Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Restart Loop After Marshmallow Update Issue & Other Related Problems

Android phone manufacturers aren’t really known for quickly releasing timely software updates. #Samsung however is doing its best to continuously update the software of their phone’s by releasing updates even to two year old devices. The #Galaxy #Note4 for example which was released in 2014 was first running on Android KitKat then now has been updated to Android Marshmallow. Getting these update on the device is generally highly recommended since it improves the overall performance of the phone and increases its security. Sometimes though certain issues can occur when the phone is running on a new software version which is what we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy Note 4 restart loop after Marshmallow update issue & other related problems.

Note 4 Restart Loop After Marshmallow Update

Problem: Hello. I recently completed the software update of Marshmallow 6.0.1 on my Note 4. Since this update my phone stutters between apps like messages and gmail. My phone also goes through a restart loop in a short amount of time of the phone operating normally. I wiped the cache partition, restarted phone and nothing changed. I uninstalled all apps that weren’t on the phone, restarted and had the same problem. Ive also reset to factory settings and I still have the same problems. My phone never had these issues prior to the update but since day 1 my Note 4 can’t be used.

Solution: Does your phone have a microSD card installed? If it does then try removing it as this could be causing the problem.

You should also check if the battery is causing the problem by connecting your phone to its charger then check if the issue occurs. If it doesn’t then you should try replacing the battery.

Another troubleshooting step to consider is to manually flash the previous software version to your phone. This way you can check if the update itself is causing the problem. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular online forums online.

Note 4 AT&T Unlocked Version Not Getting Software Update

Problem: I currently own a Samsung Note 4 purchased at at&t in the United states. I currently live outside of the US. I have been trying to update my phone but always get the same answer that my phone is currently up to date. Please help me if you can. Thank you very much.

Solution: In order for your phone to get the official software update there are certain conditions that must be met which are listed below.

  • Your phone must not be rooted
  • Your phone must not be running on a custom software
  • If this is an unlocked device then it should be running on its original network so that it can access the carrier’s update servers.

If your phone doesn’t meet the conditions listed above you can try updating it by backing up your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete connect your phone to a computer with Kies running then let the software do the update.

Should the phone fail to update then you should consider manually flashing the updated firmware file to the phone. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 4 Will Not Come Out Of Boot Mode

Problem: I desperately need your help. My Galaxy Note 4 will not come out of boot mode. I found your your website and i did the 1st step with taking the battery out and holding the power key down for 1 minute. It finally was able to come out of boot mode and start. But it only stays on for about maybe 3 to 4 minutes. Then it shuts down and keep trying to restart in boot mode without my assistance but it won’t come out of the samsung boot up screen. My phone was working fine and then just shut down on me and i can not get it to stay on. Please help.

Solution: Try connecting the phone to its charger then check if the phone can successfully start. If it can then you should try getting a new battery as the problem could be caused by a weak battery. If the issue still occurs even with a charger connected then I recommend that you try doing a factory reset in recovery mode. Take note that this will erase your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before doing this.

If the above steps don’t fix the problem then I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Apps Not Connecting Using Mobile Data

Problem: Help! A few apps no longer connect over cellular data, but will work wifi only.  Mobile data is on, I’ve tried reinstalling, and clearing cache.  Nothing is working.  Ring app, and Foscam app.  

Solution: First, make sure that you have an active mobile data subscription and that your phone is using the correct APN settings. To begin the troubleshooting try starting your phone in Safe Mode then check if the affected apps can now connect to the Internet using your mobile data subscription. Take note that only the pre-installed apps will run in this mode.

If the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then you should consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

Note 4 Works Very Slowly

Problem: I’ve had my note 4 for 2 years now, works great. Till a week ago. My battery died, I charged it, nothing but problems now. Every app I open takes forever. Facebook won’t scroll, Yahoo scrolls but very sluggish. While texting my Swype even drags. Movies skip like I’m on slow Wi-Fi. My battery used to last all day, now I’m having to charge it 3 times a day. Speaking of the battery… It can be at 50%, I can read a text and reply the phone instantly drops to 7% then dies. This happens daily. I’ve deleted the cache by following your directions, no change. I thought maybe I had a virus so I scanned with AVG, nothing. I’ve switched to different Wi-Fi, still the same. Any ideas would be great, thank you!

Solution: If your phone has a microSD card installed then try removing it as this could be causing the problem. If your phone does not have a microSD card or if the issue still persists even when removing the card then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Try clearing the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Restarts When Using Snapchat

Problem: I own a Samsung Galaxy Note 4, every time I open the Snapchat app my phone restarts and it goes on a loop… my phone wIll restart and won’t stop restarting, it’s really frustrating and I’ve been told to factory reset it. The problem is I don’t want to because I haven’t backed up my phone. What should I do no to resolve the issue with Snapchat?

Solution: If a factory rest is not an option then you can try clearing the cache and data of the Snapchat app then uninstall it. Once this is done reinstall a fresh version from the Google Play Store.

Note 4 Unfortunately App Has Stopped Working Error

Problem: “Unfortunately, weather has stopped working” message. I’ve cleared the cache, I’ve uninstalled ALL my apps, I am not sure what else to try to get this message to stop appearing on my screen.

Related Problem: Hi, I am getting ‘Unfortunately Gallery has stopped’ message when trying to open Gallery.  I tried going to application mgr and clearing cache and data, then my wallpapers disappeared.  I tried taking out my battery for a minute, then put it back on and still nothing.  Please help.

Solution: If clearing the cache and data of the affected app doesn’t work then you will have to proceed with a factory reset. Take note that you need to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
