Sprint Galaxy S4 Mini getting Android 4.4 update

Galaxy S4 Mini

The Sprint version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is now getting the Android 4.4 update. This comes only a day after the Samsung Galaxy S III on AT&T received the update. It seems like Samsung wants to speed up the update process before its new lineup of devices arrive. With the Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3 already out of the way, it’s only the midrange devices which are expected to get the update.

Here’s the complete changelog of the update:

  • New Lock Screen Access
  • Media Controls – full-screen album art and media controls when listening to music
  • Camera Shortcut – access the Camera application right from the lock screen
  • SMS App Chooser – select a default application for sending and receiving SMS text messages
  • Restyled Status and Navigation Bars – status and navigation bars are translucent and can sit on top of apps, along with simplified status bar icons
  • Consolidated Location Settings – location services are integrated and more detailed by new Location menu
  • Expanded Emoji Icons
  • Wireless Printing – supports printing over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • Prevention Information pop-up message is suppressed.

The update notification should hit your Sprint branded Galaxy S4 Mini anytime soon, but if you’re impatient to wait, you can try navigating to the settings and pull the update manually.
