S7 Cannot Hear Calls

Problem: Recently had the screen & digitizer changed in my S7. After the screen repair, I am having speaker problems. I can make a call & the person on the other end hears me but i can’t hear them unless I put my phone on speakerphone. Phone repair place says nothing they did could’ve caused this.

Solution: It’s likely that the internal speaker might have been disconnected during the screen replacement or it might have been damaged in the process. Before bringing the phone to a service center and having it checked I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This allows you to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch. In case the issue persists after the reset then definitely bring this to a service center.

S7 Not Reading SIM Card Information

Problem: I have a Samsung S7 unlocked, If I turn it on without a sim card, the phone will say no sim installed. When I  installed a sim card from another phone, the message disappears but the phone does not read any information from the card.  I have no data connection. I have tried a hard reset, factory reset, I have installed the apn settings manually, selected data roaming but still nothing.  When I do a search for network operators there is nothing. Is there anything else I can try.

Solution: Make sure that you are in an area with good network coverage when you check the phone. I suggest that you try to go to a different location then check if the problem still occurs. If it does then try placing a SIM card of the phone’s original network on it. In case the issue persists then this is most likely a hardware related problem already in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S7 Intermittent Call Failure

Problem: Intermittently, but not always, I have to place a call twice for it to go through. The first time it gets stuck on the ‘dialing’ screen. The screen lightens and darkens from bottom to top (like a wave) as it usually does, and the word “dialing” appears in the top right corner. Sometimes the other party reports that it connected and then cut off; sometimes (in home testing) the other number doesn’t ring at all. When I try to place the call seconds later it generally, though not always, goes through. When that has happened, I have called it from the other number, and then have been able to place the call again.

Related Problem: My phone won’t make or receive calls. Other apps work fine. Incoming calls go immediately to voicemail, but don’t show up in my voicemail on the phone. When I open voicemail, it only shows voicemail messages through December. Outgoing calls don’t appear to start, e.g. when I push the green “call” icon, it changes to a screen with the “call” or “hang up” icons tiny across the top. No call is made. I also don’t appear to be receiving texts. Thanks for your help!

Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this case is to check if the problem occurs in a specific location. If it does then the signal might be spotty in that area. Try going to a different location then check if the problem still occurs.

In case the issue is not caused by some network signal problem then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S7 Showing Unknown IMEI

Problem: Hello Droid Guy, My S7 is active on the Tracfone network for a while . I upgraded from my LG to the S7.  After using the S7 on Tracfone for about 3 weeks, I reactivated my old LG phone with a new phone number for my son.  Within 12 hours after activating the LG, the S7 stopped working. I have talked with Tracfone a lot about the issue, but they cannot seem to figure it out.  One key issue is that the cellular signal indicator is missing on the phone now. The day the phone stopped working, the signal indicator would be visible for a few minutes then, not visible, then visible again – almost like it was blinking in and out. Tracfone sent me a new SIM card which is not working. Something happened to my phone when Tracfone re-activated my old LG, but I cannot seem to get anyone at Tracfone to recognize that. The IMEI, software version and all other info about the phone is showing “Unknown”.  I don’t know what version of Android the OS is. Do you have any idea why the signal indicator is missing?

Solution: This appears to be a software related problem already caused by a corrupted EFS file. To fix this try checking if there are any new software updates available for your phone then update it accordingly. I also suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

In case the issue persists then you will have to flash the phone with its updated stock firmware file using Odin. You can get the firmware file as well as the instructions on how to flash your phone from the Sammobile website.
