed to initial activation and setup.

Remember, factory reset can also deal with app or software bug that may have caused MMS feature to behave erratically. If the problem remains after doing our suggestions above, especially after a factory reset, there’s either coding issue behind it, or your phone has an isolated error that we’re not aware of. Either case, we suggest that you let your carrier know about it since it involves their system as well.

Problem 4: Google Pixel 2 can’t send to and receive SMS from one contact

I am having an issue with sending and receiving text messages some contacts, one for sure. When it started I had a Pixel 2 phone with Tracfone. This is the main contact I use and suddenly I could not send picture messages any more but could receive from them. Multiple calls to tech support with Tracfone and turning off phone, resetting phone, removing SIM card, turning off wi fi, all kinds of attempts to fix to no avail. Then after one call to them, was no longer able to send or receive ANY messages from this contact. Even got a different phone and changed number. Finally quit and switched carriers and got a Samsung Amp2 from them but am still having the same issue. Contact says number is not blocked on their end. Help please! — Hornz

Solution: Hi Hornz. Sending and receiving SMS/MMS involves multiple parties — your device, your carrier, your contact’s device, and his/her carrier. Any of these points in the communication chain can be the cause of the problem so if your carrier has assured you that your account is not blocked from sending and receiving messages from this person, then the issue must be out of your hands already. Try to contact that person using another platform (like thru his social media account) and tell him/her that the issue is either on his/her device or his/her carrier. You can’t obviously contact his/her carrier to fix the issue on his/her behalf so the problem may only be fixed once it’s taken care of from that side.

How to troubleshoot Pixel 2 with Snapchat app that keeps crashing

More often than not, if a third party application starts to crash, it’s just a minor problem and you really don’t have to worry about it. In fact, you can immediately fix the problem by removing the app from your device but then you won’t be able to use the app any longer. That’s not the solution we want. What we want is for you to be able to continue using the application without any problems. Here are the things you can do to fix this problem…

First solution: Try rebooting your phone first

A reboot may be able to fix this problem because it’s possible that it’s just a result of a firmware glitch. While glitches happen all the time, they’re pretty easy to fix and all you gotta do is restart your device. Take time rebooting your Pixel 2 and once it becomes active, open Snapchat and use it to know if it still crashes or not.

If, by any chance, the problem isn’t fixed, then try doing the forced reboot which is far more effective than the normal restart. It will refresh your phone’s memory and reload all the apps and services. If the problem is indeed just a result of any form of glitch, then the problem should already be fixed at this point. If that’s the case, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Clear cache and data of Messenger app

Doing this will reset the app back to its default settings or configuration. It will also delete the cache created by the system for the app as well as its temporary data files. If it’s just a problem with the app, then this procedure is more than enough to fix it.

  1. From a Home screen, tap the Arrow Up icon to display all apps.
  2. Navigate: Settings > Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap See all xx apps.
  4. Locate then select Snapchat.
  5. Tap Force stop.
  6. Tap OK.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Tap Clear cache.
  9. Tap Clear data.
  10. Tap OK.

After this, open Snapchat to know if it still crashes or shows the error message. If the problem continues, then you will have to do the next procedure.

Third solution: Uninstall and then reinstall Snapchat

There are times when updating the app you’re having problems with is enough but this time, what I suggest is for you to uninstall Snapchat from your device to remove all its associations with the firmware and other apps. By reinstalling it, you can also rest assured that you have the latest version of the app on your phone.

  1. From a Home screen, tap the Arrow icon to display all apps.
  2. Navigate: Settings > Apps & notifications .
  3. Tap See all ‘xx’ apps.
  4. Tap Snapchat.
  5. Tap Uninstall.
  6. Tap OK to confirm.
  7. Open Play Store.
  8. Search for Snapchat and select it.
  9. Tap Install.

Based on experience, when this app crashes, the problem is limited to it or to the main app, which is Facebook. However, if the issue continues after doing the procedure above, then I suggest you reset your phone to make sure it’s not with the firmware. Before the reset, make sure you backup all your important files and data so that they won’t be deleted.

  1. Ensure the device is powered off.
  2. Press and hold the Power+Volume Down buttons until bootloader mode (image of an Android with Start above it) appears, then release.
  3. Select Recovery mode.
  4. Use the Volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the Power button to select.
  5. The device will flash the Google start screen momentarily and then restarts in Recovery mode.
  6. If presented with an image of a broken Android with “No Command” shown on the screen, press and hold the Power button. Press the Volume Up button once then release the Power button.
  7. From the Android Recovery screen, select Wipe data/factory reset.
  8. Select Yes and then allow several minutes for the factory data reset process to complete.
  9. Select Reboot system now.
  10. Allow several minutes for the factory data reset and reboot processes to complete.

Problem #1: How to fix Google Pixel 2 that won’t boot up or stuck in Google loading screen

So this morning my phone went black and then the screen came up as the google loading screen. It stayed on that screen for hours. Then my phone died. I put it on a charger for three hours and turned it on. It went back to the google loading screen and stayed that way. I then did the holding down of the volume button and the pressing of the power button and then chose the power down option instead of the reboot option because I had read somewhere online that it is a work around to getting the phone back up. Well now my phone will not boot up. It keeps showing the charging battery on the black screen that shows up when you battery is really low and you have just plugged it in. I cannot get past this and Google pixel help was of no help to me. Thoughts?

Solution: A Google Pixel device may fail to boot up for a number of reasons. Unfortunately, we can’t tell you exactly what may be the exact reason for your particular case. If force reboot has been tried and did not make any difference at all, then the next troubleshooting that you can try is to restore your Pixel’s factory image or software environment. This may or may not work in your case but it’s worth giving a try. If you are unable to restore the device to its factory defaults, then you need to contact Google so they can repair or replace the phone.

Problem #2: How to recover data from a Google Pixel 2 that won’t boot up

Hi Droidguy(s). I want to be able to retrieve notes from a non-Evernote note App that are not located on the micro SD. Is there any chance that may still happen? To make it more of a head-scratcher for you: I can’t access neither Recovery mode with the ‘start-home-volume up/down’ button holds. The screen will just flash an error warning for maybe 1 second that reads ‘failed to mount system’ and much more that there is no time for to read. I couldn’t find a picture of the exact same error code which doesn’t seem to bode well. The only other thing it will show is this warning: Nothing happens with the ‘hold the home button for 5 seconds’ tip either. Support was as useful as a decorative vase. I can kiss my notes (and my phone) good-bye, can’t I?

I would still value your opinion. Alternatively, can you judge if a professional data recovery lab could even do anything for me? Your time, dedication and digital tinkering is much appreciated! E:failed to mount.

Solution: Access to your device’s internal memory is only possible if these three basic things are true:

  • touchscreen is working normally (so you can input commands)
  • operating system is not corrupted/ working normally
  • memory is not malfunctioning or damaged

Given that your device no longer boots up normally, it’s virtually impossible to retrieve your data at all. ‘failed to mount system’ error  can be an indication of a failing or malfunctioning flash memory. It can also be an indication that the memory has been corrupted, or its partitions are no longer working as expected. Any of these situations spell trouble and can mean that your data are good as gone.

We’ re not data recovery experts so we can’t say with certainty if all hope is lost at this point. From some basic perspectives though, once a phone won’t boot up at all, data recovery is almost always an impossible task. If money is not an issue and those data are very important, then we suggest that you let a data recovery professional take a look so an in-depth examination can be performed. Only after a thorough examination of the device can one say with enough certainty if there’s a chance that your files can be extracted.

Problem #3: Google Pixel 2 screen stops working after accidental drop

Pixel 2 suddenly went dim after a very short fall (approximately 1 foot) while in a case. It was onto a slightly padded chair so I didn’t think anything of it. The screen now won’t return to full brightness, the resolution is very poor, and the screen trails when dragging. It looks as if the screen is at 25%, the colors are dull, and contrast is at 0%. Tried a soft reset, run the battery completely dead and recharge, and factory reset. Not sure if it was dumb luck, but factory reset got it back to normal for a day and then the issue started again. This is the 2nd Pixel I’ve bought in 6 months. Are they garbage? Any help would with the screen would be greatly appreciated. 

Solution: If the screen issues you’re reporting only started after that dropping incident, then there’s really no point for you asking if Pixel devices are garbage. Electronic devices, however manufacturers market them to be durable enough, can easily break. Protective cases only offer minimum protection and are useless in preventing damage from drops. Stop wasting your time looking for ways to fix the screen issues on your level (unless you know how to diagnose hardware issues on this phone or replace the screen assembly yourself. Instead, we recommend that you let a professional check the hardware so it can be examined and repaired.

How to fix Google Pixel 2 that cannot send or receive text messages or SMS [Troubleshooting Guide]

Majority if not all smartphones nowadays are already equipped with advanced technology, thus offering more advanced features for end-users to benefit from. But what if the simplest feature fails to work on any of these high-tiered devices? Definitely, it’s a bummer but it happens. In fact, it is recently afflicting some users of high-end Android devices including the Pixel smartphone series from Google.

Some have it that they’re unable to send or receive SMS or text messages after installing the latest Android update. Why do these things happen and what should be done as remedy? Why does your Google Pixel 2 unable to send or receive text messages or SMS?

A smartphone cannot send or receive SMS or text messages for various reasons. It can be a glitch on the network or carrier’s system, account issue, SIM card issue, a software glitch, incorrect settings, and software updates. Generally the problem is related to the software. Although there are also a few cases where users are no longer able to send or receive messages because the device itself is damaged from prior incidents of dropping or liquid exposure. Unless it’s hardware-related, you still can try some means to get the problem fixed without having to pay extra for device repair. Now let’s take a closer look on the software aspect.

Text messaging is among the phone features and services that require network intervention. If a problem occurs on the network like when it’s not available, the rest of network services on your device will likewise be affected or not working and text (SMS) messaging is among them. The same thing can happen if there are some issues with your account that needs to be settled. Often times, outgoing services like calling and texting function are temporarily disabled or unavailable in this case.

Another factor to consider is a bad SIM card. This is likely the culprit if you are getting SIM card errors while attempting to send a text message. Be sure to read and review the error message to find out what went wrong and what needs to be done in order to get things back to work normally again.

Software glitches can also trigger the same problem to occur especially if it is affecting the messaging app in use. It can be isolated to an app like stock messaging or third-party messaging app you are using on your device. Incorrect settings on the messaging app or device itself can also cause a similar issue. You may consider this as the probable cause if the problem started after making some changes on an app or device settings. SMS problems can also be triggered by a faulty update. This is what has happened to a number of Google Pixel users following the Android 8.0 Oreo update.

So what are your options to resolve the problem on sending or receiving SMS, given that the underlying cause is in the software aspect? Answers to this question are highlighted below. Read on to find out.

Potential solutions and workarounds to deal with SMS problems on Google Pixel 2

While waiting for the next update from Google containing the official fix for this bug, you may resort to trying some workarounds as temporary solutions. Of course, no one would want to just wait longer, do nothing, and receive/send no texts on your device. You can take your chances on each of the following methods.

Before you begin performing any of the subsequent methods, make sure that your phone is getting good signal strength from the network as indicated by the signal indicator on the status bar. Also, if you suspect that the problem has something to do with any unsettled issues on your account, contact your carrier or service provider. Finally, if the problem started after making changes to some settings on your Google Pixel 2 then try to revert the changes back to its prior configuration. If none of these is able to help and yet you still cannot send or receive SMS or text message on your Pixel phone, then you may now proceed with these workarounds.

Be sure to test your device after performing each method to determine whether or not the problem has been resolved. Proceed to the next applicable solution if necessary.

First solution: Soft reset.

Turning the device off then back on is one of the very first steps recommended when troubleshooting device issues that are software related. The process is also referred to as a soft reset in mobile devices. A soft reset will not affect data on the device so it’s a safe process. For starters, here’s how a soft reset is done on Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL:

  1. Press and hold the Power button located on the right corner.
  2. Tap the option to Power off.
  3. If the device is not responding or frozen, you can just press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds or until the phone reboots.

Minor software bugs and glitches that might have affected the messaging function on the phone will likely be rectified by a reboot so don’t forget to give it a shot.

Second solution: Remove and reinstall SIM card.

To rule SIM card issues out from the possible causes, try to remove and then reinsert the SIM card on your device. Doing so can also help in fixing problems on sending or receiving calls, or connecting to the Internet. And here’s how to do it properly:

  1. Power off your device completely.
  2. Push a paperclip or SIM eject tool into the circular opening on the SIM card tray to remove it.
  3. Remove the SIM card from SIM tray then place it back in. Be sure to keep it properly secured in the tray.
  4. Push the tray back into the slot.

Turn on your device. Try to create a text message to test if you can now send or receive the message on your device without getting any error. If this trick doesn’t do any good, then try to work on the messaging app with the next method.

Third solution: Clear app cache and data.

Should the problem is caused by any corrupt file or message within the messaging app you are using, clearing the app’s cache and data might be the key to fixing it. Clearing cache means deleting temporary data from certain app on your device while clearing data means permanently deleting of all app’s data. The latter option will therefore erase some of your customized settings and information including passwords used for that app. Be sure to create a backup of this information beforehand. If you haven’t already, follow these steps to clear cache and data on your Google Pixel 2 messaging app:

  1. Tap Settings to open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps & Notifications.
  3. Tap See All Apps.
  4. Locate and tap to select the Messaging app you want to clear cache and data from.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap Clear Data or Clear Cache.

Wait until your device is finished clearing cache and data from the app then reboot your device. After the restart, create a text message or SMS and try to send and receive it on your Pixel phone.

Note: Menu options and steps may vary depending on the messaging app you are using. The above procedures apply to the Stock Messaging app on the phone.

Fourth solution: Reset network settings.

Network problems are among the possible reasons as to why you are not able to send text or email messages on your device. To eliminate this from the possible causes, you can try rebooting the network equipment (modem/router) first, followed by a reboot on the device itself. If none of these is able to fix the problem, then try performing a network settings reset instead. Should there be any incorrect options applied on the device’s network settings, that will be deleted in the process for good.

Before you proceed, please note that this process will erase your Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular network settings including saved networks and passwords on your device. You can backup this information for safekeeping beforehand.

For starters, here’s how a network settings reset is done on your Google Pixel 2 or Google Pixel 2 XL smartphone:

  1. Tap the Arrow Up icon on the Home screen to view all apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap System.
  4. Tap Reset.
  5. Select the Network settings reset from the given options.
  6. Tap Reset Settings to continue.
  7. If prompted, enter the correct passcode, PIN or pattern.
  8. Tap Reset Settings again to confirm action.

Wait until the network settings reset is complete then reboot your device if necessary.

Now see if SMS sending and receiving functions are already working properly on your phone. If not, consider the last option below.

Fifth solution: Factory reset.

Before you proceed, be sure to backup all your important data in Google Cloud. All this information will be deleted in the process. A factory reset often resolves various types of device issues from frozen displays, crashing apps, touchscreen problems, syncing, calling and texting problems. However, you will need to setup and configure your device again from the start. If you want to try your luck on this reset, then follow these steps whenever you’re all set:

  1. Power off your device completely.
  2. Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons simultaneously until the bootloader mode (represented by an Android with Start on it) appears. Release both buttons at once when you see this image.
  3. Use the Volume buttons to highlight or select Recovery mode from the given option.
  4. Press the Power button to confirm selection.
  5. The device will then flash the Google start screen briefly and then restarts in Recovery mode.
  6. If prompted with an image of a broken Android bot with No Command label on the screen, press and hold the Power button, and press the Volume Up button once then release the Power button.
  7. Select Wipe data/factory reset option from the Android Recovery screen. Use the Volume buttons to select the option.
  8. Select Yes.
  9. Wait until the factory data reset process is finished. It can take several minutes depending on the amount of data there is to reset.
  10. Select Reboot system now then wait for your device to boot up completely.
  11. Finally, proceed to initial activation and setup.

Once everything is setup properly on your device, try to create a message to send and receive and then see if it will now go through.

Factory Reset Google Pixel 2 through the Settings Menu

Alternatively, you can use the Settings menu to factory reset your Google Pixel 2. Here’s how:

  1. Tap the Arrow Up icon from the Home screen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap System.
  4. Tap Reset.
  5. Select the Factory data reset option.
  6. Tap Reset Phone to continue.
  7. If prompted, enter the correct passcode for your device.
  8. Tap Erase Everything to confirm.

Wait until the factory reset is finished then proceed with initial setup on your device. After the reset, try to create a test message (SMS) and then see if you are able to send and receive the message on your phone.

Seek more help

If the problem started after updating your Google Pixel 2 to the latest Android software version, contact your carrier or Google Support to escalate the problem and asked for help. They may be able to reset something on their end and get your messages up and running properly again. Otherwise, try using a different messaging app instead.

How to fix a Google Pixel 2 that won’t turn on or charge [troubleshooting guide]

Welcome to another troubleshooting article that addresses some common issue on the #GooglePixel2. We’ve been getting a number of similar reports about Pixel 2 devices not turning on or charging so we’ve decided to address these issues in this post. We hope you’ll find it helpful.

Problem #1: How to fix a Google Pixel 2 that won’t charge

I have had a Google Pixel 2 for less than a year and I am so frustrated because the battery will not charge. Even with the charger that came with it. It appears to me to be a hardware issue, although I am not totally ruling out a software issue because I have many applications on this phone. Please help me fix this I am so frustrated.

Solution: An issue like this can be caused by a software bug or a hardware malfunction. If the main reason for your Pixel 2 failing to charge is software in nature, then you’ll most probably resolve it on your end. If not, repair may be the ultimate way to fix it.

To check if software is to blame, these are the things that you should try.

Solution #1: Force reboot your device

Sometimes, charging bugs are fixed by doing a simple troubleshooting step — restart. In your case, you don’t just want to restart your Pixel normally but to force reboot it. This will simulate the effects of having disconnected the battery from the phone. This procedure is usually recommended for devices that become unresponsive. If you haven’t tried it yet, follow the simple steps below:

  1. Press and hold the Power button for about 10 to 20 seconds
  2. Wait until your Pixel 2 power cycles.

Solution #2: Use another set of charging accessories

Like the main device itself, charging accessories like the USB cable and adapter can get broken too. To see if there’s a problem with them, try using another official Pixel 2 charging cable and adapter. If the phone charges fine with the second set, it means the problem lies on either the cable or adapter.

Solution #3: Check the charging port

This is just a suggestion and is not meant to tell you to fix the charging port itself. The most that you can do is to clean it using a can of compressed air. Before you do that, you want to see if there’s any dirt, debris, or broken pin in the port. Sometimes, dirt may interfere with the inserted  charging cable causing charging to go awry. If you think the port may be dirty, try cleaning it without inserting anything. A can of compressed air can come handy in this situation. If the charging port appears normal or if you can’t see anything that might cause charging to fail (there’s really nothing much there to see), then just leave it as it is. Do not stick anything insider as that might bend or damage something.

Solution #4: Factory reset

This is the ultimate troubleshooting step that you can do in this situation. By resetting, you are returning all software information to their defaults, which is free of charging bugs.

To factory reset your Pixel 2:

  1. Ensure that the phone is turned off.
  2. Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons until the bootloader mode appears then release. It’s represented by an Android bot image with Start label on top.
  3. Press the Volume Down button to select Recovery mode then press the Power button to confirm selection. After doing so, your phone will flash the Google start screen momentarily then restarts in Recovery Mode.
  4. When you see the Android bot image with an exclamation point inside a red triangle with No Command label beneath, press and hold the Power button.
  5. Press the Volume Up button once then release the Power button.
  6. Use the Volume button to select Wipe data/factory reset option from the Android Recovery screen.
  7. Select Yes to confirm.
  8. Wait until the factory data reset process is finished.
  9. Select Reboot System Now.

Solution #5: Get professional help

If your Pixel remains problematic after a factory reset, that means the problem is beyond your ability to fix. Make sure to bring it to Google service center so its hardware is checked and repaired.

Problem #2: What to do if Google Pixel 2 won’t turn on

Last 2 weeks the phone was switching itself even battery is about 64%. Then I charge the phone for about 1 min. Take out charger in and out few times then phone was turning on. I was about to send the phone in envelope to insurance but phone fell down on wooden floor and it was started. But today when battery was 82% I insert the charger. As soon as charger usb inserted the phone switched off and is not turning On.

Solution: Try charging your Pixel for at least an hour before you attempt to turn it back on. If nothing will change, charge it using another cable and adapter. If that won’t work either, that means it’s dead. Maybe the charging port is fried, perhaps it’s the battery, or there may be a motherboard issue. Whatever it is, you need to let a technician check the device physically.

There’s no way to examine it remotely and fix it by doing some software tricks.

Problem #3: Google Pixel 2 restarts on its own when using Google Chrome

My Pixel 2 randomly shuts off several times a day for reasons that I can’t associate with a specific application (though I notice it most frequently with the Chrome browser). I’ve cleared all applications’ cache and data and wiped, all to no avail.  I’m on the verge of attempting a master reset, but, as a newbie (backup – and restore-wise), I have a question about first backing up the existing content. If there’s a problem with one or more specific applications and their data, why should I back up all of my apps? Would I be better off starting fresh and just adding individual apps until I have a problem?

Solution: Some bugs may be carried over to backup versions if they happen to be associated with how that particular app is configured. In other words, app problems may continue if the app itself is poorly configured, incompatible with the current operating system, or poorly coded. Before you create your backup, we suggest that you boot your Pixel 2 to safe mode first to confirm further if your suspicion is true.

Safe mode blocks third party apps so it’s a good tool to use if you think the problem comes from one of your third party apps. If it’s due to a bug in Google Chrome though, you should skip it and try to simply factory reset the device. This will return all software and app information to their defaults and hopefully clear the Google Chrome bug you’re experiencing.

For reference, these are the steps on how to boot your Pixel 2 to safe mode:

  1. Press and hold the Power button until the menu options appear.
  2. Tap Power off from the given options.
  3. Allow your device to power off for a few seconds.
  4. Then press and hold the Power button until the Google logo appears. then release the button.
  5. With the Google logo still on screen, press and hold the Volume Down button.
  6. When you see the Safe mode label in the lower-left corner of the unlock screen, release the button.

Problem #1: Google Pixel 2 keeps shutting off, won’t boot normally

Hello. I have a brand new Google Pixel 2 and just encountered a problem that I can’t seem to fix with any of the troubleshooting issues. Yesterday the phone started telling me I ran out of memory/ storage and wouldn’t let some apps function properly. Notes then Instagram started freezing and being unresponsive twice. Within 30 minutes it wasn’t functioning anymore and I restarted. Now it is stuck in reboot mode. Google logo with a bar that’s continuously looking like it’s loading but it’s stuck there. I charged it and left it alone but it doesn’t get out of the reboot mode. Please help. I haven’t had wifi for a couple of days so lots of data hasn’t been backed up 🙁 Thanks so much. — Carolin

Solution: Hi Carolin. Many Google Pixel 2 users reported random shutdown issues a few months after Pixel 2 was released but Google already patched that problem. If the problem only occurs recently, there must be unique circumstances that causes it to work erratically. Since a problem of this type occurs due to either software or hardware issues, you need to isolate the cause first. Below are the things that you can do.

Restart your Pixel

This is a basic first step. Many Pixel owners in the past fixed restart issues by simply doing a soft reset on their device so you don’t want to miss it on your own too. Soft reset usually works for issues caused by bugs that work only when the operating system is up. By turning off the device, you can potentially kill the said bug as well. If you haven’t tried it, here’s how it’s done:

  1. Press and hold the Power button (on the right edge).
  2. Tap Power off.

If your Pixel 2 becomes unresponsive/frozen, press and hold the Power button for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles.

Check for system updates

As mentioned above, Google has already released an update before to fix early forms of random restart issue. If you haven’t had the chance to check for updates, now is the time to do it. To check for and install system updates:

  1. Open your device’s Settings app.
  2. Near the bottom, tap System and then System updates. If needed, first tap About phone or About tablet.
  3. You’ll see your update status. Follow any on-screen steps.

Obviously, you can only do this potential solution if the device boots up normally. If it doesn’t allow you to do it at this time, consider booting it up to safe mode first.

Run your Pixel 2 on Safe mode

Some restarting problems are due to incompatible or rogue apps. To check if that’s the case here, make sure to see if your device can boot to safe mode and function normally. Here’s how:

  1. Press and hold your device’s power button.
  2. On your screen, touch and hold Power off Power. Tap OK.
  3. After you see “Safe mode” at the bottom of your screen, wait to see if the problem goes away.

Remember, safe mode is not a solution but a tool. If your Pixel 2 boots to it fine and won’t shut down on its own, that’s an indication that one of your apps is to blame for the trouble. Since safe mode won’t pinpoint the exact problematic app for you, it’s up to you to figure it out. Try to uninstall the most recent app you’ve added and see how your device works back to normal mode. If the problem is still there after deleting an app, go back to safe mode again, uninstall an app, the restart to normal mode to check for the problem. Repeat this cycle until you identified where the problem comes from.

Remove root or switch back to stock firmware (if your Pixel is rooted or running unofficial ROM)

If you tried to tamper with the official software prior either by rooting or flashing before the problem occured, we suggest that you undo what action you did and see what happens. There are valid reasons why manufacturers would want to lock down their device and discourage users from tampering with the software and one of these reasons is the possibility of your situation happening. Rooting and flashing is only recommended for those with advanced knowledge about Android and who can manage to find solutions should issues like this occur. If you were uninformed or did not do your research ahead of time and did the tampering anyway, then you might have just killed your device. There’s a lot of things that can go wrong when working with software and most of these issues cannot be fixed by simply reversing the process. Whatever you did, only you knows it so try to narrow down the possible causes by eliminating issues one by one. Start by checking for errors that might give away the nature of the problem. Go to Google forums and ask the community if they encountered a particular error you’re experiencing. A good place to start posting your questions is Google’s own Pixel community forum.

Factory reset

The only effective way to fix a Pixel device that keeps on shutting off on its own is by doing a factory reset. Factory reset works by erasing personal data and reverting all software settings back to their defaults so if you didn’t create a backup of your device before the issue occured, you’re out of luck. At this time, there’s no way you can create a backup unless the device allows you to boot to safe mode.

Being a Pixel user, we assume you know your Google account credentials (username & password for your Pixel phone). You’ll need them before and after the factor reset.

To begin doing a factory reset:

  1. Turn off your Pixel.
  2. With the device turned off, press and hold the Volume down key. Note: If Device Protection is not disabled, the login credentials for the Google account currently associated with the device will be needed to set up the device after the reset.
  3. With the Volume down key held down, press and hold the Power key.
  4. Release both keys when the Android screen appears.
  5. Use the Volume keys to scroll to Recovery mode.
  6. Press the Power key to select Recovery mode.
  7. When the No command message appears, press and hold the Power key.
  8. While holding the Power key, press and release the Volume Up key. Note: Release the Power key when the Android Recovery screen appears.
  9. Press the Volume down key to scroll to Wipe data/factory reset.
  10. With Wipe data/factory reset highlighted, press the Power key.
  11. Press the Volume down key to scroll to Yes, then press the Power key.
  12. Once the wipe is complete, with Reboot system now highlighted, press the Power key. The device will restart.

Problem #2: Google Pixel 2 stopped charging and won’t turn on

I can charge my Google Pixel 2 and I can turn it on. I seem to be able to use whatsapp for example but when I try and make a call it freezes then turns off and then I can’t turn it on again, at least for some time. I left it overnight and then managed to turn it on again this morning but it has 1% power and turned off again. I charged it up, turned it on, sent a whatsapp again and it was fine. Tried ot make a call – same thing, Now I can’t turn it on. Any ideas please? — Matthew Rolfe

Solution: Hi Matthew. There’s nothing much that you can do if your device won’t power on so your first task right now is to turn it back on. There may be an issue with the charging cable  or adapter so try to get another known working set and use it to charge your device. You want to ensure that the device charges normally so you can turn it back on and perform software troubleshooting. If you’re successful and the device charges, you can then follow the suggestions in this article to try and fix the main issue.

If your device won’t charge at all and remains off after leaving connected to a new adapter and cable, it’s most probably because of a hardware malfunction. It can be a bad battery, defective power management IC, or a general motherboard malfunction. Whatever it is, the only way to have it fixed is by sending it in for repair. We suggest that you contact Google so they can set up repair or replacement request for you.

How to fix Google Pixel 2 XL Bluetooth issues: keeps disconnecting from car head unit

Hello and welcome to today’s troubleshooting article for #GooglePixel2! We’ve been getting an increasing number of reports about Pixel 2 Bluetooth issues for the past few days so we’ve decided to publish one about them. We include two cases as examples in this post but the solutions mentioned here should be applicable if you have different circumstances too.

Problem #1: How to fix Google Pixel 2 XL Bluetooth issues: Bluetooth connection keeps disconnecting to car head unit

I have a 2010 Camaro and a Google Pixel 2 XL and I have never had any problems with the Bluetooth connection. Over the last 4 days, when I am on the phone, my phone will suddenly go from Bluetooth, to handset, then back to Bluetooth. There hasn’t been a specific period of time when it is switching back and forth, sometimes it’s 20 seconds, sometimes it’s two minutes, other times it doesn’t switch back. When it switches from Bluetooth to handset, my radio screen, that usually shows the phone number of the person I’m talking to , will change to ” connected pixel 2″, then when it switches back to Bluetooth, the phone number will reappear or sometimes it’ll say unknown. I don’t think I’m actually losing connection between the car and the phone. I think what’s happening is the phone is switching from broadcasting through Bluetooth, to regular handset mode. One time a few days back, I had lost the Bluetooth phone call through the car so I picked up the handset and started talking. I finished the phone call and as soon as I finished the phone call my phone started broadcasting my music again. This leads me to believe that somehow the phone is discontinuing Broadcasting the Bluetooth phone call, but not the connection. What do you think??? Thank you!!!!

Solution: There’s a number of possible reasons for your problem. Bluetooth devices often encounter pairing issues or incompatibility problems for a number of reasons ranging from firmware bugs, hardware incompatibility, out-of-sync Bluetooth versions, signal interference, among others.

Incompatibility issue

If your car’s head unit had not worked properly with your Google Pixel 2 XL Bluetooth ever since, it’s possible that there’s an incompatibility issue involved. Incompatibility issues between new devices and head units usually occur because the latter devices are not up-to-date, or their hardware is obsolete. Like smartphones, Bluetooth versions also evolve. But while newer smartphones run the latest Bluetooth versions (software and hardware), vehicle head units do not. This can usually lead to problems as outdated Bluetooth versions may not work properly or at all when paired with new devices. Device makers usually exert effort in making sure that their Bluetooth functionality can work with older Bluetooth devices. However, at times, compatibility issues may still exists. For example, newer phones now use Bluetooth Smart and since such devices can only with with other Bluetooth Smart devices, there are technical limitations that cause compatibility issues.

If possible, do some digging about your car’s Bluetooth capability and see if it’s compatible with Google Pixel 2 XL.

Disable possible sources of interference

It’s possible that there is another device in your car or in the vicinity that causes signal interference between your phone and head unit. Try to eliminate possible sources of interference by making sure that there are no other Bluetooth devices in your car or in the area. Also, you want to ensure that your phone and head unit are close to each other and there’s no object between the two.

Signal interference between Bluetooth devices is common since a lot of devices may use the same unlicensed  frequency at the same time. Even devices that don’t transmit may interfere with Bluetooth devices. Some of the suprising sources of interference can come from these items:

  • Wifi
  • USB 3.0
  • Other electronic device that may be in your car

To see if there are external sources of interference, bring your car to an isolated spot and see how Bluetooth works with your Pixel. If you have other devices like laptops, other smartphones, or any other electronics in the car, make sure to turn them off.

Update your car’s Bluetooth system

Some head units may allow update for their firmware. Consult your car’s manual and see if there’s a way for you to install an update for its Bluetooth. Alternatively, you can consult your car dealership to see if they can do it for you. Again, not all head units have update capability so be sure to try updating yours. Hopefully, an updated Bluetooth version will eliminate whatever is causing the problem.

Forget all Bluetooth connections

Another troubleshooting step that you can try is to clear all pairings or Bluetooth connections in both your head unit and phone. Consult your manual on how to do this on your car’s head unit.

To forget Bluetooth connections on your Pixel 2:

  1. Swipe up to view Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Connected devices.
  4. Tap Bluetooth.
  5. Tap the Options icon beside the device you want to unpair.
  6. Tap Forget.

Reset network settings

We don’t think this has something to do with your Pixel device but some users were able to successfully make their device work by clearing their network settings. If you haven’t tried it yet, here’s what you need to do:

  1. From a Home screen, tap the Arrow icon Up to display all apps.
  2. Go to Settings app icon.
  3. Tap System About icon.
  4. Tap Reset options icon.
  5. Choose from the following:
    • Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth
    • Reset app preferences
    • Erase all data (factory reset)
  6. Tap RESET SETTINGS. If prompted, enter the PIN, password or pattern.
  7. Tap RESET SETTINGS to confirm.

Consult your car dealership

There’s only so much that you can do on your end when it comes to Bluetooth issues, especially since 99% of the time, the problem is compatibility-related. Make sure to visit your car dealership to know if there’s something that they can do to help. Keep in mind that Chevrolet may not be the maker of the head unit in your car so they may have to recommend you to contact another company for help.

Problem #2: Google Pixel 2 XL won’t detect any Bluetooth device

Hello. I own a Google Pixel 2 XL. Lately I’ve been having trouble connecting my bluetooth to devices like head sets, cars, speakers etc. The first time this happened I selected the device I wished to connect to but it instantly disconnected. I tried multiple suggestions to get it to work like turning bluetooth off and on, putting it in safe mode, clearing bluetooth cache and data, putting it in recovery mode and clearing the cache partition, etc. And it finally started working again. However, now it stopped but now when the bluetooth tries to scan for another device there are no devices listed. My phone can’t detect any other bluetooth devices and can’t work. I’ve tried repeating what i did the first time when i had problems with bluetooth, but nothing worked.

Solution: There may be an issue with your phone’s Bluetooth functionality. We suggest that you  return the phone’s software infomation to their defaults and see what happens afterwards. Be sure to create a backup of your files before wiping the phone.

To factory reset your Google Pixel 2 XL:

  1. Ensure that the phone is turned off.
  2. Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons until the bootloader mode appears then release. It’s represented by an Android bot image with Start label on top.
  3. Press the Volume Down button to select Recovery mode then press the Power button to confirm selection. After doing so, your phone will flash the Google start screen momentarily then restarts in Recovery Mode.
  4. When you see the Android bot image with an exclamation point inside a red triangle with No Command label beneath, press and hold the Power button.
  5. Press the Volume Up button once then release the Power button.
  6. Use the Volume button to select Wipe data/factory reset option from the Android Recovery screen.
  7. Select Yes to confirm.
  8. Wait until the factory data reset process is finished.
  9. Select Reboot System Now.

Now that your phone has been reset, check how Bluetooth works before you add any app to the system. If it works fine, then you know the issue is most likely caused by an app or software glitch.

If Bluetooth fails to work right after a factory reset, that means you have a hardware issue. Call Google so they can repair or replace the phone.

How to fix a Google Pixel 2 that started running slow (easy steps)

When it comes to performance, your Google Pixel 2 is inherently fast and smooth. Google made it that way and that’s what you should get. However, we have readers who emailed us seeking for assistance because their devices reportedly started to run very slowly. Issues like this are very annoying because they will prevent you from doing your usual activities in your phone. Thus, you need to address it immediately to bring your Pixel 2 back to its optimum performance.

In this post, I will walk you through in troubleshooting your Google Pixel 2 that started to run slow. We will consider every possibility and rule them out one by one until we can determine the reason why it has become so slow and formulate a solution to deal with it. Based on experience, performance issues are basically easy to fix so there’s a chance you can fix it on your own without employing the services of a technician. How to troubleshoot Google Pixel 2 that’s running so slow

Performance issues are normal even for premium phones like the Pixel 2 it’s because there are several factors we need to consider to determine why it’s happening in the first place. Below are the things you need to do to know the problem and hopefully fix it…

First solution: Find out if it’s due to some third-party apps

Applications may cause your phone to perform poorly especially if there are already a bunch of them running in the background. Most of the time, heavy apps are the ones that cause this kind of problem especially CPU-intensive games. In Android, when you’re using an app and you press the home button to return to the home screen, the app is actually just “minimized” and not closed. So it continues to run in the background and use CPU and RAM. If you have several apps that run in the background, you may feel that your phone has become sluggish with random instances of freezes and lags.

  1. To view the most recently used apps, tap the Recent apps button Home recent apps icon (located in the lower-right) and scroll through the list of apps.
  2. Scroll through the list of apps, hold the app then swipe the screen left or right.

After doing this and your Pixel 2 is still sluggish, then you need to run it in Safe mode to temporarily disable all third-party apps.

  1. With the device powered on, press and hold the Power button (located on the right-edge) until the Power off prompt appears then release.
  2. Touch and hold Power off until the “Reboot to safe mode” prompt appears then release.
  3. Tap OK to confirm.
  4. Note The restart process may take up to 45 seconds to complete.
  5. Note Upon restart, “Safe mode” appears in the lower-left of the unlock/home screen.

Continue using your phone while it’s in safe mode to know if the problem is caused by third-party apps. If the problem is seems fixed while it’s in this mode, then it’s confirmed that it’s due to third-party apps. Find those apps that uninstall them.

  1. From a Home screen, tap the Arrow icon to display all apps.
  2. Navigate: Settings > Apps & notifications .
  3. Tap See all ‘xx’ apps.
  4. Tap an app that you think causes the problem.
  5. Tap Uninstall.
  6. Tap OK to confirm.

On the other hand, if your Pixel 2 is still running slow while in safe mode, then the problem could be with the firmware. Try the next procedure.

Second solution: Wipe cache partition

Doing this will delete all system caches or temporary files created by the firmware to help your device run smoothly. These are prone to corruption and when it happens, performance issues may occur including freezes, lags, sluggishness and even app crashes. It is important that you try doing this procedure as it has a similar effect as with a reset only that it won’t delete all your files and data:

  1. Turn off your Google Pixel 2.
  2. Once off, press the power and volume down button together for some time.
  3. This will turn the device on and you need to hold both the buttons till the Google Pixel 2 logo disappears.
  4. After this, simply wait for the time till your device boots into the recovery mode.
  5. Next, you can choose the language of your choice.
  6. Next is to tap on the “Wipe Data and Cache” option.
  7. After this, simply tap on the “Wipe Cache” option.

Third solution: Perform the Master reset

After doing the procedures above and your phone is still running so slow, then you should backup all your files and data that are stored in your phone’s internal storage. You need to reset your device to fix this problem.

  1. Ensure the device is powered off.
  2. Press and hold the Power+Volume Down buttons until bootloader mode (image of an Android with Start above it) appears, then release.
  3. Select Recovery mode.
  4. Use the Volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the Power button to select.
  5. The device will flash the Google start screen momentarily and then restarts in Recovery mode.
  6. If presented with an image of a broken Android with “No Command” shown on the screen, press and hold the Power button. Press the Volume Up button once then release the Power button.
  7. From the Android Recovery screen, select Wipe data/factory reset.
  8. Select Yes and then allow several minutes for the factory data reset process to complete.
  9. Select Reboot system now.
  10. Allow several minutes for the factory data reset and reboot processes to complete.

  6. Reboot your phone then try to connect to the Internet.

You may also consider contacting your modem or wireless router manufacturer  if you notice some unusual behaviours on the network equipment like often losing signal, heating up so fast, and the like. If you can’t reach the device manufacturer, then contact your Internet service provider instead.

Reboot your Google Pixel 2 (soft reset).

A soft reset can help eliminate apps glitches and minor issues on the software that might have affected your phone’s wireless capability. No data will be affected in the process, thus it’s safe. For starters, here’s how to reboot or soft reset your Google Pixel 2:

  1. Press and hold the Power button on the right side of the phone.
  2. Tap the option to Power off.

  • To force your Google Pixel 2, press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds until it power cycles or when the Android logo appears.

Verify network settings on your Google Pixel 2.

Make sure other relevant settings are properly configured. Among the settings to look into on your phone aside from Wi-Fi are Airplane Mode or Power Saving Mode.

Other connectivity features including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi will automatically be disabled or unavailable when Airplane mode is turned on. So make sure it is turned OFF.

To turn Airplane Mode or Flight mode on or off, slide your two fingers downwards starting from the top of the screen, then press the Airplane Mode icon to turn the feature on or off.

Another thing that you should consider checking is the battery saver mode. To save power whenever your device’s battery gets low, you can set your Google Pixel 2 to activate battery saver automatically or at any time, when necessary. While doing so can help extend battery life on your device, it also limits its functionalities. You won’t be able to use Google Maps navigation, location services, email, messaging, or other apps that sync with battery saver on. To rule this out from the possible causes, try to turn it off then see what happens. Here’s how to get there:

  1. Swipe down from the top of your phone screen.
  2. Tap the Battery Saver icon.

Note: You will know when battery saver is on if the top and bottom of your screen turn orange. If it is, then tap the Battery Saver icon to the feature OFF for a moment.

Try to connect to the Internet with Battery saver off and see if you can. If it works or you are able to access the Internet through Wi-Fi with battery saver off, charge your device first then use the Internet again when the battery gets full.

Forget wireless network on your Google Pixel 2.

Another effective solution to wireless connectivity issues in mobile devices is to forget the wireless network and then reconnect. The only downside of this process is that you’ll lose your wireless network information including Wi-Fi networks and passwords. On the positive side, you will likely have the problem resolved afterwards. If you wish to give it a try, take note of your Wi-Fi passwords then follow these steps:

  1. Tap the Arrow Up icon from the Home screen to show all apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Network & Internet.
  4. Tap Wi-Fi.
  5. Touch and hold the Wi-Fi network you want to forget or remove.
  6. Tap the option to Forget network.
  7. Reboot your device then add the Wi-Fi network to connect to with these steps:
  8. Tap the Arrow Up icon from the Home screen to show all apps.
  9. Tap Settings.
  10. Tap Network & Internet.
  11. Tap Wi-Fi.
  12. Make sure the Wi-Fi switch is turned on.
  13. From the Wi-Fi networks section, tap the preferred network or add it manually.
  14. If prompted, enter the correct password for the network then tap Connect.

Wait until your device is connected then try to navigate to a website using your mobile app browser to see if you can now access the Internet.

Reset network settings on your Google Pixel 2

If you still cannot connect to Wi-Fi after performing the previous steps, then you may now consider a network settings reset. Doing so will erase all your current network settings and restore the default options afterwards. If you want to give it a shot, backup your network information then follow these steps:

  1. Tap the Arrow Up icon from the Home screen to view all apps.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Tap System.
  4. Tap Reset or the Reset icon.
  5. Tap Network settings reset.
  6. Tap Reset Settings.
  7. If prompted, enter the correct passcode to continue.
  8. Tap Reset Settings again to confirm action.

Your device will reboot when the reset completes. If not, then restart your device instead.

Resetting network settings can help fix problems with no Internet connection, as well as unable to send or receive emails or messages on the device. Bluetooth, Cellular and Wi-Fi network settings including saved networks and passwords are cleared or restored to default values afterwards.

How to fix Google Pixel 2 texting issues: won’t send text messages

Hello Google Pixel fans! Today’s short troubleshooting article will deal with some of the more common issues on the #GooglePixel2. The main issue we want to cover in this post is about two similar situations wherein a Pixel 2 is unable to send SMS. This type of problem can be caused by a number of factors so there’s no universal fix that can be provided all at once. Our solutions below are all situational and depends on the circumstances mentioned by users. We hope you’ll find them helpful.

Problem #1: How to fix Google Pixel 2 texting issues: won’t send text messages, other people can’t hear during calls

Hi. I’ve been having issues with my Google Pixel 2 for a few weeks now. It will sometimes not send messages or let me do anything with my mobile data even though it is showing that I have full signal and 4G. Sometimes I won’t receive a message for hours even though messages that have been sent after that one will come through fine. And now I am also not able to hear anything on calls, not even the ringing, and the people on the other end can’t hear me either. I’ve had the phone for about a year and a half and I have done a full factory reset and the issue is still happening.

Solution: As the issues happen randomly and inconsistently, the most likely reason is network- or service-related. That factory reset did not do anything to help is a clear indicator that this is not a device issue. The area where you are located may be getting poor cellular coverage, or there’s an on-going issue on your network operator’s side. We suggest that you work with carrier’s technical support team to find out what’s going on. They’re the only support team that can help you directly and effectively in this situation.

Problem #2: How to fix a Google Pixel 2 that can’t send a text message

Hi. I have the same problem as your posted question with my son not receiving my text messages but everyone elses. And on my phone messages are shown as sent. My number is not blocked on his phone. But when I go into “block number” I can see “Inbox” where my sent messages are. But I cannot reach them. They are not shown in the “Conversation” mode. My son has a Galaxy S6. I have a Google Pixel. My son’s phone used to be mine. We both have carrier “3”. Sweden.

Solution: You may changed some settings on your text messaging app, or a bug may have developed causing the problem. To fix the problem, follow our suggestions below.

Clear cache or data of text messaging app

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up to display all apps.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Tap Apps & notifications.
  4. Tap Up arrow icon See all ‘xx’ apps.
  5. Tap the appropriate app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear cache or Clear data. Note This option may not be available for some apps.

Use another text messaging app

If the problem won’t be fixed by wiping its cache or data, consider using another app to receive your SMS and MMS. There are many free text messaging apps in the Play Store for this purpose but be careful with your choice. Be sure to use only one that comes from a good or reputable company.

Master Reset

If both solutions above won’t improve the situation, don’t hesitate to do a more drastic solution — factory reset or master reset. As the name suggests, this solution will return all software settings to their defaults. Since the cause is most probably software in nature, this should help.

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down key with your phone powered off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key with the Volume Down key held down.
  3. Release both keys when the Android screen appears.
  4. Press the Volume keys to scroll to and highlight Recovery mode option.
  5. Then press the Power key to confirm selection.
  6. Press and hold the Power key again when the No command message appears.
  7. Then press and release the Volume Up key while holding the Power key.
  8. When the Android Recovery screen appears, release the Power key.
  9. Press the Volume Down key to scroll to and highlight Wipe data/factory reset option.
  10. Then press the Power key to confirm selection.
  11. Wait until the data wiping is finished and once it’s completed, the Reboot system now option is highlighted.
  12. Press the Power key to reboot your device.

IMPORTANT: Factory reset will erase your data such as photos, videos, documents, contacts. Be sure to back them up to your Google account first before wiping the phone.

Problem #3: Google Pixel 2 can’t receive messages when using stock Email app

Hi. I have a new Google Pixel 2 which for some strange reason will not permit my gmail emails to come through to my email account. The emails come thru fine on the gmail app but when I sign in with my password on the email account I just get a message which says “sign in failed”. I have tried to go thru all the email settings but nothing helps. The rep at the cell phone outlet is unable to assist me. I previously had a little Galaxy J1 2016 where the gmail’s came thru on gmail and email simultaneously. But it will not do it on the Pixel. Very frustrating indeed as I prefer to access my emails thru email and not gmail. Any suggestions how to fix this issue. Thank you.

Solution: You may need to re-add your email account to the Email app. The “sign-in failed” error usually occurs if there’s an authentication issue when logging in. we’ve noticed this issue happening for accounts that has extra security enabled. If you enabled two-step verification or similar additional security on your email account, we suggest that you disable them first. After that, try adding your email to the Email app. Once the email account has been successfully added and you  can start receiving email again using your Email app, log in to email account using your computer or your phone’s browser and enable additional security once again.

If this workaround won’t help in fixing the issue, contact your email provider and ask them to troubleshoot the issue for you. There may be some issues on their end that prevents your account from being added to the Email app, or from working properly in this email app.

Problem #4: Google Pixel 2 unable to receive MMS from iPhone

I previously had a galaxy prime and had this same issue. I recently bought this Pixel phone and have the same issue. I am able to send and receive pictures and texts to other people that have iphones but are not able to get pictures from the same iphone.  I can get texts but not MMS messages. I have my data turned on. I don’t know what else to do. I tried to deactivate my phone number from the iphone site in case my number used to be used by an iphone. I have never had an iphone and have had this phone number for close to 15 years.  I would love some insight as to what else I can do. Thanks.

Solution: If your Google Pixel sends and receives SMS to this particular iPhone fine, the problem must be coming from that iPhone and not your device. It may not be set properly to switch regular text messaging when sending MMS and may still be trying to send MMS using iMessage. You can ask this iPhone-using contact to ensure that his or her iPhone device is configured properly not to use iMessage when sending a message to you.

Problem #5: Google Pixel 2 won’t support a work app

My work app propertyware isn’t tracking like it’s supposed to. Also I keep getting a picture closed error once in a while. could these be related? Nobody can figure out why neither are working properly. Can you help? Supposedly, my phone version doesn’t work sometimes with the app version for work. however it did until July 3rd and all of a sudden it doesn’t. 9 months works fine.

Solution: If it’s a company app, you should probably talk directly to your IT or the app developer to see if there’s an incompatibility issue that causes the problems.
