Samsung’s 2016 Galaxy lineup might be revealed on February 20, 2016

Galaxy S6

The #Samsung #GalaxyS7 is all set for an early 2016 release as we’re well aware by now. The smartphone is expected to come with state of the art hardware and a powerful Snapdragon 820 SoC underneath, which should make it a very attractive offering in the budget market segment. A new report now suggests that the company might be scheduling its Samsung Unpacked 2016 event by February 20, 2016.

The word comes from a third person and not the company directly, so we can’t exactly confirm its authenticity as of yet. However, the source accurately predicted the announcement date of the Galaxy S5 early last year, so there’s every likelihood of this leak coming through.

We should have more details on the leak in the days to come. We do know however that the Galaxy S7 will be launched before or in time for the MWC 2016 event in Barcelona, which is scheduled for late February.

ZTE Axon Max smartphone now official with a beefy specs sheet

ZTE Axon Max

ZTE Axon Max

#ZTE has just unveiled the #AxonMax smartphone in its home region of China, carrying a specs sheet that could rival most new flagships currently selling in the market. With features like a USB Type-C port and a fingerprint scanner, the Chinese manufacturer has ensured that no stone is left unturned in making the device an attractive proposition for the buyers.

In terms of raw hardware, the Axon Max comes with a large 6 inch 1080p AMOLED display, a 16-megapixel rear camera, a 13-megapixel front camera for those wide angle selfies, the new octa core Snapdragon 617 SoC, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage (expandable), Android 5.1 Lollipop with Mifavor 3.5 and a 4,140 mAh battery.

The Snapdragon 617 chipset underneath the device also supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 standard, letting you charge the massive 4,140 mAh battery in super quick time. This is an upgrade over the Quick Charge 2.0 standard that is supported by a large portion of the current crop of flagships.

The company has priced the device at 2,799 CNY ($432), which is quite reasonable considering what it brings to the table. The company hasn’t yet mentioned if the device will make its way to the U.S., but knowing how other devices in the Axon series have been launched in the region, we don’t see why the Axon Max will be left out.

BlackBerry Priv now available on pre-order for $699

BlackBerry Priv

BlackBerry Priv

BlackBerry’s first #Android smartphone, known as the #Priv can now be pre-ordered in the U.S. for $699 from the company’s official site. This seems like a decent price for a device that is bringing state-of-the-art hardware in a unique slider form factor.

The handset comes unlocked of course and will be compatible with a wide array of 4G LTE bands, so you can be assured of finding compatibility with the GSM carrier of your choice. The Priv supports LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 17, 20, 29 and 30, so you’re covered as far as network frequencies are concerned.

BlackBerry Priv - Slide

The handset comes with a massive 5.43 inch 2560 x 1440 display, the hexa core Snapdragon 808 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage (expandable up to 2TB), 3,410 mAh battery and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The highlight of the smartphone obviously is the keyboard, which also doubles as a scrollable touchpad. This is very helpful while browsing web pages or other content on your smartphone.

So clearly, there is quite a bit of innovation on offer here, but only time will tell if the company will be able to convince customers of the Priv’s potential, considering how much they’re asking for it.

AT&T makes Nokia Lumia 920, 820 & HTC 8X official

Nokia Lumia 920 is definitely a good Windows Phone 8 device. Previously this week, I had written about a spotting found on Nokia’s website which suggested that Lumia 920 will be launching on AT&T for $149.99 with a signed 2 year contract. As we know, Nokia Lumia 920 is an AT&T carrier exclusive model, and AT&T didn’t confirm the pricing of the device until now.

AT&T has published a press-release and it has finally made three new Windows Phone 8 smartphones official. For those who were happy reading that Lumia 920 will be costing only $149.99, here’s a news that will make you even more happier. AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 will now cost only $100 with a 2-year contract, and not $150 as previously rumored, and this time the word is from the carrier itself, so there should be no doubts about it. Along with the pricing of Windows Phone 8 handsets, AT&T has also published release dates.

For those who are eyeing on the cheaper version of Lumia 920, which is the Lumia 820, AT&T will be giving it out at $49.99 with a 2 year contract. Customers will be able to purchase either Lumia 920 or 820 from November 9th onwards. Another interesting phone that has been officially announced is the Windows Phone 8X by HTC. Before Thanksgiving, customers can pick-up the Windows Phone 8X by HTC with 16 GB of memory for $199.99. There’s also a carrier exclusive 8GB version of Windows Phone 8X which will be sold for $99.99. Customers can choose from either California Blue or Limelight (yellow) variant of 8X. It should be noted that AT&T is only carrier to offer this device in Limelight.

“Our Windows Phone portfolio features the best designs for the fantastic experience of Windows Phone 8,” said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Devices and Developer Services, AT&T Mobility. “Combine that with very exciting prices and our customers have lots of good reasons to choose Windows Phone this holiday season.”

Lumia 920 comes with PureView camera technology which makes it stand out of the crowd of other WP8 devices. Apart from PureView, the 920 comes with high-res screen, and wireless charging capabilities. AT&T will apparently start accepting pre-orders for Lumia 920 from November 7 onwards, and to make the deal sweeter, AT&T will be giving away free wireless charger along with 920, but the offer is available only for limited time and while supplies last, so you better hurry if you have been planning for one.

Lumia 820 is equally good, and the $50 price tag definitely makes it a good deal. It has a 4.3-inch AMOLED screen, 8-megapixel camera, and is powered by the same Snapdragon S4 processor that is inside the 920. Like the 920, AT&T will start accepting pre-orders for the 820 from November 7th onwards.

Apart from all this, another major announcement is the availability of Samsung ATIV smart PC, which is a Windows 8 based tablet. Beginning Nov. 9, the ATIV smart PC will be available from AT&T. What are your thoughts on these announcements?
