Samsung Galaxy S4 System UI Stopped After Software Update Issue & Other Related Problems

One of the advantages of owning a smartphone is that you will be getting software updates to improve the device. The #Samsung Galaxy #S4 for instance was first released running on Android Jelly Bean. Samsung constantly released software updates for this device which right now is running on Android Lollipop. While getting the update is highly recommended there are some people who experience some phone issues right after the update.

S4 System UI Stopped After Software Update

Problem: It’s not an issue now, I just notice that the after the update, holding the home key to open the task manager populated the error message about the system UI stopping and only being able to press okay. The message would close after that though. That means it wasn’t necessarily the same issue that many other people seem to have had lately. Basically to summarize, holding the home key would populate the error, and not the task manager. That was the only noticeable issue that arose. I had to re-enable the Google search app and update it in the play store / market. That cleared it up. Oh, and it might have been a different issue, but the recovery mode reboot didn’t load when I attempted it. It simply shut back down after displaying the blue words “recovery mode” in the top left corner. So yeah, that’s possibly something, but I don’t have a reason to test that out for now though. I just figured I’d share the method and problem I had. Thank you!

Solution: Thank’s for sharing this tip which would surely help a lot of our readers. Updating your phone apps is one way of resolving this type of issue right after a software update. This allows the apps to become compatible with the latest software version.

Another way to deal with this problem is to access the recovery mode and then wipe the cache partition of your device. This clears out the temporary data in your phone that can cause the problem. One last troubleshooting step that can be done is to do a factory reset however you need to backup your phone data first before proceeding with this.

S4 Handsfree Not Working After Lollipop Update

Problem: Why doesn’t  hands free work on Samsung Galaxy S4 model GT- 19507 after updating Lollipop 5.0.1 When phone rings a voice says who is calling then says  Answer or Reject, I say Answer and it does not answer, voice repeats again Answer or Reject, I say Answer and it does not answer. Because It does not answer it then goes to a missed call It is not working at all. Hands Free use to work before update.

Solution: The handsfree feature of your phone should be working even if you updated your phone software. If it isn’t working then try the following troubleshooting steps. First restart your phone. Once you have restarted your phone check if the issue still occurs.

If the problem persists then start your phone in recovery mode then wipe the cache partition. This process deletes the temporary data saved in your device which may be causing this problem.

Finally, if the problem still persists then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset. This is a highly recommended procedure especially if the issue occurs after a software update.

S4 Text Lagging After Software Update

Problem: Since the latest update to the current version my texting is lagging really bad (typing and sending), while typing a message sometimes an error keeps coming up stating the Samsung keyboard is not responding and freezes up. I did not have any of these issues before the latest update.

Solution: This problem could be caused by old software data that may still be present in your device and not deleted during the software update. This old data is now causing a conflict with the new software version resulting in this issue. What I recommend that you do first is to start your phone in recovery mode then wipe the cache partition of your device. If the problem still persists then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

S4 Does Not Boot After Software Update

Problem: After I updated my s4 handset it randomly went off but came back on but a week later it went back and is not coming back on, it comes on to the Samsung galaxy s4 GT-19505 logo then goes blank. I need to fix this problem asap. Can you fix/resolve this problem and how do you do it

Solution: If this problem occured right after the software update then it could be caused by leftover data from the previous software version. The recommended troubleshooting step in this case is to take out the battery and microSD card if you have one installed. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges your phone circuit and clears out the RAM. Reinsert just the battery then try to turn on your phone.

If the issue persists then attempt to access the recovery mode of your phone. If you can access the recovery mode then you should try to wipe the cache partition of your device. Restart your phone normally then check if it can boot normally.

If your phone still does not boot then access the recovery mode once more then do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete the data stored in your phone so make sure to do this only if you have made a backup of your phone data.

In case the factory reset does not solve the issue then one other step that you can do is to reflash your phone software. To do this you will need a copy of your phone firmware and the latest version of Odin installed in your computer. Instructions on how to do this procedure can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S4 Return And Home Button Not Working After Software Update

Problem:Since I have updated my phone on sat 6th Dec 2015..the menu and return keys   have gone ..Samsung are no help at all only saying there may be a fix in a month or so…not good enough really..many thanks  

Related Problem: Did att software update. Now my return button and menu button will not work. Home button still works though.

Solution: Several other owners of this device have also been experiencing this problem. One thing common among those who are having this issue is that they have an Exchange/ ActiveSync account on their device. Removing this account will usually resolve this issue. If you have an  Exchange/ ActiveSync on your device then try removing it first. If the issue disappears then this may be causing the problem. While this is just a temporary solution thi is still the best thing to do right now until a fix or software update is released.

One other troubleshooting step that you should consider doing is a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing this procedure.

  1. I am not savy what is Exchange/ ActiveSync account on their device because I also lost my return and menu buttons on my S4
