Facebook app starts to crash on Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus running Android 9.0 Pie

Major firmware updates like recently rolled-out Android 9 Pie for the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus often bring fixes to problems but there are also times when other issues occur, albeit minor in nature most of the time. Some owners of said device reported that the Facebook app started to crash following the installation of the new update.

App crashes after an update isn’t really a serious issue although they really be very annoying especially you often use the app that’s hit by the problem. In this case, it’s a pre-installed application so we really just can’t remove it from the phone and reinstall it. Nonetheless, there are things you can do to try and fix it and that’s what I’m going to share with you in this post. Now, here are the things you need to do if Facebook crashes on your Galaxy S9 Plus after downloading Android Pie…

  1. Force restart your phone first.
  2. Find out if there’s an update for the app.
  3. Clear the cache and data of the app.
  4. Factory reset your phone.

If it’s the first time you encountered the problem, the first thing you need to do is reboot it or perform the force restart procedure. It will refresh your phone’s memory as well as reload all its apps and services and doing this may save you from a lot of trouble. So, press and hold the volume down and power keys together for 10 seconds or more. Your device will reboot like it normally does but it’s memory should already be refreshed once it becomes active. After which, try using Facebook to see if it still crashes.

Another things you must try if the forced reboot doesn’t help is to find out if there’s an update available for it. Open the Play Store and then go to My Apps. From there, you would be able to see which apps needs to be updated. If Facebook is one of them, then that could be the fix for this problem. Update the apps and see what happens after that.

Next is to reset the app back to its default settings by clearing its cache and data. Again, Facebook is one of the pre-installed applications and you cannot uninstall it like any other third-party apps. So, resetting it is your best shot in fixing this problem. Don’t worry, none of your pictures or files will be lost if you did this.

After clearing the cache and data and the app continues to crash, then you have no other choice but to reset your phone. This will surely fix the problem but you will have to go through all the hassle of moving your important files and data to the SD card or computer as they will be deleted and you may no longer retrieve them after the reset if you didn’t do that. So, after the backup, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Samsung account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Samsung credentials to finish the master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

You can now use Facebook properly.

But here’s the thing, as long as the phone doesn’t have physical or liquid damage, you can almost expect that it’s just a minor issue. Here are the things you can do if your Galaxy S9 Plus turned off after updating to Android Pie and won’t turn back on…

  1. Perform the Forced Reboot procedure.
  2. Connect phone to the charger and force restart it.
  3. Try starting it up in recovery mode.
  4. Bring phone to shop so tech can check it for you.

After a major firmware update, the cache and other system files may become corrupt or no longer compatible with the new firmware. It may result to a system crash and leave your phone unresponsive. While it may seem like a serious hardware problem, in reality it’s not. It’s actually just a very minor firmware issue that you can fix in a matter of seconds. With that said, the first thing you must do is the Forced Reboot procedure:

  • Press and hold the volume down button and power key for 10 seconds or more.

Your phone may boot up after doing this but if not, then try this instead:

  1. Press and hold the volume down button and don’t let it go yet.
  2. Now, press and hold the power key while holding down the volume down button.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 10 seconds or more.

It’s actually the same as the first procedure only that we’re making sure you’re doing it correctly. If the phone is still not responding after this, then try doing this:

  1. Plug the charger to a working wall outlet.
  2. Connect your phone to the charger using the original USB cable.
  3. Regardless whether your Galaxy S9 Plus shows the charging symbol or not, leave it connected to the charger for at least 10 minutes.
  4. Now, perform the forced reboot again by pressing and holding the volume down and power keys at the same time for 10 seconds.

Most of the time, if the problem is due to a firmware crash, these procedures will fix it. However, if the phone is still not turning on after doing these, then you must try running your phone in recovery mode and perform a master reset if you can successfully make it to boot up.

It’s possible that it’s just a firmware issue and even if it’s serious, the phone would still be able to boot up in recovery mode as it’s the fail-safe for almost all Android devices. Here’s how to run the phone in recovery mode and perform the master reset:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  2. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  3. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  4. Press Power button to select.
  5. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  6. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  7. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If your phone is still not responding after this, then it’s time to bring it to the shop as it’s probably a hardware problem that occurred after the update.

How to fix Galaxy S9 Plus not showing notifications for text messages issue

This post will show you how to fix notification-related issue on the Galaxy S9 Plus. If your own Galaxy S9 Plus has a problem with notifications, any of the solutions below should help.

Problem: Galaxy S9 Plus not showing notifications for text messages

Hi!  I have not been receiving notifications for text messaging for several weeks now.  My text message icon used to show a number to indicate how many new text messages I received; and I also would hear a notification sound.  Neither of those happen anymore, so I now have to constantly open my text messages to see what new ones I’ve received. My do not disturb is not on and my sound is “on” for text messages.  I did notice that the bell icon on each text message had a line drawn through it to indicate the sound is off, but in my settings, the sound is ON. When I manually went into the settings for an individual text message, the sound notification is turned off.  So I went through the individual settings for all my text messages one by one and turned it back on, but that didn’t work either. There is still no sound notification when a new text comes in (but the sound notification is working for all my other apps) and the message icon on my home page still doesn’t tell me when a new message comes in.  I noticed that my OS updated to Oreo on December 16th, and I’m wondering if that is what caused this to happen as I never went into any of my settings to change anything. And I think the notifications stopped happening around the December 16th timeframe. Any idea how to fix this?

Solution: This problem does not have a straightforward solution. The main thing that you want to do in this case is to find out where the exact problem lies. Follow the steps below on how to do that.

Forced restart

Before changing settings and going deep into troubleshooting details, you want to make sure that the system is refreshed. You can do that by simulating the effects of “battery pull” to clear any temporary bug that may be causing the problem. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles. Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
  2. From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. You can use the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume buttons) to select. Wait for up to 90 seconds for the reset to complete.

Force quit messaging app

The next simple solution is to ensure that you restart the app having the issue itself. What you want to do is force quit the messaging app and other apps. This sometimes work in fixing minor bugs. Simply tap on the Recent Apps button, the button on the left of the Bixby key. Then, once the list of apps are shown, simply tap on CLOSE ALL button at the bottom.

Set up notification settings

Obviously, you also want to make sure that your messaging app notification settings are set up properly. Follow our help below on how to do this.

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap on More settings (three dots) at the upper right.
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find the messaging app you’re using and tap it.
  6. Tap Notifications.
  7. Ensure that Notifications is turned ON.
  8. Ensure that App icon badges is set to ON.
  9. Ensure that numbers or contacts you want to get notifications from are turned ON.
  10. Scroll to the bottom and tap on More settings in app.
  11. Tap Notifications.
  12. Ensure that Other notifications is ON.
  13. Under Advanced section, set up App icon badges, On lock screen, and Do not disturb custom exception are set up to your preference. Enabling App icon badges option means that you’ll get the numbers of unread messages on the Messaging app to show. We think this is what you’re missing.
  14. After doing all the steps above, restart the device and see if everything is working as far as notifications are concerned.

Clear cache partition

Should nothing change after setting up the notifications as instructed above, the next good thing to do is to clear the cache partition. Sometimes, a corrupted system cache can cause all sorts of problems. To minimize problems from a corrupted system cache, make sure to clear the cache partition with these steps:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Delete app cache

In case there’s a problem with the messaging app cache, the next step for you is to clear the messaging app’s cache. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Apps.
  4. Tap the 3 dots icon (at the upper right)
  5. Tap Show system apps to display preinstalled apps.
  6. Find and tap appropriate app.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Tap Clear cache.
  9. Tap OK.
  10. Restart the device and check for the problem.

Revert messaging app to defaults

Following the clearing of app cache procedure is making clearing its data. You must do this if the problem remains after clearing the cache. Deleting the messaging app’s data will result to the loss of your texts so be sure to back them up ahead of time. By doing this troubleshooting step, you are effectively reverting the app to its defaults. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Apps.
  4. Tap the 3 dots icon (at the upper right)
  5. Tap Show system apps to display preinstalled apps.
  6. Find and tap appropriate app.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Tap Clear data.
  9. Tap OK.
  10. Restart the device and check for the problem.

Reset app preferences

Resetting app preferences is oftentimes overlooked in many Android troubleshooting articles but when it comes to an issue like yours, it might help a lot. It’s possible that one or some of your default apps may not be set correctly, causing this glitch to occur. Because there’s no way to know if this guess is true, what you need to do is to simply ensure that all default apps are turned on. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  4. Select Reset app preferences.
  5. Restart your S9 and check for the problem.

Reset network settings

This is an expected troubleshooting step for any networking issue. There may be a configuration error on your device. To clear it or any other potential network bugs, try to do the steps below.

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap General Management > Reset settings.
  3. Tap Reset network settings.
  4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  5. Tap Reset settings. Once complete a confirmation window will appear.

Safe Mode

At times, an app may interfere with Android and result to problems. To check if you’ve installed a bad app, try to boot the phone to safe mode. These are the steps on how to restart the device to safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
  8. Check if notifications starts working normally again.

If the problem is absent on safe mode, try to restart back to normal mode (by restarting the device again) and see if the problem returns. If it does, then that means an app is behind this trouble. To identify which of your apps is causing the trouble, you should boot the phone back to safe mode and follow these steps:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your S9+ is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Delete data of BadgeProvider app

Notification-related issues can sometimes be caused by a bug in BadgeProvider app. This is an app, in general, that manages notifications for the system and apps. To ensure that it stays good, make sure that you reset it to its factory state. Here’s how:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  4. Select Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap your app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear Data button.
  8. Restart your S9 and check for the problem.

Factory reset

If the cause of the problem is software-related, wiping the device with factory reset might help. Learn how to factory reset your S9 by doing these steps:

  1. Create a backup of your data.

Problem: How to deal with Galaxy S9+ moisture detected error that won’t go away

I dropped my phone yesterday from approximately 1 ft off the ground. It was a gentle drop and there was no water near it. It gave me the “moisture detected” message appeared on the screen. I shook it, used a blow dryer on low heat and restarted it about 8 times and the message wouldn’t go away. I let it set for about 20 minutes, tried again, and the message went away and it charged fine yesterday. It was fine all day today with no error message, but i accidentally let my phone die.

A full 24 hours after the “moisture detected” message went away, i plugged it in to charge it and it set off an alert to unplug my phone from the charger immediately. I have tried everything to dry out any possible moisture that could have gotten into the phone, or the charger itself. I even let the charger and phone set in uncooked white rice for several hours and then tried plugging it back in, and the message still immediately pops up.

I know there can’t be any moisture in the phone or the charger at this point, but my phone is completely dead and i don’t know what else to do. Please help!

I have the samsung Galaxy S9+. i have no idea what android version this phone is. I have had it for about a month and a half, have never dropped it before yesterday, never near any water, all of the updates are installed, and i have had a case and glass screen protector on it since i walked out of the store with it.

Solution: Moisture detected error normally shows up only when there’s water or presence of moisture in the charging port area. The error is both an indicator of water in the port and a warning to the user not to charge the device to prevent damage. It should go away after drying the phone.

There are cases though wherein moisture detected error may be triggered for some other reasons. In some cases, a Galaxy device may show up when there’s a tiny amount of water or wet particle in the charging port. Sometimes, a hardware malfunction or defect in the charging port can also trigger it causing it to appear at random, or constantly. In some rare situations, a software bug may also trigger moisture detected error.

If your phone was working normally before you accidentally dropped it, it’s possible that it may have suffered a hardware malfunction. To check, you want to factory reset the phone. What to do if Moisture detected error remains after factory reset

As mentioned above, moisture detected error can also be caused by bad hardware. In this particular case, the problem may be caused by a bad hardware damage after the accidental drop. Since the only way to know for sure if the phone’s charging port has been damaged is by letting a technician check the phone, we suggest that you bring your device to Samsung Service Center. One of the best smartphones in the market today is the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. It basically has the same specs as the Galaxy S9 only that it’s a bit larger or wider. When it comes to its hardware specifications, the phone has a very impressive one so you would never actually think it’s capable of having issues especially in its performance. Solution to Galaxy S9 Plus that won’t turn on

Now, going back to the problem, the following procedure is very effective in dealing with issues like this…

  • Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power key at the same time for 10 seconds or until the device’s screen turns on.

If the problem is indeed due to a firmware crash or a minor glitch, then this is enough to fix it. It’s actually equivalent to the battery pull procedure we often do to phones with removable batteries. The method above is what we call ‘forced reboot’ as it simulates battery disconnect and refreshes your phone’s memory. It also closes all apps and services running in the background and reloads all core functions.

If your Galaxy S9+ is still not responding after this, do the procedure a couple more times to make sure you’re doing it right. Or you may try this…

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button first and don’t release it.
  2. While holding it down, press and hold the Power key.
  3. Keep both keys held down for 10 seconds or more.

It’s the same as the first procedure but in this sequence we’re trying to make sure you hit the Power key after the volume down button because doing otherwise won’t simulate battery disconnect. If the phone is still not responding to this, then here’s another thing you could try:

  1. Plug the charger to a working wall outlet.
  2. Connect your Galaxy S9 to the charger using the original cable.
  3. Leave it connected to the charger for a few minutes.
  4. Now, press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power key at the same time for 10 seconds or until the device’s screen turns on.

Your Samsung Galaxy S9+ should be working properly now or already booting up but if not, then it’s time to bring it back to the store so that a technician can evaluate the problem. You are not required to troubleshoot your phone if the problem goes beyond this and you don’t have to deal with this problem considering the fact your phone is still new.

Problem #1: How to fix a Galaxy S9 Plus that won’t charge wirelessly after an update

Ok my S9 Plus gave me a notice of some update for the phone and while on my wifi it started downloading. After the update was I noticed that the my phones quick charge was not activating, I’ve gone to my battery on the settings and checked on the advanced settings and it is turned on but for some reason when I plug my phone to the charger the quick charge notice doesn’t appear on my screen like it normally does. I am not sure what update my phone had. It says Android version 8.0 and Samsung experience version 9.0 any help would be appreciated thanks.

Solution: This issue may be caused by a number of factors. Let’s discuss each of them and the steps that you can do to fix it.

Minor bug

The issue is probably caused by a temporary bug after an update. Android OS is a very sophisticated software environment and there are millions of possible points of failure. Since Google and other developers cannot really anticipate all issues, some of them may develop after an update, when there is a major overhaul of the system. To see if you can easily fix the trouble, consider doing a forced reboot. This will simulate the effects of pulling out the battery, effectively clearing the memory and refreshing the system. A lot of minor bugs are fixed by this simple troubleshooting step so be sure not to skip it. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles. Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
  2. From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. You can use the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume buttons) to select. Wait for up to 90 seconds for the reset to complete.

Corrupted system cache

One of the most common reasons for issues following an update is a corrupted system cache. Android uses a special cache, called system cache, in order to keep temporary files needed to load apps faster. Sometimes, this cache gets corrupted after an update, which can then result to all sorts of problems. To ensure that the phone’s system cache is working properly, you want to clear the cache partition where it’s stored. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Incompatible apps

Apps is another reason why there are problems in an Android device. The chance of experiencing app-related issues can further be heightened after a major Android overhaul. Not all apps receive the same level of expertise when made so not everything may be compatible when new Android OS is installed. To see if a third party app is the main reason why your S9 Plus has lost wireless charging capability, you want to boot the phone to safe mode.

In safe mode, all third party apps will be suspended. This means that only preinstalled apps will be allowed to run. If your phone will charge wirelessly only on safe mode, you can bet you have a bad app issue.

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
  8. Check if wireless charging works.

Remember, if wireless charging will work only on safe mode, there must be an app causing the trouble. To identify which of your apps is causing the trouble, you should boot the phone back to safe mode and follow these steps:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your S9 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Apps need updates too

Installing the latest Android version does not automatically update the apps. Be sure to update all apps after installing Android update to minimize the chance of incompatibility issues and bugs.

Software bug

Should nothing change after checking the initial lists of possible causes, the problem is possibly due to a software bug. Make sure to factory reset the device so as to minimize the chance of having OS bugs.

To factory reset your S9 Plus, follow these steps:

  1. Create a backup of your personal data.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.

Problem #2: Galaxy S9 music plays and stops on its own, Google Voice and S Voice keeps turning on

Hey there. So here’s the issue with my Samsung Galaxy S9: the Google voice command and S Voice constantly keeps popping out of nowhere when my earphones are plugged in. Also, the music starts playing and stops on it’s own and the sound settings (sound, vibrate, mute) changes on their own too. It started a week ago. I didn’t install a software update or anything of the sort. i have no idea why these stuff started happening all of a sudden. Solution: There’s a chance that a third party app may be to blame. To check if that’s the case, restart your S9 to safe mode and observe it. Refer to the steps above on how to do it.

If you’ve already tried that before contacting us, or if nothing changes when the phone is on safe mode, you can also do a factory reset. This will force the phone to return all software information. If the problem is software in nature, factory reset should help.

Problem #3: How to fix Galaxy S9 moisture detected error: moisture detected error after getting wet with urine

My phone was in the back pocket of my trousers and I went to the toilet. However I forgot about my phone being in my pocket and when using the toilet, urine accidentally made contact with it. This happened while I was at work. Immediately I dried it with tissue. But it wasn’t until I got home 3-4 hours later that I removed it from the case and saw that there was still moisture on the back of the phone. I dried it again with tissue. This happened on Tuesday 14th August. When I went to charge it I was given a ‘moisture detected’ notification. The next day, Wednesday 15th August, I put my phone on top of my radio so as to dry it with the light heat coming from it. I did this throughout of the whole day. Yet, when I tried to charge my phone, I still received a ‘moisture detected from USB and charger port’. I did not use my phone during the whole of Wednesday, and I am now writing this on Thursday 16th August. I am still unable to charge my phone due to moisture detected. I have put my phone in rice on the hope that it will dry it out, but I am still concerned that this problem had extended to two days. What should I do?

Solution: Your Galaxy S9 is water resistant and should be okay after you get is wet with low-pressure water or liquid. However, Samsung does not recommend exposing your S9 to non-water liquids like urine as residue may not be fully removed from the charging port. There may be some residue still deposited in the charging port. To address the issue, make sure to rinse the charging port properly with clean water. Don’t use high-pressure to do this though. You can pour clean water in the charging port then gently shake the phone to remove any remaining water inside. Then, you can leave the phone in room temperature for several hours to allow water to evaporate naturally.

How to fix Galaxy S9 Plus that can’t send / receive text messages

Highlighted below are some more inputs on what to do whenever you’ll have trouble sending or receiving SMS or text messages on your Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. Feel free to use these subsequent walkthroughs when necessary.

First solution: Restart your phone (soft reset).

Minor software glitches that might have prevented your device from sending or receiving SMS are often dealt with by a simple restart on the phone also referred to as a soft reset. It clears up the internal memory and refreshes the system without affecting any of your important data on the phone. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Press and hold the Power button.
  2. Tap the option to Power off.
  3. Tap Power off again to confirm.
  4. After about 30 seconds, press and hold the Power button again until your phone boots up.

Alternatively, you can perform a simulated battery removal equivalent procedure or soft reset using the hardware keys. It’s used to reboot a frozen or unresponsive device and works similar to the usual restart.

To do so, press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons simultaneously for up to 45 seconds. Release both buttons when the Samsung logo appears.

Second solution: Remove and reinstall the SIM card.

Sometimes SMS sending and receiving failed due to random SIM card issues. A quick simple solution to this is to reseat the SIM card on the phone. Here’s how:

  1. Turn your phone completely off.
  2. Press the card insertion or removal tool into the combined nano SIM/microSD card tray pinhole and then gently push it in until the tray pops out.
  3. Slide the nano SIM/microSD card tray out of the slot.
  4. Remove the SIM card from the tray and check for any signs of damage. If the SIM card looks good, place it back into the tray with the gold contacts facing the back of the phone.
  5. Press the nano SIM/microSD card tray back into its slot until it clicks.
  6. Once the tray is secured in place, press the Power button to turn your phone back on.

Third solution: Clear cache and data from the messaging app.

Corrupted caches or temporary files in the messaging app can also cause conflict to SMS messaging function of the phone. In this case, clearing cache and data on your messaging app will likely fix it. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Swipe up or down from the Home screen. Doing so will open the Apps screen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Apps.
  4. Tap to select your Messaging app.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap Clear Cache to wipe out temporary files from the messaging app.
  7. Tap Clear Data to delete all temporary data saved in the app’s memory.
  8. Read and review the message prompt, then tap Delete to confirm.

Restart your phone then open the messaging app afterwards. Create a test SMS message to see if  sending and receiving are already working.

Deleting old and unwanted messages and conversations can also help if the problem is somehow tied to a corrupted message thread or conversation.

Fourth solution: Reset network settings on your phone.

Network options or relevant settings that aren’t properly configured may also be the underlying cause. Network settings can be altered automatically by some updates be it for apps or Android. If you have enabled auto-update on your device, then this is possible. To fix the problem you can try a network settings reset with these steps:

  1. Swipe up on an empty spot from the Home screen to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap General Management.
  4. Tap Reset.
  5. Select the option to Reset network settings.
  6. If prompted, enter the PIN or password for your device.
  7. Tap Reset settings to confirm action.

Fifth solution: Master reset or factory data reset your Samsung S9 Plus.

As your final option, perform a factory data reset or master reset. The problem could be due to a major system error that can only be rectified by a full system reset. Please note though that you will lose data in the process so creating a backup would be necessary. Here’s how it works:

I will share with you the solution that we’ve always been using to make your phone respond again. While we’re always tempted to think that if the phone has BSoD, the problem could be in the hardware but most of the time it’s not. In fact, the problem is more on the firmware side than hardware. Needless to say, you can fix it on your own without any help from someone. With all that being said, here’s what I suggest you do about this:

Do the Forced Reboot

If you’re familiar with battery pull procedure we often do to phones with removable batteries, well this is its counterpart but you can only do this to phones with non-removable batteries like the S9 Plus.

  • Press and hold the volume down button and the power keys at the same time for 10 seconds or more.

The combination is hard-wired in your phone so it will respond to it as long as it’s done correctly. If your phone still doesn’t respond to it, try doing it a couple more times to make sure or you may try these steps:

  1. Press and hold the volume down button and don’t release it.
  2. Press and hold the power key while holding down the volume down button.
  3. Keep both keys held down for 10 seconds or more.

It’s basically the same as the first procedure only that we’re making sure you’re pressing the volume down button first before the power key because doing otherwise won’t result to a Forced Reboot and your device may still not respond. After making sure you’re doing it right but your device still doesn’t work, then try the alternative solution.

Alternative Solution

It’s also possible the battery got completely drained and the phone hasn’t shut itself off properly and such may result to a system crash. In case of a firmware crash, the phone won’t respond to whatever you do with it now imagine what would happen if the crash is accompanied with a drained battery.

To rule out this possibility, here’s what you need to do about it…

  1. Plug the charger to a working AC outlet.
  2. Connect the phone using the original cable (I highly recommend you use the wired charger).
  3. Regardless whether the phone shows the charging signs or not, leave it connected to its charger for at least ten minutes.
  4. Now, press and hold the volume down button and the power keys at the same time for 10 seconds or more but this time while the device is connected to its charger.

These solutions are more than enough to fix minor problems with the firmware or even the hardware. Fix #1: Force restart your S9

One of the basic things any user must do when faced with any Android problem is to restart their device. Some bugs are only temporary and can only last as long as the system is engaged. The moment the system is turned off, the bug also vanishes. To restart your S9, simply press the Power button and select Restart from the Power menu. If you’ve already tried this before, then try to simulate a “battery pull” to do an alternate way to restart your device. Here’s how:

  1. Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles. Note: Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
  2. From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. Note: Utilize the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume buttons) to select. Also, allow up to 90 seconds for the reset to complete.

Fix #2: Verify if signal is good on your location

No Service or Emergency calls only bug sometimes happen if a device has failed to establish stable connection to a cellular tower. To verify if this is the case, find someone with a device connected to the network you’re using and see if there’s good signal where you’re located. If only your phone is affected, then it may be a SIM card issue, an account problem, or an unknown software bug. Continue with the rest of the troubleshooting below.

Fix #3: Reseat the SIM

Sometimes, network issues occur if the SIM card is not properly inserted in the tray, or if it’s not making good contact with the board. To fix the problem, turn off your device and remove the SIM card tray. Then after 5 seconds, reinsert the SIM card, making sure that the card fits snugly in the slot. Afterwards, turn your phone back on and see what happens.

Fix #4: Replace the SIM

Another way to check if you have SIM card issue is by inserting your SIM to another device (make sure this phone is works on the same network as your S9). If your SIM still won’t work on this second device, that’s a clear indication that you have a SIM issue. Otherwise, continue with the troubleshooting below to find what’s wrong with your phone.

Fix #5: Verify if you’re using Fixed dialling feature

Dialling features sometimes interfere with a device’s network configuration which can manifest in No Service or EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY bug. Be sure to check if this is the case by disabling Fixed Dialling, if you’re using it. If you’re not using it, just ignore this troubleshooting.

Fix #6: If on Prepaid subscription, check balance

Some users of older Galaxy devices reported that they experienced No Service or EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY bug after exhausting their prepaid balance. Ideally, this is not supposed to happen but just in case, make sure to check your balance and see if this the reason behind this trouble.

Toggling Airplane Mode on and off can sometimes fixed all types of network bugs. To turn Airplane Mode on and off:

  1. On the Home screen or any screen, pull down the notification bar.
  2. Look for the Airplane Mode button and tap it to activate.
  3. Wait for 30 seconds before turning Airplane Mode back off.

Fix #8: Force your Galaxy S9 to change network mode

While restarting the device and reseating the SIM card can refresh the network settings, there’s another way to achieve the same. In many cases, this method is even more effective than restarting or reseating the SIM card. This method is manually changing the network mode. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Connections.
  3. Tap Mobile networks.
  4. Tap Network operators.
  5. Tap Search networks.
  6. Wait for your S8 to search for networks.
  7. Once it’s done searching,, select another network to connect to. For example, if you’re on T-Mobile, pick AT&T or any other network.
  8. Your phone will be forced to return with an error because it won’t be able to register successfully.
  9. Afterwards, select your own network again and see if your S8 will now be able to re-register.

Fix #9: Clear cache partition

A corrupted system cache can lead to performance issues and other issues so most Android troubleshooting packages almost always include wiping the cache partition. If you are yet to do this, here are the steps to do it:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key to highlight wipe cache partition.
  5. Press the Power key to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Fix #10: Verify IMEI is not blocked

If you got your S9 as a pre-owned device, or if you suspect that it may be blocked, you can check its IMEI status. Carriers may block a device for a variety of reasons and if that occurs, its IMEI may also be blacklisted. To check the status of your device’s IMEI, you can go to this site: imei.info.

Alternatively, you can check if your S8’s IMEI has been blocked by doing these steps:

  1. Open the dialer (Phone) app.
  2. Enter the code:  (*#06#).
  3. If the IMEI says Null, that means that the EFS folder may be corrupted, or may had been blocked. In this case, you can try to reflash the firmware and see if that will restore the default EFS folder. If that won’t work, your S8 will never be able to connect to any network.

Some carriers may block users from accessing advanced menus thru the dialer app. If nothing happens after you enter (*#06#), that means your S8 can’t open advanced menus.

Fix #11: Reset network settings

Should the issue still remain up to this point, the next thing that you want to do is reset the network settings. To do that, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap General management.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset Network Settings.
  5. Tap RESET SETTINGS button.

The steps above will reset wifi, mobile data, and bluetooth settings. This means that you’ll have to enter wifi passwords, re-pair Bluetooth devices, or re-enter VPN credentials again.

Fix #12: Factory reset

To eliminate possible software issue on your S9 that may be causing No Service or EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY bug, make sure to try a factory reset. As the name suggests, this procedure will return the phone’s software to its factory defaults. It will also delete personal data so be sure to back your files up before doing it.

To factory reset your S9:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Fix #13: Contact your carrier support

Finally, if nothing changes after a factory reset, that means that the problem may be account- or network-related. Be sure to contact your carrier so they can troubleshoot the problem on their end.

How to fix Galaxy S9 Plus with Snapchat that keeps crashing


This is not the first time that we encountered this problem and we’ve actually solved most of the problems sent to us by our readers. I want to share with you the solution that we’ve always been using to address this problem.

First solution: Reboot your Galaxy S9 Plus

Before anything else, try rebooting your phone especially if it’s the first time you encounter this problem. There are cases wherein this issue is caused by some minor glitches in the firmware or with the app itself. Hit that power key and restart your phone but if it doesn’t make any difference, try doing the Forced Reboot instead:

  • Press and hold the volume down and power keys together for 10 seconds or more.

It’s far more effective than just the normal reboot as it refreshes the phone’s memory by simulating battery disconnect. It also reloads all services and core functions of your device. However, if the problem still continues to bug you after this, then move on to the next step.

Second solution: Reset Snapchat

When it comes to applications, a reset means to delete their caches and data and that’s what I need you to do for Snapchat. Clear its cache and data so that it will be brought  back to its default settings and configuration. You may also be logged out by doing this but if the problem gets fixed, then you can simply log back in. Here’s how you do it:

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap App Manager.
  4. Locate then tap Snapchat.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap CLEAR CACHE.
  7. Tap Cached data.
  8. Tap CLEAR.

After this, try opening the app to see if it still crashes and if it still does, then you must do the next procedure.

Third solution: Uninstall Snapchat and reinstall it

If I think the problem is with compatibility, I would usually suggest to update the app in question. In this case, however, I want you to uninstall Snapchat to remove all its associations with the firmware and other apps and services. After you doing that, there will never be a single trace of the app in your device. Here’s how you do it:

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap App Manager.
  4. Locate then tap Snapchat.
  5. Tap UNINSTALL.
  6. Review the notification then tap OK to confirm.
  7. Reboot your phone to refresh it’s memory and other connections.

Now, to make sure you have the latest version of the app, download a fresh copy from the Play Store and reinstall…

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. Tap Play Store.
  3. Type ‘snapchat’ in the search box.
  4. Select Snapchat then tap Install.
  5. To continue, review the required app permissions then tap Accept.

The first three solutions should be enough to fix a minor problem like this. However, if by any chance the issue continues to bug you and you badly need to use the app, then a reset would be worth it. But before you actually do that, make sure to backup your files and data as they will be deleted and you may not be able to retrieve them. And since we will be using the Master Reset in this tutorial, remove your google account from your phone so that you won’t be locked out after the reset. Once everything is set and ready, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
