Amazon Intros AutoRip Service

Amazon has just announced a new service that music fans will definitely love. The service, which is called AutoRip, allows you to create MP3 versions of the music CDs you have purchased from the site. Any music CD purchased within the last 15 years, which by the way coincides with the launch of Amazon’s Music Store, is eligible to avail of this new service which is offered for free.

If you have been buying CDs from Amazon since 1998 you will notice when you open your Amazon Cloud Player that your collection will be updated with your past music purchases. The best part of this is that any music that that is converted using AutoRip does not count against your Cloud Player storage limits. This means you will be able to enjoy your collection of music from any compatible device without fear of going over your storage quota.

The bad news as of now though is that not all music is covered. There may be albums or particular songs in an album that are not included due to record label restrictions. The company is in negotiation right now with three major recording labels as well as a few indie labels to get licensing agreements for the songs. We’re optimistic that they will be able to reach an agreement.

Here are some of the features of AutoRip.

  • Free digital copies: Amazon customers who purchase AutoRip CDs get free MP3 versions of the albums delivered directly to their Cloud Player libraries – automatically, immediately, and at no cost – no more hassling with ripping CDs and finding a way to get them onto your favorite devices.
  • For CD purchases dating back to 1998: MP3 versions of AutoRip CDs that customers have purchased since the launch of Amazon’s music store in 1998 will also be delivered to their Cloud Player libraries for free.
  • Enjoy everywhere: Music can be played instantly from any Kindle Fire, Android phone or tablet, iPhone, iPod touch, Samsung TVs, Roku, Sonos, and any web browser, giving customers the freedom to enjoy music from more devices than any other major cloud locker music service.
  • Free storage and backup: All AutoRip MP3s are stored for free in customers’ Cloud Player libraries and do not count against Cloud Player storage limits. Customers can buy music and know that it is safely stored in Cloud Player and accessible from any compatible device.
  • High-quality audio: AutoRip music is provided in high-quality 256 Kbps MP3 audio.
