A recent teaser posted by #Huawei revealed the existence of the #Honor7i smartphone. Well, the smartphone has gone official earlier today, sporting a couple of interesting design elements. First up is the unique looking flip up camera sensor, which rotates to double as a front facing camera as well.

For this reason, the company has decided to skip a dedicated front facing camera for the handset. This concept was first introduced by fellow Chinese manufacturer #Oppo with the #N1 smartphone which was released nearly two years ago, so this isn’t new to the mobile industry.

The Honor 7i also comes with a fingerprint scanner, but on the power button which is located on the right hand side of the handset. This is different from the company’s own Ascend Mate 7 phablet, which has a fingerprint scanner on the back.

In the hardware department, the smartphone comes with a 5.5 inch 1080p display, an octa core Snapdragon 616 SoC, 2/3GB of RAM, 16/32GB of storage, the 13-megapixel rotating camera, a 3,100 mAh battery with Android 5.1 Lollipop (Emotion UI 3.1).

The smartphone is an exclusive to the Chinese markets for the time being, but we’re not ruling out a global release at this point. The pricing has been set somewhere close to 1599 CNY ($250), which is very reasonable given the hardware on board. Do you like what you see here?

Huawei has started teasing the arrival of the Honor 7i smartphone for the 20th of August as we all know. The company’s teaser says – “you change the vision together” which is an obvious hint of the handset’s camera credentials.

The handset has already made its way to China’s TENAA certification agency, which has revealed a unique sliding camera mechanism for the front facing sensor.

The certification image reveals the rear camera in place, but no front camera. One of the side angles reveals a slot, which is where the front camera is supposedly hiding. We’re guessing it will be a pop out camera with a dual LED flash, which is certainly unique and not tried before in the industry, not by a major manufacturer at least.

We can also see a dedicated shutter key for the camera, suggesting that the company is seriously touting the camera skills of he Honor 7i. With Huawei eager to bring its devices to a wider audience, we hope the Honor 7i eventually makes its way to the U.S. as well.
