Still, the most common issues are fast battery drain, constant dropping of WiFi, Google Now problem if Home button is hit. These problems have been addressed in this post, so if you previously contacted us about one of them, try to read through to find out the solution.

Galaxy S5 Battery Drains Faster After Lollipop Update

Problem: I am having some seemingly common issues with my s5 since updating to Lollipop. My battery drains really quick…ie: from 100% to 93% in 10 minutes and all I’m doing is scrolling through my browsers for info on this. Also, no WiFi issues yet (knock on wood) but my data has been switching from 3g to 4G and back then 1x? A major issue is Facebook and Messenger for Facebook crash unexpectedly and Google Chrome stopped responding. I have cleared all cache, removed extra photos for room, power cycled the phone. I am skeptical of a factory reset but will if need be? Any ideas would be great as well. Thank you. — Erika

Troubleshooting: Hi Erika! We really couldn’t know for sure what’s causing the fast battery drain but we can observe. To do that, try to boot your phone in safe mode first:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key.
  3. When ‘Samsung Galaxy S5’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

With the phone in safe mode, try to observe how fast it drains its battery. If the pace is almost the same as when it’s in normal mode, the problem might be caused by the frequent switch in signal reception. The thing about this is that it’s difficult to know if it’s a network problem or an issue with your phone. Calling tech support may give you a little insight as to what’s happening but don’t expect your provider to admit its network has issues.

Secondly, while the phone is in safe mode, observe Google Chrome, Facebook and its Messenger if they still crash. If they do, the firmware may be at fault here and perhaps it’s also the reason why the device constantly switches between 3G and 4G. Factory reset is the most viable troubleshooting procedure to do, however, if it, too, couldn’t fix these problems, firmware re-flash may be necessary but your provider’s techs should be the one to do it, or Samsung’, so as to avoid having the warranty voided.

Galaxy S5 Having Trouble Receiving Text From One Contact

Problem: I am having trouble receiving texts from one contact. I checked my blocking app, and setting and its turned off. I have also taken out my battery. Still not working. Any ideas? Thanks. — Kristen

Troubleshooting: Honestly, I don’t know your phones setup but I take your word for it that the number wasn’t included in your blocking list. We can go through all hassles of troubleshooting this issue but it’s not worth it. The most viable procedure I want you to do right now is to recreate that specific contact.

Write down all information you have about the contact and then delete it from the phone and from the account it’s synced with. Then, simply add a new account and enter all previous information. This may just fix the problem.

Galaxy S5 Can’t Stay Online Long Enough To Download An App

Problem: Hi, after sucking up all our data in a couple weeks, I turned off just about every single background running app I could see that was shown under “data usage.” Data was once again under control. But… I do need/want to go online once in a while, and I wanted to download Instagram (not sure if it is worth it), and I cannot stay online for more than a few seconds before it goes back to my homescreen. I did find a site to download Instagram without using googleplay or itunes, but I can’t stay on the site long enough to download it. So, what apps MUST I run, and for what purpose? As far as I can tell, I have not had issues with anything I have wanted to do with the phone… except get and stay online now. Thanks, Dachia.

Troubleshooting: If this problem occurred shortly after you’ve disabled apps sucking your data, then there must have been an app that messed things up for you and honestly, I don’t have any idea what it is. The most logical thing to do for now, if it were the case, is to enable those apps back.

In case the apps you disabled have nothing to do with it, then it’s a firmware issue. The mobile data cache may have been corrupted or something. To address this problem, you need to just wipe the cache partition so the phone will be forced to create new files for core services.

Wipe Cache Partition

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If the procedure didn’t work, you have no other option but to perform a full hard reset. This will reset everything to their factory defaults. However, you need to backup all your data before you do it because they will all be deleted.

Full Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Galaxy S5 Contacts Lack Mailing Information

Problem: I transferred my contacts from my old phone to a Galaxy S5. Phone numbers transferred but none of the mailing addresses moved over into my new contacts.

More so, there doesn’t appear to be a section for mailing addresses in any of my transferred contacts.

I can do it for new contacts but I can’t find the old information nor can I edit existing contacts. Where did the information go? Can you help? Thanks, PFJO.

Troubleshooting: I really don’t know what kind of phone your “old phone” was but it seems like there’s a little problem with the formatting of the contact information. It means that the old phone may be following a different kind of formatting which your new phone can’t decode that is why there are some information lacking.

I suggest you try to export the contacts using standard format like .vcf and import the file into your Galaxy S5. Or, you can just sync your old phone to the Google account you’re using with your S5 if possible.

Galaxy S5 Can’t Delete Photos From Gallery

Problem: When I pull up a photo, there is no delete (trash-can) icon. When I go to the … option to delete, it says the items I check will be deleted but they remain in the gallery. How can I delete them? Please help me. — Dave

Troubleshooting: Only photos saved somewhere else couldn’t be deleted especially if accounts remained synced with the phone. For example, Facebook photos that appear in the Gallery may not be deleted locally simply because they were saved in the cloud. If you don’t want these photos to appear in the gallery, you can un-sync your account and clear the cache and data or delete them through your Facebook account. That is the reason why the dust bin won’t appear.

If it happened, however, that the picture was saved locally yet the dust bin won’t appear even if it was properly selected and ready to be deleted, then don’t rely on the Gallery app. Instead, go to the directory or folder where the picture was saved and delete it from there. Remember that the Gallery app is a multimedia manager only, it will display all pictures it can successfully detect either locally or those that are saved in the cloud.

Chrome No Longer Allows Saving Of Images

Problem: Hi I’m using a Samsung Galaxy S5. All was fine but now For some reason, I suddenly can’t save images from my Chrome browser anymore. It was working just fine one minute and not the next. Here is what happens:

1) Browse website with downloadable images (i.e., Fail Blog). – under normal circumstances, if I want to save an image, I just choose “Save Image” from the pop-up menu that displays when I press and hold on a picture. It should normally automatically start the download and save it with no further action.

2) Now what is happening, is that when I bring up the menu for an image in the browser and click on “Save Image”, it a new pop-up menu called “Choose an action” is displayed. This menu lists the following selectable actions:

  • Android System
  • Camcorder
  • Sound Recorder

3) None of the actions allows me to download/save the image and I shouldn’t be prompted with this menu in the first place.

4) I’ve rebooted my phone, but unfortunately, that did not solve the issue. I haven’t installed any new application during that time or changed any phone settings. As I described earlier, it was working fine an hour before and now this.

Troubleshooting: Hi Andrea, if it happened out of the blue without apparent reason, then it probably just a glitch. But since rebooting didn’t solve the problem, then try a different remember–reset the app to its default settings. You can do so by clearing both its cache and data.

  • From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  • Tap Settings.
  1. Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.
  2. Swipe right to the DOWNLOADED screen.
  3. Scroll to and tap Chrome.
  4. Tap Clear cache button.
  5. Tap Clear data button, then OK.

For minor glitches, this procedure may fix it. If, however, the issue persisted after clearing both the cache and the data, then it’s time you uninstalled the app (yes, Chrome can be uninstalled because it’s considered third-party) and download a fresh copy from the Play Store.

Galaxy S5 Can’t Receive Emails When Connected To WiFi

Problem: Hi, could you please help? Last night I updated my Samsung S5 and now my emails don’t receive if I’m in a wifi area, as soon as I go out of one they all come in. Thanks. — David

Troubleshooting: David, it means that your phone cannot get good internet connection if connected to a WiFi network. So, the first thing you should do is troubleshoot your WiFi network if possible. If not, try connecting to other networks to see if your phone can still have a decent connection using WiFi. It’s obvious, though, that your phone can connect successfully to mobile data networks. That’s the reason why emails come in whenever you’re outside WiFi hotspot.

You may also delete all detected WiFi networks and let the phone scan for them, then reconnect.

Download Galaxy S5 Back To KitKat

Question: Good morning Gentlemen, I have just recently upgraded my T-mobile S5 to Lollipop and I am having all sort of issues from the wallpaper suddenly disappearing, the battery not lasting as long as it used to, my MMS messages not downloading and the phone simply crashing. I was unable to find all the different part of you wrote talking about all the problems and glitches from Lollipop. At this point I am thinking of downgrading back to Kitkat. Is that even possible?

Answer: Mr. Dovelle, it’s possible that you roll back to the previous version of Android, however, the process would have to be manual. Meaning, you will download the previous firmware and install it to your phone using a flashing tool and in so doing, you will void the warranty during the process. Since you are having multiple problems with your phone after the update, I would simply suggest you backup your data and perform full hard reset instead of rolling back to KitKat; it’s easier and safer.

Full Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Multiple Service Issues With Galaxy S5 After Lollipop

Problems: Hello, I just recently updated my galaxy S5 to the lollipop 5.0 and have found some really frustrating bugs that need to be fixed please. First when I try to update the weather on my phone through the weather widget, it keeps saying service not available right now even though my GPS is on and I have 4 bars of service. Second, when I turn music say through Pandora Internet Radio the phone will randomly stop in the middle of a song and I have to skip it and this happens about 4 or 5 times in a row. Lastly, I don’t know what could be the source of this but my phone loses so much power between the time I wale up and fall asleep, I literally have no apps or other things running during the day because im in school. I honestly don’t understand how that could happen. I just woke up 15 minutes ago and my phone was at 100% and now at 93% and I have been on my phone just for this email message. What gives? Please fix these bugs it’s really really annoying when yor supposed smart phone doesn’t work… more like dumb phone at this point. Thank you. — James

Troubleshooting: Apparently the recent update messed up some of the services, so the first thing I want you to try is to wipe the cache partition to rule out the possibility that it’s just a cache-related issue.

Wipe Cache Partition

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

The next thing you need to do is the problems persisted after wiping the cache partition is to uninstall the third-party apps that have issues and download fresh copies from the Play Store but don’t forget to clear both the cache and the data first.

About the battery issue, try to check if the phone keeps switching between WiFi and mobile data networks. If so, try to uncheck the Smart Network Switch option or simply disable mobile data. And if the problem persists, factory reset is the most viable procedure.

Galaxy S5 Contacts Problem After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hello! Thank you for this website. It’s been really useful. I need help. My Samsung S5 firmware was upgraded to Lollipop few days. I’ve resolved other bug issues, but I can’t find a solution to my missing contact list. When I go to Contacts, all names and numbers are still there. However only numbers, no names, appear when:

– there are incoming calls.

– text messages

– call logs

And these are numbers already in my Contact list. Really need your expertise with this very annoying issue. I no longer know who’s calling! Thanks a mill! Warm regards, Diana.

Troubleshooting: Contacts won’t display the basic information even if they’re already saved in the phone if there are duplicates. So, either you delete those duplicates or just merge them

Galaxy S5 Creates Buzzing Sound

Problem: Hey droid guy. The problem with my S5 is that anytime I tap the screen or turn the screen on/off, I get static sounds buzzing throughout the phone. The only time it doesn’t seem to do that is when I’m typing. It’s really weird when I’m out in public using my phone and static is just buzzing really loud. Can you help me with my problem? — Miles

Troubleshooting: Try to check the Liquid Damage Indicator (LDI) to see if the phone suffered from liquid damage. If so, then that’s the reason why it’s making the buzzing sound. General cleanup is necessary to get this problem fixed. However, if the phone hasn’t been damaged by liquid, the speaker might be to blame. Since it’s a hardware issue, I suggest you have a tech take a look at it.

Home Button Pulls Up Google Now After Lollipop

Problem: Hello, ever since I updated my S5 to Lollipop when I touch the home button it takes me to the Google Now Screen. The only way I can get off this screen is by touching the multi app button and closing out all of the apps. Is there anyway you can help me with this issue? Thanks in advance. — Diamond

Troubleshooting: Soft reset is necessary to fix this issue. Just remove it’s battery and press and hold the power key for a minute. Place the battery back in and Google Now issue should be fixed after this.

Freezes But Responds When Power Key Is Pressed

Problem: Hello! Please help me with my problem. Last night, I was downloading like 5 or 6 games in my Samsung Galaxy S5 then I closed it for a while but I didn’t turn the whole device off. After that, my phone wouldn’t respond. But it vibrates and the light turns on when I press the home key, power key and the volume keys. I thought it was low battery so I charged it. But it still doesn’t turn on and respond. Next morning, it still wouldn’t turn on but it was fully charged, I was thinking that it might turn on but it didn’t. What do you think is wrong with my cellphone? How can I fix it? I hope you can help me. Please send me a suggestion on what to do. Thank you! — Jasmine

Troubleshooting: Hi Jasmine. Well, things like that can happen. In fact, I already encountered several cases wherein the phone just shuts itself down without apparent reason. Neither you nor we know what actually happened. So, let’s try to troubleshoot the problem taking the safest route.

The first thing I want you to do is soft reset. Don’t worry, your data will be untouched if you did this as it is a little more than a reboot. Please follow these steps:

  1. While the phone is on, open the back cover and pull the battery out.
  2. Without its battery, press and hold the Power key for a minute.
  3. Now place the battery back in and the back cover.
  4. Turn the phone on.

Based on your description, I am almost certain this will work. If, by any chance, soft reset didn’t fix the problem or if the screen still stays blank when you boot the phone up, it’s time to find out if we can get that screen on by trying to boot it in safe mode and recovery mode.

Safe Mode

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key.
  3. When ‘Samsung Galaxy S5’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

Recovery Mode

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.

If the screen stayed dead when you booted the phone in those modes, then there’s something wrong with the hardware and sad to say we really can’t tell what affected the display. You need to have the phone checked by a technician.

Galaxy S5 After Market Battery Question

Question: Enjoy your wisdom. Concerning my S5: is it safe for me to buy an after market battery (Amazon, Tmart, etc.) with higher amperage than standard battery that came with the phone? I understand higher soever yields longer talk time. Please advise. Thanks. — Arthur

Answer: Yes, of course, Arthur. I think you can use your phone more if you didn’t have to put it on charge after a few hours of use. I, myself, am using after market battery packs for my phones. You wouldn’t have to worry of running out of juice especially if you’re traveling. There are a lot of good after market batteries out there but there are also as many imitations. The quality of these third parties is always a concern so choose wisely.

Galaxy S5 Messages App Sluggish

Problem: Hi, my question is regarding the Messages app. I have an S5 with T Mobile and whenever I use the stock Messages app, it is very sluggish, the keyboard has delayed response and would not keep up with my key strokes.

I have since started using Textra but the problem is it won’t send/receive MMS or group messages unlike Messages.

I’ve already tried whatever I read in discussion forums, from uninstall/reinstall, clear cache, use a third party UI I am currently using Google), and ultimately I’ve had to resrt using a third party messaging app (Textra).

Sometimes I reinstall Messages to see if it has magically been fixed it only obe disappointed by its delayed responsiveness.

Another cpresint (complaint), totally unrelated (maybe) is my keyboard. Whenever I place the cursor in the middle of a text to edit it, when I press backspace, it randomly jumps somewhere else in the text body and deletes that instead. The typos you see here are a demo of what happens. Another random thing is the “cpresint.”. It used to read “complaint” until the cursor randomly jumped in the middle of that word after I backspaced.

Maybe it’s time to go back to an iPhone. Meh. Blah. Thanks and take care. — Vince

Troubleshooting: Had the Galaxy S5 been doing this since day 1? If not, then there could some apps or service that’s causing this. But if so, then you committed a blunder by not returning the phone on the second day.

Assuming the problem started recently or after a few months of use. Then it can be fixed. All you need to do is isolate the problem so that you’ll have an idea what’s causing it. Boot the phone in safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key.
  3. When ‘Samsung Galaxy S5’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

While the phone is in safe mode, try opening the Messages app and type some texts to see if it’s still sluggish. If so, then the problem is with the app or the firmware, otherwise, there’s a third-party app you need to get rid of.

Assuming the problem still persists in safe mode, there’s nothing else you can do but perform full hard reset to give the phone a fresh start. But don’t forget to backup all your data especially ones saved in the phone’s internal memory as they’ll be deleted.

Lastly, going back to using an iPhone is a decision only you can make. No one’s stopping you.

Galaxy S5 Mini Comes Back On Automatically

Problem: Hello. My cellphone randomly shuts off, even when it still has battery. I try to press the power key to turn it back on, it doesn’t come on, unless I take the back cover off and battery out, once I insert the battery back on (without even pressing the polwer key) it comes back on. Had the s3 mini and never had an issue as such with it. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide. — Frantze

Troubleshooting: Hi Frantze! Based on your description, it’s easier to come up with a conclusion that your problem is caused by a stuck Power key. I don’t know how it got stuck, but if you have a case, try to remove that first and then try turning the phone off. If the problem persists or if you don’t have an outer case, try to get the power key from getting stuck. You can do so by repeatedly pressing it. It doesn’t matter how many times you press the button as long as you can fix it. If, however, the problem wasn’t fixed by doing so, it’s time you send your phone in for repair. There’s a possibility it was stuck real good or got totally damaged. It is a hardware issue and we can only do so much for those kinds of problems. Let someone who have the expertise to repair phones fix it for you.

Facebook and Instagram Crash on Galaxy S5

Problem: Hello, i found your website searching for answers for my problem. I have a Samsung S5 and 2 days ago I noticed that when I try to open facebook goes to the blue facebook screen then it turns white and then closes, when I try a couple of times after white it turns black and the phone freezes up and turn off, also instagram I am able to open it scroll down a little and then closes automatically, i was told to uninstall the last update to tmobile my account and i did, also the light app (not the one that comes with the phone) and i did, restarted the phone and is still doing the same, I uninstalled facebook and installed it back in and nothing seems to be of any help. Can you please help me what’s going on with my phone. Thank you, Patty.

Troubleshooting: Hi Patty. If this problem is exclusive to Facebook and Instagram only, then we can’t blame the phone if those apps won’t function properly. But you have to verify that. Try installing new apps and see if they, too, crash. If they do, there’s a possibility it’s happening only to third-party apps. Try opening already installed third-party apps to see if they’ll crash and if so, find out if these apps have been moved to the SD card. If that’s the case, it’s the SD card that’s failing.

If only Facebook and Instagram crash, try booting the phone in safe mode and open them while the phone is in that state. If they work fine, then there’s another app that’s causing it and it’s a third-party. However, if they’ll still crash in safe mode, clear both the cache and the data of both apps, uninstall them and download a fresh copy from the Play Store. If the problem persists after that, then decide whether you’ll reset your phone over these apps. Don’t forget, backup all your data before the reset.

Galaxy S5 Battery Drains Faster After Lollipop Update

Problem: Dear sir, I’ve upgraded my s5 from KitKat to Lollipop and since then my battery life has diminished by almost 300%! I used to be able to squeeze almost two days out of it with normal use, now 8 hours is a challenge.

Another thing, I can’t seem to find a way to set up multiple user profiles on my phone for the life of me. Tried googling it, but to na avail, am I the only one who doesnt have an option for that or?

Troubleshooting: I’ve already encountered a lot of complaints about the Galaxy S5’s battery draining rate after the update but most of them were fixed by factory reset. It seems that Android 5.0 Lollipop corrupts several data or caches during the update process and this often leads to conflicts that will surely affect the battery especially if the CPU will be in hyper-drive most of the time.

I understand you may already have a lot of data in your phone but try to back them up and reset your phone. I suggest you do the full hard reset by booting in recovery mode as it’s much effective than the other method.

The multiple user profiles feature comes with Android 5.0 and not exclusive to Samsung only. So, I’m sure that feature is present in your phone. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon and find for an app that says “User.”

Galaxy S5 Battery and App Problems

Troubleshooting: Hey Harris. I’m sure you were expecting us to fix your problems but there’s not enough details for us to compare your issues with those we’ve already encountered.

About the charging problem, if you have 99% battery juice and you plug it in to charge, of course, it will say it’s full immediately because the charger pushes 2 Amperes of current. But don’t unplug it immediately after it says its full because it will also drop back to 99% depending on the number of apps and services running in the background. I think you should try charging your phone while it’s off.

If the battery becomes hot “sometimes,” it means most of the time it’s not. Sounds normal to me. Battery heats up most of the time depending on the usage and it’s one of the components that also make the phone hot after several minutes of use. But all these are normal.

About those “certain apps” that redirect to app store “sometimes,” well, I think that “sometimes” you hit the ads and you would be brought to Play Store. But my question is what are those apps and how often do they redirect you to the Play Store?

Galaxy S5 Keeps Randomly Restarting

Suggestion: A new phone should not do that so let’s be practical here, Hillary. There’s no point in exhausting all troubleshooting procedures we just to make a new phone work. So, the question is, did the random restarts happened since day 1 or after you installed some apps? If the restarts happened after you installed some apps, then I suggest you perform full hard reset to bring the phone back to its factory settings and then install apps one by one to know which one causes the problem.

Full Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

On the other hand, if the problem has already been with the phone since day 1, return it or have it replaced with a brand new unit. I believe you’re still within replacement period.

Galaxy S5 Can’t Download SMS Messages From iPhones

Question: Hi, I am having a problem getting messages from iPhones. I have a T-mobile Galaxy S5 and whenever I am on a wireless network and receive a SMS from an iPhone I am prompted to download the message. However, the messages never download while I am on a wifi network. I can only download the messages by switching to my mobile data network and then downloading, which is annoying and not always possible at my work where mobile coverage is shady. Answer: It may seem a problem or an annoyance to you but there’s nothing to fix on your end. Apparently, what they’re sending you are MMS messages or SMS messages with attached picture so they were transmitted via mobile data network. I could be wrong on this but I think new Emojis will automatically be converted to MMS. Again, if they had included even a very small picture to their SMS messages, then that explains everything.

Galaxy S5 Uses More RAM

Problem: Well I’m not quite sure if I would call it a glitch or problem, I do notice something weird about my phone. When I look on forums at screenshots of most people’s RAM statuses, they all appear to be at about 1.39 GB used. They tend to have a whole half a gig available, but when I check my RAM status, even with all apps closed, I run at around 1.53 GB used. It’s a bit annoying as it constantly has to close my background apps, and I sometimes even miss notifications from Hangouts because it does not refresh in the background. Any suggestions? — Sam

Troubleshooting: Hey Sam. RAM is there to be used and there are only two general categories of apps that use it–pre-installed and third-party apps. Default apps often don’t cause trouble and Samsung developers have already subjected these to extensive tests. That said, the first thing I want you to do is take note of the amount of RAM the phone currently use. Then, reboot your phone and once it’s ready, check the RAM usage again and compare it with the last. If there isn’t much of a difference, then the phone is already carrying too much burden during boot up.

The second thing I want you to do is boot the phone in safe mode. It is necessary because it is in this procedure that we can see how much RAM pre-installed apps are using. Downloaded apps are temporarily disabled in safe mode so there must be a huge gap.

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key.
  3. When ‘Samsung Galaxy S5’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

Once in safe mode, check RAM status one more time and compare it with the usage when some third-party apps were running. The purpose of this procedure is to know whether it’s third-party apps that’s eating up RAM, pre-installed ones or all of them. Regardless of what you’ve found out, the best remedy is to perform full hard reset. Just don’t forget to backup all your data before doing so.

Troubleshooting: Hi Christina. I take your word for it that the microSD card is not damaged. If the phone can’t read from it, then it must have an incompatible format. Don’t worry, it’s easy to fix. Just follow these steps and you’ll be fine:

  1. Plug your microSD card to a card reader.
  2. Insert your card reader to your laptop and wait until it can detect it.
  3. Right-click on the SD card icon.
  4. Choose Format.
  5. Set File type to FAT32.

Galaxy S5 Heating Up, Lollipop Update Delayed

Problem: Despite being one of the finest phones in the market I am still disappointed with the product as it gets heating up and also I am disappointed with the lollipop update that is being delayed for months.. Suggestion: Hey Johnson. If you think we’re Samsung and you simply want to rant, well, we’re not. About the heating issue, there’s a lot of factors that could contribute to the problem and since you haven’t provided details, we cannot provide troubleshooting procedures.

About the Lollipop update, there’s nothing we can do about that. The roll out depends on Samsung primarily. Once ready, carriers and service providers will handle the rest especially if you are in the U.S. I’m not sure what is there to be embarrassed about having a Galaxy S5 running KitKat.
