Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Back In The Rumor Mill – Two Models Expected, Here Are the Full Specs

With Samsung’s second generation of Galaxy Tabs celebrating their first birthday this month, it was only natural for Galaxy Tab 3 rumors to be intensifying. And while the new members of the family are not yet officially confirmed, they’re pretty much open books to us.

That is if we choose to believe the newest “leak”, coming our way via According to the Greek website, there will be two Galaxy Tab 3 models, one with an 8-inch display and the other with a 10.1-inch panel.

Starting with the latter, the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, here are the newly rumored specs in full:

  • 10.1-inch display with 1,280 x 800 pixels resolution
  • Dual-core 1.5 GHz processor
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean
  • 3G/HSPA connectivity, optional 4G LTE
  • 16 GB of internal storage
  • 3 MP/1.3 MP cameras
  • MicroSD support
  • Wi-Fi, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0, Micro USB
  • 7,000 mAh battery
  • 256.7 x 175.3 x 8.7 mm dimensions
  • 533 grams

A little disappointed? I don’t blame you. After all, this isn’t really a massive upgrade compared with the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, is it? The display is pretty much identical, the battery’s the same, as is the rear cam, RAM, storage and most of the connectivity options.

The only enhancements are to the front-facing camera (who cares?), the CPU, on-board software and the adding of 4G LTE speeds in the mix. Clearly too little to make a real difference. But hey, at least the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 will probably look good, being set to shave a little over 50 grams off the weight of the Tab 2 and 1 mm off its profile.

Moving on to the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0, here’s what that fellow is rumored to come packing:

  • 8-inch display with 1,280 x 800 pixels resolution
  • Dual-core 1.5 GHz processor
  • 2 GB of RAM
  • Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean
  • 3G/HSPA, 4G LTE
  • 3 MP/1.3 MP cameras
  • MicroSD
  • Wi-Fi, DLNA, Bluetooth 4.0, Micro USB
  • 4,500 mAh battery
  • 112.1 x 209.6 x 6.95 mm dimensions
  • 330 grams weight

With Samsung’s Galaxy Tab portfolio lacking an 8-inch model so far, I see myself forced to compare this upcoming Tab 3 8.0 with the freshly released Galaxy Note 8.0. And, believe it or not, the Tab 3 8.0 is a worthy contender for the Note.

True, the new guy won’t have S Pen support and it will only pack a dual-core CPU, but otherwise it’s basically in the same league as the Note 8.0. The 2 gigs of RAM sound awesome, the battery is surprisingly large, while the 6.95 mm waist is almost certainly a world record of sorts. Now if only Sammy would price this more “sensibly” than the Note 8…

Sure enough, the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 and 10.1 still don’t have exact release dates attached to their names, but something tells us we won’t go more than a couple of weeks before finally hearing something official about them. Stay tuned!
