Sony Ericsson Adds 2 More To Xperia Family, Xperia Ray and Xperia Active

Sony Ericsson has added two new Android phones to their high end Xperia line up, the Sony Xperia Ray and the Sony Xperia Active.

Both devices will sport Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” and be available in Q3 2011 in select markets worldwide. There is no official word on when and if the two new Xperia devices will appear in the US.  However, at Mobile World Congress earlier this year Sony Xperia confirmed their commitment to offering more handsets to the United States.

The Sony Xperia Active is a dust proof, water resistant Android device. The Active will feature a 1ghz processor, a 3 inch 320×480 pixel display that even works wet.  It also features preloaded sports and fitness apps and the ability to monitor your heart rate.  The Sony Xperia Active features a 5 megapixel HD video capable camera  as well.

The Sony Xperia Ray is a sleek high end Android device. It seems the Xperia Ray is focused on media with a 3.3″ 854×480 reality display and mobile Bravia engine borrowed from Sony’s line up of LCD televisions.

The Xperia Ray features an 8.1 megapixel camera with 16x digital zoom, face detection, 720hp video recording and other more high end camera features, especially for a phone.

  1. High end? Don’t seem any better than my x10i. Also, the Active looks like an iphone. At least I’m not due an upgrade till March. Hopefully by then there’ll be something with a big leap from the x10, currently the Arc is only slightly better
