Oppo has posted a teaser for the N1 Mini smartphone, with the camera being the focus of attention. Although the device is yet to go official, the company’s official Facebook page has the following to say – “Revolutionary 24 Mega Pixels Ultra HD Camera, Coming Soon!”
That’s pretty self explanatory and the accompanying image is also photography centric with the camera viewfinder being displayed on the screen. The camera being mentioned here is apparently a 13-megapixel sensor from Sony which can take photos at 24-megapixels. The Oppo Find 7 has a similar camera, but it is capable of taking 50-megapixel shots. This feat is achieved thanks to the Super Zoom mode embedded in the software, which allows users to take gorgeous close and long range shots.
We’re yet to get an official word on when the N1 Mini will break cover, but it seems like we’re not too far away given that the company is already teasing its arrival on social media.

Oppo has officially announced its upcoming device called the Oppo N1 Mini last May 30. The device is the smaller version of the company’s Oppo N1 and despite having the “mini” branding; it’s actually a pretty large device with a 5-inch display. The company came up with this model as the original N1 with its 6-inch display is reportedly unwieldy for most customers.
The Oppo N1 Mini shares several same features as the bigger version. The most notable feature is the same rotating camera that can be used for front or back shots. There’s also the touch pad feature on its back panel. This smaller version weighs in at 150 grams and supports LTE networks. It runs on Color OS 1.4 and comes with several interesting features such as a 13 MP Sony 6 lens camera with a 1/3.2″ sensor size (the same used in the N1). There’s also a Super Zoom mode that allows photos to be taken in 24MP quality.
Oppo has yet to announce the full features of this device. The company will be hosting an event this June 10 where it’s very likely that more details surrounding the N1 Mini will be revealed.
Right now we can only speculate as to what this model will be using. We already know that it will have a 5-inch display but we still don’t know what its resolution is going to be. Then there’s also the question as to what processor it will be using. Earlier reports suggest that the device will use a MediaTek MT6592 SoC while other reports suggest that it’s going to use an Exynos 5422 octa-core chipset. There’s also the possibility that the company may follow the standard set by the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact which is a smaller Z1 model that uses the same hardware specs.
The Oppo N1 Mini is expected to hit the market this coming June 11 with a still to be announced price.
It seems that a lot of Android manufacturing companies right now are jumping into the mini bandwagon. These are smaller, slightly underpowered versions of a company’s existing high-end device. Companies such as Samsung, HTC, LG, and Sony have mini model out in the market and it looks like Chinese company Oppo will soon be joining them with its upcoming Oppo N1 Mini smartphone.
We’ve previously heard rumors of an upcoming mini device from Oppo however this time an official announcement has been made by the company confirming its existence. Over at Chinese social media Weibo, the company confirmed that the Oppo N1 Mini will be announced this coming May 30. That’s only a few days away from today.
So what do we know about this upcoming mini device so far? For starters, it’s going to have the same swivel type camera as its larger brother as indicated by a photo rendering released by the company. This is a unique feature present in the Oppo N1 which allowed its 13MP camera to be rotated at 206 degrees and can lock securely into any angle. This not only saves the company from placing two cameras on one device but also allows the consumer to take front facing shots as good as rear shots.
The mini version will also have the same physical design as the original device. What it differs though is in its technical specs. Instead of a 5.9-inch display that is used by the N1 the mini version will have a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. The display is pretty large for a mini device and can easily pass for a full-fledged model.
The other specs of the device are only rumors so far. It’s reportedly going to use an octa-core processor, possibly made by MediaTek or it could also be Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa chip. There’s going to be two versions that will hit the market, a 3G and an LTE version. It’s also going to come with Bluetooth 4.0 features and will be using a 2140 mAh battery. The battery itself is said to provide 13 hours of talk time or 210 hours of standby time.
While little information about this device has surfaced what we do know is that it will be revealed in just a couple of days. For comparison purposes we have listed the specs of the Oppo N1 below which can be used to compare against its mini version.
