Why does Samsung Galaxy Note 8 automatically closes its notification tray? Here’s how to fix it…

Clearly though, this is a glitch or a bug which can be fixed by an update but while waiting for Samsung to roll out an update that will address this problem, we want to share with you a simple solution to this problem so that you can continue using your new phone without any annoyances. Troubleshooting Galaxy Note 8 with a notification tray that won’t stay down

Problem 1: Hi droid guy. I have a Galaxy Note 8 with Sprint. I got this in September after I upgraded from my Note 4. So far, so good. I haven’t encountered that much problems unlike my Note 4 but there’s one tiny issue with its notification bar. When I pull it down, there are times that it goes right back up. It doesn’t happen all the time but it’s very annoying. This didn’t happen with my Note 4 so I just want to fix it. Is it some kind of a glitch? How can I fix it?

Problem 2: My Sprint Note 8 automatically closes its notification tray and I have to pull it down. Yesterday, I had to pull it down about 5 times before it stayed and it’s just very annoying and frustrating at times. Other than that, the phone is actually really good and beautiful. If you know how to get rid of this glitch or something, please let me know.

Problem 3: Do you guys know why the notification bar on my Note 8 keeps closing on its own. Just today, it already happened more than six times and I can’t use it properly when it does that. Called Sprint tech support but the rep doesn’t know why it happens let alone know how to fix it. How about you guys? Do you have any idea why this is happening?

Troubleshooting: Those were just three of the messages we’ve received that basically have the same complaint. Well, calling the tech hotline is one thing you can do but as stated in the third problem, the rep also doesn’t know why this problem is happening in the first place, which is of course, expected. Sprint’s reps are trained to deal with account and internet related concerns but when it comes to technical issues involving the phone itself, they would transfer you over to Samsung tech support. The point is, don’t bother calling tech support about this problem because we know how to deal with it.

Again the permanent solution to this problem is an update that addresses this specific issue but the best workaround you can get is this:

Uninstall Sprint’s Secure Wi-Fi app

Secure Wi-Fi is just another layer of protection for Wi-Fi connectivity and believe me, this is one of the apps you can just get rid of. However, it’s up to you if you want to uninstall it just to work around this problem.

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
  2. Go to Settings and then Apps.
  3. Tap App manager.
  4. Locate and tap Secure Wi-Fi.
  6. Tap OK to confirm.

This works most of the time but we have readers who said the problem still occurs even after uninstall Security Wi-Fi so, if that’s the case, try the other method below.

Reset All Settings on your Galaxy Note8

Basically, it’s the same as the reset but the only difference is that you won’t lose any of your files, data, apps, etc. Only the settings will be brought back to their factory defaults and all your preferences will be deleted. This is an effective tool for this kind of problem and it’s very easy to do:

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
  2. Navigate to Settings and Backup and reset.
  3. From the Reset section, tap Reset settings.
  4. Review the info then tap RESET SETTINGS.
  5. To confirm, review the info then tap RESET SETTINGS.

Again, it’s effective but there’s no guarantee the problem will be fixed so if it persists, then you should do the next method.

Backup all your files and data and then do the Master Reset

If you can’t get this simple glitch off your mind and you really want to fix it but all other methods above failed, then just reset your phone. Just like the first solution, this one also works but then the problem may occur again in the future unless a new update is rolled out. If you decide to reset your phone, make sure you backup all your files and data and then disable Galaxy Note 8 Factory Reset Protection so you won’t be locked out. After that, feel free to reset your phone by following the steps below.

How to disable Factory Reset Protection on your Galaxy Note8

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Cloud and accounts.
  3. Tap Accounts.
  4. Tap Google.
  5. Tap on your Google ID email address if multiple accounts are setup. If you have multiple accounts setup, you will need to repeat these steps for each account.
  6. Tap 3 dot icon.
  7. Tap Remove account.

How to Master Reset your Galaxy Note8

  1. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  2. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  3. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  4. Press Power button to select.
  5. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  6. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  7. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.
