S5 Powers Down On Its Own
Problem: My s5 will power down at 47% power then it will attempt to power back up only to show the Galaxy S5 logo then power down again repeating this over and over, when I plug in the power cord the battery indicator will now show the battery at 1% or nothing , once the battery power is over 50% the phone works fine, even without the power cable, oh one other thing the phone powers up to 100% just as fast as it powers down.
Solution: The first thing that you should do in this case is to suspect that the problem is caused by the phone battery. If this battery is already old and has undergone several charging cycles then it may not be able to hold a charge the way it used to. Try replacing the phone battery first and see if this resolves the problem. If it doesn’t then the most likely cause is a software issue. If this is the case then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S5 Does Not Charge
Problem: phone is plugged into wall the battery shows up on screen with a bolt on it saying its charging but no green is on the screen left alone for ten min came back and the battery on screen said 0% and at the bottom of the screen was a blinking green light is this my battery that is dead or is something wrong with the phone
Solution: It;s possible that this issue is caused by a faulty battery. Try getting a new battery and see if the issue goes away. If it doesn’t then the next thing you should do is to do a factory reset. This restores the phone software back to its original condition. Make sure to backup your phone data first before doing the reset as it will be deleted in the process.
S5 Does Not Turn On
Problem: My phone is not turning on. It’s got stuck where the ‘samsung’ light blinks. I tried taking the battery out and restarting but it’s not helping. I’m freaking out. What do I do now?
Solution: If your phone is stuck in the Samsung logo and does not proceed further then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step should the issue still persist.
- Take out the phone battery and microSD card (If you have one installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery ( leave the microSD out first) then try to turn on the phone. If the phone turns on normally then you can now reinsert the microSD card.
- Try using a new battery on your phone.
- Start the phone in Safe Mode. If the phone starts normally in this mode then an app you installed could be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Start the phone in recovery mode then wipe the cache partition of your device.
- Start the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding with this step.
S5 Not Recognizing Charger
Problem: Plug phone into a verified 2.4a charger with a verizon issued cable and I receive a warning that that I must plug into my original charger to get faster charging speeds. I charge all night and get 70-80%. Other charger won’t aren’t even recognized. Here are the steps i have taken to resolve this problem:
- Cleared cache partition
- Backed up and reset phone
- Have a 2.4a charger w/ verizon sent micro USB cables
- Purchased a new 3.85 V Li-ion Battery directly from Verizon
- Cleaned charging port with alcohol.
What do you suggest? Take it to Verizon? Thanks for your time
Solution: If you get a warning saying that you must use the original charger even if you are indeed using the original charger then this means that the phone is detecting that that an incorrect amount of power is reaching it. Since you have already done some of the preliminary troubleshooting steps that needs to be done in this kind of scenario is to try using different charging cords and see if the problem gets resolved. These charging cords gets damaged easily and the one you are using might be damaged already. If the issue still occurs then the problem could be caused by a faulty charging port or power IC of your device. If this is the case I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.
S5 Battery Drains Quickly
Problem: Hello, I am having trouble keeping my phone charged all day. I recently replaced the battery thinking it was the problem, but the power continues to drain quickly. The brightness on my phone is pretty low and I frequently close open apps. Can you please help me? I really do like my phone, and I’m not up for an upgrade until late November. Thanks
Solution: Since you already isolated the battery as a possible factor that could be causing this problem then the next step is to suspect the phone software as a suspect. Below are the recommended troubleshooting steps that you should do in cases such as this. Move to the next step should the issue still occur.
- Start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This deletes the temporary data in your device which could be causing the problem. Check if the issue still occurs.
- Start the phone in Safe Mode. Observe if the battery drain problem occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded and installed in the phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S5 Won’t Charge
Problem: My phone wouldn’t charge anymore. I thought it was the battery. When the phone was off and I plugged in the charger a yellow caution sign over a battery will pop up. It will charge sometimes, but it would always glitch, idk. I bought a new battery, two to be exact and it still won’t charge them properly. It’s not the battery. I don’t know if that app has messed it up, or if it is a software bug. Possibly damage to the port? I’m lost here and I don’t know. I’ve tried two chargers and they both do the same thing. Half the time work.
Solution: Since you already tried using new batteries to no effect the next thing you should do is to check the charging port and charger. Clean the charging port using a can of compressed air or by blowing to it using a straw. This will take out any dirt or debris that could be stuck in the port. You should also try using a different charger and charging cable when charging the phone.
If the issue still occurs then try checking if the phone software is causing this problem. If you are able to backup your phone data then do it now. Once the backup is complete do a factory reset. Check if the issue still occurs.
If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should have your phone checked at a service center.
S5 Only Charges With Samsung Charger
Problem: My phone will only charge using the Samsung home charger. It won’t charge using ANY other phone cord with wall plug in. It was working before I used the AUX cord in my car stereo in my phone to listen to Pandora!! I tried removing the battery, etc, and the other cords/plugs won’t work!! What do I do??
Solution: Try cleaning the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. If the issue still persist then you should try backing up your phone data then do a factory reset.
