Note 5 Photos Are Blurry

Problem: Samsung Galaxy Note 5 I think I have a possible virus. My camera used to take super wonderful photos. Then suddenly my photos are blurry. When I take a photo the preview looks awesome, then open in gallery and they are very poor quality, this has been happening for about a week. Yesterday when I open the gallery some of my photos no longer load, the album is there but you can not see the photos just blank squares. I downloaded an app and had to delete it a day later due to a ton of pop up adds. since then I have experienced one teladoc add that refuses to go away, it locks the screen for a few seconds then resumes. I am thinking this has brought a virus which is causing all these issues. I looked for the cache button but there is not one on this phone under the camera or anything else, very strange. I have a 32 G and have only used 300KB so I am not overloaded. Need help to get my phone back to normal. I purchased my phone 3 yr ago. Android Version says only 7.0 none of the below options.

Solution: To fix this problem the first thing that you need to do is to make sure that the rear camera lens is free from any smudges or dirt by cleaning it using a microfiber cloth. Once this is done go to the application manager and look for the camera app. You need to clear the cache and data of the camera. As soons as this is done check if the issue still occurs. If it does then proceed with the following steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by a downloaded app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 5 Stuck In Download Mode

Problem: Verizon Galaxy Note 5 will only boot in download mode or with a screen that states “Software Update Failed”.  It will not power off.  It displays one of the above screens until the battery dies.  I have tried everything below to fix it.  Nothing works.

1 – Tried Verison Software Upgrade Assistant.  It said it could not upgrade the phone.

2 – Tried Odin with every firmware file imaginable.  They all seem to give the same error, “Complete(Write) operation failed.”  This occurs on the recovery.img file.  Here is the log file

3 – Tried Smart Switch and it stated it could not repair the device. I am ready to drive over this phone.  Is there any hope for complete restoring any kind of an operational firmware on it? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Solution: Try checking if you are able to boot the phone in recovery mode. From here you will need to wipe the cache partition of the phone then do a factory reset. In case this fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component already. You will need to bring this to a service center and have it checked.

Note 5 SIM Card Not Found Error

Problem: I have SIM card issues. A few months after I got the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 in June 2017, 1-3 times a day my phone will say “SIM card not found”. Sometimes, it will automatically read my SIM again and force me to restart. Other times, I have to physically pop open the SIM slot, do a bit of jiggling and then it’ll read. This has gotten in the way of normal functioning use of my phone and I’m super frustrated. I have factory reset my phone several times and I have replaced the SIM once. I have a manufacturer’s warranty but they want me to ship my phone to them for them to repair it and return it which will take at least a week – I need my phone daily for work. I have other insurance but they will not help as it is still covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.

Solution: Since you have already tried using a different SIM card and even performed a factory reset which does not fix the problem then this issue is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component. The best thing you can do right now is to have this checked at a service center.

Note 5 Does Not Boot After Getting Wet

Problem: Recently I dropped my phone into some rather deep water and thought the phone done for. Soon after however I got a response and the screen looks fine, all lights are working, but it refuses to go past boot screen and doesn’t seem to respond to any of the master reboot button combinations with the exception of the volume down, power to force it to power off. Anything else is seemingly random as i’ve gotten to the cache screen and did a factory reset once but not with the instructions given, and haven’t been able to replicate it. At one point it also seemingly attempted to download an operating system. Any help would be greatly appreciated though I think i’m safe in assuming I just need a replacement at this point.

Solution: The best thing that you can do right now is to place the phone in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours. The rice will absorb any moisture present inside the phone. Once this is done check if the phone can turn on. If it doesn’t then it is most likely water damaged. The best thing to do in this scenario is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 5 Battery Drains Quickly

Problem: Hello Droid Guy, have a Galaxy Note 5. When my phone is on, I charge to 100% and I notice my battery drains extremely quickly. About a week ago, I turned off my phone and noticed that it shows my battery percentage at 84%. Once I leave it to charge to 100% turned off, my battery life will work great, but I need to consistently turn off my phone, charge it, then turn on and use it. Any tips to get my battery life back to normal?

Solution: What you will want to do in this case is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone. Try checking first if the issue still occurs. If it does then your phone most probably needs to have the battery replaced.

Note 5 No Network

Problem: I got a note 5 from a person on cl selling it. It was registered on the tmobile network. I want to use straight talk so I called straight talk to see if the phone was able to switch to straight talk I was told yes via imei# and went n bought a byob I followed straight talk instructions added a plan to sim. Straight talk says sim is active with the plan but I can’t get a network n I was told now there was a billing issue with prior owner so now I have a phone new sim n a plan attached straight talk can see it but t mobile has it locked. How do I get tmobile off here and activate my straight talk service and get bars so I can make calls.

Solution: The phone is most likely still locked to the T-Mobile network. In order for this to run on the Straight Talk network you will need to have the phone unlocked.  This can be done for free by T-Mobile however since it has a billing issue then you should consider having the phone unlocked by a third party service provider.

Note 5 Battery Drains Quickly

Problem: My brother has a Samsung Galaxy Note 5, and the phone keeps malfunctioning. The battery percentage will go from a higher percentage to a way lower percentage (for example: 73% to 0%) even when the phone is not in use. The phone also continues to turn on and off. We have replaced the battery, but the same problems continue. We’ve tried resetting and everything else suggested based on replies to people with the same problems. Is there something that we could try that would fix the problems? Thanks in advance!

Solution: If you have already replaced the battery and performed a factory reset then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component possibly the power IC. The best thing that you can do right nowis to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 5 Does Not Turn On

Problem: Ive tried everything to get my phone to turn on but it still wont turn on. I did the system download that the phone does so often, and a week after that it wouldn’t turn back on after i turned it off due to a meeting I was attending.

Solution: The best thing to do right now is to make sure that the battery of the phone has sufficient charge by following the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in this port.
  • Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a wall charger.
  • If the phone does not charge then try using a different charging cord and wall charger. If the phone does not charge then try charging it from a computer USB port.

Once the phone has charged try turning it on by pressing and holding the power and volume down button for at least 10 seconds.

If the phone still does not turn on then you will need to have this checked at a service center.

Note 5 Not Completely Playing Ringtone

Problem: Hello, I just downloaded a new ringtone (mp3 format) to my PC, and it plays fine using Windows media player.  I copied the file over to my dropbox, then used dropbox to download it to my phone. The problem is my phone only plays the first couple of seconds of the ringtone, then stops.  I tried re-copying, and re-downloading the file (still plays fine on my PC), but the same results. Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks!

Solution: Try to check if the same issue occurs when you use the default phone ringtones. In case it doesn’t then the problem could be with the particular ringtone file you are using. In case the issue still occurs even with the default phone ringtones then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 5 Fast Wireless Charging Not Fully Charging Phone

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and use a Samsung wireless charger at night. My son occasionally uses the cord on his phone and eventually wore out the contacts. I replaced the cord to my wireless charger and my phone wont charge on it. It starts to charge, but quickly says “wireless charging paused.” On Cyber Monday, I bought a new Samsung wireless fast charger. It starts to charge when I put it on, but when I wake up in the morning, my battery is always low. What could be the problem?

Solution: What you should do right now is to check if the wireless charger that you bought is completely charging your phone. There might be an instance when the charging gets disconnected. This happens if the phone gets moved from the charging pad or if the charging cord used by the wireless pad and wall charger is loose.

In case you have observed the wireless charger completely charging the phone then the problem could be caused on the phone side.

The best way to proceed is to start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then there might be an app that you downloaded that is draining the battery. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

In case the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then I recommend that you try doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once this is done then try checking if the issue still occurs.

Note 5 Not Working Unless Plugged To Charger

Problem: dunno what happen to my note 5.. i am used it this morning i charge it until it fully charge suddenly.. if you remove the icharger i cannot use my phone. unless you will connect the phone again to my charger. please do something about my concern

Solution: It looks like this problem is caused by a faulty battery or power IC. To check if this is the case you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. If after the reset the issue still occurs then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 5 Lots Of Pop Up Apps

Problem: Since the nov.29 update I have had many issues. Lots of pop up apps just when I open the text messages. Also will mute itself. Won’t let me finish typing a message.just like this one. I have deleted many apps I do not use. Also a delay in typing and seeing it .sure hope you can help me

Solution: If you have apps that pop up then it’s likely that your phone has some malware or adware in it. The best way to fix this is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 5 Screen Is Black

Problem: My note 5’s screen has gone completely black. I have attempted some of your recommendations however am unable to do the ones that have me turning off the phone as I need to see the “power off” button, which is impossible because the screen is black.

Solution: With the screen still black try accessing the recovery mode. If the screen works in this mode then I recommend doing a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data. If this doesn’t fix the problem then the problem could be caused by a damaged display. You will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 5 Keeps Notifying Of Charger Connected

Problem: The device constantly beeps that the charger is being connected whether connected to charger or not. At one point the Gear VR startup and install screen popped up. Allowed it to install and did not make an account. After checking a similar problem here, I Uninstalled, cleared cache, and rebooted. After a short time, it continued. A brand new charger was purchased in the midst of this with the same result

Solution: There are two possible reasons why this is happening. It could be caused by a faulty charging port or a glitch in the phone software. Since it’s easier to check for possible software issues that can contribute to this problem then this is what we will be troubleshooting first. Follow the steps listed below then move to the next step if the problem still occurs.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. When your phone is working in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. Check if the issue occurs. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Restart the phone then check if the issue still occurs.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then it’s time to focus our attention on the phone hardware. For this particular issue what you can do is to clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure any dirt or debris that could be stuck in this port is totally removed. Once this is done check if the issue still occurs.

Should the above steps fail to fix the problem then I suggest that you bring your phone to a service center since this might already be caused by a defective charging port.

Note 5 Keeps On Rebooting When Charging

Problem: Good morning, My problem is that my Note 5, when plugged in, will use whatever power it has to try to reboot. It loses its charge when it tries, crashes, and tries again. Cycle repeats. I charged it overnight and it never got past 0%. When plugged in, I mostly see the charge battery symbol and the 0% battery symbol and every once in awhile it gets to the Galaxy Note 5 bootup screen, but doesn’t make it anywhere past that. I’ve tried holding down volume down+home button and that didn’t do anything. Trying the master reset (volume up+home+power) got me a different screen, but it promptly crashed and the cycle repeated. It’s still doing the same thing. Help! Thank you,  (I’m not sure if my phone is Nougat version…I keep it updated, so I only assume it’s that)

Solution: From the way you describe the issue this looks to be caused by a hardware problem possibly due to a shorted circuit whenever the charger is connected to the phone. To troubleshoot this problem try cleaning the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. You should remove any dirt or debris that could be present in this port as it could cause this kind of problem. Once the port has been cleaned check if the issue still occurs. You should also try using a different charging cord and wall charger to eliminate the possibility that the charger is causing this issue.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then I suggest that you have your phone checked at a service center.

Note 5 Battery Drains Quickly

Problem: I have a problem on my Samsung Note-5. Before going to sleep i charged 100 Percent of battery, but when i wake up it’s was falling to 50 percent only. So that i tried Factory reset , also wipe cache . But its can not be solved. I checked in Smart manager application that battery was drained due to Stay awake function in Android OS. So.. How can i stop or clear that Stay awake function. Thanks

Solution: Is your phone display on when you leave it overnight? If it is then this could be causing the battery drain issue as the display is one of the biggest battery hogs in your device.

There is a Stay Awake function in your phone but it has to be accessed from the developer options. If this menu isn’t available in your device here’s how to activate it.

  • Go to the Homescreen, select on Menu and then Android Settings.
  • Browse for “Device Information.”
  • Select on the entry and you’ll see a “build number.”
  • Tap on “build number” several times quickly.
  • On the seventh tap an information box on the screen will appear with: “Developer options unlocked.”

Once you have the Developer option unlocked you can disable stay awake by unchecking its box.

If the problem still persists then try doing another round of factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete don’t install anything in your device yet. Instead, try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then you may have to consider having the battery of your phone replaced.

Note 5 Does Not Charge

Problem: I just bought the phone Samsung Note 5 until last week the phone was working just fine and then it started acting up and stopped charging fast . One of my friend showed how to do a wipe cache and help me to update the phone. Everything went back to normal until Saturday night the battery died I tried to charge it but it won’t and still hasn’t charge since Sunday. My friend advised me to do a wipe cache once again . I have done still it had not fix anything.

Solution: Here’s what you need to do if your phone does not charge.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris present in the port gets removed.
  • Try using a different charging cord.
  • Try using a different wall charger.
  • Check if your phone charges via the USB port of your computer. If it does then one of the charging port pin of your phone ( the one responsible for fast charging) might already be faulty. Have this checked at a service center.\

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center.

Note 5 Battery Drains Very Fast

Problem: Hi, My 11th month Samsung Galaxy Note 5 started to drain battery super fast in October (last month). I sent to the Service Center downtown for 2 times and still the same.  Then someone recommended me to have it repaired at another Service Center as was told this service center is ‘better’. So I decided to send to this  branch for another 3 times !   All in all, I had sent in 5 times and still the same problem occurring. Battery and motherboard have been changed twice during this duration. The 5th time was referred to so called ‘HQ’. Problem still exists that when I full charge to 100% before midnight and leave it through the night without using it, next morning at 6 am, it will be something like 10% left !!! I just have half the mind of throwing this into the rubbish bin, since it is not serving any purposes ! I don’t think Samsung is great these days.

Solution: There are many possible reasons why the battery drain issue remains unresolved. The replacement battery and motherboard might also have an issue. There could be a shorted circuit in the charging port which is draining the battery power. Since this is very likely a hardware issue already the only thing left that you can do is to find a service center that’s knowledgeable in board level repairs and have your phone checked there.

Note 5 Intermittent Charging

Problem: So, this is going to sound somewhat strange but essentially what’s happening is when I put my phone on my charger it begins to charge then it stops charging, and from there it will begin to rapidly switch between charging and not charging. I have a feeling it may be because of the moisture in the air (it’s been very rainy where I am as of late and my windows have remained open for the past week or so.) I’ve tried a different charger in another part of the house and it began doing the same as my charger but then after a few seconds it’s began charging just fine. Any idea of what might be the issue, or if it is the moisture?

Solution: It’s possible that moisture can cause this issue however there are also other factors that could cause thi problem. First and foremost, if the phone intermittently charges then the charging cable should be checked first. This is because this cord gets easily damaged. Try using a different charging cord then see if this fixes the problem.

Dirt stuck in the phone’s charging port can also affect the way the device charges. Clean this port using a can of compressed air or by blowing into it using a straw.

There’s also a possibility that this issue is caused by a glitch in the phone software. If this is the case I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should have the phone checked at a service center.

Note 5 Will Not Turn On

Problem: My phone was working fine last night. I plugged it in to charge and went to sleep. I woke up this morning and while my phone appears to be on (the light on the top left corner is flashing green) it won’t do anything. I tried both to reboot and power down the phone by using the little menu that pops up when you hold the volume and power key and it never actually turns off. When I select reboot phone normally the black samsung galaxy note 5 screen pops up and just stays there. forever. When I select power down the screen goes black, but the green light continues blinking. I tried selecting reboot in safe mode, and it has been displaying the black samsung galaxy note 5 screen for 20 minutes. Is finding a solution in my own a lost cause? Is it dead?

Related Problem: My samsung note 5 just shut off and then went into reboot loop but only goes as far as the logo screen.  The battery keeps draining when go to charge it it gets extremely hot.  I leaving to go out of the country in a few days and get this fixed

Solution: Try connecting your phone to its charger for at least 20 minutes then turn it on. If it doesn’t turn on then try starting the phone in recovery mode. If you are able to access this mode then I recommend that you do a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data.

If the above steps fail to fix the issue then I suggest you have the phone checked at a service center.

Note 5 Charger Plugged In Error

Problem: Problem started with the Power Sharing app installation notice.  I did not install the app but restarted the phone and the notifications stopped.  Now, every so often I hear the phone “charger plugged in” notification sound with the blue indication on the screen. That’s all, but it happens so often that it is getting very irritating.  Can this issue be resolved with software or is it a hardware issue?

Solution: This problem is usually caused by a hardware issue concerning the charging port. If you are getting the charger pluggedin notification even if no charger is connected then try cleaning the charging port of your phone first using a can of compressed air or by blowing into it using a straw. Make sure to remove any dirt that could be present in this port. If the issue still occurs then try checking if a glitch in the phone software is causing this by doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then have the phone checked at a service center.

Note 5 Battery Drains Quickly

Problem: I was having a dramatic battery drain rapidly.  I cannot say if it was after an update or not.    I did the clear cache in safe mode and the battery life improved significantly.  Thus, it appears that maybe an application is to blame.  How do I isolate which one it is?

Solution: You will need to do a trial and error method to isolate the third party app. Uninstall one app then check if the issue still occurs. Repeat this until you get to an app where the issue doesn’t occur anymore. That app is causing the problem.
