Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus restricting Play Store to use background data & other mobile data problems

Your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus (#Samsung #GalaxyS6EdgePlus) can connect to the internet either through a Wi-Fi network or mobile data. In this post, I will address a few problems that you may encounter when you’re using the latter.

Unlike Wi-Fi, connecting via mobile data is a bit complicated. Your phone should be properly provisioned by your service provider to be able to receive service and it needs to be set so it can connect to the mobile data network. After everything is properly set and you get the connection, your account will be filtered depending on the plan you purchased and this is where capping enters.

Well, anyway, that’s how things go, basically. Just continue reading and you’ll learn about the problems that you may encounter if you use mobile data to connect to the internet. Here’s the list of the issues I included in this article…

  1. Google Play Store shows its background data is restricted
  2. Galaxy S6 Edge Plus cannot connect to mobile data network
  3. Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting and reconnecting
  4. Galaxy S6 Edge+ can’t access the internet and receive calls
  5. S6 Edge Plus won’t connect to 4G LTE

Google Play Store shows its background data is restricted

Problem: Google Play continuously says that the background data is restricted. Called tech support and nothing. They sent me a new phone (Galaxy S6 Edge Plus) and same thing is happening.

Related Problem: Google Play app gives message “background data disabled” when I go to download an app. However, this is not the case in Settings, as no data is restricted. Please help me fix this issue in order to have access to the Play Store. Thank you!

Troubleshooting: This problem can be just a setting issue or a firmware problem. That said, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Try to disable Restrict background data by going to Settings > Data usage > More options (3 dot symbol) > toggle the switch Off.
  2. If it’s already disabled, then try wiping the cache partition. This procedure is effective for minor firmware issues especially if this problem started without apparent reason.
  3. Should the second procedure fail, you have no other option but to backup all your important data and perform the master reset.

Galaxy S6 Edge Plus cannot connect to mobile data network

Problem: My new Galaxy S6 Edge+ has an issue connecting to mobile data that’s why I don’t get to browse the internet. I called Sprint twice but told that I have to enabled or turn on mobile data, which I did, but the same thing happens, still can’t connect. Can you help me please?

Related Problem: Won’t connect to mobile network even though mobile data turned on.

Troubleshooting: If mobile data is already turned on in your phone, then it must be the APN settings that need to be setup or changed. You may google the APN settings for your provider or  you may call tech support immediately and ask for it. You may also request the rep to walk you through in setting it up or editing the existing settings.

Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting and reconnecting

Problem: Hi, I just bought my Galaxy S6 Edge+ but the wi-fi keeps turning on and off constantly by itself (like every 2 seconds). I’ve tried restarting, rebooting, clearing cache and changing wi-fi setting, but the issue remains, what should I do?

Solution: It’s not really a serious problem. The phone actually switches to mobile data when it disconnects from Wi-Fi. If you don’t use mobile data often, it’s better you switch is off or just follow these steps for yet another solution:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen with one finger.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Tap the WiFi icon.
  4. Tap the Menu icon on the upper-right corner of the screen.
  5. Choose Advanced from the drop down.
  6. Uncheck the box next to “Smart network switch”.

Galaxy S6 Edge+ can’t access the internet and receive calls

Problem: I got the phone for Christmas. I had it activated my ATT, I am unable to access the Internet and receive texts. I may only receive calls and make outgoing calls.

Solution: If you were trying to connect to the internet using mobile data, then make sure mobile data is turned on in your phone. In case it still won’t work after it has been turned on, then you need to have the correct APN settings and set them up, or to make it easier, call your provider and ask for it then ask the rep to help you set it up. At the same, inquire seek help on how to make your phone to receive calls.

S6 Edge Plus won’t connect to 4G LTE

Problem: Somehow My Galaxy S6 Edge+ can get connection though very, very slow because it’s only getting 3G instead of the advertised 4G LTE. It’s been three months since I purchased it but I wasn’t actually able to use mobile data because we have Wi-Fi at home and at work and I don’t use it when I drive. There’s Wi-Fi everywhere and I needed to connect to mobile data even if I was paying for it. However, my internet connection at home has become so crappy this past couple of days so I opted to use mobile data instead and that’s all I can get–3G signal. How can I make it to connect to 4G? Thanks.

Solution: While most carriers make LTE the default network mode, there’s always a chance the setting is changed. So, I want you to make sure the phone is set to connect to 4G LTE network. Go to Settings > Mobile networks > Network mode, and then choose LTE/WCDMA/GSM (Auto Connect). If it’s already selected, then the problem might be in the APN settings and for this, you need to call your provider and ask for the LTE APN for your phone.

However, if there’s no LTE/WCDMA/GSM option, you should also call your provider and complain about it. If the company advertises LTE, their phones should have such option unless you bought it from a third-party.
