Galaxy Note 10.1 Download Issues

Problem: I’ve had the tablet for a year, but for the last several months I am unable to download anything (photos, documents) from an email. I get the note “staring download”, then nothing else happens. When I try to download something from the internet, I get the message “internet stopped working”. I can take lovely photos with my tablet, but am unable to share them with anyone … I can’t send photos or videos by email. Is there a simple solution to the above? Thanks for your help.

Solution: What you need to do first is reboot your device by simply turning it off then on again. We want to refresh your device and this usually solves most problems. Now check and see if you can surf the web by opening up a browser and going to “google.com” for example. If you can access the website then that means your device has Internet connectivity and its settings are correct. In this case the issue may be caused by a certain app installed in your device. To check on this simply boot it in safe mode.

  • Make sure your device is turned off.
  • Press the Power key to boot up your device.
  • After the start-up animation begins to display, press and hold the Volume down key until the Lock screen displays.
  • When the Lock screen is displayed, Safe mode is displayed in the lower-left corner of the screen. To boot your device into Normal mode again, turn your device off and then power it back on normally.

Once in Safe Mode try to share your photos or download email attachments. If it works then you might want to uninstall the recent third-party apps that you have on your device.

If however you can’t access any website then try checking your Wi-Fi settings and see if they are correct. If you are connecting through your mobile carrier then check on the APN settings of your device and see if it is the right one.

Galaxy Note 10.1 Proxy Server Issues

Problem: Hi, I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition tablet last November. Since that time, I have had issues with Web browsing.  I have taken it back to the store and even tried researching online for a solution but I have been unable to find one. The error message that I receive is “unable to connect to the proxy server”. I am able to view 1-2 websites and then I receive this message. I uninstalled Kaspersky Internet Security but I am still having the problem. I would greatly appreciate any help that you could offer. Thanks.

Solution: Are you using a proxy server for your connection? Which browser are you using? Does this issue also happen when trying to use apps such as Facebook or Twitter? What we need to do is refresh your connection. Turn off your device and then turn it on again. If you are connected to your home Wi-Fi network turn off your router then turn it on again. Check and see if you can browse the web normally. If the issue still exists then you might want to try to try to disable your proxy server.

  • Open your Wi-Fi settings
  • Find what AP (access point) you`re searching for
  • “Modify the network” and “Configure AP Settings.”
  • Select “Show Advanced Options”
  • Select “None from the drop down list of proxy options.

You also mentioned that you previously had the Kaspersky Internet Security installed on your device. A lot of users have reported that it automatically changes the Wi-Fi setting of an Android device by making it pass through a proxy server for a more secure online experience. This might be what is happening right now.

Galaxy Note 2 Keeps Lighting Up

Problem: My Galaxy Note 2 keeps lighting up, I’ve went to settings to motion and to quickly glance no box’s are checked, motion is off, ever since. the kitkat update my phone has been doing this and my carrier at&t has no clue as to what’s causing it,could my phone have a virus?

Solution: I doubt it’s a virus since it needs to be stealthy so it can infect a device longer. If it is made to make a device light up then it will be discovered immediately. There’s a big probability that certain apps in your device is causing this. Try booting your Note 2 in Safe mode to check on this.

  • Turn off the Galaxy Note 2 by pressing the Power button (positioned in the right edge of the device). Tap Power Off from the choices that will appear followed by OK.
  • Once the device successfully shuts down, press the Power button again, but this time, keep your finger pressed on it together with the Volume Down button.
  • Let go of the Power button when you see the Samsung Galaxy Note II logo but do not let go of the Volume Down key yet.
  • After that, you will see a status message telling you that your Galaxy Note 2 is now in Safe Mode. Let go of the Volume Down key and tap the OK button.

In Safe mode check and see if the problem still occurs. If it doesn’t then you may have to uninstall your third-party apps to get to the root of the issue.

If in Safe mode you are still experiencing the issue then you might want to do a factory reset on your device. Make sure to backup all of your important data first before doing the procedure.

  • Turn your phone off.
  • With the phone off, press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key. You’ll see the Android recovery screen.
  • Scroll to Wipe Data/Factory Reset using the Volume Up or Down keys. Select with the power key.
  • Scroll down to Yes, Delete User Data and select it.
  • Back on the first screen, scroll down to Wipe Cache Partition and select it.
  • Your factory reset is now complete.
  • Go to Reboot System Now to restart the phone.

Galaxy Note 3 Display Turns Off During Call

Problem: Hello! I am a thankful for your guide of fixes for this device. This a great phone and have not experienced any issues but one in particular that I just can’t seem to find in your list. I am using att version of the note 3, no root just stock everything. I have a screen protector that’s made by skinomi, the problem is when I get a phone call it automatically turns the screen off as if it is near my face but not. I have to manually turn the screen on and off while taking a call to interact. I have tried the troubleshoot by dialing certain digits and the reading shows that the proximity sensor is always showing that something is in front of the phone..  Is this a manufacturing issue? Is there a fix? App fix? Thanks in advance..  Oh BTW I have gone to settings and checked and unchecked the area concerning the proximity sensor.. Thanks so much.

Solution: When did this problem occur? Did it start just after you applied the screen protector? If so then it must be the cause since the proximity sensor can detect it and will turn off the display once a call gets in. Before removing your screen protector though try to check first if it is an app that is causing this problem by booting your device in safe mode.

To start your Note 3 in Safe Mode

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Power/Lock key for one or two seconds to turn on the device.
  • When the Samsung logo displays, press and hold the Volume down key until the lock screen displays.
  • When the lock screen displays, Safe mode shows in the lower-left corner of the screen.
  • It may be necessary to restart your device by removing and reinserting the battery, followed by pressing and holding the Power/Lock key to turn on the device.

Once in Safe mode have your device receive a call and see if the display still turns off. If not then an app is causing this behavior in which case you will need to uninstall it.

Galaxy Note 2 Google Play Store Won’t Open

Problem: Gentlemen, Thank you so much for your continued advice on all things pertaining to my Samsung Galaxy Note 2! Yesterday I installed the latest version of Kit Kat on my Note 2 which I have with Verizon as my carrier. Today I noticed that the Google Play Store would not open when I tried to look for a new app which had been recommended for me. My wifi connections are fine and all of my other apps (news, sports etc.,) load quickly and with no problems. Have there been any other issues with the Play Store app not opening since the latest upgrade? Thanks in advance for any assistance you might provide

Solution: For this issue you may need to clear the cache and data of the Google Play app.

  • From the home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • On the More tab, tap Application manager.
  • Tap the All tab, if All is not displayed, swipe left on the screen.
  • Scroll to and tap Google Play Store
  • Tap Clear cache.
  • Tap Clear data.

Go back to your homescreen then try to access the Google Play Store. There’s a big chance you will be able to access it right now.

Galaxy Note 2 Issues After AT&T Update

Problem: After I did the update from AT& T #1 my battery dies b4 noon time. #2  I can no longer write a note on the front of a photo that I have taken, the phone no  longer gives me that option in the drop down menu. #3 the pgone takes longer to go from page to page or app to app and also upon hitting home button it takes seconds to open where as b4 it was instantly. Thank you in advance.

Solution: It seems you are facing multiple issues after updating your device. What you need to do first is to perform a factory reset as most users who have updated their devices claim that most issues they have experienced seem to have disappeared after performing a factory reset. You will need to make a backup of all your important data first before starting the procedure.

Galaxy Note 2 Email Issues

Problem: Hi Droid Guy, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note II through At&T, up until recently I have had no problems with it, but now i’m having a problem with email ( yahoo & gmail ) the problem is it keeps reloading deleted emails, anywhere from a couple of days to a month or more, I’ve tried checking the email settings but can’t figure it out. Can you please help?

Solution: Are you accessing your emails using the stock Android app? Account Setup options then “Delete message from server” from “Never” to “When I delete from Inbox”. This will delete your messages from the server too. If the problem still exists then remove your email accounts from your device then re-add them.

Galaxy Note 2 Rebooting Problem

Problem: My Samsung note 2 model GT-N7100 Android version 4.1.1, today after I force close my phone due to downloading apps lagging, after reopen my phone, it keep rebooting itself once I turn on wifi and connect to wifi. After i closed wifi and use phone dataplan, phone function normal. Any solution regarding that? Thanks in advanced.

Solution: A lot of owners of the Note 2 who have experienced the same problem say that booting the device into recovery and clearing its cache does the trick. By clearing the cache of your device you get rid of old unwanted files that may be interfering with the operation of your device.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
  • When ‘GALAXY Note II’ appears on the screen, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache.
  • With ‘reboot system now’ highlighted, press the Power key to restart the device.

Galaxy Note 2 Blank Display

Problem: Hi droid guy, I need your advice to fix my samsung note 2 with blank screen (white color). My mobile was fine until this morning. When i try to unlock my samsung note 2 with gesture swipe, it was freezing and I turned off the mobile and turn it on again. When I turned it on again, the screen with the title ” Samsung Note 2 – Nt7105″ was freezing. and I tried to turn it off and pull out the battery and leave it for couple minutes. when I put in the battery, my samsung note 2 screen went blank (white color) and freezing eventhough I charged it with the charger I tried to hard reset for my samsung note 2, but when i tried to push together the button home, volume and on/off to get the factory setting, it didn’t come up, only the blank white screen and freezing. Is it because of the battery problem? or the hardware inside samsung note 2? your help will much appreciated.

Solution: Do you have an SD card in your device? Try taking it out then reboot your device. Usually when an SD card gets corrupted this sort of thing happens. If the issue still exists then the problem may be caused by the software of your phone. Are you still using the stock firmware for your device or are you running a custom firmware? If you are using a custom firmware it may have gotten corrupt in which case you will need to reflash your device.

Galaxy Note 3 Plays Music By Itself

Problem: I have a Samsung Note 3 on TMOBILE network. My phone plays a song “over the horizon”  by itself. I think the song came preloaded on the phone. The phone does this even when I have my phone on vibrate. I think it my be an app I downloaded  with some tracking virus,  but if it is how do I tell which one is responsible and remove it.

Solution: What you need to do first is a soft reset to clear out the temporary memory on your device and clear out the reserved power. To do this take out the battery of your device and press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds. Now insert the battery and turn on your device and see if the issue still exists.

If you are still experiencing the problem then you can check if an app is causing this by booting your device in Safe mode.

  • Turn off your phone.
  • Press and hold the Power button to boot up the phone.
  • Now, keep tapping the left Menu key continuously until you see the Lock screen.
  • That’s it. Now, you should see the Safe Mode label in the lower-left corner of the screen.

If your device does not play the music anymore then a third party app may be causing this.  Unfortunately this is going to be hard to pinpoint so you will need to manually uninstall your apps to see which one is causing the issue.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Problems, Questions, Errors and Solutions [Part 56]

Welcome to the 56th part in our series of troubleshooting articles dedicated to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. While most smartphone owners have already upgraded to the latest models there are still quite a number who are still holding on to the Note 2. Released to the market last September 2012, this device is almost three years old.

Samsung Glaxy Note 2

Despite its age it appears that it will be getting the official Lollipop update after all. Samsung Spain recently announced in a Twitter post that this phone will be getting Android 5.0 if during the entire update nothing happens. This contradicts what Samsung Gulf posted on its Facebook page that the device will not be updated anymore.

Considering the fact that this model comes with 2GB of RAM and uses a quad core processor it would be easy for it to run on Lollipop. The announcement made by Samsung Spain however is not 100% certain since it will only push through if no issues are present when the phone gets the update.

Note 2 Does Not Turn On Unless Connected To Charger

Problem: My note 2 turns off when I unplug it from the charger and I won’t turn back on unless I plug the charger back it. Please help thank you.

Solution: It’s very likely that the battery of your phone may already be defective. Try getting a new battery and use it on your phone.

Note 2 Does Not Turn On

Problem: Hello, I am using samsung note 2 since last 2 + yrs but now all of sudden it is not getting turn on. While I am trying to charge my phone then it is also not showing that my phone is charging. I have tried to turn on the phone through power button + home button + volume key down/ up button but nothing is happening. Just want to know what is the problem and how can I sort out this issue? Thanks & Regards.

Solution: Just like the problem we tackled above, this could also be a battery related case. Since your phone is already more than 2 years old the battery may already be very weak. Try getting a new battery and use it on your phone.

Connect the wall charger to your phone for at least 20 minutes before turning it on. If your phone does not turn on then try using a different wall charger.

You should also check the charging port of your phone for signs of lint or dirt. If you spot any then clean it using a toothpick.

Note 2 Stuck In Factory Mode

Problem: Please help. I have Samsung Galaxy note 2, and it’s stuck in factory mode with the box on the home screen, power button options don’t work, and I can’t put my phone on security lock

Solution: Try taking out the battery of your phone will it is still turned on. Press the power button for at least a minute to discharge the RAM then reinsert the battery. Turn on your phone and check if it is still stuck in download mode.

If the problem still persists then the factory mode setting on the EFS partition of your phone may be corrupt. You will need to manually edit this to resolve the issue. Take note that the procedure listed below only works for rooted phones. If your phone is not rooted then you will have to perform a factory reset after backing up your phone data.

  • Download “ES File Explorer” or “Root Explorer” app
  • Open ” Root Explorer” and navigate to : efs/FactoryApp/
  • Open “factorymode” file with text editor
  • Change it from “OFF” to “ON”
  • Save and exit then Reboot your device
  • If it doesn’t work, do the same steps for “keystr” file

Another method of doing this is by using the terminal.

  • Download “Terminal Emulator” app
  • Open “Terminal Emulator” and type “Su”
  • Press enter
  • Type the following

rm /efs/FactoryApp/keystr

rm /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode

echo -n ON >> /efs/FactoryApp/keystr

echo -n ON >> /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode

chown 1000.1000 /efs/FactoryApp/keystr

chown 1000.1000 /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode

chmod 0744 /efs/FactoryApp/keystr

chmod 0744 /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode

reboot

Note 2 Can’t Send Pictures Through Text

Problem: I have a Note 2 U.S Cellular phone flashed to Selectel Wireless. I’m unable to send pictures from my camera by text. Is there a fix?

Solution: Since this phone was initially a U.S. Cellular phone then its active APN setting may still be the one used by U.S. Cellular. Try checking the APN setting of your phone and see if this is the case. Make sure to change the settings to the APN of Selectel Wireless. You may have to contact the tech support of Selectel Wireless to get the settings on your phone.

  • Tap on Apps icon
  • Tap on Settings icon and then tap on More settings
  • Tap on Mobile networks
  • Tap on Access Point Names
  • Verify the APN settings

Another thing to consider is that when you send a picture through text make sure that your mobile data is turned on and that you have an active data subscription.

Note 2 Insert SIM Card Error

Problem: My phone just lost network and started saying ‘insert Sim card to access network services’, yet the card is in the phone already. I cleaned the Sim card and inserted into the phone but it remains the same error. On pressing the settings, mobile networks option says ‘no sim card’. On dialing*#*#197328640#, I get a black service mode screen with no options to select as per the trouble shooting steps. What should I do next?

Solution: Try inserting a different SIM card in your phone. If the issue remains then you will need to back up your phone data and perform a factory reset.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When ‘GALAXY Note II’ appears on the screen, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.

If the issue persists then this may already be a hardware related issue. You need to bring your phone to an authorized service center for further checking.

I cannot reboot, I cannot use any of the buttons as they are all frozen. I just have to take the battery out of the back and put it back in again. Can you help me with this? I thank you so much.

  • When ‘GALAXY Note II’ appears on the screen, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.

Problem: Hello, I got a problem, my phone is freezing at boot. I download the latest software update, 4.4.3 version. When it was done it has 3 options. 1. Cancel 2. Install All and 3. Install. I choose option 3 and then I waited until its finished installing the software. After several minutes it went to Samsung Galaxy Note 2 boot. It keeps on repeating and repeating I don’t know what to do. Please help me I don’t have a backup phone.

Solution: Try rebooting your phone first by following the steps listed below.

  • Turn off the phone
  • Take out the battery and the microSD if it has one installed
  • Press and hold the power button for a minute
  • Reinsert the battery but leave the microSD out
  • Turn on the phone

If the issue persists then wipe the cache partition of your phone.

If at this point the issue remains unresolved then you need to perform a factory reset. You should only proceed if you have previously made a backup of your phone data.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When ‘GALAXY Note II’ appears on the screen, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.

Note 2 Won’t Update To 4.4

Problem: Hi, I’m having trouble trying to find the 4.4 update for my galaxy note 2. When I check the system update, which is currently 4.3, it says that the device is up to date, even though I see countless people with the 4.4 update. I’ve been checking for the update since late January, but none seems to be available. I would really appreciate some help on the matter.

Solution: To be able to get the latest official update your phone must not be running on custom ROM and it must not be rooted. If no new software update is available while checking OTA you should try connecting your phone using a USB cord to a computer running on Kies.  Use Kies to check for new software updates for your device.

Note 2 “Unfortunately Internet Has Stopped” Error

Problem: Dear Last Hope of Mine, I am writing to moan about the problem I have with Galaxy Note 2 after its last update. Namely, it no longer opens the saved pages in the explorer. Bookmarks work fine, but when I try to open the saved pages, it says ‘Unfortunately, Internet has stopped’ and with these words the explorer closes up. I looked through your really helpful tips but couldn’t find the problem/solution thread on this one. PLEASE, help!

Solution: Are you using the stock browser of your phone? If you are using then try clearing the cache and data of this app.

  • From the home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • On the More tab, tap Application manager.
  • Tap the All tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the desired application.
  • Tap Clear cache.
  • Tap Clear data.
  • The application cache and data is now cleared.

If the problem persists then wipe the cache partition of your phone.

Note 2 Not Connecting To Wi-Fi

Problem: Hi…I’ve noticed that I’ve been having problems with my note 2. It will not connect to wifi…it just reads ‘saved’. When I found a possible solution, it directed me to find the wps on my wifi menu. There is no menu button for wifi on my phone. All it really shows is my networks I had connected to in the past and new ones. There is no menu button to find the wps. Plus my phone won’t connect…this is irritating.

Solution: Are you connecting to your own Wi-Fi network? If you are then try rebooting your phone and the router. Once both devices have rebooted delete your Wi-Fi connection from your phone then search for it and connect to it again. You may need to enter the password again.

Note 2 Slow Network Connectivity

Problem: Hi, I have been facing low connectivity issues since last two weeks. I tried with other sim card also but same issue occurred again. I did change the location to upper floors and it works fine. So I investigated why it is so. Initial suspect was that it might be the case of bad network at my area but that too proved to be wrong since I switched to other smart phone and it worked perfectly fine. The whole issue seems to be of my cell phone network receivers. Please provide me ways to troubleshoot the same problem and work it out.

Solution: To troubleshoot you phone connectivity issue you need the phone to be fresh. This means that you need to perform a factory reset then test the network connectivity. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

After the factory reset make sure that your phone is using the correct APN before testing the network.

If you still experience the same issue then this may already be a hardware related issue. You should bring your phone to an authorized service center for further checking. I suspect there may be something wrong with the phone antenna.

Note 2 Not Charging

Problem: Hello, all help is incredibly helpful as Sprint is telling me I have to buy a new phone and don’t have the money for that. My galaxy Note 2 all the sudden started installing a ton of updates one night as I pulled in my charger. Since then it randomly will not charge. I have tried different cables and outlets when it acts up. If the phone is off it shows the battery symbol when you plug in the charging cord like it recognizes it however it will not charge. Also when it is on and you plug in the charging cable the red service light comes on like it recognizes the charger is plugged in however the lightening blot in the battery symbol is not there nor does the battery percent increase. If I go to settings and then to battery settings it says there it is charging and the hours on battery increases but the actual battery life does not really hold that and the battery percent doesn’t increase. I have also tried a new battery and that didn’t work either. To me it seems to be some sort of software or programming issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated as now since sprint did a factory rest it will not hold any charge ever whereas before every now and then it would work normal. Please help.

Solution: Have you tried using a new battery on your phone? The most likely culprit in cases like this is the battery. Try using a new battery first and check if the issue still occurs.

If the problem persists then this may already be caused by a hardware issue most probably dealing with the power IC of the phone. If this is the case then you will need to bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking and repair.

Note 2 “Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped” Error

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (Jellybean v 4.3). I looked through the list of problems, but I couldn’t find one regarding my phone app which keeps closing on me. I bought my phone through T-Mobile, but I had purchased it without any contract to the carrier. I never used their services, using the phone pretty much like a tablet. It came with a SIM card, but I had never activated it, nor did I ever lodge it into my phone. Now, 2 years later, I am trying to use a Japanese SIM card, but I am unable to unlock my phone, and when I try to type in the numbers to access the service menu, it closes down saying “Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped”. I’m not sure if I can even unlock my phone at this point or what I should do. Please advise if it’s possible to unlock my phone or if purchasing an unlock code is possible. Thank you!

Solution: If you bought your phone from T-Mobile then chances are it is locked to that network. If you are trying to access the service menu and you get the “Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped” you should first try to clear the cache and data of the contacts app.

  • From the home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • On the More tab, tap Application manager.
  • Tap the All tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the Contacts application.
  • Tap Clear cache.
  • Tap Clear data.
  • The application cache and data is now cleared.

If the error message still appears then wipe the cache partition of your phone.

There are several ways to unlock you Note 2 and the safest is to purchase an unlock code. If you want to tinker with your device then you can also unlock it yourself following the instructions listed below.

For this to work your phone has to be locked and it should be running on Android Jelly Bean 4.1 or higher.

  • On the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, launch the phone app and dial the following keys: *#197328640#
  • From the Main Menu, navigate to [1] UMTS > [1]Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options.
  • In the Options screen, choose [3] Perso SHA256 OFF. After choosing this option, wait for 30 seconds.
  • Now go back one step by pressing the Menu button and then select Back once. You should now be in [6] Network Lock.
  • Choose [4]NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ. After that, wait for a minute.
  • After a minute, reboot your Galaxy Note 2.
  • Your phone should now be carrier unlocked and ready for any SIM card to be used

Note 2 Not Charging Completely

Problem: I leave my phone on charger all night and it only charges to 75% or less. I have tried 2 different chargers. The lighting bolt comes on when I plug it in so the phone thinks it is charging. Is it possible I have a bad battery? or is it something else. thanks

Solution: It’s possible that you may already have a faulty battery. Before replacing the battery try to perform the following troubleshooting steps below.

Reboot phone then check the charging status

  • Turn off phone
  • Take out the battery
  • Press and hold the power button for a minute
  • Reinsert the battery
  • Turn on the phone

If the problem still persists then get a new battery.

Note 2 No Software Updates

Problem: I have a Galaxy Note 2 and I can’t update the operating system. I think this is due to my having Net 10, but I was wondering if you all have any suggestions on how I could update it.

Solution: If you are not getting any software update notifications OTA then another option is to use Kies. Make sure that you have Kies installed in your computer. If you don’t have this software then download it from the Samsung website.

  • Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable. Firmware upgrades are available only when you connect your device via USB.
  • Open Kies. When a new version of firmware is available, you will see a notice on the Basic information tab.
  • Click Firmware upgrade to start the upgrade process.
  • You will be taken through the backup process to preserve all of your data.

Note 2 Charges Slowly / Battery Drains Fast

Problem: My samsung galaxy note 2 is taking a lot of time while charging and moreover when I am not using the phone then also the battery drains very fast.

Solution: It looks like this may already be a battery related issue. Try getting a new battery and use it on your phone. It’s very likely that the problem will disappear with the installation of a new battery.

Note 2 Stuck At Boot Logo After Charging Overnight

Problem: My Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was fine and no problem until last night. I charged my phone as usually and go to sleep. But when I woke up this morning, I found out my Note 2 freeze and the screen with the title “Samsung Galaxy Note II GT-N7100”. I already tried to pull out the battery and when I turn it on again it still the same. So I turn it off and I tried to charged it but the battery charge picture didn’t come out (the green one). I also tried to hard reset, push and hold together power button, home button and volume up button and all the step but when it restart, it still freeze. What’s the problem? ur help will be much appreciated.

Solution: It looks like this issue may be caused by a corrupt software. Try taking out the battery again (take out the microSD as well if your phone has one installed)  then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This clears out any temporary data in your phone RAM that may be causing this problem. Reinsert the battery then try turning on your phone.

If the issue persists then try wiping the cache partition of your phone.

As a last resort you should consider doing a factory reset. Make sure that you have previously backed up your phone data before proceeding.

Note 2 Resets When Bluetooth Activated From Notification Panel

Problem: Hi there, I have a problem with my Note 2. Whenever i click Bluetooth toggle in notification panel it’s always give reboot.  It’s fine if i turn on Bluetooth in setting.  Don’t know why cause i never faced this problem before even though I’m on Custom ROM for the last 10 months. Or could you tell me where’s Bluetooth related directory in system?

Solution: It looks like this may be a ROM related issue. Try getting the latest version of the custom ROM your phone is using and reflash it. The version you are using may have bugs that’s causing this problem.

Note 2 Messages Not Displayed In Order

Problem: I have the Samsung Note 2. About 4 months ago, my messages that I sent go above the last message received instead of below it. Then, when they reply back to me, it stacks on top of my last sent message. I have looked for numerous settings to fix this, but cannot find a solution!

Solution: This may be caused by a glitch in the messaging app. Try clearing the cache and data of your phone’s stock messaging app.

If the problem persists then wipe the cache partition of your phone.

Note 2 Can’t Make Calls After Charger Port Replacement

Problem: I have a galaxy note 2 through at&t. All of a sudden it wouldn’t charge. So I have had this phone for a while and I know a little about working on it. So I purchased a new charge port and installed it . Simple right. Well after that the phone charges fantastic but now it says out of service area when I try to make a call. Can’t receive calls either the phone never rings. It will show up if a voicemail is left but I can’t call from the phone to even check it. I can send and receive texts all day and use the internet and data no problems. But it will not make a call what so ever. Any suggestions on what might have happened?

Solution: Try placing back your old charger port. If you can make a call with it then there’s a possibility that the new charger port may have a problem or it is intended for a different Note 2 variant.

If you still can’t make a call using the old charger port then this may already be a motherboard related problem. Your best option is to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Note 2 Camera / Gallery Responds Slowly

Problem: Anytime I use the camera app that came preloaded (I am the original owner and have had phone almost 2 years) the app crashes.  It does capture the picture but I have to wait for the phone to reboot and then go to the gallery which is very slow to respond to see the picture.  This happens with every photo I take.  I cannot take several in a row, or see a photo right after I take it.  Of course by this time if the photo taken isn’t good the moment is gone as is the opportunity to capture another photo.

Solution:  Your phone may already have a lot of cached data which is causing this lag issue. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone and see if this helps resolve the problem.

If the problem persists then go ahead and back up your phone data then perform factory reset.

Note 2 Dotted Lines On Display

Problem: Hello.. i am using a note 2 and my phone is having dotted lines all over it.. it was not dropped by me.. but i am not sure because when i took my phone after 4 hours it was having this problem.. i had this problem before but it was normal after some days but this time its not going away.. i am sending a picture of the dotted lines.. please help.. please reply soon..

Solution: This looks like an issue with the display hardware. It could be with the LCD screen or the display controller on the motherboard. You should however check if this is a software related issue first by performing a factory reset. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

Try to observe if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then it may just be caused by a glitch in the software. If it still occurs then this may already be hardware related. You should bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 2 Does Not Download From The Internet

Problem: Hi! I have a problem with my note 2, when i download from the internet it says, “starting download…” but the download doesn’t appear at the notifications, then i checked at the downloads it doesn’t appear also. Please help me, thank you.

Solution: The first thing that you should do is to make sure that your phone is connected to a stable Internet source. If you can’t download a file using your current Wi-Fi connection then try connecting to a different Wi-Fi source and see if that helps. You should also try using your mobile data connection to check if the problem still persists.

If the download still fails then your next step is to check if a third party app installed in your phone is causing the issue. To verify this, you should start your phone in Safe Mode.

Try downloading a file from the Internet. If the download is successful then the issue may be caused by a third party app. Find out what that app is and uninstall it.

If you are still having downloading issues even when the phone is in Safe mode then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone.

Note 2 Forgets Profile

Problem: Hello My Note 2 seems to forget my profile. No matter how many times I set it up, it erases my profile shortly after. Can you help? Thanks.

Solution: Try restarting your phone then setup your profile. If it still gets deleted then this may be caused by a software glitch. You need to back up your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 2 Notification Light Turns On Even If Phone Is Off

Problem: Hi Droidguy. Im sorry if this problem has been answered already, but I could’nt find it on the troubleshoot page. My problem is that whenever I turn off my phone, like shut it down using the shut down function, the blue notification light it lit. It is not blinking, its constantly lit. I do have a battery problem on my phone, and a new battery is on the way. Can this problem be caused by a faulty battery? And also, my headphone Jack is also broken. Does this have something with this to do? Thanks in advance!

Solution: There’s a possibility that this could be a battery problem. However, if your notification light is on then your phone has not fully turned off yet.

What you should do is to determine if this is a software related problem by performing a mater reset. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

If the problem still persists then we may be looking at a hardware related problem. Try replacing the battery and if that does not work you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Note 2 Automatically Turns Off

Problem: My phone got really hot in my car and now it won’t stay on. It will charge to 100% but when unplugged it automatically turns off.

Solution: In most cases like this it is usually the battery that has a problem. Try getting a new battery and use it on your phone.

Note 2 Motherboard Swap Issue

Problem: Hello, I have several Note 2’s and I was trying to replace the motherboard from one phone to another. Everything seems to work except I keep getting an error message saying “unfortunately Samsung keyboard has stopped” the error message does not come up when I put the old motherboard back in just the new ones. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Solution: If everything else works fine on the new motherboard then problem may just be software related. You should start with clearing the cache and data of the Samsung keyboard app and see if this resolves the issue.

If the problem persists then proceed with wiping the cache partition of the phone.

Note 2 Software Issues

Problem: So i mistakenly bid won a used sprint galaxy note 2 i has SOFTWARE ISSUES is this fixable??? Do u have any solutions u could give me over email or should i give up now and call it a loss please be honest iv already recommended   u to a hand full of people.

Solution: What issues does the phone have? If there are quite a few then you should do a master reset first then check the phone again.

If the same issues still occur then this may already be a hardware related problem. You can have your phone checked at an authorized service to determine the exact nature of the problem.

Note 2 Can’t Make / Receive Calls

Problem: My Samsung. Galaxy Note 2 won’t call out or recieve calls. I’m on Verizon prepaid so i spent 45 dollars on a phone i can’t use

Solution: Does your phone have a signal? If not then you may be in an area that does not have good coverage. Try checking your phone in other places and see if the signal will appear. If you get a signal then try making a call.

If your phone has a signal but the problem still persists then turn off your phone then turn it back on after a few seconds. This re-establishes the connection between your phone and your network which usually works in this case.

If you are still having a problem making a call or sending a text message then contact Verizon regarding this as there may be issues with your prepaid account.

Note 2 System Software Not Updating

Problem: I have a Samsung galaxy note 2 SCH-I606. Baseband i605VRAMC3. Its a Verizon phone but has been flashed for service thru selectel wireless. My android version is 4.1.2 & it’s not allowing me to update to 4.4.2 version. When I check for update it keeps bringing up a window stating “service unavailable.  To check for software update go to settings > about phone when service is available” why doesn’t my phone allow me to update to 4.4.2 version I605VRUFND7? I HOPE U CAN HELP. THANKS

Solution: You should try updating your phone using the Kies software. You need to back up your phone data first. Next, you need to download the Kies software form the Samsung website then install it in your computer.

  • Start Samsung Kies
  • Connect your device to your PC or laptop using the supplied USB cable.
  • Ensure that Kies recognizes your device by looking in the upper section of the left-bar navigation menu.
  • Once Kies recognizes the device you will see a pop-up. Click Update.
  • Read through the Caution pop-up and, if you agree, click to populate the “I have read all of the above information” checkbox.
  • Read the Allow saving of information statement and select Allow saving or Proceed without saving and then click Start upgrade.
  • Kies will begin downloading firmware upgrade components from Samsung servers. This will take a few minutes depending on the speed of your Internet connection.
  • After a few minutes, Kies will then begin transferring the firmware binary to the device. Do not disconnect the cable connected to the PC.
  • During the upgrade process, you will see the Android logo on your devices screen.
  • When the update process has completed, click OK.
  • You can now disconnect your device from the PC. Once the device has rebooted it will be ready to use.

Note 2 Not Detected By Computer

Problem: Hey, from time to time i hear static when i connect a headset to the note 2 so i’m trying to update to see if its a bug in the software or its a hardware problem, the note 2 however after downloading the files and the actual update s to begin it says the computer cannot detect the phone, its so frustrating. need help please !!!!

Solution: Try restarting you phone and the computer then check if the phone can be detected. If the problem persists try using another USB cord. You should also make sure to plug the phone straight to your computer USB port and not pass through a USB hub.

If your phone is still not detected then try to use a different computer.

Note 2 Turns Off Even If 100% Charged

Problem: My galaxy note 2 phone says it is 100% charged. If I unplug it from the charging cord it goes dead and will sometimes reboot on it’s own. Before it goes dead the cellular service shuts off and I see the circle with the bar through it. The battery is not loose. I did a factory reboot and cleaned off all the apps. It wasn’t dropped. I ordered a new battery so I hope that is it? Do you have any other ideas? Thanks.

Solution: It’s very likely that this may be a battery issue. Just wait for the new battery to arrive then use it.

Note 2 Limited Notes Section In Contacts

Problem: Good morning! The notes section of contacts on my Note 2 is truncated to about 947 characters and then it will takes no more. The same is true for the 3 and 4 and all the S-series too. I have had this problem with all of my Samsung phones since the S3. For most people this may be too esoteric, but it is a problem for me (and a few others who have foisted similar complaints on several of the Android blogs over the recent years).  This it is NOT an Android problem , as I have tried to duplicate this limitation on other Android and Apple brands. Interestingly, the Nexus 6 has no such limitation at all and the LG 3 truncates after about 34 screens-worth of text, so there has to be a line of code somewhere that limits the number of characters. However,  I attend meetings frequently and I truly love using the S pen; so, switching to anything else is just unappealing. I had the serendipitus experience of meeting one of Samsung’s VPs at a New Year’s party this year, but except for discussing our mutual experiences in Austin, Texas, he had nothing usuful to say. Back in the old days, when my HTC X7500 was new, I was able to expand the number of characters of that field in the Windows Mobile code; so, there has got to be a way to fix this problem.  Any suggestions?

P.S. The aftermarket phone contact apps are not what I am looking for, but I am desparate to solve this problem, as the Note series is absolutely the best phone for all that I do.

P.S.S. I have read the rumor that LG is comming out with a Note-like phone in the near future, but I have delayed gratification since I got the Note 2 and that’s long enough. Any help you can throw my way will be greatly appreciated!

Solution: This is clearly a limitation in the software design of the phone.  It’s going to be difficult to edit the software and change the way it accommodates the number of characters in the notes section of the contacts unless you know how to tinker around with its ROM.

One other suggestion I could provide is to test out the other popular custom ROMs designed for your phone and see if this issue is not present. This will however introduce other drawbacks which may not be present with your current phone software.

Note 2 Can’t Flash CM ROM

Problem: I have a samsung galaxy note 2. I rooted it and have installed cm11. It worked perfectly. Then I installed DN4. It was also okay, but I wanted cm back. Then I could not install cm 11 and none of the cm roms. Not even the original rom or any other. It just installs DN4 normally. Help me please because I am seek of using the DN4.

Solution: Try following the instructions outlines in this website https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_n7100.

Note 2 Automatically Opens Website

Problem: Hi team, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2. For the past few days whenever I unlock the phone I am being redirected to the following website which again takes me to the play store app ending up in SIMULATOR REAL DEATH RACING app page. The website is https://apps.2048-games.com. I already un installed all the apps whichever I installed from last couple of months. But still I’m facing this issue. Please help.

Solution: This issue is usually caused by a third party app installed in your phone (most likely a free app with lots of ads). You should find out what app this is and uninstall it. Another option which is effective is to go ahead and perform a master reset. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

Note 2 No Sim Detected

Problem: Hello and good day to you, I have a note 2 and I activated the phone then 30mins later (no sim detected) so I bought another SIM card tray same problem still.  I have been looking to see anything wrong, but It seemed to have happen after an update about my Message settings.

Solution: Try to check if there is any dirt or lint present in the SIM tray and clean it if you spot any. Make sure that you are inserting the SIM card correctly and that it doesn’t wiggle around.

You should also try to insert another SIM in your phone to verify if your SIM is the problem.

If this issue started right after a software update then I suggest you perform a master reset. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

Note 2 Opens Different Sites When Launching Browser

Problem: Hi this problem is really troubling me. When i open the internet on my cell many different websites launch up saying the version i am using is outdated and tell me to install some god damn launcher and i can’t stop this but helplessly look at it. Please help.

Solution: This issue is caused by a third party app installed in our phone, most likely a free app that has several ad pop-ups. The best thing to do in this case is to back up your phone data and do a factory reset.

Note 2 Calls Go To Voicemail

Problem: Hey droid guy, I am running the samsung galaxy note 2 and.  It randomly will not take calls it sends them straight to voicemail with my phone on and running . also randomly I will not receive text messages when they are sent I have checked the date stamp it says recipient sent at 9:53 a.m. and I received it at 11:30 AM now I have talked to my service provider and they say all my services are working properly. I already tried wiping the cache partition, and tried *#21# work for a day or two then back to not working properly. I am very familiar with Android and I love the Galaxy Note but I’m very skeptical now on buying another note please help me I have tried everything you are my last hope also my buddy has the same phone and he is experiencing the same issues thank you for listening please get back to me ASAP thank you PS my main concern is the calls but I’d like to fix the text problem as well

Solution: Try to determine if this issue is caused by a third party app by starting your phone in Safe Mode.

Have someone call your phone. If your phone rings then the issue may be caused by a third party app installed in your phone. Find out what app is causing this issue and uninstall it.

One last troubleshooting step you can perform if the above step fails is to do a factory reset. Make sure to back up your data before proceeding.

If the problem still persists after the factory reset then this may already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 2 Does Not Turn On After Screen Replacement

Problem: Hi I recently tried to replace the screen on my note 2 for Sprint I did connected every wire connection changed the screen and now it won’t turn on I reconnected every wire twice and nothing if u can please help me with this.

Solution: Check the battery and make sure it has sufficient charge. It’s better if you connect the phone wall charger while turning your phone off.

If your phone still does not turn on then you may have missed something during the screen replacement. Retrace the steps you took and make sure that each part is properly connected.

Note 2 Lags When Connected To Internet

Problem: Hello there. My note 2 n7100 got a very serious problem. My phone always hang when the line become slow. What i mean here is when i opened something that related to internet line such as wechat whatsapp or facebook even when im surfing. Please fix this up man  ur help is very welcome. Thanks

Solution: You should first verify if the connection isn’t the problem. Usually, if the Internet connection is slow, the apps that connect online will also appear to lag. You can do this by connecting a computer to your Wi-Fi network and do a speed test. If you are connected on a mobile data network then check on the signal strength and make sure your phone has the maximum number of bars.

Once you have verified that the connection is good then it’s time to troubleshoot the phone.

The first thing you should do is to reboot the phone. This refreshes it and clears out any temporary data that may be causing the problem.

You should also wipe the cache partition of your phone if the reboot fails to resolve the issue.

If the problem persists then back up your phone data and do a factory reset.

Note 2 Backup Data Won’t Restore To Note 4

Problem: Hello. Hoping you can help here as I am at my wits end. Wife dropped her Note 2 and shattered the LCD.  Phone still works but screen is black.  She has a ton of contacts she did not back up as well as some messages and S notes.  While I can access the phone using the USB and a computer, as well as perform a back up, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get these files to her new Note 4. Kies can back up.  However, it does not allow me to access these files to upload to the Note 4.  Do you know of any way to get this done? Thank you in advance.

Solution: Make sure that your computer has the correct version of Kies installed. Try to check if you performed the correct procedure in backing up and restoring the data.

For Note 2 Back up use Kies 2.6

  • Connect your device to your computer.
  • Open Kies and click the Back up/Restore tab.
  • If necessary, click Data backup.
  • Mark the checkbox next to the content you want to back up. You can select all content by marking the checkbox next to Select all items. Click Backup.
  • Click Complete when the backup is finished.

For Note 4 Restoring of Data use Kies 3

  • Connect your device to your computer.
  • Open Kies 3 and click the Back up/Restore tab.
  • If necessary, click Restore data.
  • Click Find file.
  • Select the file to use, and click Open. File types must be .spb, .ssn, .sn3, .sme, or .ssc. If the previous backup included multiple file types (for example: Contacts, Images, and Messages), you must restore each one individually.
  • Kies 3 will attempt to restore the data.
  • Click Complete when Kies 3 is finished transferring the content.

Note 2 Bluetooth Not Working

Problem: Hi. The bluetooth on my note 2 seems to be not working correctly. Whenever I sync it with my headphones ‘beats by dre’ it cuts in and out. And the only way it will stay connected is I have to hold  the phone directly to my face. I’ve tried turning the phone on and off, un syncing the headphones and re syncing. I’ve even synced the headphones with a galaxy 5 ‘thinking I had a bad pair of headphones’ but it worked fine.

Solution: If your initial troubleshooting failed to resolve the issue then try manually checking first if there are any new software updates available for your phone. If there are, then install the updates otherwise you will have to back up your phone data and do a factory reset.

If after the factory reset you are still having Bluetooth issues then this may already be hardware related. Bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Note 2 Static Noise On Headphones

Problem: I have the note 2 and my issues is even I connect my ear phones it is just staticy.. This is the second note 2 I’ve had and they both did the same thing after some months.. Can you help?

Solution:  Does the issue occur in one particular area? If it does then there may be some form of radio frequency interference that’s causing the static noise in the earphones. The radio interference may be caused by fluorescent lamps, UPS, treadmill, or any device with a bad electrical wiring.

Try going outdoors and see if the static noise still occurs. If it does then try using a different pair of headphones.

Note 2 Crashing After 4.4.2 Update

Problem: Evening, I just got back from getting my galaxy Note 2 updated with version 4.4.2 from BestBuy, and upon getting home and tried to play some music via Bluetooth and: it failed. I tried numerous times: no fix. Then I lost all other Bluetooth devices from my phone. Went back to BestBuy and had them reflash my phone: Bluetooth started intermitting. Then my WIFI started acting up. I cleared all the cache & did a recovery: still no fix.  I have an unlocked Galaxy Note2, and this is the first time since I’ve had it fail! Your expertise will be greatly appreciated.

Solution: If a factory reset does not resolve the issue then you may need to have the phone reflashed again but this time see if there is another stock firmware version available that is compatible with your phone. The version that your phone is using now may have compatibility issues.

Note 2 Connection Time Out When Accessing Play Store

Problem: I have been experiencing the problem of not accessing play store… my phone keeps saying.. “connection time out”. I can’t Google chrome. It takes long to download. I have tried so many solutions you are my last hope.

Solution:  The first thing to check in cases like this is the Internet connection your phone is using. It may be unstable or slow causing the connection time out error to occur.

If your phone is connected to your Wi-Fi network then try to reset the router. You should also try to connect to your Wi-Fi network using a computer and do a speed test. This way, you can check if the connection is fast.

If your phone is using the mobile network then check if you are using a 3G connection. If it isn’t using 3G then the speed will definitely be slow and you will most likely experience this connection time out error.

If the Internet connection is working fine then it’s time to troubleshoot your phone.

First, reboot your phone. This refreshes it and purges any corrupt temporary data that may be causing this issue.

If the problem persists then wipe the cache partition of your phone.

If you are still having the same problem at this point then back up your phone data and do a factory reset.

Note 2 Stuck With DN4 ROM

Problem: Hello. I have a samsung galaxy note 2 and it is rooted. At first I installed cyanogenmod and it worked fine. Then I installed DN4 rom and it was great, but it was not so great as cyanogenmod. I wanted to install it back but it did not boot. Then I tried every other rom that I could think of and nothing booted up. I can only flash DN4 and it boots. Can you help me to install a new rom because DN4 is killing me?

Solution: Try to perform a wipe data/factory reset from the recovery menu before installing the Cyanogenmod ROM.

Note 2 Keeps On Restarting

Problem: Hi. I’m having a trouble with my samsung galaxy note 2 (GT-N7100). Whenever I will restart my phone, it will just display “SAMSUNG GALAXY N-7100 NOTE 2” then black screen then appears again. But when I plugged it to a charger it will start normally. I already tried factory reset but nothing happened. Oh there’s more, whenever I open the mobile data, it will lost its network signal and appears again after, maybe 5s. I already tried asking a technician about these and he said that my phone needs to be reprogram. Is there a way I can reprogram it? Hope you can help me. Thanks.

Solution: Since the factory reset failed to resolve the issue you should consider other factors that may be causing this problem. On top of the list is the battery. Try replacing your battery and see if the issue still occurs. If your phone has a microSD card then try to remove it as well.

If the problem persists then there may be a need to reflash the phone software. To do this you will need a copy of the correct firmware version for your phone and a software called Odin installed in your computer. Instructions on how to perform this procedure can be found at most of the popular Android forums online.

Note 2 Wi-Fi Turns On When Screen Is Off

Problem: When I turn wifi off in the notification panel, then turn my screen off and then turn it back on, wifi is back on. It does this every time. I have all of the options for switching between mobile data and wifi unchecked, also have wifi on during sleep set to never. It seems it has something to do with screen timeout because I can turn wifi off, turn screen off them immediately back on and it’s on again. Please help!

Solution: Try going to your phone’s mobile network settings then disable “Connection Optimizer”.

If the problem still persists then this may be caused by a third party app installed in your phone. To check if this is the case you should start your phone in Safe Mode.

Check and see if the Wi-Fi still turns on when the display turns off. If it doesn’t then this problem is most likely caused by an app installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the problem persists even in Safe Mode then back up your phone data and do a factory reset.

Note 2 Email Does Not Load

Problem: Hello, I have an att samsung galaxy note 2 and I am having issues with the email app. For some reason when I try to check my email only 1or 2 that I have read show up. I wait for it to load and nothing happens. I took a screen shot of the issue which is attached. I recently traded my iphone for the samsung galaxy note 2 and so far I wish I would have kept my iphone. My email is very important to me so I am hoping somebody could help me with this. I use the standard mail app for my email.

Solution: The first thing you should do is to verify if the Internet connection is not causing this to happen. If you are connected using Wi-Fi then switch to mobile data and vice versa. Check your email while on a different Internet connection and see if the loading issue still occurs.

Once you have determined that the Internet connection is fine the next thing to check is if certain apps in your phone are affecting the way emails are being received. To check if this is the case you should start your phone in Safe Mode.

If you can receive emails normally in this mode then the problem may be caused by an app, most likely a security related app. Find out what app is causing this and uninstall it.

If the issue persists even in Safe Mode then restart your phone then clear the cache of the email app.

  • From the home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • On the More tab, tap Application manager.
  • Tap the All tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the Email application.
  • Tap Clear cache.
  • The application cache is now cleared.

One other measure you can take is to delete the email account then add it again. Make sure to save any important messages that you have before performing this procedure.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Problems, Questions, Errors and Solutions [Part 51]

Welcome to the 51st part in our series of troubleshooting guides dedicated to the Galaxy Note 2. Despite being more than two years old already, this phone which was released running on Android Jelly Bean is getting the latest Android Lollipop update. This is indeed quite rare as most manufacturers do not update the software of their older generation phones.

galaxy note 2

The reason why the Note 2 is still popular is that the hardware specs of this phone is still superior to most mid-range models out in the market today. Although this phone has great specs it doesn’t mean that it is immune to issues. This model has also its fair share of software and hardware related issues.

In this latest installment of the series we will tackle some of the emails our readers sent us. These emails are about the issues they are facing with this particular phone. We will take a look at these issues and come up with the troubleshooting steps required for a resolution.

If you own a Galaxy Note 2 or any other Android device for that matter then feel free to send us an email at [email protected]. We will be more than happy to assist you with any concern that you may have with your device. This is a free service we are offering with no strings attached. We however ask that when you do send us an email ty to be as detailed as possible so that an accurate assessment can be made and the correct solution can be given.

Note 2 Screen Mirroring Not Working After Root

Problem: Hi, after rooting my note 2, attempting to use screen mirroring gives off error just when it’s about to connect to a screen mirroring enabled TV. Before rooting the device it was working fine.

Solution: Several other Note 2 owners have also experienced this very same issue. It looks like the AllShare Cast feature is affected once the device is rooted. One possible solution is to download and install the fix as listed here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542509. While I haven’t personally tried this fix several other people on the forum who have tried it says it works.

Note 2 No Sound

Problem: Hello, i have a galaxy note 2. I was having issues with people hearing me during phone calls. I found the mic hole clogged with dirt. After removing the cover and cleaning out the hole i also removed the speaker assembly to clean it off. I now have absolutely no sound whatsoever. Do you have any suggestions to fix this issue. thank you.

Solution: You will have to eliminate the possibility that a software glitch is causing this issue by doing a factory reset. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

If your phone doesn’t have any sound after the factory reset then this may already be hardware related. There may be a cut wire on the speaker or the speaker itself may be defective. I suggest bringing your phone to an authorized service center for checking and repair.

Note 2 No Network Mode In Settings

Problem: I have a galaxy note 2 i317 but there is no network mode in settings and the phone is only picking up edge. Can you tell me if you know whats wrong?

Solution: It looks like you are using the software version where AT&T has disabled the changing of the network mode. There is however a workaround to this. On your dial pad press *#*#4636#*#* which will bring you to the device information screen. Scroll down to Set preferred network type then set it to LTE/GSM auto (PRL).

Note 2 Broken Photos

Problem: Please help me…I don’t understand what has happened to my photos.  Many are just black with a 3 segment white icon in the lower left corner, others have fonts all over them and what I do have is no longer in chronological order. The love of my life committed suicide 2 years ago, what few pictures I had left of him are messed up. Please help me…tell me they are not gone and can be restored. Thanks in advance.

Solution: If this issue is caused by a glitch in the software then you should try wiping the cache partition of your phone first. Don’t worry as this procedure does not delete any of your photos.

If your photos are stored in on the microSD card of your phone then try taking it out and insert it in your computer. Check if you can access the photos from your computer, if you can then copy them.

If you have activated the sync feature of Google Photos then you can access your photos from any web browser by opening Photos of your Google account.

Note 2 Tilt Function Not Working

Problem: My samsung note 2 tilt function is not working with games like temple run…please help

Solution: Verify first if this issue is not caused by a software glitch by doing a factory reset. Make sure to back up your data before proceeding.

If the issue persists then your phone may have a faulty sensor. You should have this checked at an authorized service center.

Note 2 Freezes Then Resets

Problem: Hello! I recently read an article (https://thedroidguy.com/2014/10/samsung-galaxy-note-2-problems-questions-errors-solutions-part-32-98916#dAKC2U8RiqDIJd14.97) and I was wondering if you could help me. Well, I recently got a galaxy note 2, second hand used for 18 months. I have owned it for three or four weeks now and i’ve been having a lot of problems. It all started like two weeks ago, 1st while playing Clash of clans the phone froze and there was no way to unfroze it, just by clicking the power button until it restarted. The thing was that it would restart but as soon as you got to the lock screen it will froze and then reset by itself and it will go over and over again, nonstop, unless I could manage to turn it off. I tried taking the battery out, but as soon as I turned on it would freeze again on lock screen. So While off I connected it to the power and then when the charging icon appeared I would turn on the phone and freezing would stop. That just happened like one time a day, and just when playing clash of clans. I could use any other app like facebook or messages and nothing happened. A couple of days later while using another game app happened the same. It froze and would reset nonstop unless turned off and turned back on when charging. I started to notice that the signal bars will disappear and instead there was a  “prohibition” simbol. And it will never disappear neither will it stop resetting. Since last week ,now the phone will freeze at any moment using any app. And resetting won’t stop unless I turn it off, connect it to charger and turn it back on while charging. I have tried, uninstalling game apps, factory reset and cache clean but none will work. I also did some research and read something called “insane chip syndrome” and tried what it said. Installing two apps: one to diagnose if I had “insane chip” (which wasn’t the case) and another called “dummy file generator”. That didn’t work at all. The things I have noticed are the next:

1-It only freezes if I’m playing or using any app, and the battery is 60% or less.

2-Before it freezes the signal goes off and the “prohibition” or probably no signal symbol appears. And sometimes a notification of “full battery, unplug charger” appears simultaneously.

3- if it freezes and resets or I try to restart it, it will keep freezing on lockscreen (and reset over and over) if the “no signal” symbol appears instead of signal bars.

4- The “no signal” icon, constant freezing and resetting will only stop if I manage to turn off the device and plug it to power and turn it back on after the charging icon appears.

5- I once tried, when the no signal icon appeared, to turn on the flight mode, wait a few minutes and then it of. The signal bars came back and there was no freezing. But second time I was unsuccessful because the phone would freeze before I could turn on the flight mode. Thank you for your time.

Solution: Since this is a second hand phone we can’t determine what the history of this phone has with regards to its issues. What you can do right now is to try to get a new battery and try it on your phone.

You should also do another factory reset then take out the microSD card of the phone if it has one installed. Sometimes a faulty microSD card can cause a phone to freeze, especially if there are apps trying to access data stored in it.

If the issues persists then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 2 Settings Button Randomly Activates

Problem: Hi my wife note 2 is acting up. It may have had water splashed on it. What is occurring is while on any browser page, home screen or game it’s as if you are touching the settings button intermittently causing whatever menu there is to be displayed. We ran a virus check.. nothing. She thought it was due to game being played so we deleted that.. nothing. Could a small amount of water cause this kind of issue or is it something else. Thank you for helping.

Solution: Water can indeed cause this type of issue. You should however check first if this is a software related problem by doing a factory reset. Back up your phone data before performing the steps listed below.

If the problem still persists then the phone may have suffered some water damage. Have it checked at an authorized service center.

Note 2 Turns Off When Idle

Problem: Droid guy, I cannot find my exact problem on your site.  My Note 2 just started turning itself off a couple of days ago after two years of use.  It only turns off when not in use.  If I set it down and it is idle, in less than a minute it will be off.  I have to take out the battery to get it to restart.  If I play music or connect to a Bluetooth device it will never turn off, even if I drop or shake it.  The battery is 100%, the contacts are clean, and I am sure that is not the problem.  I did a hard reset yesterday and the problem continues. Appreciate any help. Thanks.

Solution: Try replacing your phone battery with a new one and see if the problem disappears. You should also try taking out the microSD and observe if the phone will still turn off. If the problem persists then this may already be caused by a faulty hardware. Bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 2 Randomly Resets

Problem: Hello!  I really hope you can help with my frustrating problem. A short history:

Phone worked BEAUTIFULLY for 2 years…no problems to speak of Phone dropped a call and rebooted to “your system has become corrupted…reset to factory settings…all your info will be lost.” I did the full factory reset. Since then the phone will reboot occasionally on its own and get extremely bogged down. I’ve tried a number of different fixes (clearing the cache, doing another factory reset, etc) with nothing helping I downloaded CPU Monitor Advanced Free and monitored my system to find that “System_server” is hogging an average of 80% of the CPU and max of 100%…the next highest usage application is at 8%…so I’m pretty confident the problem is this this item. Any advice for what I can do to correct this?  It is fully updated for android, and I do not pack a ton of programs on the phone, so I’m at a loss as to how to fix this. Thanks!

Solution: Does your phone have a microSD card installed? Try taking it out then do a factory reset. Make sure to back up your data before performing this procedure. After the reset do not install any third party apps just yet. Observe your phone first if it resets. If not then install just one app then observe your phone again. Do this until you reach the point where after installing an app your phone will reset. The problem may be caused by that particular app.

If the issue still persists then you should consider reflashing the firmware of your phone. You will need a copy of your phone firmware and a software called Odin installed in your computer. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 2 Freezes After Startup

Problem: Hi, My Note 2 recently started hanging/freezing when being charged or just after charging when I try to switch it on. It freezes at the point where it says Note II and stays on that screen or switches to the battery charging image. Any ideas what might be causing this? Does it sound like a battery problem perhaps? Greatly appreciate your help.

Solution: Try wiping the cache partition of your phone first and see if this resolves the freezing issue.

If the problem persists try replacing the battery of your phone.

Sometimes a faulty microSD card can also cause this issue. Try to take out the microSD card if your phone has one installed and see if the freezing issue disappears.

If the problem still persists then a factory reset is highly recommended. Just be sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

Note 2 Only Connects Using Edge

Problem: Hello, I have a serious problem with my phone. Its a samsung galaxy note 2. The internet connection keeps giving me an edge ‘E’. It never gives me an H nor a 3G and I cant download with an E. Please help me.

Solution: You should first verify if this issue occurs in one particular location or in any location since this may just be a network coverage issue. You can do this by going to different places and see if your phone will get any 3G or H signal. You can also contact your carrier regarding the coverage in your particular area.

If the network coverage is good then you should check your phone network settings. Go to Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Network Mode > make sure that WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) is highlighted.

You should also try to turn off your phone then turn it on after a couple of seconds. This re-establishes the connection of your phone to the network.

Note 2 Won’t Send Pictures

Problem: I just recently got a galaxy note 2 that is rooted and moded and it will not let me send pictures do you have any clue on why this would happen? Hope you can help thank you.

Solution: Yu may want to check on the APN settings of your phone and see if it matches that used by your carrier. Go to the website of your carrier and check the APN settings used. Compare this to the one used in your phone and if the settings don’t match make the necessary changes.

You can access the APN settings of your phone by going to Settings > More Settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.

Note 2 Call Can’t Be Heard

Problem: Hello I recently bought a Verizon note 2 from someone and immediately noticed the phone had problems and had a tech look at it and he was stumped to so I was hoping I could see what your opinion is.   After activating a Sim with straight talk and transferring service I made my first call.   I was able to hear them but they couldn’t hear me.   Then I restarted phone and it was both I couldn’t hear them and they couldn’t hear me or vice versa.  I sometimes can receive a call and it work normally other times it does one or the other issues above.   I did a hard reset which I thought fixed the problem.   If the phone is restarted and the Samsung logo comes on with no sound then the phone won’t work.   This goes for mic speakers phone calls ring tones any thing.   Or will work for a bit then stop spontaneously.  Once the phone stops making noise then the phone will act up.  Also noticed upon several restarts that the Samsung can have two different tones at start up.   Also the clock has showed incorrect times. I also tried using another person’s sim card in my phone with same results I am running on the 4.4.2 version I am stuck with the phone as the other girl changed her number after selling and I’m sick with the problems.   Please help and thank you.

Solution: Since you are not the first owner of this phone it is highly recommended to do a factory reset. If you have any data stored in the phone then make a backup before proceeding.

If the problem persists after the factory reset then this may already be a hardware related problem. Bring the phone to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 2 Battery Charging Meter Does Not Work

Problem: My Note 2 is having some kind of battery issues. When I plug charger to it, it does shows that the battery is charging.(e.g, 26%). After an hour, I pressed the button to wake up the screen to check how many percent had it charged (e.g, 57%). After another hour pass, when i check my note 2, the battery indicator stick at 57%. When I turn off the charger and turn it back, it shows a higher amount of battery. I have been go through your website to find a same cases like mine, but it seems like no one encountered the same problem that I’m facing at. Please help me to resolve this issue. Thanks in advance

Solution: Try using a different wall charger on your phone and see if the issue is still the same. Check the phone charger contact points for any dirt and clean it with a toothpick if you spot any.

If it is the same then wipe the cache partition of your phone.

Note 2 Camera Failed Error

Problem: HELP!!!!  I am so frustrated with my Galaxy Note 2 camera!! EVERY TIME I try to use the rear/back camera, like you’d do to take a selfie, I get this error… Camera Failed!! I’ve read, searched and tried everything…. including taking it into a Sprint store…. and had absolutely no luck at all. This has been going on for 9 months!!!

Solution: Try clearing the Camera app cache and see if this resolves the problem.

  • From the home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • On the More tab, tap Application manager.
  • Tap the All tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the Camera application.
  • Tap Clear cache.
  • The Camera cache is now cleared.

If the error still occurs then try to determine if this is caused by a third part app installed in your  phone. To do this you should start your phone in Safe Mode.

Try to use the camera app and if you don’t get any error then the problem is most likely caused by a third party app. Find out what that app is and uninstall it.

If the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then a factory reset is highly recommended. Back up your data first before proceeding.

Note 2 Randomly Not Receiving Text Messages

Problem: Hello! I was browsing your website to see if I could find a solution to my problem, but unfortunately I didn’t. I decided to send you this email to see if someone with tons of experience with this phone could help me.

My problem:

Ever since I switched from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy Note 2, text messaging hasn’t been working completely. To be specific, I can send texts perfectly, but on random moments I won’t be able to receive text messages. For example my girlfriend can text me and resend the same message 3 times and I won’t get it. It doesn’t arrive later either, it just gets lost. I’ve searched everywhere online, but I haven’t found a solution :(.

What I’ve tried:

  • -I’ve rebooted my phone
  • -I’ve changed my simcard and got a brand new LTE one
  • -I’ve disabled the LTE service
  • -I’ve downloaded a few third party texting applications

My father works at my phone service provider and he has never had my problem. In fact, my Note 2 was his before my iPhone stopped working properly. Now he has a Note 3, and gain, he says that he has never encountered my problem with either phones. I also asked a friend who owns a Galaxy S5 with a different service provider and he told me that he also sometimes doesn’t receive text messages, so it leads me to believe that it may be a problem with the phone.

The last thing I’m considering doing is giving my phone a complete factory reset. I did perform this a while ago, but I did make a backup for it, so I’m going to try, as a last alternative, a completely clean reset. But I wanted to message you, as a final resort, before doing that.

I’m not a fan of the Note 2. I find it too big for my preference, but I do prefer the OS and overall style, and was looking into getting a Galaxy S5 Mini, but if I can’t fix this problem then I much rather go with an iPhone as my next smartphone. Thank you! Have a good day! Please help!!!

Solution: You can try starting your phone in Safe mode first and observe if you still miss incoming text messages. When your phone is in Safe Mode it will disable all third party apps installed in your phone. This makes it easier to troubleshoot if the issue is caused by an app installed in your phone.

If the problem disappears in this mode then you should find out what app is causing this and uninstall it. Otherwise your last resort is a factory reset.

Note 2 Battery Swelling Issue

Problem: Hi, My battery is swelling. Battery discharge automatically. Need a charger to start the phone. Phone automatically hangs and gets switch off. Please do help. Thanks.

Solution: A phone battery that has swollen is unsafe to have since there is a tendency of it leaking or even exploding. The fact that you need to connect your phone to a charger is proof enough that the battery needs to be replaced immediately. Try to replace the battery with an original Samsung battery. Once you get the new battery avoid overcharging it and make sure to keep your phone cool since heat is one contributing factor to the battery swelling issue.

As for the other issue of your phone hanging and getting switched off I suggest performing a factory reset to refresh your phone. Make sure to back up all your data before proceeding.

Note 2 Touchwiz Home Stopped Working

Problem: I have Galaxy note 2.  I’ve somehow lost TouchWiz.  Instead it says that TouchWiz home has stopped.  How can I get it reinstalled? Thank You.

Solution: You don’t need to reinstall the TouchWiz app to resolve this issue. If you are getting a TouchWiz Home has stopped error message then this may just be a setting or a software glitch issue.

The first thing that you should do is to clear the data of this app. Take note that this deletes all configuration that you made on the app so you will have to set it up again.

  • Go to Settings
  • Select Applications
  • Tap the Running or All tab and choose TouchWiz
  • Tap Clear Data

Most of the problem will already be resolved. If you are still experiencing the problem even after clearing the data of the app then the next step is to reset all the app preferences of your phone.

  • Access Settings
  • Choose Application Manager and select the All tab
  • Tap the Reset App Preferences option
  • If a confirmation message appears, just tap Reset Apps

Note 2 Stuck In Factory Mode

Problem: Good day, I have a note 2 that somehow is stuck in factory mode. I try to restart the phone but it still boots in factory mode.

Solution: Try restarting your phone and at the same time clearing out its temporary memory.

  • Turn off phone
  • Take out the battery
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 3 minutes
  • Reinsert the battery
  • Turn on the phone

If your phone is rooted you can open your file explorer program then open the file “factorymode” in /efs/FactoryApp directory. Edit the word OFF to ON then reboot your phone.

As a last resort you may also perform a factory reset. Take note that this will delete all data stored in your phone. If you previously backed up your data then you can proceed with the steps listed below.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When ‘GALAXY Note II’ appears on the screen, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.

If the issue persists then this may already be a hardware related issue. This is probably caused by a faulty digitizer or a defective motherboard. I suggest bringing your phone to an authorized service center for checking and repair.

Note 2 Not Automatically Toggling Between 3G/4G

Problem: My note 2 sgh1317 worked good for 6 months.  It’s an AT&T phone and I’m using net 10. It has the kitkat 4.4.2 and it started messing up In December.  The 4glte works good but when I make a call it goes to 4G and 1 bar normally pops up and the call drops. I’m in zip code 71111 or 71109 most of the time.  I did factory resets and took it to samsung and they  flashed the phone. Seems like it won’t toggle radios back and forth. 3g 4G toggle app helped some but it’s annoying to keep doing it during calls. Is there a code or some type of fix to this problem? I put the simian my s4 mini gti915 and it is perfect. Tried another sim in the note and it still does the same. Hspa, cdma,3g was good before December by the way. And yes the apn settings are correct.  Please assist.

Solution:  A quick check online will reveal that there are also other owners of this phone complaining of the same issue. This could be a software issue which may be resolved when the official Lollipop update arrives.

In the meantime, the best solution right now is to continue using the toggle app since all forms of software troubleshooting have already been exhausted.

Note 2 Flash Not Working

Problem: Dear Droid Guy, I have a Samsung galaxy 2 note. I’ve had it for about a month and the only way it works is when it’s plugged into a charger. I’ve discovered this problem about a week ago. However I’ve ordered a battery and waiting for it to be shipped to me. But now my flash has randomly stopped working. It doesn’t work on any flashlight apps either. Is there any way I can fix this problem without having to pay? And also do you think it’s because of the battery that’s causing the problem? Thank you for your service.

Solution: The chances of the battery affecting the flash is very remote. Since this issue happened randomly there’s a chance that this may be a software related problem, otherwise this may be due to a faulty hardware.

What you need to do first is to wipe the cache partition of your phone. This clear out any temporary data in your phone, some of which may be corrupt and may be causing the flash not to work.

If the problem persists then do a factory reset. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

Check the flash and see if it works. If it doesn’t then wait for the new battery to arrive and recheck the flash with the new battery installed. If the flash still does not work then this may already be a hardware related problem. You should bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 2 SD Card Write Access Lost After Update

Problem: Hi, I have a Galaxy Note 2 and a while back I installed a minor Andriod update.  (Android version 4.4.2) Immediately I lost the ability to write to my external sd card anywhere on that card. I was using DOSBox Turbo to run some DOS programs on my external sd card and immediately lost write access to those files.  This caused me to lose access to all of my appointments in a DOS based PIM program that I use.  That program must alter the datafile upon startup, so it would no longer even open so I could access any of my appointments, events, repeating events and info on past events and completed tasks! Since that happened, I never did find anywhere on the external sd card that I could write to, and eventually had to move everything internal to /storage/emulated/0/download! Having my programs and data on the external sd card in the past offered an easy way to access those files in case of any access limiting damage to my phone. Now I only have read access to my internal sd card with no ability for the phone to write to it, anywhere, at all.  It has made my external sd card completely useless to me.  There isn’t even write access to the external sd card’s download directory anymore! Why did I lose write access to my entire external sd card and will the upcoming Lollypop update make moving all of my DOS applications a necessity yet again to an unknown location, just to retain write access. I contacted support for DOSBox Turbo when it happened and they had no idea what happened either. They verified that I had no write access anywhere to my external sd card as well and suggested that I transfer all of my files to the internal location I stated earlier. Will there again be a way to move my program and data files to my external sd card when we are able to install the lollypop update onto my Galaxy Note 2? Everyone seems to be stumped by this.  Your help in figuring out what happened and if I’ll experience more problems upon the lollypop update for the Galaxy Note 2 would be greatly appreciated.

Solution: The KitKat update that you got on your phone prevents apps from writing data on the SD card for security reasons. Prior to the 4.4 update apps had permission to read and write to the SD card. While this is indeed a good feature the problem is that most apps simply dumped their data anywhere in the SD card instead of just one location. Another problem with this is that it is a security risk. Apps that have permission to read and write data on SD cards can also do so on any folder, including your phone system folder. This means that your data could be at risk.

The Android Lollipop update will bring back the ability of apps to read and write to removable storage, even on directories that the app does not own. This means that the DOSBOX turbo app that you are using will have permission to write to the SD card if your phone will run on lollipop and if the said app will be updated to run on Lollipop.

Note 2 Stuck In Safe Mode

Problem: HI, I have a Samsung galaxy note 2 which is stuck in Safe Mode, everything I have tried has not works. I done a web search and came across your web page and it mentions about Flash Firmware using ODIN. Would you recommend that I try this as nothing else works. Kind regards.

Solution: Flashing your phone using Odin is the last course of action that you should take if all else fails. Remember, this will delete all data on your phone so make sure to make a backup copy first.

Before flashing your phone make sure to check if you have performed the following steps listed below.

Discharge your phone

  • While the Galaxy Note 2 is on, open the back panel and remove the battery.
  • Leave it without a battery for a minute but at the same time, press and hold the Power button. This will discharge its electronic components of stored electricity.
  • Place the battery back in.
  • Boot normally.

Wipe cache partition

You should check if the Volume Down button is stuck. If this button is stuck your phone will boot to Safe Mode every time you turn it on.

Note 2 Recorded Videos Can’t Be Played

Problem: Hello I have a Samsung galaxy note 2.  I take videos with it and it works fine, I then go into it to play it back and then it comes up with an error saying video can’t be played.  I can’t work out as to why because video was originally taken with phone.  If you have any suggestions it would be appreciated. Regards

Solution: Where is the recorded video file saved? If it is saved in your phone’s microSD card then the card may be defective. Try taking out the card and have your computer read it. Check if you can play the recorded video file using your computer. If it can’t be played then chances are the file was saved in a corrupt memory sector of the card. You should consider getting a new SD card.

If the recorded video file is saved in your phone internal storage then try clearing the cache and data of the video Player app you are using to playback the file.

  • From the home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • On the More tab, tap Application manager.
  • Tap the All tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the desired application.
  • Tap Clear cache.
  • Tap Clear data.

If the problem persists then wipe the cache partition of your phone.

Solution: Flashing a fresh firmware on your phone using Odin should be the last course of action that you should take. While this may solve the problem there is also a chance that it may not if the issue is hardware related. If for example the volume down button of your phone is stuck then there is a possibility that your phone will always boot in Safe Mode.

If you decide to flash your phone then make sure to back up your data first as this will be deleted in the process.

Also, you may want to check if you have performed some of the steps listed below before flashing your phone.

Clear your phone RAM

  • With your phone turned on take out its battery
  • Remove the microSD card (if you have one installed)
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 3 minutes
  • Reinstall the battery (leave the microSD out)
  • Turn on your phone

Uninstall any apps that you installed before this issue occurred.

Wipe the cache partition

Note 2 Won’t Power On When Battery Fully Drained

Problem: Hi there, I own a Samsung Galaxy note 2 and when my phone dies it won’t power back up again even when I plug it into the charger. I have the original charger to. So this forces to me go buy another battery. This has happened multiple times now. Could it be the battery or the phone? It is really frustrating buying batteries every time it dies. Do you have any info that will help? Thanks.

Solution: You should first verify if your charger is indeed working by using it to charge another phone. Once you have verified that it is working then the problem may be phone related.

What happens here is that the battery does not charge at all. This is the reason why you need to get a new battery whenever it gets drained.

Try cleaning the charging port of your phone with a toothpick or toothbrush. Make sure to take out the battery when doing this. There ae instances when dirt or lint may interrupt the connection between the charger and the phone which in return prevents the battery from being charged.

If the issue still persists then the charging component inside the phone may be faulty. You will have to bring your phone to an authorized service center for further checking.

Note 2 SIM Card Removed Error

Problem: Hi, I need your help. My GALAXY NOTE 2 is having issues. I receive a message that reads “SIM CARD REMOVED” “THE MOBILE NETWORK WILL BE UNAVAILABLE UNTIL YOU RESTART WITH VALID SIM CARD INSERTED” RESTART is the only option. Which i usually press to retart. This happens anytime when am use the phone but most especially when making a call. this usually ends the call. so i restart the phone. I will appreciate if you can help me. thank you in advance.

Solution: There are three possible reasons why your phone is having this issue. This could be caused by a glitch in the software, an issue with the SIM card itself, or a hardware related issue. Perform the troubleshooting steps below to resolve the issue. Move on to the next step if the issue still remains.

If this is a software related problem then a factory reset is highly recommended. Make sure to back up your data first beforehand.

  • Press the Power key to turn the restart the device

There is also a chance that the SIM card you are using may have a problem. Try using another SIM on your phone and see if the problem remains. Try to check if the SIM fits securely in place and that it does not move around. If the SIM card moves or is not secure then it will lose its contact the phone causing the error message to appear.

One other possible reason why this issue occurs is due to a faulty hardware component. The SIM card holder may have a problem or the SIM controller of the phone may be faulty. If this is the case then you will have to bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 2 “Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available” Error Message

Problem: Hello, I just rooted my Galaxy Note 2 already running Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean and when I tried to check for update I get this popup saying ‘Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available.’ I’m not using an SD card Am just using the internal memory. How can i solve this problem.  Thanks.

Solution: Once you root your phone you won’t be able to get the official updates OTA since a mechanism is in place that checks your phone software of any modification. If you need to get the official software update then you will need to unroot your phone as well as reset the flag counter. Instructions on how to do this are available at most of the popular Android forums online.

Note 2 Mobile Data Does Not Immediately Turn On

Problem: Hey there. I am using Samsung Galaxy Note 2, sometimes when i recharge my internet data, then when i turnd on the mobile data option, then it doesn’t react, and there is no sign of mobile data, and internet also not working. Please suggest what shall be done to rectify that problem.

Solution: Your phone needs to reset its connection with the network in order for the mobile data to turn on. In most cases, when you already have an active mobile data subscription the phone will immediately get a mobile data signal. There are times however, depending on the network you are using, when you need to refresh your connection to the network before you can get a mobile data signal.

I suggest you switch off your phone then switch it on after a few seconds. This will allow you to get a mobile data signal.

Note 2 Camera Flash Randomly Turns On

Problem: Have a Samsung galaxy note 2 and the back flash randomly flashes. The flash is turned off. Tried to factory reset phone and it still does it. Please help if you can.

Solution: You should first verify if this issue is caused by a third party app by starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the default apps are loaded while the third party apps are disabled.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • When ‘GALAXY Note II’ appears on the screen, release the Power key. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • ‘Safe mode’ will display in the bottom left corner of the screen. Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode.’

If the problem does not occurs in this mode then a third party app may be causing this. Find out what that app is and uninstall it.

If this issue occurs whenever you receive a notification on your phone then the flash notification may be active. Try turning this off by going to Settings -> Accessibility -> Flash notification, make sure there is no check mark.

If the issue still persists then you should consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to back up your data first before proceeding.

  • Press the Power key to turn the restart the device

If after performing a factory reset the issue still remains then this may already be a hardware related issue. You should bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 2 Does Not Charge

Problem: My Galaxy note 2 won’t charge when I connect it to a wall the car or computer, it just buzzes and displays a message stating the charging paused, battery temperature is too high. Now I have replaced the battery multiple times, changed the charging port, done a factory reset and even used compressed air and a toothbrush to clean the port. It’s all stock nothing has been changed or tampered with and I use an external battery charger but it is so annoying. ANY help and I do mean anything would be greatly appreciated I don’t know what else to do

Solution: The battery temperature sensor of your phone may already be faulty which is why you are getting the error message. You should have this sensor checked at an authorized service center.

Note 2 Stuck In Boot Loop

Problem: Hello Droid Guy, I’ve ran into a serious issue with my Note 2. It’s stuck in a reboot loop. However, when it is plugged into a computer it will not reboot for a moment, but after that moment passes it will reboot itself. I have wiped the cache partition (in recovery mode) and rebooted it, to no avail. Looking forward to your advice.

Solution: If wiping the cache partition does not resolve the issue then a factory reset is the next step you should do. Make sure to back up your data before performing this procedure and make sure to take out the microSD card (if you have one installed).

  • Press the Power key to turn the restart the device

If your phone is still stuck in a boot loop then you should consider reflashing your phone firmware via Odin.

Note 2 Audio Recording Issue

Problem: Recently I’m not able to hear audiom recordings in Whatsapp and Telegram. But the person on the other end could hear my voice recording. When I tried using the voice recorder on my phone and hit playback, it works fine. Its also fine when I recorded audio on the LINE app. Is it the problem with Whatsapp and Telegram? Or other apps that I installed that causes these 2 apps to have problems? I’m using Samsung Note 2.

Solution: Since the problem only occurs when you use the WhatsApp and Telegram apps then there may be something wrong with both apps. Try clearing the cache and data of both apps then uninstall them. Go to Google Play Store and download both apps to your phone. Check both apps again and see if the audio recording issue is resolved.

Note 2 Video Files Not Visible On Laptop

Problem: Hi droid guy, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100. When I connect the Note 2 to the laptop and browse the Note 2 Phone \DCIM\Camera folder to download photos and videos I could only see photos but no videos. So I can’t download videos. I can see and play videos on my phone but they are invisible when browsing the Phone\DCIM\Camera on the laptop. I’ve successfully downloaded videos from the Note 2 to the laptop before. This started happening when the phone memory was full and even after deleting so much I still can’t see the videos on the laptop when browsing the phone DCIM folder. I’ve turned the phone off and on. That doesn’t work. I looked through your answers to queries online but didn’t find a query/answer to do with that. Appreciate your sound advice. Thank you!!

Solution: This is indeed quite strange. If the photos and videos are in one folder then both of them should be visible. Try to verify first the location of your video file by looking at its details using your phone. Go to the gallery app then click on a video. Don’t play the video but instead click on the three dots located on the upper right side of the display. Click on details then take note of the path. If it is not located at Phone\DCIM\Camera then this may be the reason why you can’t view it on your laptop.

If the videos are stored in the same folder as your photos then you should try using another laptop and see if the videos can be viewed. If not then you should consider using Kies to view and backup your phone videos.

Note 2 Slow Response

Problem: Hey guys my samsung galaxy note 2  it’s been getting slower and slower when I try to open  any apps  it’s takes its takes more than normal it has had take 4/5 seconds to open its just getting aggravated hope you guys can help thanks.

Solution: The first thing you should check is if your phone has lots of apps running in the background. Try starting your phone in Safe Mode first and see if the issue still persists.

If opening apps does not take long in this mode then you should consider uninstalling certain apps that you don’t regularly use as this may be running in the background and using up memory.

If your phone still operates sluggishly in Safe Mode then this may be caused by too much temporary data. You should wipe the cache partition of your phone to resolve this issue.

Problem: My mum has a SAMSUNG Note 2, she dropped it. A 3 ft fall. The screen turned black. She can get calls, texts and notifications but the screen stays blank. Is there any solution to this or is it gone for good? Please help me.

Solution: It appears that the display may have been damaged by the drop. You will need to have this checked at an authorized service center and possibly have it replaced.

  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.

Note 2 Insufficient Storage Space On Device

Problem: Hoping you might be able to solve an issue I’m having with my Samsung Note 2. I have recently done a factory re-set and since then I’m unable to download any apps. I get a message saying ‘insufficient space on device. In settings – storage it says 12GB internal storage and 2.05gb phone storage. Prior to doing a factory re-set I kept getting all sorts of error messages saying different apps had stopped working. However everything works fine now except I’m unable to download ANY apps. Hope you can help !! Regards.

Solution: If after performing a factory reset you get the insufficient space on device error message then try changing the preferred install location of your phone to let system decide. Go to Settings, Storage, Preferred Install Location, then choose let system decide.

You should also try dialing *#9900# on your keypad and click on the second option that says “Delete dumpstate/logcat”. Press the Home key afterwards.

Note 2 Overheating Issue

Problem: Hey Good Day, I bought a Samsung note 2 from a pawn shop. I know it’s not the best of choice but it was really cheap and the guy said buy it as is. I was in a hurry so I bought it wit little to no hesitation. When I took it home and started using it, less than five minutes and it says that my phone is overheating and it will shut down. So I turned it off and put it a side and didn’t pay much attention to it. a few weeks later i picked it up back and it had the same problem, By this time i was already in another country. So i bought another battery , thinking that it would solve the problem but i was wrong. Now that the battery is dead, it wont charge because it says that the battery is overheating. It’s a cool phone but That’s the only thing that is bothering me and I’ve factory reset it many times. Any solution for my dreadful problem? Please and Thank you.

Solution: In most cases when a phone overheats the most likely culprit is a faulty battery or some app that has become corrupt. However, since you already tried a new battery and even did a factory reset to no avail then the cause of this problem may already be hardware related.

I’m guessing that there may be some component inside the phone that has shorted causing it to heat up. You will have to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked if you want to get it fixed.

Note 2 Can’t Make Outgoing Calls

Problem: My outgoing calls on Samsung Galaxy note 2 have stopped randomly what is the problem?

Solution: Try to restart your phone first and see if this resolved the issue. Restarting will allow your phone to re-establish it connection with the network.

If the issue still persists then try taking out your SIM and insert it in another phone then place a call. If you still can’t make any outgoing calls then the problem is most likely network or account related. You will have to contact your carrier regarding this matter.

If you can make a call when your SIM is inserted in another phone then the problem is with your phone. Try starting your phone in Safe Mode to check if whether a third party app is blocking your ability to make calls.

If the issue disappears in Safe Mode then you will have to find out what app is causing this and uninstall it.

You should also check if call barring is activated on your phone. If it is then you may not be able to make any outgoing calls. Go to your phone dialer then check on its settings.

Finally, if the issue still persists then you should consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to back up your phone data before performing this procedure.

Note 2 Does Not Turn On Unless Connected to Charger

Problem: Hello i have a galaxy note 2 in T-Mobile. My phone has recently started saying i have no service freezes and turns off. It wont turn on until i connect it to my charger and then it says it doesnt have battery but before that it had 70% and it goes to 0%-1% is it my battery? I also have the wrong size of sim card. Its too small. Can it be the sim card?

Solution: Regarding your phone not turning on when not connected to a charger you should first try replacing your phone battery. It may already be faulty and is causing this issue.

For the no service issue of your phone I’m pretty sure this is caused by a wrong size SIM card that you are using. The Note 2 uses a micro SIM so I’m guessing that you are using a nano SIM. Try using a micro SIM and check if your phone can get a signal.

Note 2 Can’t Send Email

Solution: The first thing you need to check is your email account settings. See if everything is correct. If it is then you will need to clear the cache of the email app that you are using as it may have some corrupt data that I causing this problem.

  • From the home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • On the More tab, tap Application manager.
  • Tap the All tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the Email application.
  • Tap Clear cache.
  • The application cache is now cleared.

If the issue still persists then delete you email account then re-create it. Make sure to save any important email messages that you have and take note of your email settings.

Note 2 Mobile Data Activates On Its Own

Problem: Hi there, I have a Samsung Note 2 and ever since my phone came back from the insurance for a screen repair, I am having problems with my data. I will deactivate the data and then 2 min later my data will go on by itself. I have wi-fi at home so it is not necessary for my data to be activated, but it just goes on by itself and honestly it is very annoying. What can I do to sort this matter out?? Thank You.

Solution:  The first thing that you should consider is if a certain third part app is causing this behavior. Start your phone in Safe Mode and see if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then find out what app is causing this and uninstall it.

If the issue persists then do a factory reset. Make sure to back up your data prior to this. If you are still having a problem then this may already be hardware related. You will have to bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 2 Writing On SD Card

Problem: Hello droid guy. Since kikat I cannot move items from phone to sd card.   apps have no authority to write. My phone is filling up – what good is the SD card?

Solution: The KitKat update had brought several security enhancement to your phone which protects your personal information. While this is good, the drawback is that you won’t be able to install apps on your phone SD card. There is however a way to bypass this security restriction and if you are interested to know about this just search for the procedure which is available on most of the popular Android forums online. You can still use your SD card to store your photos, videos, and other documents though.

Note 2 Text Input Issue

Problem: When  sending  email  and text messages my note 2 has strayed double   spacing  between  words and putting  a space between  the  last word in a sentence   and the period  or question  mark . What would cause this and how can I   fix it?

Solution: You can change the way your text input works by changing its settings.  From your home screen tap on the apps icon then click on settings. Click on Language and Input then click on the gear icon of the default keyboard that you are using (this will be the Samsung Keyboard). Uncheck auto spacing.
