Problem 1: Steps to fix Galaxy S6 overheating issue
Hello. I just recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S6 from this app, Letgo. i love the phone a lot but i have noticed that it gets hot to the touch where i almost felt as if i could have gotten burned at one point, and my charger gets overly heated also. i don’t want to lose my new phone but i have heard stories that they can explode if too hot. Solution: Hi Marissa. Phones do get warm during specific periods such as when they are used for playing games, GPS navigation, playing videos or music for extended time, or during charging. If your device become uncomfortably hot during normal use, or when it’s charging, that’s not a good sign.
Sometimes, your location while using your phone can cause a device to get too warm too. If you regularly use it in a hot environment like inside a hot car on a sunny day, or in a beach with direct sunlight, heat can build up more quickly.
While we think your phone is definitely overheating abnormally, below are the quick things that you can do to confirm that.
Warm is good
As mentioned above, if your phone has become uncomfortably hot, and not warm, that suggests a problem. Normally, even if your phone is on charge, the most that it should do is to become warm to touch, like when touching your morning toast out of the toaster. If you can hold the device comfortably, that’s normal. Otherwise, overheating must be happening.
In some cases, an overheating Galaxy S6 will display a temperature warning.
Also, overheating is usually accompanied by associated symptoms like freezing, lag, and sudden slow performance.
Reboot may help
For overheating cases that happen spontaneously and without any obvious reason, restarting or rebooting the device may help. Try to restart the phone once every 2 days to refresh the system.
Lower down screen brightness or turn it off completely
Letting the screen remains lit for extended periods can heat up the device although it shouldn’t progress to overheating like what’s happening in your case. Under normal circumstance, heat from the screen can dissipate very quickly once you turn it off. Still we suggest that turn off the screen when you don’t use it. It will not only add to the heat issue, but can also help lengthen the life of your battery.
Check what apps consume most power
Your S6 allows you to check apps that use too much power. In most cases, these same apps contribute to overheating so be sure to go under Settings>Device maintenance>Battery to check. If you noticed an app that used too much power aside from the system apps, be sure to uninstall it.
Close apps running in the background
Normally, your S6 should be fine even with if there are a lot of apps running in the background. But since you’re now experiencing unexplained overheating problems, you want to ensure that all bases are covered, and that includes letting the phone run normally but without any background apps. To do that, simply tap the Recent Apps key, the one on the left of the Home button. Once you’ve launched the Task Manager menu, tap CLOSE ALL button.
Avoid using your device while charging
Topping up the battery generates heat. If you’re using a fast charger, the rate of heat generation can significantly increase. And if you use your device while charging, heat can build up even more quickly. Be sure to let your phone charge before using it to avoid overheating.
Uninstall apps
At times, poorly coded or malicious apps can hog CPU(central processing unit) resources, which can also lead to overheating. If you tend to install apps without checking whether or not they’re built by reputable developers, you’ll most likely end up with a problem like this.
Wipe the phone with factory reset
If all the steps above won’t work, consider doing a factory reset. If the cause of the problem is software-related, factory reset should fix it. Just be sure not to introduce it again after wiping the phone. To factory reset your S6, kindly do these steps:
- Create a backup of your important files such as photos, videos, contacts etc. You can use Smart Switch for this task.
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
- When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
- Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
- Press the Volume Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
- After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
Send the phone in for repair or replacement
An exploding smartphone is way too extreme although it’s not impossible. The explosion will not be as destructive as what some people think. There’s no explosive or right combination of chemicals that can seriously threaten a user in an S6. the worst that can happen may come from the subsequent fire but then again, it’s very highly unlikely.
If all our suggestions above won’t help in fixing your problem though, be sure to return the phone to the store so it can be assessed properly.
Problem 2: Galaxy S6 notifications stopped working after an update
Hi AndriodGuy! Since the unannounced update on 1 July I also have no sounds to messages, apart from the default ‘beep’. I’ve tried the soft boot and all that’s done is to postpone the beep! I did have to clear the cache from Instagram for something else, but a far as I’m aware all else is OK. Is there any way of backtracking to before the update, or am I stuck with everyone/thing having the same sound? I mean, I’ve got ships bells, temple gongs and train whistles all lazing about doing nothin, when this silly little chirp gets all the attention!!
Also, the colour went out of the menu to a very pale blue on white – not very helpful – so I changed my theme (and now it’s green :p). A bloke I work with has the same problem so it isn’t just me. Can anything be done to bring back sounds and colours? Or am I stuck with it? Good ol’ Samsung, love ’em to bits but really… getting more like Apple every day! On your advice I’ve downloaded the Task Killer, although I haven’t a clue how it works – am I meant to do something with it or is it automatic? Never mind that, I’ll figure it out. Solution: Hi Mimi. Since you did not indicate the specific update you installed, we assume that your S6 must be running either Android Marshmallow (Android 6) or Nougat (Android 7). In either case, you can customize your notifications under Settings>Notifications>ADVANCED. For example, if the notifications for a specific app like Instagram has stopped working after an update, you can check if notifications for it is blocked or not by going under Settings>Notifications>ADVANCED. Once you’re in the app notifications menu of the said app, make sure that Allow notifications option is enabled by dragging the slider to the right. Make sure that you do the same steps for all apps you’re having problems with. Once you’ve set the proper notification settings for everything, be sure to restart the phone to allow the changes to take effect.
If the problem remains, we suggest that you wipe the cache partition to ensure that the system cache is refreshed. Sometimes, updates can corrupt the system cache, which in turn, can lead to problems. Wiping the cache partition should fix it. Here’s how:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
- When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
- When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
- Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
- Press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
If wiping the cache partition won’t fix your problem, consider wiping the device with factory reset. Refer to the steps above.
