Solved Samsung Galaxy S8 Will Only Charge When Off

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S8 is a flagship phone released last year that has undergone a complete design change when compared to its predecessor. This model no longer has a physical home button while its display has become larger. In fact, the device uses a 5.8 inch Super AMOLED display which is made possible since the screen now occupies most of the front part of the device. Although this is a solid performing phone there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S8 will only charge when off issue and other related problems.

S8 Will Only Charge When Off

Problem: I purchased an S8 and it charged fine for about 2 weeks. Now it doesn’t recognize any USB cables, & will only charge when off & in 5 second intervals. When off, it shows that it’s charging but will fade to black every 5 seconds & then it vibrates to show its charging again. The battery & phone get hot. I’ve done a factory reset, cleaned out the port, changed chargers & battery, but no luck.

Solution: Since you have already performed most of the troubleshooting steps that are necessary for this particular problem which doesn’t seem to work then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component already. It’s likely that the charging port of power IC is not working properly. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S8 Battery Drains Quickly Takes Too Long To Charge

Problem: Hi guys. Great site you have here. I have an ongoing issue with my S8.

  1. when i switch it before bed it loses all it’s battery life by the time i’ve woken up,  even if it was charged the night before.
  2. It takes forever to be charged by cable and i only get one flashing green light during charge instead of the original three(when it’s switched off).
  3. You have to fiddle with the cable in the jack to make sure it starts charging. Then of course, you have to be careful to not knock the phone or cable.

Solution: The first thing you will need to do in this particular case is to clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to  remove any dirt or debris stuck in this port as this can cause charging issues. Once the port is clean try charging it using a different charging cord and wall charger.

In case the issue persists then this is most likely a hardware related problem already. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S8 Not Charging Using Wired Or Wireless Charger

Problem: Hi, I have S8  which unable to charge for both ways by plug and wireless. It seems my phone refuse to charge therefore I can’t do the troubleshoot as you’ve mentioned in your article. When I charge with wireless it only appear the “Samsung Galaxy 8″ for a minute and then it shows the android logo for like 30 seconds mention installing updates after that it disappear. Then I tried pressing both power button and lower volume for for than 15 seconds with no luck. Aside from that I did tried to seek help from mobile repairs and they said they need to send it to samsung and it will take 33 days approx. I’m already got frustrated at the moment since all my important notes are there in phone memory. would appreciate your help if you’re keen

Solution: If the phone does not charge using a wired or wireless charger then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component already. If you want to retrieve the data stored in the phone then you will need to have this fixed first at a service center.

S8 Moisture Detected In Charging Port Error

Problem: Had my Samsung s8 in the sea in a waterproof case. Moisture detected after a few mins. Was only submerged in the case once or twice for 10 seconds at a time. Was never soaked or even close. Worked fine all day and googled he moisture detection message to find out not to charge until message goes away. Been around 8 hours now. Battery has died. Have tried cleaning out with tissue And blowing into it etc with no luck. Any advice appreciated! P.s no idea what android version?

Solution: Whenever you get this error message on your phone it means that the sensor is detecting the presence of moisture in the charging port. Make sure that the port is dry by using a mini vacuum or a hair dryer to remove the moisture. Once this is done try charging the phone using a different charging cord and wall charger then restart your phone then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you will need to bring this to a service center and have it checked.

S8 Not Turning On After Drop

Problem: I accidentally dropped my phone while I was opening the door and walking out of my house. It landed on its screen and the top left hand corner of it had some cracks. When I tried to open it by pressing the on button, it wont open, no matter how many times I had pressed it. Please tell me how to solve this. I hope it will not involve me having to go buy a new battery or something.

Solution: It looks like the phone has been damaged by the drop. What you should do right now is to connect the phone to a charger and let it charge for at least 20 minutes before attempting to turn it on again. If the issue persists then you will need to have this checked at a service center.
