S5 Won’t Recognize microSD Card

Problem: My phone had an issue with it’s micro sd card, a 128 gb Samsung EVO one, and it won’t recognize it at all anymore, and I put it into a regular sd adapter and my computer won’t recognize it either, but they both used to. Is it just an issue with the sd card? How can I backup all of the lost photos on it?

Solution: If your computer can’t recognize the card then there’s a possibility that it may already be defective. If this is the case then it is going to be difficult to extract the photos or data stored in it. You can use some of the available data recovery software that runs on computers to check if it can recover the photos in the microSD card. To increase the chances of getting your photos back you can also opt to hire a professional data extraction specialist. This option however will cost a lot and is not guaranteed to work.

S5 Does Not Recognize microSD Card

Problem: After cache wipe and factory reset, my phone doesn’t recognize my sd card. I did perform back up before. The data memory in settings says “Mount sd card”. I then remove and replace sd card. It still says “Mount sd card in light grey and won’t activate when pressed. It states insert sd card. Any ideas?

Solution: Try letting your computer read the microSD card and see if it gets detected. If it can’t be detected then the card may already be damaged.

If the microSD card can be detected by your computer then the problem may either be with the way the card is inserted in the phone or by a software problem.

When inserting the microSD card back to the phone make sure that it is in its proper orientation and that it is well secured.

If the phone still does not detect the microSD card then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset. This reset is necessary to eliminate the possibility that a phone software glitch may be causing the issue.

If the issue still occurs after the reset then try inserting a different microSD card in your phone and check if it can be read.

If it can then there may be a problem with your original microSD card. If the new microSD card can’t be read then this could already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 microSD Card Data Deleted

Problem: My phone’s internal memory is just fine, but my 32 gb samsung brand micro sd card randomly deleted all my music and photos from the phone itself. I don’t have an sd converter for my computer so I hadn’t checked if my files show up on the computer, but is there any possible solutions for this problem? I’m just curious how to get my photos and music back to me. Thank you so much. P.S- I tried to take the sd card out and blow on it, restart the phone, but none of that seems to work

Solution: Try connecting your phone to your computer using a USB cord. When your phone is detected it will also detect the microSD card. Use the file explorer program of your computer to navigate to the microSD card and check its folders for the missing music and photos. If you can’t find them then they may have been deleted. If the files are present then the issue may be with the phone.

Disconnect the phone from your computer then start it in Safe Mode. Check if you can view your music and photos in this mode. If you can then there may be a third party app installed in your computer that is causing this problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If you still can’t view the music and photos even in Safe Mode but you can view them when using the computer then try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. If that does not work then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Can’t Transfer Data To microSD Card Using Phone

Problem: Okay, when I first got my S5, I could easily transfer my files from phone memory to SD card. . Then suddenly,  that stopped. .  Now,  I can’t move or save stuff on my SD card. .  So to transfer stuff from my phone to SD card,  I have to remove the SD card from my phone,  connect it to my laptop,  and then transfer files. . Why can’t I transfer from my phone to SD card while it’s still in my phone and what can I do about it?. .  Please help…  I really don’t like removing and fixing back the card. .  It’s stressful.

Solution: Try checking first if this problem is caused by an app installed in your phone by starting the device in Safe Mode then doing the data transfer. If the data transfer can be done in this mode then the problem is most likely caused by an app you installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

You should also check if the problem is caused by the microSD card itself by using a different microSD card in your phone. Try to transfer data using your device to the microSD card and check if it completes. If it does then the original microSD card could have a problem.

Another possible factor that can cause this problem is the phone software. If this is the case I suggest you backup your phone data first then do a factory reset.

S5 Migrating Data To New microSD Card

Problem: Hiya! I have a simple question I can’t seem to find the answer to online, with a quick search, anyway. 🙂 Everything I’m finding is how to insert a new sd card but what I want to do is replace it with a bigger one for more storage. How do I migrate the apps and data I have on the old to the new (ones not on the cloud intentionally)? Thanks so much! :-)”

Solution: If the data consists of photos, music, videos or any other personal stuff then you can simply copy this to the new microSD card. It’s a different case when dealing with apps and app related data. The best way to proceed in this case is to uninstall the third party apps that you have on your device with the old microSD card inserted. Once the apps have been uninstalled you should remove the old microSD card then insert the new microSD card. With the new microSD card installed install the apps again. This procedure minimizes the possibility of some app related issue occurring due to the use of a new microSD card.
