Evernote Hacked

Hacking has gone crazy these days. Almost all of the popular services and company website has been tried to be hacked, and the attempts have been successful. There were attacks on Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter, in the tech industry, and popular news sources such as The New York Time, the Wall Street Journal, and others, and even government websites and networks. To add to this list, we have Evernote today.

According to an email which the company has sent to its users, the attackers have been able to get user data. Yes, user information may have been compromised in this case according to the company. Evernote is a popular internet service for saving notes and snippets of information from websites and blogs.

The email which the company has sent to its users reads:

…the individual(s) responsible were able to gain access to Evernote user information, which includes usernames, email addresses associated with Evernote accounts, and encrypted passwords.

That sounds really serious. If you are keeping very important and private data on the company’s servers, it is a good time to take it down. As a matter of fact, it is a brave move to take all your private data from any other cloud service you have down so that nothing personal is compromised.

The company has reset all the passwords which are associated with the company’s services, namely, the Evernote apps, Skitch, Penultimate, and others.

This means that in an abundance of caution, we are requiring all users to reset their Evernote account passwords. Please create a new password by signing into your account on

After signing in, you will be prompted to enter your new password. Once you have reset your password on, you will need to enter this new password in other Evernote apps that you use. We are also releasing updates to several of our apps to make the password change process easier, so please check for updates over the next several hours.

You can expect the company to release a series of updates to its apps in the coming days, and do get the update on your smart phones and tablets, even computers, to keep your data safe. And I guess it is high time that other cloud services secure their networks with the best possible security.
