Lamborghini Announces New Luxury Android Smartphone and Tablet

Most smartphones, especially those running Android operating systems, are designed for usability, affordability and simplicity.  The prominence of Android operating system is growing in the market but no one would have anticipated that it would steal the luxury niche as well.  The news is out, Lamborghini, the company that designs and makes the sexiest, fastest and most expensive cars, will expand its electronics and communication market by making an Android Smartphone and tablet, the company announced.

The Lamborghini TL700 smartphone running on Android operating system may not have any features that a smartphone enthusiast would lust for but the price, as expected, will be steep – very steep.

Unlike most other luxury smartphones that are decorated in emeralds and diamonds and made from solid Gold, the Lamborghini T700 is made of inexpensive materials such as crocodile skin.  Other sources however say that the smartphones may come in different varieties or customers may have a chance to request custom specifications.

The performance and general specifications of the Lamborghini TL700 phone are not special really.  The phone will have Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3.7 Inch WVGA sapphire crystal display and a Qualcomm processor.  The company did not specify the frequency or the architecture of the processor though.

Other features include a 5 megapixel rear camera and a front-facing 2 megapixel camera, 4GB internal memory and 1,400 a mAh battery.  Other important specifications such as the RAM capacity and features that seem to come with most Android smartphone today such as GPS, touchscreen technology, any accessories and bonus features have not been released yet.  What we know though is that you can have one but it will set you back $2,750.

If you were to look at the performance or even the features of the Lamborghini that have already been released vis-à-vis an average 2012 smartphone, it is not special at all.  But then again, the name sells.  People driving the Murciellago probably do not care about smartphone performance or other bonus features they will not use, just as long as their phones match their cars.

The Lamborghini tablet, the L2800, follows the steps of the smartphone.  I should actually say that it is way below an average mid-range level in terms of specs that have already been released, but not on price.  For just $2,300, you can get a Lamborghini L2800 tablet running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 9.7 Inch 1024 x 768 pixels sapphire crystal display, 1.2 GHz Qualcomm processor, 512 MB RAM, 5 MP primary and 2 MP secondary cameras and MicroSD support.

If you are a big fan of Lamborghini or drive one, you will not have a problem getting either the TL700 smartphone or the L2800 tablet.  However, if you are an Android fan, it is probably best for you to save the money and get something that has a higher performance and better features for a lower price.

**Clarification: Tonino Lamborghini is a separate company from the sports car manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini. They share the same name because “Tonino Lamborghini” was founded by Ferrucio Lamborghin’s son. However, the new phone is not associated with the automaker Lamborghini**
