What Is Kodi?

Kodi is fantastic free and open-source media player software capable of turning any device running Linux, OS X, Windows, iOS, and Android into a multimedia powerhouse. Using Kodi, you can play all commonly used audio and video file formats, including H.264, HEVC, WEBM, MP3, FLAC, OGG, WAV, and countless others. You can also stream content directly from the internet, create stunning TV show collections complete with posters, banners, episode descriptions, or smart tags. If there’s still something the stock version of Kodi can’t do, there’s a good chance that the vast repository of add-ons will contain exactly what you’re looking for.

NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro and Kodi are a match made in heaven. For starters, The SHIELD offers an unprecedented performance thanks to its Tegra X1 processor. With its 256 GPU cores, multi-core 64-bit CPUs, and unbeatable 4K video capabilities, it’s the most advanced mobile processor ever created, delivering 34x better performance than Apple TV, and 8x better performance than Amazon Fire TV. It’s one only a handful of Android TV boxes that can display 4K H.265 and VP9 video content at 60 frames per second and do it without even breaking a sweat.

Besides its beastly specifications, NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro is also any audiophile’s dream. According to NVIDIA, the TV box lets you pass-through Dolby Digital Plus (5.1 and 7.1) to a receiver, placing you right in the center of the action. Many lesser Android TV boxes use the same audio processing chip as your smartphone does. That might be okay for a pair of headphones, but your living room loudspeakers deserve something better.

Perhaps the best thing about NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro is the pair of included controllers. They both feature Google’s revolutionary voice search technology, and they are both equally amazing. One is meant for gaming, while the other one is compact and optimized for multimedia consumption.

Amazon Fire TV

NVIDIA SHIELD will undeniably appeal to enthusiasts who seek maximum performance with no regard to the cost of the device. But for most people, Amazon Fire TV is a better option. Despite costing much less than the SHIELD, this streaming media player supports 4K, voice control, and our favorite media player software—Kodi.

But even without Kodi installed, the Fire TV can still do a lot. You can watch over 300,000 TV episodes and movies, enjoy more than 7,000 apps, games, and Alexa skills, and listen to millions of songs are available to stream on Amazon Fire TV through Pandora, Amazon Music, and iHeartRadio. All Amazon Prime subscribers get free storage in Amazon Drive, where they can store their entire photo collections and easily share them on the big screen.

Installing Kodi onto an Amazon Fire TV is slightly more involved than just opening the Play Store and clicking on the Install button, but it isn’t exactly a rocket science either. Even though Amazon encourages users to stick with apps downloaded from their own store, all Fire TV products allow sideloading. For detailed, easy-to-follow instructions on how to install Kodi onto an Amazon Fire TV, head over to Kodi’s official wiki.

Xiaomi Mi Box

From air conditioners to smartwatches, smartphones, laptops, tablets, power banks, cameras, to Android TV boxes—Xiaomi has something for everyone, and all their products are ingenious in design and remarkable in value.

The Mi Box is a recipient of both Red Dot and Good Design awards, and it even beats the Fire TV with its incredible price of just around $70. But make no mistake—this Android TV box you might want from it and more. It supports 4K and HDR video playback, comes with a compact Bluetooth voice remote, support for Google Cast, and compatibility with other Xiaomi products, including their Bluetooth gamepad.

Inside the sleek body of this TV box is a quad-core processor with 2 GB of DDR3 memory, 8 GB of flash storage, an audio chip with support for Dolby Digital Plus and DTS multichannel HD audio encoding, and fast Wi-Fi module. Because Xiaomi Mi Box comes with Android 6.0, you can simply download the official Kodi app from the Play Store and use it within minutes of turning the box on.

The NEO U1 Android TV box from MINIX comes with Kodi pre-installed, making it perfect for those who want something they can just plug in and use right out of the box. Its main feature is an external, upgradable Wi-Fi antenna, which provides an excellent signal reception even if your home router happens to be on the other side of your house.

Other pros of this affordable media player include its support of the 10-bit color format, 4K video playback at 60 frames per second, significantly increased dynamic range, and impeccable performance. MINIX may not be a big brand name like NVIDIA, Amazon, and Xiaomi, but their products, and especially this TV box, can certainly compete with the big boys.

Matricom G-Box Q²

The G-Box Q2 from Matricom builds upon the success of the Q1 with a faster processor, better GPU, and more memory and storage space. The combination of the S812 CPU paired with the powerful Mali-450 GPU makes it possible to play 4K content at 60 frames per second and play all the latest Android games without lags. Thanks to 16 GB of internal storage space, you’ll be able to download as many games and apps as you want and still have room to spare for other content.

According to the manufacturer, the box was developed with Kodi in mind, featuring tons of tweaks and optimizations to make it run as smoothly as possible. Matricom provides an excellent worry-free warranty which covers your device unconditionally for 1 year from purchase. If something goes wrong, you can just send it back to them directly, and they’ll refund you—no questions asked.

The Amazon Fire TV Now Works With A Playstation 3 Controller

Amazon Fire TV

If you have an Amazon Fire TV and a Playstation 3 (PS3) but don’t want to pay for another controller for the Fire TV, you’re in luck. In a YouTube video from Amazon Fire TV, they have demonstrated a way to connect a Playstation 3 Dualshock 3 controller to the Fire TV. It is not an instant connection though, as you have to install some software first.

On your computer, you need to download the software “SixaxisPairTool”. Once that is installed, connect the Dualshock 3 to your computer over USB while the software is running and let the driver be installed so your computer recognizes the controller. The MAC address of the controller will then be displayed onscreen.

You will then have to also install and run the “Sixaxis Controller” app on your Fire TV, which costs $2.99. After that, run the app and tip the checkbox for “Enable Joystick” under the Joystick menu, which is located inside the settings of the app.

When you do that, you will see the local Bluetooth address of the Fire TV, which will then be entered into the “SixaxisPairTool” app located on your computer. Once you apply the change, turn on your Dualshock 3 controller and you should be connected.

The Amazon Fire TV has already been proven in the past to work with the Xbox 360, Playstation 4, and other controllers, but it’s nice to see more compatibility. Let us know in the comments if this worked for you.

How To Fix Amazon Fire TV Remote Not Working

The Amazon Fire TV is one of the popular streaming media players available in the market which allows consumers to watch various content from several online providers such as Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, HBO, SHOWTIME, STARZ, and more.

Although this is a reliable device  there are instances when its remote might not be working properly. This is what we will be addressing today as we tackle how to fix Amazon Fire TV remote not working issue.

Try replacing the Fire TV Remote batteries

The first thing that you need to do whenever the remote fails to work is to assume that the battery is already drained. This is especially true if you are constantly using the remote since this will use up a lot of battery life. The first thing you should do then is to replace the batteries.

  • Use your thumbs to apply pressure on the back of the remote. Press down until the entire back cover slides down slightly.
  • Lift the back cover up and away from the remote.
  • Insert the two AAA batteries.
  • Reposition the back cover onto the remote, and slide down to snap it into place.

Pair the Fire TV Remote

Sometimes the problem can be caused by the remote not paired to the Fire TV. To make sure that it is paired properly follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Press and hold the Home button on the remote for 10 seconds. The remote should pair with the Fire TV within a minute.
  • If  it does not pair then unplug the power adapter from the Fire TV device or from the wall outlet.
  • While the Fire TV device is off, reset the Fire TV remote by pressing the Menu button, Back button, and the left side of the navigation ring at the same time. Hold all of these buttons for 10 seconds. This will not factory reset the Fire TV device. It removes Fire TV settings from the remote.
  • Remove the batteries from the Fire TV remote and plug in the Fire TV device. Wait for the Home screen to appear.
  • Put the batteries back in the Fire TV remote and wait for one minute.
  • If the remote still hasn’t paired, press and hold the Home button on the remote for 10 seconds.

Check the Fire TV remote compatibility

You won’t have to perform this if the remote you are using came out of the box. If however you replaced the remote with a new one or a third party remote then try checking if it works with your particular Fire TV model.

Try using the Fire TV remote app

If you have an Android or iOS device then you can go to their respective app stores and download the Fire TV app. You can then use your smartphone or tablet as a remote control as long as it is connected to the same network as your Fire TV.

Replace the Fire TV Remote

This is the last thing you will have to do in case the above steps fails to fix the problem yet you are able to use the Fire TV remote app. This means that the current remote you are using is damaged and should be replaced with a new one.

Acer Chromebook R 13 Convertible ($349.99, SAVE $50)

The Acer Chromebook R 13 is arguably the hottest Chromebook of this year. It almost seems like Acer has taken a hint from Asus and its ZenBook line of premium, aluminum laptops that put heavy emphasis on good looks. This 13-incher is light, slim, sleek, and convertible: everything a casual user or a busy student might want from a laptop.

Actually, the Chromebook R 13 goes beyond everything. Its Full HD display uses IPS technology for wide viewing angles and accurate color representation. If your eyesight is exceptionally great, you could use the native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, or you can increase the scaling to make everything larger and more legible.

The screen sits on a hinge that supports 360-degree rotation, allowing you to choose from 4 different modes: notebook, display, tent, and tablet. This way, you can write an essay or create a PowerPoint presentation just like you would on a laptop with a traditional hinge, then switch to the tent mode to show it off to your classmates or colleagues, and, finally, turn the laptop into a tablet to watch your favorite YouTube show as a reward.

Until recently, Chromebooks were confined mostly to Chrome, the popular web browser, but that’s no longer the case. Google has been rolling out updates for popular Chromebooks, including the Acer Chromebook R 13. “I received the Chromebook on the 5th. I have had 2 updates since that time, and have been able to install and use Google Play Store in Stable mode,” said K. Jennings on November 13, 2016, in an Amazon review. In other words, after you turn on your new R 13 and install all updates, you will be able to access all Play Store apps just like you can on your Android smartphone or tablet.

Asus ZenFone Zoom Unlocked Phone, 64GB (U.S. Warranty) ($199, SAVE $200)

Asus makes attractive smartphones with premium specifications that rarely ever fail to receive raving reviews from tech reviewers. Unfortunately, as all high-end products do, they often cost more than you might be willing to pay. Well, that won’t be true at all on Cyber Monday. Amazon has cut $200 from the original price of the 64 GB version Asus ZenFone Zoom smartphone, making it one of the best current smartphone deals.

Things look fairly regular on the front side: a sharp 5.5-inch IPS full HD display protected by the Gorilla Glass 4 technology, 5 MP camera, and very narrow bezels that give the device a decisively premium look. But look at the back and you’ll discover the world’s thinnest camera with 3X optical zoom and an innovative 10-element lens from HOYA. Indeed, a dream-come-true for all avid mobile photographers.

Internals of the Asus ZenFone Zoom are equally impressive: an Intel 2.3GHz Quad Core processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Zoom’s PowerVR 6430 graphics-processing unit is perfect for playing the latest Android games, and the phone’s large battery helps you stay in the game for several hours. Overall, a great smartphone with virtually no flaws—at a ridiculously attractive price.

Amazon Fire TV ($74.99, SAVE $15)

If you still haven’t turned your HDTV into a smart entertainment hub, now is a great chance for you to do so. Amazon is offering their Fire TV for just $74.99, a small price for a huge bag of fun. The Fire TV is a 4K-ready gateway to over 7,000 apps and games, 300,000 TV episodes, and countless songs from your favorite artists.

The small, black box hides a powerful quad-core processor, dedicated graphics engine, and 2 GB of memory, resulting in over 75% more processing power over the previous generation. With Fire TV’s highly efficient HEVC video encoding, you can enjoy high-definition content without clogging up your internet connection.

Built directly into the Fire TV is Alexa Voice Remote, the brain behind Amazon Echo. You can simply tell her the name of the show you would like to watch, and she will instantly put it on. Want to skip a cringeworthy scene? Just say, “Alexa, fast forward a minute.”

Last but not least, you can cast video from your Android smartphone with the Fire TV, and you can also enhance your Fire TV experience by installing the Fire TV Remote App on your smartphone to use it instead of the regular remote that’s included with the Fire TV.

Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Generation) – Works with Amazon Alexa ($199, SAVE $50)

Learning thermostats from Nest have been a popular way how to enter the world of connected smart-home gadgets. This sleek device quietly monitors your temperature preferences, learning what temperature you prefer at any given time of the day. It can display the current temperature on its bright screen, which automatically lights up as you walk across the room.

Because Nest knows how to make you comfortable in the most energy-efficient manner, it can save you an average of 10-12 percent on heating bills and 15 percent on cooling bills. You can control it remotely via Nest’s Android app. The app lets you adjust the temperature, see your energy usage, view and edit your thermostat schedule, get extreme temperature alerts, and much more. You can also connect it with other Nest smart gadgets, such as Nest Protect or Nest Cam.

SanDisk 128 GB Class 10 micro SD Memory Card ($29.99, SAVE $50)

Amazon has partnered with SanDisk, an American manufacturer of flash memory products, to produce a microSD card that’s guaranteed to be compatible with all Amazon devices, such as the Fire Tablet and Fire TV. Of course, it will also work with just about any other tablets, smartphones, cameras or computers that uses a 128 GB microSD card.

It usually retails for $79.99, but you can get it for just $29.99 on Cyber Monday. As a Class 10 card, its performance is more than sufficient for full HD video playback and recording. 128 GB of storage space lets you store approximately 45,600 photos or 260 SD or 130 HD movies or 32,000 songs, depending on their quality.

[Deal] $25 off on the Amazon Fire TV Gaming Edition

Fire TV

Fire TV

You can now get the #Amazon #FireTV Gaming Edition with a smooth $25 discount, which brings the price down to just $114.99. The pricing seems to be valid until the end of the Holidays, although you might want to reserve your unit right away in order to get it in time.

The Fire TV Gaming Edition comes with the standard Fire TV plus a gaming controller, letting you leverage the vast amount of gaming content on offer from the Amazon Appstore. It’s not as content rich as the Google Play Store obviously, but customers will find plenty of content there that should fit their gaming needs pretty well.

The Fire TV Gaming Edition also comes with a 32GB microSD card plus two games preinstalled, which should make the deal even sweeter. The Fire TV is Amazon’s answer to the Android TV as well as the Apple TV consoles and one would say that Amazon has done fairly well for itself given that the console is running on a parallel ecosystem compared to conventional Android and iOS.
