How To Fix Google Pixel 3 Will Not Stay Connected To Wi-Fi Connection

Problem: Recently my Pixel 3 will not stay connected to a specific WiFi network. I have had the phone since it was released. This seems to have started after the January Android update, but since then the February update has been applied. The network is an open/public network at my office. For over a month I had no issues connecting/staying connected to this network. Our network admin says nothing has changed, and other employees do not have an issue (but none have the Pixel 3). The phone will connect for a very short period (1-2 seconds), then drop the connection, reconnect, drop, repeat. I have removed/re-added the network, reset all the networks on my phone, and did a factory reset. I do not believe I have installed any new apps just prior to this problem starting. I would appreciate any ideas you may have.

Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on this device it’s best to make sure that the phone is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then make sure to download and install it.

If this issue only occurs on a specific Wi-Fi network then the problem could be caused by the router. Try having this router restarted then have its settings checked. In case the router is not causing the problem then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

Do a Soft Reset

Sometimes this issue can be caused by a minor software glitch which can be fixed by refreshing the phone software. A soft reset must be performed in this case. This is done by pressing and holding the Power button for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles. Once this is done check if the issue still occurs.

Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode

There are instances when an app you downloaded can cause this problem. To verify if this is the case you will need to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • From the home screen, press and hold the Power key.
  • Release the Power key, then tap and hold Power off.
  • Read the Reboot to safe mode message and tap OK.
  • The device will power off and restart in safe mode.

If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Reset network settings

This procedure is usually performed when you are having issues getting online with the phone. When you perform this the following will be reset to their default values:

  • Cellular and Wi-Fi network settings (including saved networks and passwords)
  • Bluetooth connections

To perform this step

  • From a Home screen, touch and swipe up to display all apps.
  • Navigate to Settings – System About icon – Advanced
  • Tap Reset options Reset icon.
  • Choose: Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth
  • Tap Reset settings. Note If prompted, enter the PIN, password or pattern.
  • Tap Reset settings to confirm.

Check if the issue still occurs.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. This will revert the phone back to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this step.

  • Hold the Power Button Until the Phone Is Off
  • Hold the Power Button and the Volume Down Button for a Few Seconds
  • Wait to See Fastboot Mode on the Screen
  • Let Go of the Buttons
  • Select Recovery Mode
  • Wait for the Android Robot Image to Pop Up
  • Hold Down the Power Button and Then Press the Volume Up Button
  • Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset
  • Select Yes
  • Select Reboot System Now

Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone just yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs.

In case the issue still persists even after a factory reset then the best thing to do right now is to either wait for a future software update that will fix this problem or bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

Problem: Google Pixel 3 has flashing red LED light when charging (won’t turn on)

I have had a brand new Google pixel 3 phone for a little over a week. I haven’t dropped it. It died earlier today. I tried charging it with the charger it came with and my other charger and both of them gave me the same problem. It just shows a battery symbol completely filled with white as if it is charged and a little lightning bolt in it. Then it goes away and the little red light in the top corner stays. I can’t turn it on and it won’t charge. When I unplug it, it shows the battery symbol that I already stated and then that goes away and it shows a tiny white line that fades. When I try to turn it on the little red light in the top right corner just blinks while nothing happens. I have tried to reboot it by holding down the power key and the volume down key and it didn’t work.

Solution: There are three possible reasons for your problem right now. One is that the screen might have gone bad, two is that the battery may be malfunctioning, and third is that there might be a something wrong with the motherboard. Your primary task is to know what the underlying problem is in order to do the most effective fix. Here’s what you can try:

Forced reboot. In case there’s a temporary bug that blocks Android from booting up, you want to refresh the system first. Simply press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds. Afterwards, wait for your phone to complete the reboot sequence and see what happens.

If nothing happens when you press and hold the Power button, or even after the phone has attempted to restart, proceed to the next step below.

Use another set of charging cables. Try to use a known working charging cable and adapter and see if there’s a difference. If possible, use an official set of charging accessories or those certified by Google. If you can go to your local store, try to bring your Pixel there and charge it using their own USB cord and adapter. This is an important step to know if there’s an issue with the cable and adapter you’re currently using. Keep in mind that a red flashing LED light is an indicator that the battery has been fully discharged and there’s simply not enough energy to power up the phone. Be sure to leave the device charged for 30 minutes.

Use wireless charger. Another way to check the charging functionality of your Pixel is to use a wireless charger. There may be a problem with the phone’s charging port so to bypass that, you can try to charge the device wirelessly. If you don’t readily have access to a wireless charger, you can go to a store and see if you can try to use their wireless charger. Make sure to leave the phone charged for at least 30 minutes before you try to turn it back on.

Connect to a computer. One other way to charge a Pixel 3 is by using a computer. With a computer on, connect your device to it via USB cable and let it charge for 30 minutes.

Check the screen. If the phone appears to charge but the screen stays black, that’s a clear sign of a bad screen problem. The same is true when the device appears to receive messages, emails, or calls but the screen is also black. In any of these scenarios, the best option for you is to send the device in so Google can examine the screen and replace it when necessary.

Keep in mind that any screen discoloration or lines can be an indicator of damaged screen as well. Again, you must get professional help if you encounter such issue.

Boot to Recovery. If you think that the screen is working but the system may have encountered an error, it’s a good idea to boot the device to Recovery Mode and wipe it from there. In Recovery Mode, you’ll have the option to hard reset the device and return all software settings to defaults. If the cause of the problem is software-related, this troubleshooting step should help.

  1. Turn off your Google Pixel 3 XL.
  2. Press and hold the Power+Volume Down buttons until bootloader mode (image of an Android with Start above it) appears, then release.
  3. Select Recovery mode. You can use the Volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the Power button to select. The device will flash the Google start screen momentarily and then restarts in Recovery mode.
  4. If presented with an image of a broken Android with “No Command” printed on the screen, press and hold the Power button. Press the Volume Up button once. Then release the Power button.
  5. From the Android Recovery screen, select Wipe data/factory reset.
  6. Select Yes. Wait for several minutes for the factory data reset process to complete.
  7. Select Reboot system now. Allow several minutes for the factory data reset and reboot processes to complete.
  8. Set the phone up again.

Get professional help. If nothing works and no software troubleshooting has helped at this stage, you can assume that your Pixel 3 must have a hardware error. It can be a bad battery or a general issue with the motherboard. Only a trained technician will be able to tell you what the real reason is for your problem. It’s best if you send the phone back to the store where you got if from, or to a Google Service Center for repair.

The first thing you will need to do in this case is to check if it is a network related problem by following the troubleshooting steps listed below.

Check the signal bars

Make sure that the phone has excellent signal reception from the network as a low signal can cause this particular problem. If necessary go to an area that has a strong signal reception then check if the issue occurs.

Check if there is a network outage

Sometimes this problem can be caused by issues within the network itself.  You can check the website of your carrier if there are any reports of outages in your area. You can also contact the customer service department of your carrier to verify if a network outage exists.

Try using a different SIM card

There are instances when the problem can be caused by a faulty SIM card. To verify if this is the case you should try using a different SIM in your phone.

If the problem is not caused by the network then proceed with the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.

Perform a force restart

The first thing that you need to do on your phone is a soft reset. This is usually done when the phone becomes unresponsive but can also be performed for this issue as this step will refresh the phone software .To do this just press and hold the Power button for about 10 to 20 seconds or until it power cycles. Check if the issue still occurs.

Start the phone in Safe Mode

In case the issue still persists then the next step is to check if the problem occurs when the phone is started in Safe Mode.

  • With the device powered on, press and hold the Power button  until the Power off prompt appears then release.
  • Touch and hold Power off until the “Reboot to safe mode” prompt appears then release.
  • Tap OK to confirm.

Does the issue occur in this mode? If it does not then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Problem: Hello, so I found your article about bluetooth issues in cars and I have experienced a weird issue with this. I have a Google Pixel 3 and a Honda Civic 2017. The Civic head unit actually runs an old version of Android with all of Honda’s custom software on it. I was a Google Play Music subscriber before this issue started happening. It didn’t always happen but it started after I got my Pixel 3. Basically music would skip or stutter once or twice every minute or so during playback which was annoying, but when I brought my car to Honda and they gave me a loaner car (Honda Accord 2018) the music played fine from my Google Music app, over bluetooth. Which proved to me that it wasn’t the phone. So they let me test my phone playing music in a different Honda Civic 2017 to determine if it was just MY car, but the issue still happened music would skip over bluetooth. So then I thought okay maybe it is my phone, so Verizon replaced my Pixel 3, same problem still occurred. So then I was like well if not just my car, but it worked in the Accord fine, and it’s not my specific phone. Then maybe I’ll try another app to play music from, and sure enough Spotify does not have this issue. So why would Google Play Music play fine over bluetooth in a different car, or even a bluetooth speaker, but not in my Honda Civic, why would using a different app work?

Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on this phone it’s best to make sure that it is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then make sure to download and install it first.

Check for updates to the Google Play Music App

Apps in your phone will usually be updated from time to time to improve their overall performance. To check if the Google Play Music app has a pending update just open the Google Play Store app then go to the My Apps section. From here you will see if the app has an update available. Update the app accordingly.

Clear the cache of the Google Play Music app

There are instances when corrupt cached data within the app can cause this particular problem. Clearing the cache and data of this app will usually fix the problem.

  • Go to Settings> App Manager.

  • Tap Settings on the Bluetooth devices that you are not currently using then select the option to Forget.
  • If you see your car’s name in the list, it means that you paired your phone and car before. Tap Settings next to your car’s name then tap Forget. Doing so will erase your car along with other Bluetooth devices from your phone’s memory.

You should also forget the Bluetooth connection from your car system. Please consult the Honda manual on how to do this.

Once the above steps are done try connecting both devices again then check if the issue still occurs.

How To Fix Google Pixel 3 Shuts Down During Call

Problem:  I have a Google Pixell 3. I was on a phone call while the phone was charging, and the battery was at 71% and still charging. While on the call, the phone just randomly shut off and I saw a small red light blink in the right corner and that was the last response I saw from the phone at all. It has been charged with an OEM charger plugged into the wall and it will not turn on. I did troubleshooting with Pixel support and followed all the steps to press the Power button, Power + Volume Down buttons, etc. Nothing is working….help! I will be going to the Verizon store tomorrow since it was purchased through them and Google wasn’t much help beyond basic troubleshooting.

Solution: The first thing that you will need to do in this case is to make sure that the phone battery has sufficient charge by following the steps listed below.

Clean the charging port of the phone

Dust and debris will usually accumulate in the charging port of your phone. Once these particles are present in the port it can cause issues with charging the device. It is therefore best to clean the port using a can of compressed air to remove these particles.

Charge the phone using a different charging cord and wall charger

To eliminate the possibility of the problem being caused by your charger you will need to use a different charger. The phone uses the 18W wall charger so make sure that you also use this type of charger. You should also make sure that the charging cord you will be using works on a different device.

Once the battery has sufficient charge it’s time to proceed to the following troubleshooting steps which is done to eliminate any software related glitches that could be causing the problem.

Perform a force restart

Problem: My Google pixel 3 does not start at all it turns on to the battery symbol but not the battery charging up symbol. It was caused from the battery draining to zero and it didn’t start up or after I left it on the original charger overnight (8hrs). I have tried the volume up and power button restart and that does not work. This has happened before and it fixed itself from being plugged in with the original cable at a Verizon store and started doing the charge up battery symbol when plugged in. But there seems to be no logical way and no similar stories online so i am contacting you.

Solution: The first thing that you will want to do in this case is to make sure that the battery of the phone has sufficient charge. Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below to charge the device.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in this port.
  • Try using a different charging cord and wall charger to charge the phone.
  • Try charging the phone from a computer USB port.
  • Try using a wireless charger to charge the phone.

Once the battery has sufficient charge it’s time to turn on the device.

Perform a soft reset

The first thing that you need to do in this case is a soft reset. This is usually done when the phone becomes unresponsive but can also be performed for this issue as this step will refresh the phone software .To do this just press and hold the Power button for about 10 to 20 seconds or until it power cycles. Check if the issue still occurs.

Start the phone in Safe Mode

In case the issue still persists then the next step is to check if the phone can be started in Safe Mode.

  • With the device powered on, press and hold the Power button  until the Power off prompt appears then release.
  • Touch and hold Power off until the “Reboot to safe mode” prompt appears then release.
  • Tap OK to confirm.

Does the problem occur in this mode? If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

How To Fix Google Pixel 3 Wi-Fi Keeps Disconnecting

Problem: Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting every 30 seconds especially while doing video calls. I cannot hold a smooth conversation over video calls on WiFi using any of the apps (WhatsApp/ Google Duo/ Skype/ Hangouts) because of this. My other devices connect to the same WiFi without issues.

Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on this device it’s best to make sure that it is  running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first.

There’s a possibility that the problem is caused by a software glitch which is why you should perform the software related troubleshooting steps listed below.

Perform a Soft Reset

Sometimes this issue can be caused by a minor software glitch which can be fixed by refreshing the phone software. A soft reset must be performed in this case. This is done by pressing and holding the Power button for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles.

Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode

There are instances when an app you downloaded can cause this problem. To verify if this is the case you will need to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • From the home screen, press and hold the Power key.
  • Release the Power key, then tap and hold Power off.
  • Read the Reboot to safe mode message and tap OK.
  • The device will power off and restart in safe mode.

If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Reset network settings

This procedure is usually performed when you are having issues getting online with the phone. When you perform this the following will be reset to their default values:

  • Cellular and Wi-Fi network settings (including saved networks and passwords)
  • Bluetooth connections

To perform this step

  • From a Home screen, touch and swipe up to display all apps.
  • Navigate to Settings – System About icon – Advanced
  • Tap Reset options Reset icon.
  • Choose: Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth
  • Tap Reset settings. Note If prompted, enter the PIN, password or pattern.
  • Tap Reset settings to confirm.

Check if the issue still occurs.

Problem: Google Pixel 3 can’t make a call

When I try to make a call it will say it is calling, then will show its connected with the countdown timer but I cannot hear anyone. I have to reboot my phone to get it to make calls. I have also done all the troubleshooting, factory reset the phone but it’s still the same.

Solution: There’s no clear cut to know where the problem lies on this one. You must do a number of troubleshooting steps for this one to figure out the cause. Follow our suggestions below.

Forced reboot

There had been many instances in the past when seemingly unexplained problems go away after a restart. We know you are wondering why calls go through after you restart the device as well. The most likely explanation for that is temporary bugs. These types of bugs develop when a device encounters a particular set of coding error and it can’t resolve the problem on its own. These coding hiccups are usually associated to a particular software condition on a device and will go away once that certain state is changed. While most of such bugs go away on their own, there may be others that require you do manual refresh of the system. To check if you can make that happen, we suggest that you simulate the effects of a “battery pull” in order to also clear the RAM. it’s a more effective way to refresh the system compared to a regular restart. To see if the cause of the problem is temporary, try rebooting your Google Pixel 3 this way:

Press and hold the Power key for 30 seconds or even more and when the logo shows up on the screen, release it.

Unlike other devices wherein you have to press and hold a couple of keys, you only need the power button on Pixel phones and again, it’s hard-wired to respond to it. So, if it actually boots up, that would be the end of the problem but try to do it a few more times if the first try didn’t work. After that and your device still remains unresponsive, try the next solution.

Reset network settings

Should the issue remain after a forced reboot, the next good thing to do in this case is to reset network settings. Resetting network settings will delete all previously connected wifi networks, wifi passwords, VPN settings, and cellular settings. To do it:

  8. Erase all data (factory reset)

Reseat SIM

Temporarily disconnecting the SIM card has proven effective in dealing with some network issues on the Google Pixel 3 before. This suggestion is simple so we suggest that you do it if nothing has worked so far. Make sure to remove the SIM only after turning off the device to preventing corrupting data. Wait for a few seconds before inserting the SIM card. Again, make sure that your Google Pixel 3 is off. Once you start the phone and it detects the SIM, it will reconfigure cellular data settings. To make this as less of a hassle as possible, let the system do it automatically. By default, your Pixel 3 should download and install updates on its own. If you change this before, you want to regularly check for updates.

Safe Mode

To factory reset your Pixel 3:

  1. Create a backup of your personal data.
  2. Make sure to know the username and password for Google account in the phone.
  3. Open Settings app.

Problem: Google Pixel 3 MMS is low quality

Hi there, I have an issue with my MMS quality – I have a Google Pixel 3. I understand texting photos loses some quality but mine are terrible! At first I thought it was just the phone – the photos were too high quality for texting but my friend who is with another phone carrier is sending photos fine through MMS, and a friend who is with the same phone carrier I’m with also has said her pictures are sending fine. Even my screenshots which are only a few kb send through blurry, it’s very odd.

I called my phone carrier and they said try putting the sim card back into my iPhone, so I emailed myself one of my Google Pixel’s high quality photos, put the sim card in my iPhone, saved the photo from the email and texted it to a friend and it worked, super high quality. The guy on the phone basically said my Google Pixel seems faulty. When I go to send an MMS on the Google Pixel I get this message “recipient will see lower image quality due to operator MMS limits.” If you can help in anyway that would be great as I really don’t want to have to wipe it and send it back. Solution: Photos sent via regular text messaging service are expectedly lower in quality compared to the original copy because of technology limitation. MMS works by compressing the file before sending. Cellular data used by MMS is limited so a media file like photos passing through it must be converted to a certain lower file size. This means that overall quality of MMS is usually bad, especially in relation to today’s photos taken by high definition cameras. Unfortunately, MMS restriction is determined by technology or code running on the device and network. Both are usually outside a user’s control so there’s basically nothing much that you can do about them.

If your Google Pixel 3 was able to send a much improved MMS (photo) after reseating (disconnecting and inserting) the SIM card, then that can mean that there may be an issue with the messaging app or with Android. To troubleshoot the issue, try following our suggestions below.

Apps like Facebook Messenger, Google Hangouts, Whatsapp, Viber, etc. work on both Android and non-Android platforms (like iOS) so sending and receiving media is much easier. If your contacts use any social networking app, try asking them to switch your conversations to that one. For instance, you can chat using Facebook Messenger instead for a much fun and easy manner, not to mention that it’s also free.

How to fix Google Pixel 3 calling issue: person can’t hear when call is on speaker

There are many forms of calling issues. In today’s post, we want to address a particular problem for a Google Pixel 3 that has voice calling problem when using the speaker. Basically, the other end can’t seem to hear the caller who’s using speaker on calls. If you encountered this problem before, find out the steps that you can try below to fix it.

Problem: Google Pixel 3 calls on speaker not working properly

Hello, when I call people using speaker or answer phone using the speaker option, the person on the other end cannot hear me for about 30 seconds. I am told all they hear is silence.. When I take the call off speaker they can hear me just fine and once I out back on speaker it’s ok.

Solution: Knowing the reason for your problem is not straightforward but there’s a number of things that you can do to help you identify it. Follow our suggestions below to know where the issue lies.

Forced restart

Sometimes, temporary bugs may develop and cause problems ranging from minor annoyances to downright software malfunctions. To see if your Pixel 3 has developed a bug after running for some time, you can forced reboot it. Also known as simulated “battery pull”, the procedure is meant to imitate the effects of physically disconnecting the battery. You can’t obviously remove the battery from the device that easily so this is the closest thing that you can do to it. Here’s how you do it:

Press and hold the Power key for 30 seconds or even more and when the logo shows up on the screen, release it.

Unlike other devices wherein you have to press and hold a couple of keys, you only need the power button on Pixel phones and again, it’s hard-wired to respond to it. So, if it actually boots up, that would be the end of the problem but try to do it a few more times if the first try didn’t work. After that and your device still remains unresponsive, try the next solution.

Install updates

Keeping both apps and Android up-to-date is one of the simplest yet effective means of lessening the chances of bugs from developing. If calls on speaker are still not working properly after a forced reboot, the next good thing to do is to ensure that all apps are running the latest version available. Some apps may cause problems if they are not properly coded to work with a certain Android version. This is rectified by developers by updating their products as they encounter problems and bugs. Make sure to check for new app updates manually in the Play Store app. By default, your Pixel 3 should download and install updates on its own. If you change this before, you want to regularly check for updates.

To check for software updates (for Android OS), you can go under Settings > Software update.

Clear cache of Phone app

If the problem remains after installing app and OS updates, the next good thing to do is to clear the Phone app’s cache. Here’s how it works:

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up to display all apps.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Tap Apps & notifications.
  4. Tap See all ‘xx’ apps.
  5. Tap the appropriate app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear cache.
  8. Restart your Pixel 3 XL.

Reset Phone app settings to defaults

Should the problem remain after clearing the Phone app’s cache, you should then try to clear the phone’s data. This will revert the app to its factory state and hopefully, fix the problem with your calls.

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up to display all apps.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Tap Apps & notifications.
  4. Tap See all ‘xx’ apps.
  5. Tap the appropriate app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear data.
  8. Restart your Pixel 3 XL.

Reset network settings

Another troubleshooting step that you can try in this case is to clear your Pixel’s network settings to delete possible incorrect configurations or bugs. Resetting network settings will delete all previously connected wifi networks, wifi passwords, VPN settings, and cellular settings. To do it:

  1. Open your device’s Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap System.
  3. Tap Advanced.
  4. Tap Reset options.
  5. Tap Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth.
  6. ​If you don’t see “Advanced,” tap Network & internet > More t> Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth.
  7. At the bottom, tap Reset settings.

Reset app preferences

Some users were able to successfully make their device work by clearing their network settings. If you haven’t tried it yet, here’s what you need to do:

  1. From a Home screen, tap the Arrow icon Up to display all apps.
  2. Go to Settings app icon.
  3. Tap System About icon.
  4. Tap Reset options icon.
  5. Choose from the following:
    • Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth
    • Reset app preferences
    • Erase all data (factory reset)
  6. Tap RESET SETTINGS. If prompted, enter the PIN, password or pattern.
  7. Tap RESET SETTINGS to confirm.

Safe Mode

A downloaded app may be causing this problem. To check, try to boot to safe mode and see what happens. To boot to safe mode:

  1. Press and hold the Power button.
  2. On your screen, touch and hold Power off.
  3. Tap OK.
  4. After you see “Safe mode” at the bottom of your screen, wait to see if the problem goes away.

Remember, safe mode blocks third party or downloaded apps. If the problem goes away in safe mode, you can bet one of the apps is to blame. To identify which of your downloaded apps is causing the problem:

  1. To exit safe mode, restart your device.
  2. One by one, uninstall recently downloaded apps. After each removal, restart your device. See whether removing that app solved the problem.
  3. After you remove the app that’s causing the problem, you can reinstall the other apps that you removed.

Factory reset

If all the troubleshooting steps above won’t solve the freezing issue on your Pixel 3, the final software troubleshooting step that you can do is to wipe it. This way, you can return all software settings back to their defaults in one stroke. If the reason for the problem is software related, factory reset will most likely help.

To factory reset your Pixel 3:

  1. Create a backup of your personal data.
  2. Make sure to know the username and password for Google account in the phone.
  3. Open Settings app.
  4. Tap System.
  5. Tap Advanced.
  6. Tap Reset options.
  7. Tap Erase all data (factory reset) and then Reset phone. If needed, enter your PIN, pattern, or password.
  8. To erase all data from your phone’s internal storage, tap Erase everything.
  9. When your phone has finished erasing, pick the option to restart.
  10. Set up your phone and restore your backed-up data.

Use another Phone app

If the problem is yet unresolved at this point, the only other step that you can do to address possible Phone app issue is by using another app. There may be a coding bug that affects the current Phone app. Switching to a new one may help fix that. There are many apps that you can use to allow you to make calls in the Play Store. Pick one (be sure it’s from a reputable developer and has many good reviews) and use it to make calls on speaker. If that works, then the current app you’re using is probably bad and may require an update.

Talk to your network operator

Telling your network operator about this problem may not help if your phone did not come from them. However, if your Pixel 3 is part of your subscription (carrier branded) and they gave it to you, working with them to figure out the cause of the problem might be a good idea. Carrier branded devices runs firmware and apps that are usually developed by carriers themselves. Any coding problem one of these products encounter may be referred to them for checking and resolution.

How to fix Google Pixel 3 screen discoloration issue

If your Google Pixel 3 screen is discolored or showing lines, the most likely reason for that is a physical problem. This article is here to educate Pixel 3 users on what to do when faced with this problem. If you’re one of the unlucky ones experiencing the problem, learn what to do.

Problem: Google Pixel 3 screen discoloration issue

The screen in my Pixel 3 went crazy last night. I was using it with about 15% battery left and all of a sudden an orange line appeared from top to bottom in the left side of the screen. Then a black spot started filling the top left side of the screen. I went to bed hoping that after the battery drained out and I charged it again it would work, but no. When I pressed the power button it blinked in different colors and the black spot is still there.  It’s not functional at all, I can’t do anything. I’ve tried to hard reset it but it’s impossible. The screen is in great condition, except that I now notice a tiny orange “bubble” inside the screen, where the orange line originated. I am charging it in the Google Stand and I can tell it’s charging up, but have no idea what to do next. Any ideas?

Solution: Fixing this issue has no direct solution. Screen discoloration is mostly due to physical problem but in some cases, a bad app or a software glitch may be to blame too. Find out what you can do to fix the problem by following the troubleshooting steps below.

Restart the device

The first troubleshooting step that you want to do is refresh the system. Some bugs are temporary and restarting the system makes them go away. By simulating the effects of “battery pull” you are effectively clearing the RAM and jumpstarting the entire system. Here’s how it’s done:

Press and hold the Power key for 30 seconds or even more and when the logo shows up on the screen, release it.

Check for bad third party app

One of the reasons that we can attribute this problem to is a bad app. If the problem occured out of the blue, it’s possible that you may have installed a new app that interferes with Android. In some cases, an update for an app may cause instability and lead to all sorts of issues. To check if there’s a bad app issue, follow the steps below to restart to safe mode:

  1. Press and hold the Power button.
  2. On your screen, touch and hold Power off.
  3. Tap OK.
  4. After you see “Safe mode” at the bottom of your screen, wait to see if the problem goes away.

Remember, safe mode blocks third party or downloaded apps. If the problem goes away in safe mode, you can bet one of the apps is to blame. To identify which of your downloaded apps is causing the problem:

Master reset via Recovery Mode

If the cause of the problem is a software bug, you’ll most likely fixed it by doing a factory reset (or master reset). First, you want to restart the device to Recovery Mode, which is a separate software environment from Android. It works independently of Android OS so if the problem lies on Android only, wiping the device and returning all software settings to defaults must help. On Recovery Mode, Android will be prevented from running and you’ll see the Recovery Mode options instead. If you are able to boot successfully to Recovery Mode and the screen discoloration will be absent, make sure to proceed to doing a factory reset. Below are the steps on how to boot to Recovery Mode and do a factory reset.

  1. Turn off your Google Pixel 3 XL. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
  2. Press and hold the Power+Volume Down buttons until bootloader mode (image of an Android with Start above it) appears, then release.
  3. Select Recovery mode. You can use the Volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the Power button to select. The device will flash the Google start screen momentarily and then restarts in Recovery mode.
  4. If presented with an image of a broken Android with “No Command” printed on the screen, press and hold the Power button. Press the Volume Up button once. Then release the Power button.
  5. From the Android Recovery screen, select Wipe data/factory reset.
  6. Select Yes. Wait for several minutes for the factory data reset process to complete.
  7. Select Reboot system now. Allow several minutes for the factory data reset and reboot processes to complete.
  8. Set the phone up again.

Was the phone dropped?

One of the primary reasons why phone screens malfunction is physical damage. If you dropped your before the screen started showing discoloration, skip all the suggestions above and have the device checked by Google instead. There’s no permanent fix for a physically damaged component except repair.

If you took care of your device and there was no dropping incident prior to the screen going bad, then it’s either a software issue, or an unknown screen malfunction. For possible software problem, make sure to follow our solutions detailed above. If nothing of these steps help, have the phone repaired.

How To Fix Google Pixel 3 Is Unresponsive

The phone has a solid design made of an Aluminum frame with Corning Gorilla Glass on the front and back. It sports a 5.5 inch P-OLED display while under the hood it has a Snapdragon 845 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. How To Fix Google Pixel 3 Is Unresponsive

Problem: Pixel 3 – was in phone holder in car, navigating using Google Maps, Plugged into charger, Screen went blank. It doesn’t show any response to on/off button even if held for 30 seconds.  It does not show any signs of life in response to being plugged into charger. When plugged into laptop using a different cable (both cables are fairly new and have always worked perfectly) it doesn’t show any signs of charging and the computer doesn’t see any USB device.  Restarting and charging have each been attempted multiple times.

Solution: We will first be checking if the problem is caused by a software glitch by performing the steps listed below.

Make sure that the phone is fully charged

To eliminate the possibility of the problem being caused by a drained battery you will need to make sure to fully charge the phone. In case the phone does not charge then do the following steps.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air.
  • Try using a different USB cord to charge the phone.
  • Try using a different wall charger.

Perform a Soft Reset

Sometimes this issue can be caused by a minor software glitch which can be fixed by refreshing the phone software. A soft reset must be performed in this case. This is done by pressing and holding the Power button for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles.

Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode

There are instances when an app you downloaded can cause this problem. To verify if this is the case you will need to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • From the home screen, press and hold the Power key.
  • Release the Power key, then tap and hold Power off.
  • Read the Reboot to safe mode message and tap OK.
  • The device will power off and restart in safe mode.

If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. This will revert the phone back to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this step.

  • Hold the Power Button Until the Phone Is Off
  • Hold the Power Button and the Volume Down Button for a Few Seconds
  • Wait to See Fastboot Mode on the Screen
  • Let Go of the Buttons
  • Select Recovery Mode
  • Wait for the Android Robot Image to Pop Up
  • Hold Down the Power Button and Then Press the Volume Up Button
  • Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset
  • Select Yes
  • Select Reboot System Now

In case the issue still persists even after a factory reset then the best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
