S5 Won’t Update To Marshmallow
Problem: Hi Two weeks ago a friend of mine send me a brand new Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900A Unlocked cellphone 16gb. The baseband version number is G900AUCU4BOF3 ,it says android version is 5.0 ..The problem here is that it won’t update to marshmallow it says it’s up to date but not to the latest update. Also the google map does not work away from home ,it says it’s offline and doesn’t get wifi away from home .. I did the airplane mode thing turned it on and off and nothing also did the settings on google map I’m guessing it’s GPS..it doesn’t work .Another thing is it has this menu bar at the bottom of the screen when I am browsing the internet at home can’ t get rid of it .. I installed an app to check for updates supposedly to marshmallow and it said my device is not compatible ,please help tell me what I need to do thank you.
Solution: What you need to do first in this particular issue is to start the phone fresh. Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete don’t install anything in your phone just yet. Let’s try to tackle the issues that you have with your phone by following the troubleshooting steps listed below.
Doesn’t upgrade to Marshmallow
- Do you know what carrier the phone was originally locked to? Try inserting a SIM card of that carrier to the phone then do the update.
- Try updating the phone using Kies or Smart Switch.
- Consider flashing the updated firmware file to your phone. Instructions on how to flash your device can be found at several of the popular android forums online.
Google Maps Not Working
- Make sure that the phone GPS and mobile data switch is on.
Wi-Fi Not Working
- If after the factory reset the Wi-Fi is still not working then you should have the phone checked at a service center.
S5 Running Marshmallow Keeps On Freezing
Problem: Hi I have a Samsung s5 running marshmallow and it keeps freezing since I’ve done the latest update. I’ve done factory reset even used Odin and went back to lollipop becuz I didn’t have problems back then. I have no apps installed no SD card installed and it still freezes. I can hear the keyboard still typing when I type but nothing shows up and I have to turn it off and on again to finish typing to only have it freeze again. Please help!
Solution: It looks like this issue is caused by a faulty digitizer. You will need to have the display assembly isolated to check if this is causing the problem by replacing it with a new one. Bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
S5 AT&T Locked To Be Used In Sprint Network
Problem: A friend gave me his AT&T samsung galaxy s5 and I want to use it on my Sprint account. I have a sprint SIM card for it but it prompts me for an unlock code. Is there a free way to switch it to Sprint? I have seen numerous websites wanting money and claiming to be able to unlock it, but I can’t find direct evidence it has worked for anyone. Thanks
Solution: You will need the services of an unlocking provider to unlock the device since the correct code must be entered on the device to unlock it. Alternatively, if the phone is already out of contract from AT&T the original owner can request for the phone to be unlocked by following this link https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1008728 .
S5 Software Update Not Available
Problem: Ok i have the samsung galaxy s5 active when 4.4.4 version. When i try to do a software update it says your phone is up to date.. and i know its not please help
Solution: There are several conditions that your phone must meet in order for it to be able to get the updated software. These conditions are detailed below.
- Your phone must be running on its original carrier. This applies to phones that have been unlocked and are used on a different carrier.
- The phone must not be rooted.
- The phone must not be running on a custom software.
If your phone meets the conditions listed above and it is still not getting any updates then perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
- Check for the update using the OTA method
- Try using Kies or Smart Switch to update your phone.
If the issue still persists then you should consider manually flashing the updated firmware file to your phone. Instructions on how to perform this procedure can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.
S5 Loses Service
Problem: One day my samsung galaxy s5 just lost service. I would restart it and if it stayed playing on it it would keep service. As soon as I would set it aside I would lose service. It will also drop in the middle of my call anywhere I’m at. I went to Verizon they gave me a new Sim card and said it should work. It didn’t work so I factory reset it and it is still having the same problem.
Solution: Have you tried checking if the network signal is strong in your area? If it is then this problem could already be caused by an issue with the phone hardware. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center that’s capable of doing board level repairs.
S5 Screen Goes Black
Problem: I have a black screen issue on my S5 mini where i have tried safe reboot and hard reboot. I have taken the battery out and held down power for 1-2 min to drain any residual power in the phone. Then after i replace the battery and turn on power, the samsung/android logo flashes on and then the screen goes blank. the Power symbol can flash up but only for a split second (the same as the android logo) and then the screen goes black. I can recharge the battery and see the red LED light in top left corner. I can receive texts or messages as i hear the notification sound and vibrate. When i try soft reboot or hard reboot, the screen is black the entire time so i can not navigate to anything that all the help webpages show. How can you fix a black screen issue when you cannot see what you are doing? Your help would be awesome
Solution: Have you tried starting the phone in recovery mode? If the screen works in this mode then you can do a factory reset from here. If the screen remains black in this mode then the problem could be caused by a defective display. If this is the case then you will need to bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
S5 Not Registering Touch
Problem: There is an invisible line in the middle of my screen that won’t register touch. It started just the right side but now is all the way across. There is no crack haven’t dropped it nothing. Also my keyboard doesn’t always register the letter to type. It also randomly selects things while scrolling Facebook or any app.
Solution: You will need to check first if this problem is caused by a glitch in the phone software by doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. If the issue persists after the reset then this could very likely be caused by a damaged digitizer. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.
