How to fix Google Play Store error 406 on Samsung Galaxy A3 2019

The Google Play Store error 406 occurs when you’re downloading or installing an application. It may happen to all Android users regardless of the brand and model of the phone since it’s not an app- or phone-specific problem but an issue with Play Store that’s triggered when an app is being installed.

We have been contacted by some of our readers regarding this problem. Many of them owned the Samsung Galaxy A3 2018 so we will have to tackle this error with the phone being the subject or our troubleshooting. In this post, I will walk you through in troubleshooting your phone so that you can install applications again without being greeted by this problem so continue reading as this article may be able to help you one way or another.

How to fix Google Play Store error 406?

Don’t worry, this kind of error isn’t really that serious. In fact, it could be due to a glitch in the system or Play Store and there’s always something you can do about it. Here are the things you should do when this error shows up…

Force restart your Galaxy A3 2018. If it’s the first time that this problem occurred, then it might be just as minor as a glitch and while glitches can be fixed by a normal reboot, it’s better to perform a more effective procedure–forced restart.

It is a simulated battery removal which refreshes your device’s memory as well as reloads its apps and services. To do this, press and hold the volume down and power keys simultaneously for 10 seconds or more. Once the phone becomes active, open Play Store and try downloading the app again and see if it works this time. If still not and you’re still seeing the same error, then move on to the next procedure.

Clear Play Store cache and data. This will reset the Google Play Store and replace its cache and data files. If it’s a minor glitch with the app store, then this procedure will make it work perfectly again. It’s imperative that you try this first before moving on to other methods as it’s effective and you won’t lose anything by doing it.

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the 3 dots icon > Show system apps to display preinstalled apps.
  4. Find and tap Google Play Store.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap Clear data and then tap OK.
  7. Tap Clear cache.

Download the app using a web browser. In order for your phone to download apps from the Play Store, it must conform with Google’s security check and other processes that happen in the background. Issues may occur while those things are being done. However, if you try downloading an app using the web browser on your computer, all you need to do is log in to your Google account and go the Play Store and then select the app you want to download. Apparently, this is a workaround in case you don’t want to deal with the problem for now. If that’s the case, you can do this and continue using your phone.

  1. On your computer (non-mobile) web browser, navigate to https://play.google.com
  2. Sign in to the same Google account that you used on the phone/tablet via the Sign In button.
  3. Search or browse the app and select Install.
  4. Select the problematic device in the Choose a device dropdown and select Install.
  5. Check if the app is successfully downloaded/installed on the device.

Reset network settings of your phone. Another cause of this problem is when the internet connection is interrupted while the app is being downloaded or installed. When it happens, the package may become corrupt or lacking in files so the installation won’t be completed. Regardless whether you’re connected to the internet via mobile data or wifi, resetting network settings will fix any network-related issues. Here’s how it’s done on your Galaxy A3 2018:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset network settings.
  3. Tap Reset settings.
  4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  5. Tap Reset settings. Once complete a confirmation window will appear.

After this, try to download the same app and see if it works this time. If the error still appears, then you have no other choice but to reset your phone.

Perform the Master Reset. After doing the aforementioned procedures and your phone is still getting the Google Play Store error 406 while downloading or installing an app, then there’s no other choice but to reset your device. The reset will fix any software-related issues including this one. However, you must backup your files and data before the procedure because they will be deleted and you may not be able to retrieve them after that. Once everything is ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 shows “Package File is Invalid” when installing or updating apps

The error message “Package File is Invalid” may occur when there’s a problem while you’re downloading or updating an app. It may occur even to high-end smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 because it’s a problem with the Play Store or your network. But don’t worry because it’s not really a serious issue. In fact, we’ve already encountered similar cases in the past that we’ve successfully solved.

In this post, I will share with you the most practical solutions or procedures we used in fixing this problem before. There are times when it happens but then disappear immediately and there are also times when it stays until you do something about it. If you’re one of the users with a phone that’s plagued with this issue, then continue reading as this article may help you somehow.

How to troubleshoot Note 9 with “Package file is invalid” error?

This error will occur only if you encounter problems while downloading and/or installing applications from the Play Store. When this happens to you, here’s what you need to do…

Restart your Galaxy Note 9. First of all, you must reboot your phone especially if it’s the first time the problem occurred as it might just a result of minor issue. Better yet, try doing the Forced Reboot procedure by pressing and hold the volume down and power keys at the same time for 10 seconds or more. This will refresh your phone’s memory as well as it’s services and core functions. After that, try downloading or updating the app you were having issues with and if the problem still occurs, then move on to the next solution.

Turn Wifi off and back on. The error might also be due to an interrupted internet connection. When your phone is in the middle of downloading or installing the app and the connection got cut off, this error may also occur. So, the next thing you must do is restart your Wifi or mobile data depending on which one you’re using. Before downloading or updating the app again, make sure your phone has a stable internet connection. If the error still shows up even after this, then the next solution might help.

Clear cache and data of the Play Store. By doing so, you will reset Google Play Store and bring it back to its default settings and configuration. Again, it’s possible that the problem is with the Play Store that’s why it’s necessary to perform this procedure. Don’t worry, none of your apps or files will be deleted if you did this. You just have to go to Settings and then look for Applications. Find and tap Google Play Store and from there you can clear its cache and data. If the problem continues after this, then continue to the next solution.

Download or update the app via web browser. This is a workaround and not a real solution. You may successfully download or update the app but there’s no guarantee that the problem won’t come back the next time you download apps using your phone. Still, if you don’t want to deal with such problem right now, then you must try this.

  1. On your computer (non-mobile) web browser, navigate to https://play.google.com
  2. Sign in to the same Google account that you used on the phone/tablet via the Sign In button.
  3. Search or browse the app and select Install.
  4. Select the problematic device in the Choose a device dropdown and select Install.
  5. Check if the app is successfully downloaded/installed on the device.

Uninstall / reinstall the app. If you’re simply trying to update an app and then this problem occurred, then try uninstalling it so all its associations will be removed. After which, download it from the Play Store. File corruption may also be the cause of this problem. However, if you were trying to install an app and the process got stopped during the download, then you have no other choice but to reset your phone.

Backup files and perform the Master Reset. As long as your phone is still running on a stock firmware that hasn’t been modified in any way, then this problem can still be fixed by a master reset. Just be sure to make a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted during the process. After the backup and once everything is set, follow these steps to perform the Master Reset:
