Note 5 Won’t Update to Marshmallow

Problem: Samsung Galaxy Note 5 (N-920A) won’t update to Marshmallow. It’s last update/security patch update was on February 1, 2016, about 2 months before I got the phone. Everytime I try to update it through settings it states that the phone is up to date. I’ve also factory reset my phone. On the other hand, my dad has the same phone, on the same line with no problems whatsoever.

Solution: In order for your phone to get the update the device should not be rooted, must not be running on a custom firmware, and must still be used on its original network. If your phone meets all of these conditions and you are still not seeing any update then try using Kies or Smart Switch to update your phone. This is a software you install in your computer which downloads the update to your phone. If this doesn’t work then you should consider flashing the updated stock software to your phone.  Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 5 Fails To Install System Update

Problem: i recently just got my Samsung Note 5, and just few months, i receive this notification about this newest update in the setting, (my sister who purchased my phone recommended to update the system from time to time) and so i did, usually the power turns off and it started downloading, after download, it start installing but it always failed and it keeps restarting after that and failing to install system update… What should i do (the samsung service centers are far from here so i need to fix this on my own)

Solution: Try taking out the battery of your phone as well as the microSD card (if you have one installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM.  Reinsert just the battery then check if the phone boots normally or proceeds with the update.

If the issue still remains then you should consider doing a factory reset from the recovery mode. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before performing the reset.

Note 5 Unfortunately App Has Stopped Working Error

Problem: A few days ago my phone started randomly restarting on its own. When it restarted I noticed multiple “Unfortunately, “App” has stopped working’ messages. I looked up a fix and I resorted to doing a factory reset because the other solutions of wiping the app caches and data did not work.  I already did a factory reset and it is still popping up randomly on the device.  It has happened with Maps, Samsung Keyboard, Google Play, Twitter, Facebook to name a few.  It is random.  I have deleted the cache of all the apps and did a restart.  I hope that works. Settings even stopped working at one point, which forced me to restart the phone again.  Thanks for your help.

Solution: Does your phone have a microSD card installed? Try taking it out as this might be causing the problem. You should also check if any new software update is available for your phone and get it. The update might resolve this problem.

If the above steps fail then you should consider flashing your phone with its updated stock firmware as its software might already be corrupt. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 5 Not Booting

Problem: I had a problem with my device, it was not booting, so I tried to do a Factory Restore from restore mode. When it was running the restore, it shut off because it hadn’t enough battery (I never checked that before running the restore). Now it doesn’t boot not even on Safe Mode. When I connect the charger, it just turn on at the battery indicator, but it doesn’t change the level of battery. When I connect it to a computer it just turn on with the “samsung Galaxy screen” but nothing else. And when I tried to turn it on at Safe Mode, there is only an avatar of android with a message “file not found” and it shut down.

Solution: This problem is either caused by a corrupt software or a weak battery. Try to check first if you are able to flash your phone with its updated firmware. You can refer to several of the popular Android forums online for instructions on how to do this. If you are unable to flash the phone then I recommend that you bring this to a service center and have it checked.
