Motorola RAZR/RAZR MAXX ICS Update Now Available for Testers

The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update has been made available for Motorola DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX Feedback Network testers through build 6.16.211. This could only mean that the rest of those handset’s users will likewise be receiving the update soon. Motorola had earlier promised that they will be rolling out the update OTA around June 30th, which seems pretty feasible considering that testers have already gotten it.

Last week, the same phone caused some confusion as some users of the device on Verizon received a text message that confirmed the forthcoming arrival of the update, along with an alleged deletion of the Verizon Wireless Mobile IM app which is purportedly unsupported by Android 4.0. Verizon’s Support Twitter account, however, had been quick to say that the text messages did not come from them, and were simply spam messages. Yet, in another twist of events, it clarified that the message was not spam and was an announcement that the Verizon Wireless Mobile IM app was indeed not supported.

The Verizon confusion aside, it is unknown how much time it will take for the carrier to roll out the update after Motorola has finally released it. At present, many Android users are getting impatient with waiting for the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update to be available.

The OS had been released last year, and still, not everyone has gotten the new cutting-edge features that Android 4.0 is said to offer. Apart from fixing bugs and enhancing performance, Android 4.0 includes new features like face unlocking, the ability to dismiss notifications with a finger slide, the addition of Google+, fresh camera features, as well as a shiny new graphical user interface.

Meanwhile, the next iteration of the open-source OS called Android 5.0 Jelly Bean is already being readied. Hopefully, Android users will get Ice Cream Sandwich before Android 4.0 is released. At least for the Motorola DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX, there seems to be hope for this.
