Android Auto will launch on a handful of 2016 GMC and Buick vehicles

We’ve already seen manufacturers like Chevrolet, Hyundai etc expressing interest in bringing Android Auto to their vehicles. We can now add two more car manufacturers to that list with GMC and Buick mentioning that some of their 2016 models will have Android Auto as well.

The GMC Sierra, Canyon, and Yukon series will be seeing support, while Buick’s range of LaCrosse and Regal cars will see Android Auto starting next year. Android Auto on these devices will be integrated with the company’s proprietary IntelliLink in-car system, so customers won’t see anything radically different with their console at first glance.

Perhaps the only hindrance to having Android Auto right now is that it requires a wire to function and is only compatible with Android 5.0+ devices, but since most of these vehicles won’t launch until next year, the latter is not much of a concern. We hope that Google soon manages to figure out a way where it can function and pair with the car via Bluetooth.
