S5 Stuck In Download Mode After Software Update
Problem: Hello!! I have the Samsung Galaxy S5. I completed the Marshmallow update yesterday because I thought it might help my phone as it has been super slow (especially with sending messages). After the update it was okay for several hours. This morning, when I switched it on; again it was slow, even slower than usual. I attempted the restart option, but since then it has been stuck in the ODIN mode “downloading….Do not turn off target”. I tried your tip with holding the volume down button, but nothing happened. What do I do now? Looking forward to your assistance.
Solution: Try taking out the phone battery and microSD card ( if you have one installed) then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear its RAM. Once this is done reinsert just the battery then try turning on your phone.
If the phone is still stuck in downloading mode then try performing the steps listed below.
- Start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. Restart your phone
- Start the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding.

Related Problem: I have a s5 and when i go to the software update it says in the version line that it’s running 5.0 when i try to do the update it says device software is up to date even though it really isn’t up to date. i have tried factory reset to fix the problem and have had no luck. i have had over 9 gigs of storage so i know that isn’t the problems.
Related Problem: This is an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S5 GSM phone which was originally with Verizon and now with Consumer Cellular. It has Android 5.0 installed and even though the phone is activated and has been for more than a year I am unable to update the OS to Android 6.
Solution: Before your phone can be updated to the latest software version there are certain conditions that your device must meet which we have listed below.
- If the phone has been unlocked then it should be running on its original network.
- The phone must not be rooted.
- The phone must not be running on a custom software.
If your phone meets the conditions listed above and it still can’t get the updates then follow the steps listed below.
- Connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch running then let the software update your phone.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete try checking for the update again using the OTA method or by using your computer.

S5 Keeps Turning Off And Freezes

Solution: You will need to check first if this issue is caused by a glitch in the phone software. Since your phone has several issues I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset has completed try to check if the issue still occurs.
