J7 Turns Off When Not Connected To Charger

Problem: Hi , having dropped my device it will no longer work unless it is plugged In with charger . If I unplug it at 100 % It will turn off after a minute or so and when I plug in again the charge will read 65%. If I try and restart it when not plugged in the Samsung logo appears and after a few seconds it will go to a black screen i.e. switch off. There are no issues at all with the device when it is plugged in and it will read as charging until it gets to 100% again.

Solution: It’s very likely that this problem is caused by a hardware component that got damaged by the drop. This can be the power IC or the battery itself. The best troubleshooting that you can do right now is to check if the issue is caused by some software glitch by doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

In case the issue persists then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

J7 Turns Off If Not In Safe Mode

Problem: Samsung Galaxy J7 with android version 7.0 Phone is charged to 100% (power off) Remove from charger, start to use phone (ex. Open sms app), phone turns off. (Time frame approx 3 second duration) Turn phone back on. Power at 70%. Phone turns off. Start the phone in safe mode (on charger) phone stays on and can be used. Remove from charger and the phone can not be used. Start phone in normal mode on the charger and phone will turn off when put to use. In summary, my galaxy J7 can not be used unless it is on a charger in safe mode. Any other combination will result in the phone turning off within seconds. Anyone have ideas?

Solution: If the problem does not occur when the phone is started in Safe Mode then there’s a possibility that an app you downloaded is causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

It is also best to backup your phone data then do a factory reset to start the phone fresh. With no apps installed in the phone yet try to check if the issue still occurs.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

J7 Not Turning On After Drop

Problem: hi i’ve dropped my J7 on the floor and phone restarted itself and was working completely fine until now after 48 hours, the phone is off and there is no light and it won’t charge or turn on,i have tried everything from droid guy website to turn it on or at least to reset it but there is no luck and one more thing i left this phone on charge for half an hour and it got heated up but still won’t turn on or do anything.can you please help with this issue thanks a lot

Solution: A phone that heats up when being charged usually means that there is a short circuit in the device. The drop might have damaged the battery of the phone which is why it will no longer charge or turn on.

As for troubleshooting this device you can try cleaning the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air then charge it using a different charging cord and wall charger. You should also check if the phone can charge from a computer USB port.

If the phone doesn’t charge or turn on then you will need to bring this to a service center and have it repaired.

J7 Not Charging After Getting Wet

Problem: Hi Droid Guy, My Samsung J7 got drenched ( in a bag with little water to sink enough the charging point) and got turned off. after making it to dry, when restarted, it started to function normally, for denied to charge. I tried,

  1. Keep it ON and charging
  2. turn it off and charging
  3. turn it off and charging it from Laptop
  4. dried it in Sun for 6 Hrs and charging

but never charges. when connected to charger or laptop, while turned off, it shows lightning symbol and vibrates. when connected to charger or laptop, while turned on, it does not charge but operates normally. Please help me to find the issue.

Solution: Since your phone got wet it’s very likely that the water might have damaged the charging component of the phone. The best thing to do right now is to place the device in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours. Once this is done make sure that the charging port is free from any dirt or debris by cleaning it using a can of compressed air. Try to check if the phone will charge. If the problem persists then I suggest that you have this checked at a service center.
