Email Does Not Refresh On Galaxy S4, Logins Required Every Time User Logs In

Here’s one problem that’s unusual, although it’s not entirely complicated. One of our readers emailed us saying his email does not refresh automatically and every time he launches the app, it would require his login credentials. Not only does the problem affects the timeliness in communication, it is also very annoying considering a username and password would be required every time the email app launches.

Here’s one of the email related to this problem:

I got a problem that’s bugging me for so long now. 

I just bought Samsung Galaxy S4 and it works fine. One problem I encountered with the device, however, is with the email. It does not refresh automatically like it used to be in my previous phone. The most annoying thing is that it asks for my logins every time I open the app. 

Do you know a solution to this problem? 


The problem our reader is experiencing is pretty much easy to solve, although I can’t explain why the email app has to ask for the login credentials every time it’s opened. I personally encountered this problem before with my mid-range Android smartphone and the following procedures solved it:

Clear Email Cache and Data

The first thing I did was to clear cache and data of the email client I used. The procedure would delete all settings including downloaded messages and therefore you would need to set everything up from the scratch.

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap More tab and choose Application Manager.
  4. Swipe left to choose All tab.
  5. Scroll to and tap Email.
  6. Now clear both the cache and data by tapping on respective buttons.
  7. From the Home screen, tap Email.
  8. Enter your email address and password then tap Next.
  9. The phone will automatically search for the settings. (If the handset is unable to find the settings, tap the correct account type.)
  10. Now enter the email user name. The password field will automatically be populated. Enter incoming server address if necessary, then the security type, and the port number.
  11. Tap Next.
  12. Enter outgoing server address, security type and the port number.
  13. Tap Next.
  14. Tap to set the Sync schedule, Peak schedule fields and other delivery options.
  15. Tap Next.
  16. Enter desire account name, and the name you want to appear in outgoing mails.
  17. Tap Done.
  18. Let the app download all your emails.

Re-Setup Your Email

These two procedures alone could fix this very simple problem. Otherwise, deleting the account and adding it back would.
