Samsung Galaxy S5 alarm app stopped working after updating to Lollipop
Problem: I have a Galaxy S5 Model SM-G900P, Android Version 5. Since the System Update on Saturday February 28, 2015 my alarm app no longer works. When I tap on the widget “Tap here to add alarm” it takes me to the Alarm screen where I would normally tap the plus sign to add an alarm. When I do so I get a pop-up that says “Unfortunately, Clock has stopped.”
I travel three to five days a week and for years my phone has been my travel alarm. This is really annoying. Thanks. — Bill
Troubleshooting: Hi Bill. Please clear the cache of your alarm app. If you don’t know the steps, here’s how:
- Go to Home screen.
- Open the Apps list.
- Go to Settings.
- Go to Applications.
- Touch Application manager.
- Look for the app in question.
- Tap Clear data.
- Tap OK.
- Tap Clear cache.

Google Calendar in Samsung Galaxy S5 no longer works
Problem: Hi. I hope you can help me with this.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and use Google Calendar (desktop and the calendar app that came with my phone and sync Google with it).
Up until about a month ago, everything worked flawlessly.
I would add an event on my Google Desktop calendar, set a SMS reminder, it would sync with my phone and the appropriate time, send me a text message reminder.
NOW, I no longer get my SMS text reminders. I have tried everything I can think of to get this working again, but nothing seems to work.
Any suggestions you can give me will be greatly appreciated, or alternately, another calendar app that works better and will send me SMS reminders that I need. Thanks. — Belinda
Troubleshooting: Hi Belinda. If this problem happened after updating to Lollipop, try to clear the app’s cache by following the instructions provided for the previous issue. If that does not help, try to update the app if there’s an option for it.
Alternatively, you can also contact the developer directly to let them know this problem exists after an update to Lollipop.

Samsung Galaxy S5 update crashes phone and shortens battery life
Problem: I have a Galaxy S5 from Verizon and I got the new update that came out. I don’t know if it is the update itself or not but my phone is overheating, the battery is dying very quickly, my phone freezes and is extremely laggy. Along with all that, before the update my messages came up as a notification and a screen so I could reply to messages while running apps and if I ignored the message it would be in the way of the app as i scrolled down or kept playing games, whatever, until i replied, exed out, or viewed the message. Now I don’t even notice a notification and if one pops up its there for like 2 seconds and disappears. My phone wont vibrate either even with vibrate on. Is this part of the update or a personal phone issue. — Lindsey
Troubleshooting: Hi Lindsey. If the update you mention here is the new Android Lollipop, try to do the following solutions to see which one works best:
Wipe cache partition. Deleting the cache partition is usually recommended after updating the operating system to minimize file clutter and prevent lag or performance issues. Wiping cache partition is also helpful in making the opening of your phone apps significantly faster. Here are the steps on how to do it:
- Turn off the phone by holding the Power button.
- Wait for the device to fully shut down (for probably 45 seconds).
- Press and hold the following buttons: Power, Volume up, and Home.
- Once the phone vibrates, release the Power button but keep holding the rest until the menu with options appears.
- Go to Wipe cache partition using the Volume down button and select it using the Power button.
- Confirm to Reboot the system.
- Wait for the phone to fully reboot.
Perform Safe Mode. It’s a good idea to consider if third party apps may be causing the problems you mentioned. Please follow this link on how to perform Safe Mode on a Samsung Galaxy S5.
Use power saving mode. To address your battery life problem, try using the built-in power saving modes on your phone. There are two such modes in your Samsung Galaxy S5: Power saving and Ultra power saving. Keep in mind though that using any of these modes sacrifices phone performance to give you more battery life. If your phone keeps on draining battery power at critical parts of the day, try to switch to Ultra power saving mode. This takes away all the “smart” features on your phone as well as keeping the device’s processors at a minimum but should give you a much needed power boost.

Performance and charging issues after Samsung Galaxy S5 updated to Lollipop
Problem: Good day! I am completely frustrated & hope you can help. I have checked out the DroidGuy site but was unable to get the info I need. Ever since I updated my phone (I believe it’s the Lollipop update) I’ve been having major issues. My phone is having charging issues, it’s become dial up slow to open apps, I’m not getting all my texts or emails, apps are very slow when functioning or they freeze, the phone gets really hot in a very short time, etc. Please help! I work at a hospital & need a functioning phone. I’m at the point of going back to an iPhone. Respectfully. — Robin
Troubleshooting: Hi Robin. If the problems you have are being caused by the Lollipop update, kindly follow the solutions we recommend for Lindsey above. If any of these will not work, please do a factory reset so can clear up your phone’s file directory that may be causing the performance issue.
Afterwards, make sure to fully update all your apps to ensure that they are fully compatible with Lollipop. You want to perform Safe mode procedure again after doing a factory reset and re-downloading of all your apps to check if a third party application may be the cause.
Please get back to us through email if our solutions won’t work.

Battery drains faster on Samsung Galaxy S5 when left unused overnight
Problem: Hi! I found your website and read through the answers posted, but my issue is a little different . I’ve had the phone for 4-6 months and just this week it’s started shutting off/running out of battery overnight. This makes no sense because it’s not being used, it’s fine all day when in heavy use, and it often has plenty of battery life left (last night there was 77% battery before I went to bed and it was still drained and shut down in the morning). It used to be fine with as little as 10% battery over night. Any idea why this suddenly started and how to fix it? Thanks! — Sarah
Troubleshooting: Hi Sarah. Have you downloaded any app (first or third party) before you noticed the problem? If you did, please ensure that that app is fully updated. If the problem continues though, try to perform Safe Mode on your phone before you sleep at night and leave it that way. Because Safe Mode forces your phone to run only trusted apps, this is a good way to determine if our suspicion is right on.
Another good practice you can start doing (if haven’t already) is turning off of the phone’s Wi-Fi or Data connections before you sleep. Doing would help save your phone’s battery life significantly.
Checking your apps sync options is also a potential solution. If you have lots of apps that need online connection to update something, there’s a big chance that they are the ones causing the fast battery drain issue you have here. Kindly check the sync options of each app to see if there’s something that you can disable as far as syncing automatically is concerned. This is applicable to email apps, some games, and any other apps that requires regular communications to some remote servers.
If all else fails, try to factory reset your phone. Keep in mind that factory reset will delete everything on your phone so make sure that you have created a copy of your personal files before proceeding.

Emails are getting deleted from account when messages are deleted in Samsung Galaxy S5
Problem: I recently got an S5 Galaxy but I am finding when I delete an email off my phone using the standard email app on the phone it is actually deleting my emails from my full website account so they are completely gone from my inbox. How do I stop this from happening as I just want to delete off my phone and not actually from my account. I never had this problem with my S4 when I delete from my phone they where still there when I logged on through my computer.
Can you help with this problem? Regards. — Adam
Troubleshooting: Hi Adam. If you are using one of the popular email accounts in the Web today like Gmail, Hotmail, Outlook, Live, and Yahoo, chances are you have enabled the option in your webmail account to delete your messages permanently on the email server as well as on your device. This means that the moment you tell the phone to delete the email from its local directory, the same message is also being deleted in the remote server hosting your messages. By default, this is not the case so what you can do is to visit your email account options and find the appropriate setting to reverse the process.
We noticed that you are using a Live account in sending this email so if this is the same account you are having problems with, kindly follow the steps below on what to do:
- Log in to your Live account.
- Click the gear icon on the upper right hand side.
- Under Managing your account section, click the option that says Connect devices and apps with POP.
- Enable POP.
- Enable the option under Deleting downloaded messages that says Don’t let devices or apps delete messages from Outlook.com. If the app or device is set to delete, Outlook.com will move the messages to a special POP folder instead.
Upon doing this, your phone will no longer be authorized to delete your messages from Live server unless you access the webmail version on it and delete messages from there.
If you have another email that is not Hotmail, Live, MSN, or Outlook, please let us know in another email so we can try to check it out for you.

Performance issues observed after updating to Lollipop
Problem: Hey, I’ve just gotten the beautiful app of Drippler. However, I am so behind on the Samsung troubleshoot / glitches etc I just wanted to know whether there is a solution for the following:
– Phone has slowed down dramatically since the update and I have over 20gb free space
– I keep getting : contacts has stopped message
– Screen blacks out on random occasions
– The phone generally isn’t as smooth as before the update.
I am hoping this is due to the update and there are bugs 🙁 🙁 — Orlstyne
Troubleshooting: Hi Orlstyne. If the update you are talking about is the Lollipop update, your best course of action here is to reset the phone to its factory defaults. This solution is aimed at minimizing the bugs on a device following a major update like Lollipop.
All the issues you mentioned here are chronic bugs that many users observed after updating to Lollipop. Many devices tend to slow down a bit after using Lollipop and all that Samsung and Google can suggest is by doing a factory reset.
If you have no idea how to do it, please follow the steps by clicking on this link.

Call conferencing not enabled on Bharti Airtel Samsung Galaxy S5
Problem: Hi. I’ve been using an SKT Galaxy S5 (SM G900S) 4G LTE phone for almost 9 months now here in India & have Bharti Airtel as my service provider. The phone is great & working absolutely fine. However, I have never been able to use the call conferencing facility on it. This is despite the fact that it has been activated from the backend by Airtel. Initially i thought that maybe this issue would get resolved once firmware upgrade happens to Lollipop. But even after that I’m still unable to find the call conference option in call settings or Join option while in a call.
Kindly suggest what could be the issue & how could this be resolved. Thanks a bunch. Regards. — Sharon
Troubleshooting: Hi Sharon. Call conferencing is account and plan dependent which means that your service provider, Bharti Airtel, should help you set it up properly. We are positive that a “Merge” option during calls will show if this has been enabled or allowed by your service provider. This feature is not turned by default but a service provider can add it later to a subscription if it meets certain requirements.
Because Google recently released a new operating system in Lollipop, there’s a chance that Bharti Airtel may have missed to make call conferencing compatible with the new operating system.
Absence of call conferencing is not a Samsung problem because the phone is capable of doing it. However, Bharti Airtel has restricted it on your subscription so it’s best if you call them again to check on it.
For education purposes, here are the steps on how to do call conferencing on an S5:
- Press Call icon and go to the right to answer the call.
- Hit Call icon and go to the right to answer the next call.
- Press Put “Name/Number” on hold to put the first call on hold.
- Join the two callers into a single multi-party call by tapping Merge icon.
- If you want to temporarily leave the conference call, simply hit Menu icon then Hold.
- To rejoin the conference call tap Resume call.
- Tap End Call icon to end the call.

Samsung Galaxy S5 turns screen off after a few minutes of using
Problem: Hello! Just recently I started having trouble with a Galaxy S5. As soon as the screen turns off I no longer can get to get the screen on. I can lock the screen and unlock for a few minutes but then the screen will stay black and I no longer can get back on. The only way is taking the battery off and back on and turning the phone on. Has anyone else had this problem? Can you help me? — Lorie
Troubleshooting: Hi Lorie! You have an interesting case here. Have you tried to consider if the problem is the battery? If you can, try to see if you can use another battery and see if the problem continues.
If it’s not a battery issue, try to reset the phone to its factory defaults. If that won’t still work, have the LCD checked by a technician. Better still, have your phone checked by Samsung if they cannot replace it for you.
We believe there is no underlying software cause for this problem, especially that it works just fine after some time.

Purple:Player question by a Samsung Galaxy S5 user
Problem: Recently, I discovered that when I watch videos in my standard Purple video app on my Samsung S5 (Android 5.0) my touchscreen disappears immediately and only comes back for a few seconds when I press the off button twice (the moment it unlocks the screen). Do you have a solution or an idea for how I can get my touchscreen back permanently when I watch videos? It would be much appreciated! I found your email address on the website at the end/bottom of this email.
Kind regards. — Richard

Google Now issue on Samsung Galaxy S5 after Lollipop update
Problem: Hi. You guys are doing a great job. Thumbs up.
If you can help me in my issue that would be great.
I’ve S5 with Sprint and even before the Lollipop update Google Now has been having issues. It turns on when I say “OK Google” but then do not respond to my voice. It just doesn’t listen to anything I say, though it turns red and is in listening mode. If I restart the phone, it will work for the first attempt but after that it will not.
Secondly, most of the times when I press Recent apps button next to figure print sensor, I get a message “System UI has stopped working” and so I can’t switch from one app to another, and this is happening since Lollipop update.
I have reset the phone to Factory default, didn’t help. I called Google, Samsung, Sprint, but no one could help me. I hope you guys can find a solution. Thank you. — Jahanzeb
Troubleshooting: Hi Jahanzeb. Google Now is first party app so it’s best if we can get a direct answer from Google. We have tried to contact them about this but we are yet to receive a response from them. They have suggested to do a factory reset, which you already did, to try to resolve the problem.
Based on our list of issues after an update to Lollipop, you are our first reader to have reported this problem so it might be unique to your device as well. Have you tried considering a phone replacement?
We hate to speculate on causes but if an issue appears to be an isolated one, it’s always a good step to consider hardware replacement. If the phone is still under warranty, please call Sprint and have it replaced.
