S5 Doesn’t Receive Text Messages
Problem: Hello, my phone doesn’t receive messages at random times. It has been happening for a few months now and I have been unable to find any pattern with the lost messages. It does the same thing with sent messages but not as commonly. Thank you.
Solution: If the messages arrive late then the problem could be caused by the network. However, in this case you are not receiving text messages at all. Since this happens at random times the most likely suspect would be a glitch in the phone software. Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below to resolve this issue.
- Clear the cache and data of the messaging app. Whenever text messaging issue occur this is the first step that needs to be done as it eliminates the temporary data of the messaging app which can usually cause issues.
- Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This deletes the temporary data of the phone which usually causes problems.
- Start the phone in Safe Mode. You will need to check if you still do not receive text messages in this mode. If the problem does not occur in this mode then an app you downloaded could be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Backup your phone data and do a factory reset. This is the last troubleshooting step that you need to do which reverts the phone back to its original condition when it was new.
S5 Text Messages Disappear
Problem: My text messages disappear. They are received by the other party but do not show on my end when sending a text. When a text is received it shows I have a text but doesn’t show up when viewing. No new programs have been installed. However if someone sends me a picture I can see it. Sprint store says it has something to do with google.
Related Problem: I could send and receive texts perfectly till about 4 pm today all of a sudden I when I send a text message it does not show on my screen but it sends to the recipient when someone sends me a message I can see it when it comes in on the top of my screen but when I go into my message center no message is there.
Solution: This issue could be caused by a glitch in the messaging app. Try clearing the cache and data of the app then check if you still experience the same issue. Another thing that you should check is if the messaging settings is set to automatically delete text messages. While only the old text messages are deleted in this case you should try to turn this feature off if it is on to eliminate the possibility of this causing the problem.
Sometimes, a third party app you installed in your phone could also cause this problem. To check if this is the case you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. Here, only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. Check if the messages still disappear in this mode. If the problem does not occur then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
Finally, if the above troubleshooting steps fail you should consider doing a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing this step.
S5 Will Not Send Or Receive Picture Messages
Problem: I bought this phone from someone a couple days ago. It is a galaxy s5. It is an unlocked at&t phone that I called and had put on straighttalk. Everything is working fine with the phone except it will not send pictures or receive them. It says failed everyone, but it will however send messages. What do I do because I am in a business that requires this and I need help fast!
Solution: It’s very likely that the APN settings of our phone has not been set to that of the Straight Talk network yet. Check these settings and make the necessary changes on your phone.
Listed below is the APN setting for straight talk
- Name: straight talk
- APN: tfdata
- Proxy: Not Set

S5 Not Receiving Group Messages
Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 for almost 2 years now. Over the life of my phone, I have noticed that I do not always receive all group messages regardless of whether I started the message or not. At first, it was just with iPhone users and I know that issue lies with their software, but now I am starting to get the same issues when all users are on android phones. I receive messages from one party, but not the other and both are using Samsung phones. I’ve searched online and can only find answers to the issue with iPhones. What can I do to fix this issue?
Solution: Before doing any troubleshooting make sure that your phone is has stable mobile data connection. Once you have made sure of this proceed with clearing the cache and data of the messaging app. This will delete the temporary data of the app which could be causing this issue. try to check if the problem still occurs.
Another factor that you should check is if a third party app you installed in your phone is causing this issue. To check if this is the case just start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. Check if you are able to receive group messages in this mode. If you are able to then the problem could be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
One final troubleshooting step that you should consider is a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing this.
S5 Takes Long Time To Send Text Message
Problem: When I hit send to send a text it takes a long time before it is actually sent. I am running on straight talk Verizon LTE
Solution: You need to make sure that the phone has a good network signal. If the signal in your area is rather low then it would take a long time for the text message to send. To check if this is a signal related issue try to check if the problem occurs in different locations.
Once you have checked that the problem is not with the signal it’s time to check the phone itself. The first thing you need to do is to clear the cache and data of the messaging app. Too much temporary data in this app could cause it to have problems in sending a message.
You should also consider wiping the cache and data of the phone from the recovery mode to delete the temporary data of the phone system.
S5 Keyboard Unfortunately Stops When Texting
Problem: My Samsung keyboard stops frequently. I’ll be in the middle of texting and go to hold the period (.) Button and it’ll say my keyboard has unfortunately stopped.
Solution: This problem is usually caused by a glitch in the Samsung keyboard app. Find this app in the application manager then clear its cache and data. Once this is done try to check if the problem still occurs.
