S5 Not Charging Using Wall Charger
Problem: Hi, I have been using the same charger that comes with the phone for over 2 years now, however i have already replaced the original USB cable as it was already faulty. The replaced cable works fine. Three days ago, my phone would not charge from any charger/wall socket but are able to charge when connected to computer/laptop via USB. As i read through the post from this website, i figured that it might be a software problem, and I updated my phone to marshmallow 6.0 as of today, however the same problem remains. I tried using different cable, wall sockets and also plug, however none seems to be working. I tried charging using a powerbank, but it only could work up to around 20-30 minutes, and it the phone no longer able to detect any charging/connection anymore. As of now, it is only able to charge when connected to a computer/laptop. Any idea why is this happening? Thanks in advance!
Solution: If your phone does not charge using an AC wall charger but charges from USB port then there’s a chance that the phone’s charging circuit is faulty or the charging port has a bad connection to the phone. You should however check if there are other factors that might be causing this problem by following the troubleshooting steps listed below. Check if the issue still occurs after following each step then move to the next step if it still occurs.
- Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or by blowing into it using a straw. What you want is to take out any dirt or debris that could be present in this port and is causing this charging issue.
- Sometimes the phone software might cause this issue. To check if this is the case you need to backup your data and do a factory reset.
If the above steps fail then I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center as this is most likely a hardware related problem already.
S5 Only Charges When Off
Problem: Cell will only charge when powered down. Just started this last night. Worked fine before. Took 10 hours to reach 60%. It’s draining quickly when in use. Tried soft reset, deleting recent apps, advanced task kill app. Tried to charge in safe mode but does not work either. Only when fully off. Different power cords, different outlets etc. Appreciate any help. If i take it to sprint they will not help-only waste my time trying to sell me new phone.
Solution: There are two things that you can do in this kind of issue. First you need to try to replace the phone battery. Sometimes a faulty battery can cause this kind of problem which is why you need to try using a new one. If the problem still occurs the next thing you should do is to try doing a factory reset. This is to check if the software is causing the problem. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
If the above steps fail then I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center as this could be caused by a faulty hardware component.
S5 Restarts And Freezes
Problem: I am experiencing sudden restarts in my phone after freezing, this happens when i open up a app, or sometimes when i browse the internet and sometimes without me doing anything.
Things i’ve tried:
- Factory reset with recovery mode,
- cache clearing.
- flash using odin
- Updated to marshmallows via kies then same happend and downgraded back to lollipop .
- Changing settings in developers options
However i’m currently able to use the phone with no such error in safe mode .This issue only comes up in normal mode, then the soft keys does not work too. Is there a reason for this?
Solution: This is quite strange since the issue disappears when the phone is in Safe Mode. This means that it’s very likely that a third party app is causing the problem.
Try to do one more round of factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet. Try checking first if the issue still occurs when the phone is started in normal mode.
If the problem still occurs then I suspect that the issue is caused either by a bad RAM or ROM. Have your phone checked at a service center if this is the case.
S5 UPSM Battery Life Low
Problem: Recently, after doing a Samsung update for my S5, I noticed that the Ultra Power Saving Mode (UPSM) showed that it would only extend my fully-charged battery to a total of approx 30 hours, as opposed to 10-12 days that it used to show. That is only a small amount more than with UPSM off. I’ve tried: rebooting, wiping the cache, a different battery, turning the new battery optimization features on and off, resetting the battery calibration (100% to zero, pwr off, to 100 to etc etc). I do not have a rooted phone and do not plan to in the near future. Thoughts? Any other reports of the same?
Solution: Since this issue occured right after a software update you should check if some form of old software data that got left behind is causing the problem. To do this just backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue occurs. If it does then then next thing to do is to replace the battery with a new one as the one you have in your phone could be performing below the optimized standards.
S5 Charging Incompatible With Device Error
Problem: My phone will not charge, it will say “This charger is not compatible with this device, in order to stop any damage we quit charging your phone.” Or “This charger isn’t compatible with this device so the charge will take a little longer” it’s my stock charger for the phone. Do you have any idea of what I could do?
Solution: This phone has a protective mechanism that prevents it from being charged if the charging current coming from the charger is not within its set parameters. There are various reasons why this could happen which is what we will discuss below. Follow the steps listed below to fix this issue. Move to the next step should the issue still occur.
- Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or by blowing to it using a straw. Your aim is to take out any dirt or debris that could be in this port and is causing the problem. Once the port is free from dirt or debris check if the issue still occurs.
- A faulty charging cord can also cause this issue. Try using a new charging cord when charging then check if the issue still occurs.
- A defective charger can also lead to this problem. Try using a different charger when charging your phone.
- In some cases a glitch in the phone software can cause this problem. Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Check if the issue still occurs.
If the above steps fail to fix the issue then you should have your phone checked at a service center.
S5 Turns Off When Not Connected To Charger
Problem: Whenever I take my phone off the charger it automatically turns off when I plug it in it turns on
Solution: There’s a possibility that your phone is using a faulty battery. Ty getting a new battery first and see if this fixes the issue.
